@chadjohnson-authormusician8072
It's both. It's a tune that's more specifically a reel. You correcting him/her on that is like someone calling a Mustang a car and you saying, "Car? It's a Ford."

The Childe Ballad known as the Ballad of Tam Lin, the most famous version written by Rabbie Burns, was not sung to this tune. This tune was composed in the 70s by Davey Arthur. It is also known as the Glasgow Reel and also the Howling Wind.

Gaelic was brought to Scotland by colonists from Ireland towards the end of the Roman Empire in Britain. By 500 A.D. these Gaels had established their Kingdom of Dàl Riada, centered on what is now Argyll in southwest Scotland; in Gaelic, Earra Ghàidheal, "the coastland of the Gael." To Roman writers they were Scotti -- Scotia at this time denoted Ireland -- although these names cannot be traced with certainty to an origin in Gaelic itself. But from these Latin forms came the name Scotland.

European people have had to flee to the colonies during numerous times in history, to escape a myriad of hardships and life threatening scenarios. Scottish, Irish, Germans, Dutch, these European people's comprise every population in the colonies, from Canada to the Appalachia's, From South Africa to New Zealand. White European people have suffered a lot during the US' very history, like during the colonial era, or the civil war, a lot and I mean a LOT of white people were murdered and suffered other atrocities
