I know from your other videos you guys like Mel Brooks, so you NEED to watch "Silent Movie" (that really is the name) I personally think it's his best. All I will say about it is, it is a silent movie about making a silent movie. I would also highly recommend his version of "To Be or Not To Be" (it's actually a remake so make sure it's his) and also "High Anxiety" where he spoofs Hitchcock. edit: I forgot to say, if you get your hand on the BluRay of "High Anxiety" you can take a test during the movie to find out "If you're very, very nervous" (when you watch the movie you'll get that). Now that I think about it, you taking that test would make a great, second for that movie, video too.

Its true .. but I got fed up with the Chinese play on nationality in later movies. Yes the Japanese committed unforgivable war crimes (honestly an underground fighting ring for rice is probably less cruel than was actually happening ) so this seemed perfectly justified. But they just force this theme time and time again ... ( i know Chinese people had to face incredibly adversity in Hong Kong and in USA) but in later movies its just corrupt racist policeman, corrupt incredibly racist marine sergeant ... I think this just sells in China but I get quickly fed up with it . But I still enjoyed all of the ip man movies .. even his origin story without donnie yen.

This period of Chinese history gets overlooked a lot! The Japanese occupation of China was a very dark part of history for both countries, a few movies like this and Jet Lee's Fist of Legend cover it but I would love a biopic about this time period. Also about the opening, marital artists back then would travel around and fight other schools and masters to prove themselves, some for fame others for the love of martial arts

This era of Chinese history is a pretty common setting for Chinese films. It's an interesting period, but because of censorship in China these movies can only ever serve as nationalistic propaganda. Ip Man's a great movie, but it's also a huge "CHINA NUMBER ONE" propaganda flick.

I think the western world needs a "Chinese Schindler's List". A gritty, realistic, unapologetic portrayal of this time. We hear about the Rape of Nanking in school, but I think it would do posterity good to get something that really hammers home the atrocities, and the spirit of the people who survived and resisted.

Also fun fact in these movies. Honestly, the analysis and discussions you guys make, makes me so happy! I love how you two dudes notice that for someone as Wise, kind and understanding as Master Ip, seeing him fight like a brute is really saddening to see. That with each fight that goes on, it just gets more dirtier every time. In other moments similar to this, you can really feel how it can hurt for a usually peaceful and gentle character, being forced and fueled with blind rage and violence for the first time. Love listening to you both!

One reason you "feel" the fight impact is Sammo Hung was the fight choreographer. He's Jackie Chan's "Big Brother" and he plays a major character in Ip Man 2. Sammo's own movies that hes directed and starred in often have this feel... where the imacts really look like the stunt men went to the hospital. Jackie was better at stunts, but Sammo's chorepgraphy was godlike.

So often in action movies people are always beating each other up but no one ever gets beaten up, if that makes sense? I think this is the best film in the series, but Donnie Yen is never not badass, the others are definitely worth watching. I think it's the fourth film which has Scott Adkins as the villain, who is a phenomenal fighter, very satisfying ^_^

Ip Man's seriousness/anger is measured in how high his sleeves are folded up. 😬😬😬
