RIP Dermot O'Brien Absolute genius on that piano accordion He could almost make it talk Im in awe because its awesome Legend in his lifetime and beyond
Dermot came from Ardee County Louth often referred to as the wee County as its lrelands smallest county But as a musicial genius he travelled far and wide but the humble Dermot never forgot his roots as he sung great songs such as The Turfman From Ardee The Merry Ploughboy and many other great songs He was a true gentleman too May he rest in peace
i had the great time when i was 19 ,i met dermot in midway pub manchester ,did ordition as drummer ,got the job out to dubia then scotland and london, had great time ,i seen somthing i think alot of people don t know ,in a place we stayed in scotland dermot was handed 3 row and 5 row accordions and boy he played better on them, he did same in clingscales music store scotland ,i was there with him, mad to see how he played all accordions
Dermot was an amazing musician and it’s a lot more difficult to play Irish music on piano accordion and such fantastic triplets and ornamentation an amazingly talented musician thank you Dermot for all the music R.I.P
I agree...Dermot was a great player but to play Irish Tradition Music (i.e. Reels, Jigs & Hornpipes) the Button/Chromatic Accordion is the answer...I made the mistake of learning piano when I was a kid...All I wanted was to play reels, jigs etc...Had to start all over when I bought a button accordion..
