It was due to the delay in the manufacturing of the 5x lens, for the pro model it couldn’t be assembled in time, so they delivered it with their standard 3x and to get away simply said that there wasn’t enough room in the pro model…..not that bad tbh…..I’m pretty sure with the 16 pros this gape will also be bridged
I think this is a bigger upgrade for someone coming from a XS, 11, 12 series. I think if you have a 13 or 14 series this will be very boring as there isnt a huge difference especially from the 14 pro series. Most phones are so good nowadays that upgrading every year isnt absolutely neccessary unless you have to have the latest thing. Good vid bro.
Exactly! Every year Apple releases a new iPhone. It’s for people who needed an upgrade coming from an older iPhone like way way old like my iPhone 7 Plus.
Along those lines of thinking.. if there’s not much difference with the 14 series… why not get a 14 for half the price? I’m buying a 3 month old mint condition 14 pro max and saving £600. Makes no sense to pay almost double for so little gains… even if coming from an old phone🤯🤯
@@pboytrif1 But there's a difference between the 14 and the 15. So, why not upgrade to the latest one that has USB C. It's future proof and worth it than the 14 who still has the lightning which also you have from your older iPhone, right? :)
Boring is the wrong word entirely, but yeah not sure why anyone with a device that is still faster than top tier Androids (13 Pro) would be too eager to snatch up the newest thing unless they have a carrier upgrade available or something. I use my Pro model iPhones for 3-4 years every time. Keeping my 13P for another 1-2 years minimum
Oh wow you can change the lenses while filming 4k60! This has been one of my biggest annoyances with all recent smartphone cameras. Because filming 4k60 makes this a tradeoff to 4k30 where you can make use of the zoom range during recording. Great to hear! Also the video quality of this review is incredible coming from a smartphone!
I honestly would much rather have a 3x zoom than a 5x one; I use the former a lot for portraits and a 5x is not a practical zoom length for portraits in many scenarios. Apple should've done what Samsung did and provided both the 3x and 5x (10x in Samsung's case), but since they make you choose, I can see some photography enthusiasts going with the 15 pro even if they initially wanted the 15 pro max just to get the 3x zoom.
But Samsung wasn't able to pair that zoom with OIS, so good luck to shoot a night time photo with longer exposure or a video, where every little handsake transformed to a giant leap on the screen. They are good for fast daytime shoots, but the slower/longer shoots like night time or video is pretty unacceptable there.
Great video! But honestly, on some of those photo shots you took in comparison with the iPhone 14 PM, it appeared that some of not most looked better on the 14 PM 😮
So, far this is definitely the highest quality review of these I've watched, love it. Not too cringe, not too overdone, not to effortless. As for the devices, they're definitely better but still don't meet my minimum requirements in some respects, Ram, Display (Base Model), and zoom. As a 3-year iPhone 11 user who's not in any financial situation to be spending anything on phones of all things, if or when I do upgrade, I want it to be as futureproof as I need it to be within my usual ownership range, 3-5 years. What I'm mainly concerned about is how the software effects the experience of the device, both currently and in the future because my iPhone 11 hasn't held up well with these horrendously poorly developed IOS updates, iOS 16/17 being the worst of them I've used. Apple has kind of been losing me here as I feel like there's definitely more compelling competition now that they've been screwing things up from being at the top for so long.
yeah bro , if someone buy a new iphone today they better not update till 2 years, new phone with iOS 17 pretty much has everything. my 13 pro was so good on iOS 15 for a year. only 5 % battery health loss . the i updated to iOS 16 and one year on it battery health is down to 86% and my phone heats a lot. and if i am on face time for 1 hour , i have to charge my phone again. Let's see how iOS 17 works. I kinda wanna replace battery rn.
Thank you! I think ios16 was just a bit buggy regardless of phone, definitely had crashes and slow downs on my 14 pro max. So far ios17 and the 15 Pro has been smooth sailing
One of the major questions with the 15 Pro Max and how it differs from previous generation iPhones e the way the new 5x zoom lens affects Portrait Mode, not just the image quality itself, but the usability and practicality aspects of dealing with such a large zoom increase (from previous 3x zoom). I use 3x Portrait Mode a lot, this is in fact the main factor to make me decide on an upgrade to the latest iPhone or not... I'm really concerned that the 120mm 5x zoom will make it very difficult to use Portrait Mode in several scenarios. So, if you can make a review very much focused in comparing Portrait Mode on the new 15 Pro Max and previous generations, specifically at 3x and 5x zoom and how different approaches and strategies are necessary to shoot the same subjects with these different zoom ranges, it would be really useful.
Exactly my thoughts also. The tradeoffs are not worth it. They instead vould have put a better/bigger sensor on the 3x zoom to make it useable in low light. Hey maybe next year
@@TranceParadiseAs English is not my first language, I had misunderstood what he said in the video. I thought the ProMax had 3x and 5x, but now with your explanation I understand that it doesn't have 3x. Jump straight to 5x
@@cosmicparsec9463 That's the case. I am traveling a lot and taking numeros shots from "behind the wheel" perspective. I simulated 5x with my 14 Pro and and that didn't go to good. Basically the "zoom level" is too big and viewing angle is... well very limited. I can't find it anyhow useful... :(
We need a video comparing 15 pro and 15pro max for 3x and 5x modes only. I'm still deciding if the 5x 120mm is worth it over my initial choice of 15pro. Also compare screen size and battery consumption for both. Because these are the only differences between the two phones.
2:08 Are you really not sure😮??? Apple would never switch to USB-C in another 50 years if the EU is not involved. Your statement was a big red flag for me, instantly losing trust. Now I can't take your opinions as if they were unbiased or uninfluenced in fear of Apple. (BTW I'm an apple user in all aspects typing in iPad, and I believe Apple would upgrade the port to another proprietary "Lightening port-2"... Maybe in 2030s. Or else directly go portless)
i use 13 pro which i bought back in 2021, used the hell out of it. its at 86% after 2 years. So it means heat is major issue because more powerful processors are producing more heat and causing more heat damage with fast charging. Apple never say anything about heat management even though we all know how hot they get while using outdoors. You can almost never use full brightness features cuz it shows heat warning after 5 minutes. But anyway just replace the battery who cares.
My iPhone 14 is still very fast. I don’t see enough compelling reason I should get the iPhone 15. When the excitement of “new” wears off, you’ll see it’s just like any other iPhone out there 😅
Wow, thanks for the detailed and straightforward review. I think it's time to upgrade my phone from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Considering your review, it seems like a great phone with many new features compared to my iPhone 11.
@@fromagetristea phone isn’t about apps only bud. He’s obviously gonna enjoy the 4 year camera upgrades that he doesn’t have on the 11 ( 48MP, 4K cinematic, 4K pro res, 24MP standard, etc,) not to mention the difference in performance between the A17 pro and the A13. His phone doesn’t have a 120Hz HDR display, I could go on and on.
Hmmm I was thinking about upgrading to the 15 from my 11 pro max but I came to a decision that didn’t need to since I’ll be using it for the same apps and just casual use. But I guess if you take photography with your phone really seriously then it’s worth the upgrade. My 11 is built like a tank! lol
Btw. You mentioned you had stutters on your previous iPhone. I have them too on my 13 Pro. And it’s extremely bad! Stutters everywhere! I don’t understand why not more people are talking about this issue. It’s very annoying!
Same on iPhone 13 Pro. I even erased all content and settings thinking this will fix it, but still. Never had stuttering on iOS 15, but iOS 16 and now iOS 17 it’s the same. Maybe they fill fix it on iOS 17.6? 😅
@@gothamj0ker I wouldn’t count on it… Plenty of people have reported this issue (including me) during the iOS 17 beta. And Apple have just ignored it! Guess they just want us to buy new phones
The iPhone 15 Pro having WORSE battery life than the 14 Pro’s astonish me. But I guess the better the chip, the more power it’ll use. This breaks my thought process of the odd numbered iPhones having better battery and the even numbered iPhones having better hardware…
The phone is brand new. Still needs some time to adapt to every day usage. Besides, right now it’s expected to be on the “honeymoon stage”, where you’ll be using the phone a lot more testing its limites since it’s a brand new toy. Give it a week or two and I guarantee, the battery life will surpass the iPhone 14 pro max, especially with all the updates coming after 😊 👍
@@robertmzs I doubt it'll actually get better battery life, but I definitely agree that modern flagship phones are at a point where an hour shaved off their daily battery life here or there doesn't affect you once you get out of that honeymoon phase as you put it. I'm on a 13 which has a significantly shorter battery life than the 14 Pro, and I've only ran into problems once or twice over a year and a half. Until we start seeing battery life that can comfortably last longer than 24 hours, it really has become irrelevant unless your battery is degraded to hell and back.
@@gwenc1371 I saw the Dave2D video and the 15PM gets better battery than 14PM and 13PM. Battery is very subjective, so if like me, you do not game, then the 15PM will get the same or better than the 14PM.
@@andyH_EnglandMy 13PM began life with astonishing battery life. Easily a day and a half. Sometimes two days. Now it’s at 20% by midnight having been charged overnight. Why? I used to use MagSafe charging. Cooked the battery I think. Now I use wireless charging very rarely.
Legit the best early review out there. I don’t get why you wouldn’t film a 15 Pro review on a pro to show off its new video features yet you’re the only ones who’ve done it this early! Footage looks amazingly clean 👾
The recording is good, shows how far smartphones have come tbh. Though I will say I can definitely tell it's an iPhone or a mobile device for that matter since some of the background blur, movement and over sharpening gives it away.
I just got my iPhone 14 Pro Max last Month and honestly I got it because I had a few concerts to attend to. Right now as I’m learning about the 15 pro max, I do want to upgrade but I don’t see a huge difference between the 14 pro max. It’s only the usb c, 5x zoom, new a17 pro chip, and 19 grams lighter >< If the battery life was better, I probably would have upgraded. But let’s see bc I’m still waiting to see how it feels in person. And I want to directly buy it from apple and not an authorized reseller so I’m planning to go to Hong Kong :)
Fantastic review as always! I appreciate the in-depth analysis and side-by-side comparisons. The inclusion of astrology photos of the moon would be a fascinating touch in future videos. It really helps in making an informed decision. Keep up the great work, and I'm eagerly waiting for your next video! 👍📱🎥🌙
Why does 4k60 Prores look so fake at least when you walked outside. Don't like it all. Normal mode looks better. Also I think not many people will use Prores or Dolby vision.
@@Eminem_9696 bruh stop misinforming people by "without fan it's impossible". Even normal android phones with snapdragon 8gen2 still get 80%+ stability and gaming phones without fans get above 95% , in what world are u living on? apple world?
@@Silent.killer_007 , It's impossible , because of drastic battery drain and overheating. At peak performance newest flagship chips are "eating" 8-12W of power. It's enormous for 17-19-watt-hour batteries. No fan-> overheating-> throttling or battery degradation.
@Eminem_9696 My tiny Zenfone 9 can get 78% stability in the same tests. It's not impossible, they just need to add a vapor chamber and thermal paste like other manufacturers have been doing for years
My 13 pro max is at 89% after 2 years but also I’ve heard different about 14 some had bad battery consumption while others had good so it’s also down to use/habits
I’m still using my 13 pro max , I purchased it on launch day almost 2 years ago and the battery life is at 97% , I don’t think I will be upgrading any time soon , zero issues best battery life I’ve ever had in any phone . I do live in the USA and my provider is att and they are offering me 900& trade in for the 15 pro max , I’m just not impressed with the 15 pro 😂
The biggest issue with the 15 Pro Max is the huge distance in focal length between the 13mm, 24mm and 120mm focal length equivalents lenses. That’s a pretty terrible range between the 24mm and 120mm lenses, as everything in between is just digital cropping. Not great for photo or video. Would have been better to have a 50mm lens at 48MP and use digital zooming for the rest.
I don't know why apple is still sharpening the hell out of the images. These oversharpended images look super unnatural, especially when shooting outside. Why can't they make the image look like shot on a DSLR?
It seems to make more sense to purchase the Pro Max if you have the money for it. Not only do you get more battery, but you also have 2x "optical" zoom. So, moving from 2x to 5x optical zoom is IMO more useful than going from 2x to 3x optical zoom.
I'm moderately tempted to upgrade my 13 pro for the 28, 35 and 50mm "lenses" and automatic portrait mode. I'm torn on the 5x. The extra zoom will come in handy at times, but now anything shorter telephoto is going to look like garbage because it will be a 3-4x digital crop. I bet 120mm from the 77mm lens looks better than 77mm from the 24mm lens. Would be cool if they did the larger 48MP main sensor for the 3x telephoto. Then they could have 77mm but it does the same "extra lens" tricks to give 90, 120 and 150mm equivalent.
PetaPixel did test this "digital crop" on their channel and to be honest it is hard to tell the difference if you use it on social media most of the time anyways.. IF not then real camera from Canon or Sony would be better pick anyways..
don't just buy for a mediocre zoom, you might as well as buy a real camera, i used to shoot with iphone lens the video n pic quality is so fake and over saturated and over sharpen. I've switched to fujifilm xs20 camera and now I can't stand the iphone video looks.
It all for the most part sounds good but the panel still runs at 60fps which is ridiculous. I'll wait for the Samsung S24 Ultra and compare that to the 15 Pro Max before upgrading
Returned my iphone 15 pro and first time having a pro max! So far loving the battery and the screen size. Bit heavier but hopefully will get used to it.
Hey Tom, on battery health, I noticed that my 13 Pro Max degraded quite fast and theorised that this was down to the MagSafe charger, so with the 14 Pro Max, I stuck with wired charging only, with optimised battery charging. With 2 days and a bit to go till the switch to the 15 Pro Max, I’m at 95% battery health. Although the iOS 17 betas chewed through battery health from 99% in June to 95% now.
It's just luck. You got lucky. Probably had a good bit more than the specified capacity in the 14 and almost exactly the s. capacity in the 13 is my guess. Wireless does play a role, but usually other factors like that outweigh it.
@@Alex-tu5vuluck?😂😂😂my 13 pro max was on 100% when i sold it after a year And the battery still lasted almost 2 days I used magsafe as well The problem is not the magsafe The problem is that unguys charge ur phone till 100% and let it go under 20% I always charged my phones in the same way Basicly random charges through the day never under 20% or over 80% And all my phone had 100% after a year or a year and a half Except with the 14 pro This phone doesnt worth a penny . . . Its on 90% now and i have around 3 hours battery life fro. 100% to 0% With this phone i cant do the same thing like i did with the others cause i would get like 1,5~2 hours So if the 15 pro or pro max has the same or worse battery life then apple should bin them now
I have a 13 pro max I wanted to upgrade to the 15 pro max but the 5x instead of the 3x is a big concern for me. I love the 3x lens and I just wish they didn’t change it! 15 pro is too small for me
Same here. Find the regular pros to be too small and the pro max almost to big. That's why I went with a pixel 7. The is is right smack in the middle of those 2 phones.
I believe Apple held back on innovation a lot this year because of being forced to switch to usb c. This possibly screwed up the iPhone lineup for 3 years.
Up/downgrading from my iPhone 13 Pro Max to the iPhone 15 - really curious how I'd like the smaller size phone. Others have experience with the switch, which do you prefer?
I only use telephoto lens for portraits and I think I like Pro's 3x lens better than Pro Max's 5x. This was my only concern but you guys verified that my intution was right. I always use 90 or 85mm lense for portraits.
One of the most important thing is a Android smartphone user people are actually taste type "C" charger many many days earlier.... Finally apple user people are also feel the same taste 😂😂 and they feel so happy for using type "C" ... it's a good thing i really like it
The worst part of ordering a new iPhone from apple is the waiting time. They’re estimating I’ll get it by 7th November. Admittedly I’ve gone for their most popular colour (natural titanium) but even still, wasn’t expecting to wait that long for it. Surely a company such as apple would know the size of demand by now? It is annoying.
@@11cesarrenatoI hope your right. I’m trading in my 11 pro max and paranoid it’ll get broken between now and the time I send it off to them. It’s not a huge saving but still brings the 15 pro max to under a grand.
I have the 14 Pro ( as I like the Pro size better than the Pro Max). I’m not going to upgrade, I don’t see a huge difference between the phones for me to upgrade this year. Maybe next year for me. Still very happy with my 14Pro and the Purple color tbh. Also the fact that with iOS 17 we can take HEIF MAX pictures it’s a good thing so we can use the full 48MP without having to take RAW pictures which are very large in size.
Neither phone honestly seems to completely fall apart when directly comparing their 3x/5x modes, which surprises me. I fully expected the Pro Max to be hot garbage at 3-4.9x, and similarly the Pro to be awful at 5x. Really seems like a matter of preference on which focal range you prioritize, and if you will ever use the extra digital zoom the Pro Max gets, rather than strictly needing to get one or the other if you ever want to get a usable photo out of it's zoom gap.
Say thanks to Europe for USB C. Apple is a miserly company and despite the eco system they talk so much about, for the money they would have easily continued with the old lightening. and please, you're nice but don't always stoop to magnifying Apple iPhone products, this year too little will change and spout marketing nonsense talking about optical zoom? But when ever? They're funny.
Pretty much same as 14 pro from performance to camera. I think they are about to hit a peek. Next two years for android to fully catch up. Mostly qualcomm and mediatek
@@Joske0000 yeah, qualcomm is damn slow in cpu upgrades. But thier gpu upgrades are monsterous, i mean sd 8gen 2 is 2x more powerful than sd 888 in gpu meaning they give 35-50% gpu perfomance upgrades per year. Only if qualcomm keep upgrading thier cpus like thier gpus then they can catch apple in 2 years as u said
Going from 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max. The USB-C switch is enough to change. I’ve been Android since the G1. Switched to iPhone last year. My entire house is USB-C on every charger except 1. Add in all the other little upgrades and it was an easy decision for me. Especially when 14 Pro Max are selling for $850-900 around me
I’m running a 13 mini. Can’t decide whether to upgrade to the 15 pro. I want my next device to last 4-5 years, so I want a pro model. Not sure whether to wait for the 16 pro… any thoughts?
Really disappointed that yhe battery life is worse wtf! I was really hoping it was going to be better then they are sqying because of the 3NM chip but 10 perfect faster and even worse or same efficiency. We were expecting 20 percent performance improvement and 30% efficiency performance per watt. I know its the early version of the 3NM process but yeah sad to hear. I already bought the 15 Pro Max but nog im kinda disappointed in the efficiency. More battery life is always nice. Same with the Apple watch what’s up with that bought the ultra 2 but seeing it is nog 5NM instead of 7NM I was expecting more effciency but again they don’t say there is a battery life improvement. (Except for the low power mode)
I’m upgrading from 14PM to 15PM. Like you say, small incremental updates, but updates all the same. Great video by the way, showing off Wells in the sun as well as the rain 😉 Saw you on Sat by Waitrose car park, but you were engrossed in something while walking lol 😂
@@AnonN-sr6uu 20% faster GPU yes but they added a 6th core which is already a 20% jump from the previous 5 core GPU, where are the improvements from the switch to 3nm? Or the All new Apple shader architecture?? And the CPU has even smaller gains
I'm upgrading my 12 Pro to a 15 Pro Max. I finally decided that after 3 years it was a worthwhile upgrade over my current phone. The USB C got me over the line. I'm interested to see that the daily use iPhone 14 Pro was down to 88% and my iPhone 12 is down to 84% but with 2 more years of use. I'm also pretty abusive with my battery, draining it to nothing almost daily and sometimes a couple times over e.g. get it back up to 20% then draining it again.
@@CeauxTee504 I have one phone an iPhone 12 Pro. In my original comment I was comparing my 12 Pro with the 14 Pro shown in the video. Because I found it interesting that my 3 year old 12 Pro only has 4% less battery health than the 12 month old 14 Pro. Which raises concerns for me about the battery longevity of current iPhones. I hope that makes it clearer.
I think the video quality shown in this review shows a big difference from a normal video camera. The sky never looks good on iPhone. Details on the houses in the background has a bit odd sharpening on them. The saturation is too high so grass is very colorful. Still interesting to see since the iPhone is so convenient.
I don't think iPhone will ever have fast charging. Charging slower will always keep your battery safe and they know that. I always charged my 13 with a cable and after almost 3 years, it's at 93%. But I ordered the 15 pro anyway :P
@@Thetechchap I was waiting for the mini to come back and they made them larger. No way I'm going for the 16 :). 40w is still not really fast charge, but it's pretty fast.
For me the change in the design with the less sharp edges is enough to go from 14Pro Max to !5 Pro. Also the 14Pro max was too big for me. I like to type one handed, and it was not pleasant on the 14Pro Max. I usually keep my phone for a long time (my last one was a XR), but this time, the small changes and the need to go out of the max size is enough to change... I will look at the Android offering, but I don't think it will have significant benefits for me to switch...
Okay, can we just appreciate that the video looks so good! Thank you for shooting this entire thing on just the iPhone. I was scared to use my 14 Pro for my own videos. But after seeing this I will use it way more.
I’m on an iPhone 11 Pro max.. and the leap between iPhone 14 and 15 pro max leap doesn’t feel worthy enough. Im getting a 3 month old 14 pro max for almost half the price of a 15 pro max. For £600 saving I get better 3x camera shots, the hint of possibly better battery life according to your battery segment and as cool as the depth capture in any camera mode is… I’ll take the cash saving👍
I like the Titanium but not enough to want to upgrade from the 14PM. The cameras are never a big selling point for me, and, honestly, I don't care enough to look for the barely noticeable improvements; I'm pretty sure most of us don't do a deep dive when it comes to image quality. The difference has to be striking to even care. Happy 1000, btw!
Be care full of back glass of iphone 15 pro max there are easier to crack on jerry rig videos Btw the iphone 15 plus is the most longest battery almost 14 hour on mrwhosetheboss
This year definitely seems like one of those "refinement" upgrades. I reckon Apple are gonna do something controversial and extremely different with their iPhone line-up in the coming years and people will look back on the 15 with a lot of fondness for how well it did everything they wanted
