Here are some images from our last backpacking trip. This is 20 Lakes Basin in Inyo National Forest. We starte at a parking area for Saddlebag Lake. It was difficult finding areas to set up camp, partly because we insisted on being legal. That means we needed to camp 100 feet from lakes, streams and trails. We later discovered that many of the site’s backpackers would normally use were either under snow or under water. This area got close to 80 feet of snow last winter.
Many times over the last ten years, I’ve been camping in an area close to here and have done several day-hikes in this basin, but had forgotten how spectacularly beautiful it is. Because of the snow and the later summer arriving here at 10,000 ft, it looked like spring and many of the wildflowers were still in full bloom.
The wildflowers all over Yosemite were either identical or very similar to the wildflowers we have at Birken, which shouldn’t have been a surprise since it is the west coast…
Thanks for following our adventure. I will definitely produce one more video talking about some of the insights and appreciations I had about this trip. I might also do a longer video if after watching some of the footage, if it inspires me to create a short documentary. We’ll see.
