I’ve been a Buddhist monk since 1999, for 15 years have been exploring how to use creative arts as a meditation subject. I’m also exploring ways to use time in nature as meditation practice. In 2021, I hope to hike +1,000 miles on the PCT with a Christian monk and possibly film a documentary. I think the world needs to see examples of people from different religious backgrounds, living, working, playing and praying together (and doing it in harmony!).
Most of my monastic life has been in California, I’ve lived as a monk in New Zealand and Canada (which is where I currently reside). In 2018, I spent a year living in a Benedictine monastery in Minnesota, studying about Christian icons, and learning ways to use these techniques to write Buddhist icons. I have a web site: iconucon.com that has a gallery page, showing some of my work.
My love for icons is slowly shifting to a love for the art of videography. I hope to start producing one new video every week. Hope you enjoy them. Peace
@@Jotipalo thanks. I've been learning about Theravada from a former monk pannobhasa aka David Reynolds. He has a Q&A every Sunday. He was a ordained monk for 30 yrs and spent 23 yrs as a monk in Burma. Are you familiar w/ pannobhasa?
Psychology Today has this as a definition for NDE: A near-death experience (NDE) is the conscious, semi-conscious or recollected experience of someone who is approaching or has temporarily begun the process of dying-for example, during a cardiac arrest that is followed by resuscitation. People who recall near-death experiences have described perceiving a variety of surreal phenomena, such as seeing themselves from above or passing through a tunnel of light.
Glad it was helpful. Got to use my pack last summer in the Sierras and was really happy with it. The pack buttom was the cordora pack cloth, and I must have been a bit rough with it, as it has some pin holes in it. Still functional, but wish I’d seem it sooner.
Great video explaining the ins and outs of the pack, I haven’t been able to really find one like this on RU-vid. Also, thanks for putting in some info about how to navigate the website a bit better. It’s definitely not the most user friendly/intuitive website design
They didn’t have a dinning room table in the house where I had the out of body experience. I’ve been in many places that do not have dinning tables. I didn’t mean to be offensive by that comment, so I apologize for being insensitive.
I’m happy for you ajah, when you have these experiences then you can finally understand the real teachings of Buddhism and felt like it’s true , now you are monk and I hope and pray that u will become a great monk who did their best to cultivate bodichita in their heart and implement the lord buddha teachings in your daily practice
Glad you are doing well! I tried to email you but everything bounces back. Looks like you had an amazing summer! Were you desolation wilderness? A friend posted a picture and I thought it might be you.

Hi Ajahn, thanks so much for the opportunity to accompany you on this journey! It's amazing to look back at these images and remember. Thanks Gustavo! I might only be posting one or two more videos. Feels like the right time to stop, I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, but wanted to keep the channel going until the end of the Sierra Project. Will probably post this Friday about this. Did you notice the store was playing the Blues in the background? My joke was that the prices were giving me the Blues. That was at Yosemite’s main grocery store. If you ever visit, be sure to bring all your food with you 🤣.
@@JotipaloI could hear the twang of a bluesy guitar in the background. I’d have been weeping😂😂😂 Such gorgeous scenery and that sweet Timelapse towards the end 👌🏻👍🏻
Thank you Tan Ajahn for sharing the wonderful views of nature. The four elements are so grand in these natural settings. Striking also to see the size of us human beings next to the giant waterfall (8:55) , and then to think that this whole world is perceived through and described in this small 'fathom-long body'. I hope that your journey has reached the end of the world, or that it may reach it very soon. Anumodana. 🙏🙏🙏
A monk friend of mine pointed out that in some areas where you are above tree-line, that nothing is in human perspective, meaning that a rock could be 5 feet tall or 50 feet tall and you can’t really tell just from your initial glance. That creates a special kind of feel as you walk through that environment.
How Sacred & Connecting Ajahn....The Earth & Her children, the Tree People had so much to communicate & the Water People were/are so Inviting to Be One with them....The time lapse is so Appreciated 🙏....This is a Wowzer Video Ajahn the Awesomenator for allowing us to share & experience such Meaningful Beauty!!!!
