Here is what I gathered for how to setup and use the IOptron SmartEQ, and the first results I captured with it opposed to my first stationary tripod results.
Being new to all of this Please any information you have or if you see me doing something wrong, I welcome all of it!

I did use that tracker for a bit and did try to guide with it later. I ended up having a lot of issues down the line and traded in for a Skywatcher Staradventurer 2i. The Staradventurer is a much better mount in my opinion even though it doesn't have the goto functionality. Though they do make the Star Adventurer GTi now which does. I have just had so much better luck with Skywatcher.

@@Brendenowits I was impressed with what you were able to capture with your 3200. And your captures with the tracker were even better. I hope I can figure this thing out and get something good.

Nice video. I have the iOptron SmartEQ Pro. I have had it for about 3-4 years and used it for a while when I first got it but then life got in the way and I didn't use it for several years, just started using it again about 3-4 months ago. When I did use it 3-4 years ago I was using it to take pics with a camera and a cheap telescope. The pics weren't good at all (think the scope was the biggest problem, was junk really), I'm getting much better results now with my Nikon D7500 and Tamron 70-200 mm f/2.8 (I'm a photographer so already had this photo equipment). Before I struggled to get good polar alignment and not sure if my scope wasn't aligned properly or something else, and then I had trouble seeing in the polar scope, so I got really frustrated with it. It is quite impressive you can get 2 minute exposures just with polar aligning with the scope. I recently got the iOptron iPolar alignment camera and WOW it made a huge difference in ease of polar aligning. I can align pretty quick now and get around 90 sec exposures with no trailing at an effective focal length of 300 mm. I have just gotten back into astrophotography and have mainly used multiple 30 seconds exposures. Here are links to some of my pics: www.flickr.com/photos/26118646@N08/49588359196/in/dateposted-public/ www.flickr.com/photos/26118646@N08/49546092606/in/dateposted-public/ www.flickr.com/photos/26118646@N08/49539913116/in/dateposted-public/ www.flickr.com/photos/26118646@N08/49539047701/in/dateposted-public/ www.flickr.com/photos/26118646@N08/49534465727/in/dateposted-public/ This mount is a good little mount, I like the portability of it. Like you, I don't anticipate getting more advanced equipment at the moment (like auto guiding or a telescope), so this works for me right now. I haven't really used the GOTO function much but will start looking into that more now. Keep up the good work, and CLEAR SKIES!

I know I’m a little late, but the alignment settings try to calculate any error in polar alignment/positioning and automatically adjust the telescope’s tracking to be more accurate.

Thanks for the helpful video and nice pictures. I'm trying to decide between this tracker and the iptron sky guider pro.. Do you have any pointers for me to consider between the two models?
@Brendenowits
@Brendenowits 4 года назад
I hear the skyguider pro is more ease of use. But doesnt have goto functionality like the smarteq. The payload capacity is slightly higher on the smarteq as well so capable of a heavier setup.

@@Brendenowits Thanks for the reply and information. I'm leaning toward the eq because it comes with a tripod that fits straight out of the box and I think I'll like the go to even if it's not perfect. Good luck with the post processing. That's a steep learning curve for me, too. Thanks again.
@Brendenowits
@Brendenowits 4 года назад
Thay was part of my decision, for the price of a decent tripod and the skyguider it cost the same just to get the smarteq and have goto capability

@@Brendenowits The free full manual is a little helpful. Here's the link where I downloaded mine: www.ioptron.us/Manual/3100-3200_SmartEQ_Manual.pdf I saved it in Downloads so I can have it even if I don't have Internet access. Did you have to buy a dovetail on which to mount your camera? Mine didn't come with a camera mount to the Vixen type mount on the tracker. There's some short videos on the Internet about problems saying the tracker wouldn't move. Mine does that, but there's an icon showing when an object is below the horizon. I bought 2 string levels at a hardware store. I set them at right angles on top of the tripod before installing the tracker, and then put the tracker on the tripod. You might also find a single bubble level. Polar alignment videos are plentiful, but Polaris doesn't align at the exact place in the scope every night. There's an app available for smart phones that will show the exact spot in the polar alignment scope on each night. Good luck getting all the information you need.

Hi, I've just received this mount n I'm having a tough time getting it balanced with the camera. I'm using an EOS 3000D with 55-250m lens. How did you attach the camera to the dovetail and then have the camera centered on the mount?
@Brendenowits
@Brendenowits 3 года назад
How big of a dovetail are you using?. When I started with this mount I was usinga small 4inch. With a nikon d3400 which is a light camera. My mount was never really balanced well. Now I run a 8 inch dovetail and a nikon d7500. Significantly heavier and I am able to balance much easier.
@Brendenowits
@Brendenowits 3 года назад
Regardless I suggest at least an 8inch dovetail
@Cosmic_Gypsy

@@Brendenowits I'm using an 8 inch dovetail. I guess the payload is too light. RA doesn't get balanced with just a camera and lens.

Hi what are the differences from the SmartEQ, is SmartEQ Pro better?
@Brendenowits

If I remember correctly the pro and pro plus, come with an upgraded controller, which has more targets for the goto function. But I would check with ioptrons website to be sure.

I ordered up an orion Dovetail bar, the 8inch one, and just used the normal screw hole on the camera. A better way to do it is using those hold down clamps but I was unable to find some that would fit my lens. In this video I am using the 4 inch dovetail but trust me go for the 8 inch, it will allow more adjustment for balance.
