The IONIQ and e-up! are probably among the most efficient EVs there are. But which one is best? We are testing the efficiency on slow Norwegian roads (no high-ways).

I have just paid the deposit on a 2017 28kWh Ioniq, will be my first electric car. I chose it because it is very efficient and can charge quickly. At last we are getting many more chargers above 50kW in the UK so I expect that, as long as I plan ahead, longer journeys will not be a big problem. But, like most people, I don't expect to be doing that many miles most of the time.

My impression is when going like 80 km/h and below the Up is really efficient. But when going faster it quickly gets thirsty. But that's maybe similar for all EVs? The Ups charging speed is also a little slow. But if one don't do long fast highway runs, I think its pretty good.

Brilliant idea to compare these two cars! 😃🎉👍 Incidentally it's the one I wanted to buy initially (E-Up) and the one I bought instead (Ioniq Classic). The result is to be expected since E-Up is optimised for city drive and not so much for highway speeds. The difference is small enough to be reverted in an highway test. But both are very efficient and also on my preferred EVs short list, by being reasonably cheap and efficient at the same time 👍 Thank you for the video!

We love our E-Up! can quite easily get 300km of range, it's impressive, easy to drive, easy to park, nimble and quick enough for everyday use. It only costs 1.20€/100km to run when charging at home!

It is extremely cheap to run, almost no maintenance costs and very nice consumption :)

Clearly the iOniq is much better car for travelling thanks to fast charging and overall features (adaptive cruise control, room in the back/trunk, etc...). The eUP on the other hand is perfect for short trips, driving around town and for charging at home. As for your consumption comparison, you can't beat side-by-side comparisons, so well done, unfortunately the eUP's onboard computer is very, very inaccurate and under reports by a good 10% on average. It's obvious if you do some simple math using battery percentage before/after, battery capacity and distance traveled. It almost looks like they might only be showing the engine's consumption without including the rest (A/C, lights, etc...). The range (remaining+distance traveled) shown on the eUP is all over the place too (keeps going down as you travel), I was impressed to see that on the iOniq it stayed at around 168km throughout your trip.

Nice video. I'm sure the manufactures will start make new mini EVs again and not only big SUV models. Brilliant idea to make a comparasion with Ioniq and E up. I didn't know the E up was that efficient EV.

It would be really good if they could make a small ev too with the MEB platform, I suspect it would be even more efficient. We will see after the I'd.buzz is launched I hope

E-citigo, mii-e or e-up was and is a compliance car for vw ag. They doesn't make any money with those models. However there should be some small polo size evs also.

Well chosen. These are the two most efficient electric vehicles. The Ioniq has its strengths at higher speeds, the e-up is particularly efficient in the city. And, no, dear Tesla fans, your favorite cars are far from that.

Ich bin mit meinem E-UP auch sehr zufrieden. Er ist eben nicht nur ein Stadtauto. Schade, dass er nicht mehr zu kaufen ist.

Bitte, mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut. Der e-up ist auf kurze Distanzen sehr gut, aber auch auf mittleren bis langen Distanzen machen es gut. Es wird zumindest gebraucht verkauft, es ist ein guter Kauf :)

Interesting Test. Thank you for your effort. The verdict, you stated, is important (influence of driven speed). You tested a car with lower rolling resistance (lower weight and thinner wheels with smaller rims) at low speed, against a car with superior drag, at speeds, where drag doesn't do much effect. At the end, the difference is 113wh/km against 107wh/km...so, for me, the e-up looks not so great.
