@@ah0874 you use an android phone with your iPad? I have a few friends who do this. I have an iPhone, it an old one on iOS 15, so I like to try out new features on my ipad. I’m really excited about the calculator app!
@@ah0874 same .... i hate using the journal app on my phone, the only reason i am not consistent on it. So as alternative i journal on the notes app, works nice, but the journal feel isn't there. I hope we get the ipad version of this.
Good reviews. I especially like that the password app isn't bare-bones but comes with a health set of features. I like to use password apps to store all sorts of information I don't want to be easily accessed.
Product knowledge, clarity of thought and excellent presentation skills makes these videos a must have. Thanks for providing some very useful insight into iPadOS18.
@GARdotETH they just didn't made the calculator what is exactly the same like the other 386 free calculator in the app store.. now they are not the 387th of the same calculator, now they are the 1st calculator with Math Notes (it's the next level after the scientific calculator, level 1 = basic calculator, level 2 = scientific calculator, all of the current calculator apps are here, level 3 = math notes..) so basicaly you can thanks to Apple they are reinvented the calculator, when Android will copy it..
I love how the comments section is always flooded by the Android fan club - the calculator is amazing, I don’t need to use these calculations but it’s a sign of the way Apple could take things - I have no interest in tinting my icons but android users seem to place great importance in neon pink icons, I’m so glad they had it five years ago.
True, best answer to silence them if you tell them Apple was too busy to make the M1 chip what the competitors still can't copy and release before the M4 already hitted the market. Now they have more time to focus on the small things too, while the others are busy to copy the impossible things..
I still don’t understand why the Journal app is not available on the iPad, especially since they are emphasizing using the Apple Pencil more with these new features- thanks for the content
Well, everything look amazing so far but only one thing I’m concerned is why is equaliser for Apple Music? It’s gone I used to choose my classic rock pulp in Equalizer but I have no more chance do it so I’m slightly disappointed at this.😢
Thanks for this video. I find your top feature and how-to videos for ios, macos, etc to be top notch, well done, clear and concise. I send them to my parents all the time for them to learn about the features and functions of their apple devices. Thank you for what you do!
I was really hoping that the Journal App would come to iPadOS. I stopped using DayOne when Apple’s Journal App came out, but I do the majority of my typing on the iPad. Big miss there. I would also love to have the iPad as my primary computer when connected to an external display with the iPad screen off. Some sort of clamshell mode. I’m sure that would have done wonders for battery life when docked. Otherwise, Apple Intelligence stole the show here. Keep up the good videos. I enjoy the channel very much.
Somewhere I have read that Calendar and Reminder would be amalgamated. I would like a list of appointments in order of time. I get this now by using a tag in Reminder (I think that' the term in English, "promemoria" in Italian) and I work around the problem by giving a particular tag to scheduled appointments. I would, however, expect something "cooler" from Mad. To be safe, I now add appointments to both Reminder and Calendar.
can you ever be able to download 3rd party apps from the internet as you can do on the Mac??? until we can do such thing on the iPad there's no point in thinking of using it as a computer.
Calculator app is great, would really like to see Journal available for iPad.Other than that The IPad (pro)is still by far the best in the market. There is very little I can’t do on it.Improvements on file management would be great.
Thanks for the great overview. There’s a few new things I’m looking forward to. Especially the collapsible headings in notes. I hope the headings I already have in my notes will auto format when the update comes. I do like the way you explain things. Thanks.
I’m looking forward to being able to schedule texts! That’s probably the one thing I used all the time in Android. No I’m not sure. Even they have that feature now.
thank you for the good overview. My minimum expectations would be a files app with an eject feature and a mail client which can search properly and more intelligent (like Outlook can, can't check Google as my mailbox there is too small). Another feature where I don't know who's responsibility it would be to change it would be Plugins for Photoshop. I guess it is the sandboxing in iPad OS which doesn't allow it. The rest would be out of Apple's hand, like a C1 version which supports normal sessions on an external device
I’m hoping that collapsible sections doesn’t only work with typed notes as I do most of mine hand written! Also looking forward to reminders integrating with calendar.
as long as you can update your software to 18.0 should be fine….remember not available until end of summer or fall sorry I forgot that already! If you have your settings to automatically update to latest IOS you will get it…the only other thing I can think of is you need to have enough space to download latest IOS…if you do not you will get a notification that the update is available but…..will give reason….hope this helps. k
Could u please make a video about iCloud Keychain and password managers and how to integrate them into your Apple devices? I’ve searched everywhere to get some good information about this but I feel like you’re probably the best person to explain how to use it and if it’s better to use iCloud Keychain or a different password manager.. especially the settings within iOS. It’s difficult to understand:(. Also I’ve red that iOS 18 is going to make an iCloud Keychain “app”. Curious about your thoughts
It really comes down to this: do you trust Apples servers enough to store your protected info. If yes, then Keychain is a decent password manager. If you are like me and are 90% exclusive to Apple, it’s a no brainer. Turn Keychain on on all your Apple devices and instantly all passwords, login info, credit card info, etc is available to all your Apple devices. Best of all - it’s free. The only downside is it only works with Apple Devices (though the Password App may change that). If you have a mix of devices you use: iPhone, android tablet, and windows PC, then a 3rd party password manager that works across all platforms may be a better solution. 3rd party password managers will generally give you some more options than what KeyChain does, but you also generally have to pay for them. I don’t use a 3rd party password manager, so can’t recommend any or no any pricing details.
Was hoping for some Files/Finder love. 🙁Does the floating menu work in Files? Can I pin my Favorites bar to the top so I don't lose it when traversing my file structure?
Thanks a lot. Quick follow-up question about Notes. Collapsing and expanding text will give my notes a 'home' after dropping Evernote. I wonder if it has the ability to type a character for NOtes to know you want to insert a bullet. I find having to click in the format menu very slow for business notes. Thanks!
They need to optimize notes for it to be a proper not taking app. I have tried using it as a main app but it simply does not compete with notability or good notes , even with these fancy new features it won’t be optimal for serious note takers. No zoom, and importing notes sucks, I have tried sending my notes from the app but it sends my pages as one huge note ruining it, they need multiple pages
On the notes app, am I making it up or did it appear that you could draw in almost any section of the note? Or is it still ‘you must write in this section and draw in another section only’?
In Photos. The Carrousel. You can't add an album that's under a Folder. I have a Folder called Yard. Under it Impounds and Accident albums. Hitting + to add an album these don't show up. Also in Photos I accident added an album to a folder and I can't get it back out.
I don’t think the Password App is any competition as it doesn’t have features like banking details etc. It is a step up for people who currently use one password for everything though.
Excellent update. For me, the calculator app will be the most useful. My request: it would be nice to be able to link to specific notes in other apps, for instance in calendar/reminders.
It's a shame that ipados 18 hardly got any of its own features. Almost everything in this video originated with ios 18, and just got passed down, with exception of the new calculator app (although ios 18 has that too) and the tab bar. Don't get me wrong they're great features, but it's just not enough to make ipados worth using for professionals. I hope wwdc next year focuses more on ipados to hopefully give ipads a way to use all that power.
I will just get my HP48 or TI-30 out if I need a good calculator. My iPad doesn't support the stylus anyway, and it has Touch ID (that latter one I'm sorely missing on my iPhone; I will NOT use Face ID because it feels creepy) I think the iPad could really be something good if it was unshackled from all the arbitrary restrictions of its "bespoke" OS. Currently I only have a non-Pro one for future insurance against web browsing on a real computer becoming undoable. (It's been over 3 years since I pulled that trigger; hopefully things will not change much there.)
I will, no doubt, enjoy all of these new iPad OS features, BUT, iPad OS still doesn’t take advantage of the massive amount of processing power. I was greatly disappointed with Apple’s update.
Everybody was with high expectations, but WWDC was over and I was still waiting for the big features everybody was waiting for. Lots of the new features aren’t really that exciting (sorry, that’s my opinion. You may think otherwise). But I had a lot “I don’t use that, don’t use that, why are they so proud about that change, it’s minor, I don’t really use that” and then it was over. That was it? Maybe if I try first hand I will be more excited about a few improvements, but now I’m still waiting for some excitement. I haven’t seen it.
I like my iPad, but it’s for entertainment with apps that are hampered by iPad iOS. This won’t change because Apple needs you to buy a tablet to watch in bed but also a laptop to for work
I have the iPad Pro 12.9 M1. The hardware is superb. It is seriously good. I love it. What I don't love, what I hate, what I despise about Apple and their Apple Tax, is the willful handicapping of this fabulous hardware. Apple charges your a very high expensive premium for a vastly capable hardware. It's like buying a Bugatti. BUT, then Apple puts in a governor that limits the speed of the Bugatti to 80MPH. Is that good enough? Yes. Can you get to 80MPH is 3.5 seconds? Yes. But you paid for 280 MPH and they only gave you 80. FU Apple. Give us real windows.
Wish I was excited about ipadOS…i used to be a diehard ipad fanboy until I used the galaxy tab S8 ultra. I’ll never use anything else. It’s so much better than even the best ipad.
I’m not going to show AI features in this video, he says, before proceeding to showcase features possible thanks to a diffusion model 😁 we can’t escape it now
AI has been in Apple products for years now. I've been showing 'AI' products in these educational videos for a longtime, just not labelled as such. I think it was pretty clear that in this video, I was referring to the 'AI' features that Apple themselves have segmented out, coming later in the year.
There’s an apostrophe in ‘your’ when used in this context (if you’re literate), it’s the shortening of ‘you are’. It should be “if you’re literate”. Perhaps work on learning that before leaving comments like this.
OMG, now my iPad Pro with M2 will have proper browser that will actually work, office suites will be proper office suites so I can use it as a laptop as advertised, USB will output 192/24 audio like my 7 yo phone, not just cd quality and apple music will do have the same features as android version does, I am so excited!!! What was that? None of that BASIC FEATURES in 2024, just a calculator? That was all the incompetent apple software "engineers" manage to do and just for an M4? So they reach that level of incompetency that they need an M4 power just for a calculator app… ok… apple at it’s best I guess.
Ipad still stays as ipad which is nothing but an oversized iPod to say the least no matter how much apple tries to convince people into thinking that it could be used as computer ever since the introduction of keyboard , m- chips and then some of the few video editing apps with limited features !!!
iPad sales are at least double that of Macs, so I don't think Apple needs to convince anyone. 2023 was a bad year for iPad sales numbers because it hadn't been updated in a year and a half and they still sold 55 million of them. They've sold well over half a billion iPads since 2010.
Well, they was able to fool "small" RU-vidrs with 18 million subscribers like Mrwhosetheboss.. if you check his last video what is his survivor bag, the Macbook was replaced with the iPad 😂 but sure if those who have access to all of the world tech is satisfied it, but you are not, you are that who is right.. i know it's not capable to the same like a Macbook, but still a capable device and can do anything what an average user need in their daily life..
@@bryanbuff Most of such people wont need a computer , but there are vast majority who must rely on computer for their daily use . Except portability or maybe doing sketch or drawing a computer can do almost everything that iPad does but same cant be said for iPad though .
@@5metoo Its still down-to-apples marketing and some tech reviewers trying too hard to convince people to believe that iPad could very well be used as a computer just because you can have a keyboard attached to it and comes with computer chips inside of it but other than that iPad has its own use case for which everyone does buy it but I don't think so it makes any sense for someone get iPad thinking that its a computer. I've heard and seen so many people who regret doing that.
Thanks Tim! One of the features I haven’t seen get a lot of attention is the reminders/calendar integration. I use both and I’m looking forward to seeing how that works.
Excellent video on the new features for iPadOS 18. Due to my eyesight issues, I have extremely difficult time seeing text and other features on white background hence I use dark mode as much as possible. Would this be possible and future presentation videos that you post? If not, I fully understand. Keep up the great work. Sadly, I was not able to sign up for your newsletter due to the I am not a robot requirement which I cannot complete because of my eyesight and the audio portion is so poor that my poor hearing can’t make it out. I’ve run into. I am not a robot more times and I care to shake my head at.
The maths upgrade is extremely clever but it would be so much better if it showed the working out ie how the answer was obtained it would be far more educational
• It's not the best calculator ever, if it doesn't even have the option for RPN. The upcoming calculator app will still be a bit rubbish. • The password app will be kind of lame until one can use it with third-party apps. Back in the day, e.g. Chrome or Firefox could access passwords in the Keychain Access app. On Windows will the password app only be compatible with a Windows installation of Safari? And why not integrate Keychain Access and a password manager? I really hate the fragmentation they've created ever since they started putting password management in Safari and also in the Settings app. Currently passwords can be managed from three different locations. • And finally, the iPad Pro is the equivalent of having a Porsche with a speed limiter set to 40 miles/hr, and really represents Apple's greed. What I would really like is a MacOS mode when the ipad is paired with a keyboard. Oh, but then they wouldn't be able to get some to buy both an iPad and a Mac.
😲Math notes where was this last year when I was taking algebra...oh well I think it will arrive in time for pharmacology....photos app update is a finally moment can't wait to try it between iPad and photo editor/graphic design apps (I'm name blanking the one I use right now)....freenote I wish they would release that now..is scenes coming to just iPad though because as a student if scenes comes to iPhone/MacBook I will finally have a universal device wise study app and that would be amazing in nursing school. This entire update feels like a must for any students using iPad..
I find my iPad struggles when typing in large note files, there is significant lag. Several apps have this issue so I know it is the OS not the apps. Reminds me of IBM computers from the 1980s!
Hello, My M4 13 inches ipad with sim have a troble with AssisstiveTouch, it’s not appearing till restart iPad and when make the option ‘’on’’ no appearing to assisstivetouch just make the touch screen hardly responsive😢 how can I solve the problem
Great report thank you. I watched the keynote so it’s good to hear that there are other things coming too. Like you I have lots of relatives and friends asking for help on iPads etc so the sharing ability is going to be a game changer. I remember doing similar when I was younger with PC’s.
Thanks. A helpful overview - rather than the new “ wallpaper” or “new emoji” that some reviewers come out with. Good to see some work on the notes app. Would have loved to have seen some formatting aspects introduced in the iOS.
Lots of possible new features here - thanks for such clear explanations. (I’ll never get used to folks saying “baiter” (beta) with a UK accent!) I wonder if the collapsing Notes will include pictures as well as text. I’m hoping that one day the PDF export from Notes gains a more flexibility and control.
Passkey app is very useful for me and my mom tbh 😅 can’t keep changing her password every time she forgets anymore, too irritating. Also if Note app have a table-size adjustable feature, and other freely features for the table any close to G-docs, it’d be a brightest day for Apple notes taker like me 🙌🏻😮💨 too limited options right now.
I was hoping for a lot of features to distinguish the PRO line from the base iPad. Nothing. Neither of them can run full pro apps or have MacOS like features. (I need the full Logic Pro and Final Cut at least on the PRO to call it PRO, also multiple floating resizable windows, also multiple sources of audio just like on the Mac, i want to play a RU-vid video, fire up Logic Pro and play my guitar over it etc....many more basic stuff to call it PRO.....) until then, the base iPad is good enough. Maybe next year, they can give it another try.
Y’all really need to stop glazing Tim Cook. This a horrible update. I bought my iPad after advertising it as a laptop replacement. They did not deliver on their promise!! They’re just throwing you some bones, to justify a whole bunch of nothing on these price tags.
I have all Apple devices apart from the phone, I find the Samsung top of the range series infinitely better than the iphone, I never warned to the iPhone after I tried Samsung Most of the reason I don't use the Apple family products is because I don't want to be tied to one system. I think it's purely through bitterness of what Google did copying the iPhone. By the way most of the things that you've mentioned in this article, we're available throughout the last decade
100% agree on re-arranging the collapsed sections within a note! Any chance you could show us the diagramming mode of Freeform? Supposedly it’s a new feature in the update.
