iPhone 4S Complete Disassembly and LCD Screen / Digitizer Replacement Walkthrough Tutorial

Thank you my friend. I disassembled my iPhone 4s, and a tiny gold piece I didn't know where I got it out from. So I watched some images on Google but I could find the place. Finally I saw your video and at minute 8:10 found where it goes, but you took no good care of it in video. I guess it deals with the LED light and camera because it didn't work when I assembled it. Anyways thanks a lot.

I like this better than other tutorials, because, not only are you clear about the steps, you aren't strictly formal which gets pretty boring.

@Modded25 There is only one model of iPhone 4S. It houses a dual GSM/CDMA chip whereas the iPhone 4 had two separate models. Ergo, all iPhone 4S, be it Verizon or any other, will have a SIM tray.

The video was great! All you need is a little patience while you watch it and take your time. It allowed me to install a broken screen and digitizer assembly with very little trouble. I must say, however, that I somehow left out one tiny screw when I was done. Dang. Need to go back and check the video to see where I messed up. In any case, my iphone 4S works again and it only ended up costing about $30 for the kit. Also, love the sense of humor in the video. Reassemble - watch backwards.

At 10:30, you don't need to take those difficult screws all the way out. Just loosen them so that way it is easier to put back.

I would never want to disassemble my iPhone but the only reason i watched this video is for your awesome commentary! laughed so many times!

Awesome video. I had a couple parts fall out that I did not know where they went. I figured it out though. 1. There is a gold conductor under the camera assembly. Super small, simply fits over the screw hole next to the camera assembly. 2. There is a rubber gasket on the motherboard located over the white sticker which is next to the camera assembly area. This is the white sticker covered by the black electrical tape that is in place to let apple know if you have taken your iPhone apart.

My Daughter dropped her iphone 4s and display stopped working with the phone still operating, I followed this guide then rebuilt it making sure all of the connections were firmly in place and whalla sorted it, Thank you.

Great tutorial. Step by step and very fun to watch. Describing (most) of the parts you'll encounter on disassembly. I needed a tutorial like this to navigate through the iPhone 4s to see where the WiFi chip is located and what it looks like. Because I felt like it -_-

The philips screwdriver #00 did not work for me. Bought #000 from homedepot and that worked perfectly. Thanks for the video tutorial.

Quinn, nice tutorial. One point though, the six screws on the sides ( the ones with the washers) only need to be loosened, not removed. Hat way you don't have to keep track of the washers and it saves you some trouble re-assembling the iPhone.

Just a tip, the six screws with the washers don't need to be fully taken out, just loosened. This will safe a lot of time and frustration. However, make sure when you replace the screen, the washers are on the outside of the screen's 6 holding brackets. :)

Trust me the first time I did one I felt the same way, but somehow it all worked when I put it back together. I suggest getting a blank sheet of paper before doing this and label where all of your screws come from as you take it apart.

Great disassembly video but should cover the small gold, grounding fork and rubber bumper that comes off when the screw under the piece of tape on the motherboard is removed. I used this reassembly video, which also didn't cover the grounding fork!

The Device drivers installed on the motherboard would not allow for most other parts to work between iPhone models. In addition to hardware/software issues, the frame of the actual phone does not always allow for mounting the hardware not intended for it.

Hi, I am wondering about fixing the speaker... the top speaker, not the bottom speaker... the one that you use when the phone is up to the ear... where and how is that and how would I find/fix that? Thanks -Great video.

Great. I actually broke that MOFO connector on the top right corner that you said "lift 45 degrees and pull with fingers". That stupid sh*t part almost made me a heart attack. Nice video, funny, thanks.

Its goes under the screw and between the logic board he removed around 7:55. You can also see it in the next few steps floating around in the area where the camera goes but it never gets a mention in the video…

Hi I just bought Iphone 4s from a guy who said it got wet and he didn't have time to get it fixed. He also had and extra battery because he thought the battery was ruined. I ordered a simple kit online before i saw your video. It had gotten wet as the little strip had turned red, The little black clip under the battery is gone. Does that matter? Two screws are gone on the circuit board. Does that matter? Any help would be good. Thanks Barry

watch the video carefully when pulling the main board out, I think it belongs underneath the camera piece, I see a full brass metal piece there and later in the video its not there. Looks like he forgot to cover that part, it;s the only place I see it I will be reassmebling the phone later tonight and I will post once completed but I am pretty sure it goes there . If you go to 8:20 mins you can see it (i think) in the top left corner where the camera used to be. LMK if you confirm this. Thanks

I've done this before just be very careful with unscrewing like he said the screws cables are easy to come off.

Great video. The six side screws with the washers do not need to be removed. They can be loosened about one turn. Much easier than reinstalling them. Just be careful when putting on the screen that the tabs are under the washers, not over.

Hi. Y've tryed to change my battery by myself using the video. But i've made a mistake when i tryed to install the new battery. I've put the small black bravket over the battery connector instead of under. And i think it shorten something because now my silence button does'nt work anymore neither the microphone for videos or facetime. Do yo have any suggestions please?

Hello I have 2 questions the little black piece that goes under the battery connector how do I put it bck? Or is it not important? Also after everything is back together I can see the screen is lit from the inside of the phone but the screen is blk I can hear all sounds n I can't answer calls but I can text or make calls using Siri can u please help???

I just want to say you do not have to remove the six side screws completely just loosen them about 2 turns each and do that first so it makes it a little easier to take out the corner 4 .

Hi ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy, I was waiting for you to show if the digitizer can be separated from the inner LCD. Someone i know broke his iPhone 4S digitizer, can i just buy a digitizer on ebay and replace it or do i have to buy digitizer + LCD glued each other? Im asking cause i dont have the phone with me. I was reading on the net that that the digitizer only its a lie. Ill apreciate your help in this. Happy business ;) Regards

I did not understand why the need to disconnect the engine vibration, I do not think it bothers?

Took off power and volume buttons in error and mesh earpiece was not on new screen removed to switch over then proceeded to lose. Cable that goes to power button bent afraid it is ruined hard to see what part or procedure often hands in way on video printout and video are not same sequences and no way to access reassembly promised. Can you please repost the 4s reassembly video really would be nice thank you.

already have changed twice my 4s , under warranty ! Third one recently failed, extremely low sound in "normal" ear speaker (upside), and after a check by authorized phone dealer it's worse now, loudspeaker option is dead , nothings is heard and or send ... !!! next phone will be a BB Z10... sigh

Wife broke i4s screen but was still able to use slide/touch screen. Followed your video (repl'd screen) and screen does not accept touch/slide. Opened & re-checked cables, all snapped secure. Any recommendations?

after getting my screen replaced, my iphone 4s started to reboot randomly. Now, it only turns on when plugged in, there is no wifi or cellular or bluetooth (greyed out), it crashes and restarts every five minutes and there is no possible way to fix it. I can get it to stay plugged into itunes recovery mode without restarting but I don't want to restore it. I can't update because it's jailbroken, so I have no choices. Battery replacement didnt work, I took it apart and replaced it myself and it just won't stop restarting or crashing. Help?

My iphones wifi worked good before i took it apart to replace the screen and now that its back together the wifi only works when im not more then a foot away from the router.

So I did all of this, and then when I go to use my phone part of the screen doesn't respond when i touch it. Is the screen broken or did i do something wrong?

Hey there, I have been fixing a lot of friends phones and others from my school. Including 3G, 3GS and 4. I was just asked to do a 4S for the first time, I was wondering if the LCD/Digitizer is the same for the 4 and 4S. I noticed a lot of the inside of the 4S has similarities to the 4. And i noticed the two cables from the Digitizer/LCD look the exact same for the 4 and 4S, but whether they can be used in either I'm unsure. Please help me out before i buy 4S screens when i didnt need to Thanks

Are the "digitizer" and "LCD Screen" the same thing? The same part? Because I changed the Display and the touch screen still malfunctions.

Well the back cover will be extremely easy, since it's just removing two screws, but the only thing I can think of that would be risky is losing parts, not reattaching something, like the diode beneath the battery, or just damaging individual parts. Now, if you're careful, and have enough space to make sure you don't lose pieces and make sure everything is put back and is in contact, then you should be fine. Be careful and you should be fine.

What could be the reason for light leakage around the outer edge of the screen?
