No noone is underestimating them. Just the media who like to overhype everything. You say they are in a good position, I don't know what you mean. You say they will beat Ireland, well yes they very well may do, you aren't a prophet for picking them over Ireland, there are only 2 teams in the match. As an Ireland fan I fell it very unlikely that Ireland will win the whole thing. I think winning it before is massive and these guys haven't spoken about that. Ireland will have psychological hurdles to cross if they are to win it and they will also have to beat Scotland then New Zealand then Maybe England then Maybe South Africa again. It's possible but I don't think we will do that.

As a springbok fan I want to congratulate Ireland for their victory, what a game it was. Sure SA missed kicks and that could be frustrating to watch, but rugby is all about accuracy and Ireland were the more accurate team and the deserved winners. I hope both teams will meet again in the final, for another awesome game. If Ireland would win that would be immense for the country but also for rugby in general, first time for Ireland winning a world cup. to be honest: had South-Africa had a goalkicker on the field, it was a comfortable win for them. 11 points missed is quite a gift to Ireland. Also, that last rolling maul of SA that collapsed could very well have been a successful try. Ireland did not beat the Springboks , the Sprimgboks lost the game with a few very unlucky moves. When they meet again in the final, Pollard will play and Ireland will lose this time, as they should have on Saturday.

Let's put the boot on the other foot! If Johnny missed all his kicks...it would have been a similar situation. Now we can play this silly game of "What if" all night long, but Ireland was more successful in executing theirs. I still respect the outcome and congrats to Ireland once more. @@starrider529, (Repost of the comment I left) Irish fans celebrating like they just won the cup, is kinda' funny. (That's not taking anything away from Ireland's performance, though.) Apart from the fact that we left *at least* 8 points (in reality more, but let's keep it conservative) on the field, Ireland played their best possible team. The Boks did not. If (because the ABs could pull a rabbit out of the hat, unlikely, but possible) they were to face us in the final, it will be a whole different ballgame. At the same time it seems ‘revenge’ no longer cuts it for NZ. They actually lack the skill as a team to win at will. Of course they can beat Ireland, but there are question marks hanging above them that didn’t hang there in the past. They’ll need to dig really deep. And then, can they repeat it? It’s an exciting competition!

@@servaashofmeyr271 honestly, their potential semi final opponent will likely be a weaker opponent than Ireland should the ABs make it past Ireland so their chances of repeating are slightly better. I think Ireland are the deserved favourites but at the same the ABs have defeated both Ireland and SA in the last 12 months. Both occasions by handsome margins so if the ABs are on that night then they have a good chance of winning. It’s just whether they’re on given their patchy form lately.

ABs are definitely a bigger threat now than the last time they played Ireland. There’s no comparison. ABs management has changed, Jason Ryan has been brought in to take over the forwards and Joe Smith for the backs. The ABs have new props. I think the bald gentleman is onto something, though i think it's a mistake to assume that Rassie and Jacques made a mistake. The whole gameplan was very unusual for the Boks, never mind the decisions to take goal kicks that were low probability. They picked a 23 that emphasised the forwards, but then they played most of their rugby in the backline. They were even launching passes from the top of the lineout jump straight into the backline. SA do not play like this, particularly if they are being challenged in physicality, or when they know that their opposition is expert at turnover ball in the breakdown. They keep the ball amongst the forwards, they maul, they make short passes to pods of forwards or de Allende, if nothing happens over 5/6 phases, they kick it to get the opposition turning round and to set their defensive line higher up the field. As the bald gentleman suggests, this is how they will likely play in the knockouts. This just seems too odd for the guys that turned the worst Bok team in history into World Champions over night, so I'm inclined to wonder what kind of questions that game was meant to answer, or what boxes it was meant to tick. And on the long range, low probability shots at the poles, i wonder if it's not as simple as just wanting to stick Libbok and De Klerk into the pressure cooker and see what they do, because they want to know exactly how Pollard is going to fit into the whole mix. There is a question mark over whether he can make 80mins yet, so there is still a lot of thinking to do on the topic.
@Karma-qt4ji
@Karma-qt4ji 9 месяцев назад
I agree on almost everything. But much as I like and respect Pollard, I believe we needed a proper second hooker in those dying minutes more than we needed a better kicker - for all the talk of poor kicking, let us not forget the unforced error that turned a 5y attacking lineout into an Irish defensive scrum; or the final maul that had no hooker securing the ball at the tail as Bongi and Malcolm always do. A proper replacement hooker and then we needed Manie to do what he really does do well - hammer every penalty into the corner and let the 15 forwards wreak whatever havoc they can. There is only so much pressure that the opposition can take and we hardly exerted any.
@kevinewert8546
@kevinewert8546 9 месяцев назад
@@Karma-qt4ji that's kinda the thing. It seems like winning wasn't the top priority, else they would've made different decisions. It was a priority, just not the top priority. On Marx's replacement, Dweba wouldn't have been in that team either. They like the players to train for a week, and if the player doesn't train on the Monday then they're not in the team announced on Tuesday, and they only released Marx on the Sunday. So I doubt any of the problems you mentioned would've been resolved regardless. I imagine the Dweba is the next in line for the call-up though.

@@kevinewert8546 They held onto Marx long enough to see if Deon / Marco could make the cut - they could have called Dweba up a couple of days earlier and he would have made the training on Monday. Dweba is not in Marx' league but he does play for the Stormers alongside Kitsie and Frans - so you start with him and bring on BongiCrew later to do what they always do :) In that final maul, I would have bet my house that you'd see Bongi at the back with the ball under his arm and we have won a good couple of games in the final minutes with Bongi just doing Bongi things.

Yes, the Boks were chasing the game and Ireland were defending.. what’s the point, that how it works. The point is the Boks could not fix the issues with their kicking. Ireland had issues with there line outs and fixed their problems. If Ireland had the line outs right they could have scored another 2 tris potentially. Ireland played exceptionally in parts and performed under par in other parts. There were 6-7 substitutes made by Ireland in the last 20 minutes. So to say they were out on there feet is incorrect. They remind me of the 2011/2015 All Blacks, unapologetic in the breakdown competition, very complex attacking structure and great defense. However, if SA kick those 11 points then they might have won it. It shows how important a reliable test level kicker is. Also, Ireland have beaten SA both times, while Pollard did not play. If the Rugby gods are willing, we might see an Ireland/SA final where Pollard is indeed the starting 10. Ireland have had the last two games, by less then 7 every time. Ireland have edged it but the two teams are very close. I think run through NZ unless something goes horribly wrong. SA have a much easier French side to face without Dupont or Ntamack, but the French are still an amazing team but not as good as Ireland I think.

Best game of the world cup so far. SA experimented with a few things, running the ball back, timing of replacements, long range kicks. And SA still could have won it. I think both teams will be happy with their ability to play knockout rugby at the highest level - steel sharpens steel. And both teams have their homework, lineout for Ireland, kicking for SA. Ref kept the game going, consistent on the scrum penalties and didn't stop to look at every ruck cleanout. Both teams were incredibly accurate with keeping their tackles low and anyone who still claims that high shots are inevitable needs to watch this game again. The quarters on this side of the draw are going to be epic.

Who held more back in that game? I am a bit one eyed as a bok fan of course, but a couple of really weird things I noticed. The boks did not maul until the 70th minute, and they showed absolutely nothing in the backs. Additionally Marx provides the balance to the bigger ball carrying loosies, and I doubt we will see bongi, siya and wiese together again. Ireland really exposed this in the first half. The first point is the most obvious, but South Africa have massively developed their back play over the last 18 months, and I saw none of it. Almost as if to not give Ireland the chance to see anything before the final. Ireland also seemed to also be holding a couple of things back, but likely not as much given the relatively higher importance of the game for them. With my again somewhat biased slant, SA have much more room to improve, or have a lot more in the tank to give, which I believe makes me still fairly confident that they are favorites to win the cup. On the flip side Ireland are producing consistently so onus is on boks. France are probably the team right now that are the most underperforming vs their potential, and the boks are not the team you want to come in undercooked physically to, which is pretty unfortunate timing for them.

Well said .... boks normally change their game plan in second half if it did not work first half....ie more up and under kicks and going for the corner... and we passed the ball out wide taking it away from our dominant pack with 7-1 bench. High risk game from Rassie but what do you expect 🤓

@@eugeneduplessis140 100% Rassie was still experimenting and I believe it is because he would rather face Ireland in a final than France...if we beat Ireland, they would have had to play France having their confidence massively knocked...France would almost certainly win. Even with the Bok’s making some mistakes Ireland backs clearly came in on the side of the last line out ball to collapse it when we were going for the line. This was in front of the ref and should have been a penalty try under the posts for a Bok win. And why is nobody talking about the super grip being applied when water ball or medical staff coming on. Only water may be brought on. Sextant was down with cramps and medical team on the field slipped him a tiny bottle of cramps eaze. Again this is on par with doping as no meds allowed on the field. If you get caught doping what happens in other sports. It was a tough day in the office but poor officiating will be what this World Cup is remembered for.

@@brawlingmac4682 o’Keefe was fair, we didn’t adjust to him is all. I could go sour grapes, but Ireland won 4 or more penalties from holding in the tackler, but we could have, but didn’t do the same. A lot of rugby still left until the Quarter Finals...there are still 4 Teams who could Win the Tournament, anything is possible...still too close to call - the Real Competition starts at the Knock-Out rounds where the requirement is to win 3 games in a row getting the job done 1 game at a time. Ireland will have the most pressure on them ever as a team being Ranked 1, so will France as being the host nation. South Africa & NZ flying just under the radar who has been there before will certainly fancy their chances of causing an upset. I would rather have NZ than France. Why? 1) France are the home team. 80, 000 French supporters outnumbering the Irish would place us at a disadvantage. The game against NZ will actually be like a home game for Ireland 2) NZ are haunted by their defeats to Ireland, while Ireland know and believe they have the measure of the All Blacks. Ireland are ahead of NZ still. Ireland have a terrible record against France in Paris, but have proven they can beat NZ anywhere. 3) Antoine Dupont is back. 4) All the pressure is on the All Blacks. They know we want them. Even though we have never won a quarter final, we want the NZ over France.

The Irish fans can scoff at this comment as much as they like (and attempt their go-to "oh ye so salty" insults), but it's the truth. Also note as an observation, not once in this comment did I insult anyone, but I do not expect the same in return. I really like this Irish team, BTW. EDIT: I'm still extremely confident that the Boks will take the cup. It will be tough, but they'll do it with Pollard's help, of course. EDIT 2: Commented before watching the clip. After clip: Berch sees it too.

"the truth" The only actual truth is, you lost again against Ireland. Everything else is blah blah blah. Be thankful you dont have to play the ABs. Wish we didnt have to 😂

@@Patch801, I don't believe I said anywhere in my comment that Ireland lost this pool match...🤷‍♂

@@Keizer_Soze can you read? Did I mention you said we lost? Think not, I simply referred to your "truth", you said Ireland played there best team and the boks didnt and it would be different if we meet again, (paraphrasing here) and that this was the "truth", thats not truth, thats a future prediction. I gave you the "actual truth" not a prediction.

Wow wow wow, am I the only one shocked by the title of this video? Like shocked. I mean, I hate to break it to these misinformed Irish pundits and greater Irish ☘️ people, but Ireland 🇮🇪 have NEVER EVER went past RWC QFs, and to talk about winning the RWC title above ABs and Boks is “Cocky” and misinformed. ABs and Boks are the RWC playoffs teams, they find a way to win. That weekend win made some Irish pundits and fans’s head too damn big. That was not thee game, I don’t think that even matters to the Boks now, they got what they needed out of that game and on to the real RWC playoffs games and gear up another level,so are the ABs.
