This is the cute little diaphragm that goes inside the oil separator/breather box assembly on most of the 5 cylinder P1 and P3 cars. When this diaphragm is compromised or torn it results in the famous "idle squeal of death" while stuck in daily traffic.
There was a chassis break early in the P1 cars but any cars that have had PCV dealer service are likely updated to the later style. If your early car has been updated to the later style box (indicated by part number 31338685 on the top cover) and the diaphragm has failed again, this is the diaphragm that fits 31338685.
For all P3 five cylinder Turbo (S60/V60/XC60/V70) and P1 five cylinder (C30/C70/S40/V50) from engine 3285662- onward.

Today I replaced that diaphragm but it didn't help. Still noise is there. Probably need to change entire PCV box.

I replaced the diaphragm but the noise is still happening, as well as the excessive vaccume from both the dipstick and the oil fill. Any advice?

Not so easy on a 2006 c70, plastic become brittle and when you try to pop off the cover the plastic housing is gonna Crack. Just replace the whole unit, you'll be glad you did. Any you do not need to remove motor mount, yeah the air box is tight but totally doable to remove

My pcv clogged up and so oil started leaking from every seal in the engine! The previous owner drove the car only for short trips. Ive bought the car just 3 weeks go...

It is easy to replace it once you have the whole part on your hands but don't know where it is located or how to reach it to have access..

Not if the cap is bonded in place like mine was which was purchased new in 2016. Took the lip off along with the cap.

@@jaahasjaahas8729 well it can be done without completely removing it. But it you literally left the airbox in place, then you have serious magic skills. Must be some type of wizard🤣 But maybe you have s60? Or maybe older s40. I have 05 t5 s40 and shits cramped in there

Does this cure high crank case pressure ? I removed that cover and the diaphragm is good but it’s pushing oil out the oil fill cap when I drive it .
@gwaddy4746

You would need to replace the entire breather box in this case, as that is a sign of a blockage
@tomthompson7400
@tomthompson7400 3 года назад
not that handy with it in place , but yes it can be done . I just moved the air box over and that left room , the diaphragm alone did not fix my problem so fitted an oem filter housing complete took me about two hours with an oil change and a cup of tea in the time scale too .

This piece gets screwed up pretty easy... I just replaced my diapraghm like one week ago, lets see how much time does it take to tear again

In an attempt to help the PCV system ad prevent clogging, is it a good idea to install an oil catch can somewhere in the system? If so I'd assume it'd be right before the breather box to prevent it from getting clogged up
@zigzag7194
@zigzag7194 3 года назад
After watching this video. Y'd think they would answer you. And just say yes it can be done. And then do a video on the oil catch can. Who knows they might even get a few $$$$ more. Good question sir 🇬🇧👍🏿🏁

Isnt that the whole point of having a pcv system?
@troylittle5715
@troylittle5715 Год назад
@@christianhudspeth3338 Yes, but the PCV system isn't designed optimally and is a common failure point. Installing an oil catch can could help relieve that issue

Search ‘Ford Focus ST 2.5T Volvo C70 V50 S40 Oil Filter Diaphragm Repair 31338685’ on eBay. See how you get on. The XR5 Turbo is known as ST here in Europe but I’m sure something will come up in your search. The 8 digit number is the OEM part code. Don’t drive your car until this is fixed though dude..
