Me as well I was 9 in 92...lines used to be longer & this coaster was faster but now it crawls through the final helix...I missed the gray supports also..... It serves a purpose & still a nice ride that you can walk onto....on most days...so I do as I heading past...only takes a few minutes to get another ride in so you can't beat that
I liked it, it had a very tame first half and a surprisingly intense second half, I'm not saying it went from Taxi Jam at Canada's Wonderland to El Toro but it was surprising and strangely forceful, I name it "most likely to be that coaster you ride because Millennium Force and Rougarou have a long line"
I remember when I was young we rode (us GPs referred to it as "the") Iron dragon and it was a very fun roller coaster when you are 7! Great family ride!
A 3.5/10? Really? From what you're saying it sounds like a 5.5/10 or 6/10. I'm happy to ride a family coaster at a park to prepare for Kingda Ka, Full Throttle, Diamondback and Leviathan. I think you should have a different rubric for Family coasters because that means that these certain kinds of coasters would get a higher rating for the park's intentions for them to be there in the first place. Giving a coaster like this a 3.5/10 is kind of denying it's purpose. This ride for me is a 6/10. Cheetah Hunt and Expedition Everest would get 10/10s.
+Pop Films If it's advertised as a family coaster we, as coaster fans, take the park's word and judge it by a family coaster rubric. NOT the same rubric used for Montu and Xcelerator
This was a great starter ride for my 9 year old twin nephews. We started here and worked our way up eventually getting them on Magnum and Wicked Twister....that was about as big as they would go. All in all with this and Cedar Creek Mine Ride they were properly introduced to minimal thrills and were happy to get on some bigger coasters afterward. PS....if you get a chance try the VR on this. It truly adds a unique aspect to it.
I really like Iron Dragon. I always have to ride it at least once when I go to CP. This was the first coaster I took my two tween nieces on. I wanted to gauge their response to see if they could handle the second one, Millennium Force. : )
My six year old, who is tall for his age, just rode MF 3 times and loved it. I'm so proud. And yes, we rode iron dragon too. Same height requirement. 48 inches.
I rode Iron Dragon this past summer hoping to relive the Big Bad Wolf to a small extent. It didn't quite do that. That being said, I liked ID just fine for what it is. Had a good time, but it's definitely a family ride.
I like this ride even if it's not the tallest, fastest or most insane at the park. Don't get me wrong, I love Dragster and Millennium Force, but this is a fun ride! It's tame (and in my opinion) smooth. The only thing I don't like about it is the restraints. Other than that 7/10.
When I rode this coaster I sat in the front seat and it was an awesome experience. You start off in the forest and then you go over a lake and it seems like you are just flying. It's for sure a front seat coaster.
I truly liked this ride. I'm not saying it's the best in the whole world, but I really did like it, especially swinging over the lake. It was my very first suspended roller coaster for starters. Funny thing is, my mother wasn't really sure about this ride at first, but my father managed to talk her into it.
This was my first coaster, rode it when I was ten. I personally still love it, but I'm not real picky about coasters, I see a purpose in riding the big and small. Bummer, I had been on a roll with watching your Cedar Point reviews, I was hoping you'd like this one, lol.
1:21 That's the money shot right there. I remember that being on the 1987 brochure. It used to be faster, they slowed it down for some reason. Maybe because it's old.
I'm glad that you'll get to ride Vortex at Canada's Wonderland this coming summer. I know it's the same layout as The Bat at KI, but I think the setting and scenery will make it just a touch better. Vortex is usually my starter at CW, which is my home park.
Quinton Parchment well seeing as that arrow dynamics went out of business and no company in experience makes rides with track that can replace its track
Open cars (where your legs dangle underneath) with lap bars would really transform this ride. Bonus: you could probably lower the height restriction. Vampire at Chessington has them, and even a 5 year old can ride (and love it!)
I have to ride this because in 1985 at Houstons Six Flags Astroworld this type of ride was my first rollercoaster in XLR8..There not many of theese left
I used to agree with this being somewhat shaky and boring, but the VR improved it, and it is much more smooth now for some reason, it is in my top 10 of the park.
+Coasterstudios Kyle this review got me thinking. How about doing a list of best themed coasters. The criteria can be how well the coaster is named and how it matches with the actions of the coaster, the color scheme, and how distinct or unique the name and theme are. (There are now countless Goliath, Batman, and Supermans, butonly one Kingda Ka, Gemini or Rougoru)
If you could have an option to ride with VR or no VR then that would make iron dragon a great ride. Because when there is VR you won't even see the drops!
Funny story about this ride! I'm from Kansas City, and first time I visited Cedar Point, I was 5! At the time, I had never seen or heard of a roller coaster with the track above it! So when my mom told me "It doesn't go upsidedown or anything!" I took one look at it... "It looks like it's ONLY upsidedown!!" I didn't end up riding it until I was 20, and that was after riding every other ride there so it was boring for me... But it made my mom barf! Lol
BTW suspended coasters are way better if you get a lot of heavy people on it. Ninja at SFMM can vary a ton depending on how heavy it's passengers are. Not sure if it's that way with Iron Dragon or not though.
I waited forever in line for such a sucky ride!! The Bat crushes this coaster. I really like the Bat!! I'm thinking they were about to put the VR on it!! I don't think it's going to help!!
The most memorable thing about this ride for me was that my friend ripped a massive fart on the first lift hill and everyone on the train could still smell it on the second lift hill. It smelled f’ing awful but was somehow not quite as awful as the coaster.
This ride is kind of lame for me, but it has nice scenery. It's a really good first ride though. This is what got me into coasters. I often skip it nowadays just because there are better coasters at cp.
Iron dragon has got to be the most boring coaster I've ever ridden. Well that and the cedar creek mine ride. Atleast both of those rides are visually appealing to me. Btw when do you think you could do a review of Adventure Express?
If he went to Canada it would probably be for CW because of leviathan (hate how overrated it is) and behemoth, and maybe for vortex and mine buster, but he probably won't go
well, Leviathan and behemoth are both hypers, not very special, but in six flags La Ronde there is the world's largest double track wooden coaster ''Le Monstre'', so I think it's worth it
This hurts..... I love this ride. There’s also two types of people. One who pees their pants on large coasters (AKA ME) and people who like to feel like they’re dying. Idk XD
When I went to cedar point I ride iron dragon and I got off and it broke down. Later I tried to go on again and I was about to get in and I broke down. Then I tried one more time and it broke down when I was waiting
I've been on the Anaconda many times, and this 0 times, but judging this one's looks, I think Anaconda is going to be the better coaster. Plus, I actually enjoyed the Anaconda at KD. It's in my All-Time Top Ten, actually! Rating: 8/10 I honestly think it's an UNDERRATED COASTER.
+Rocky Tuck I think Anaconda is better but Taylor would think Iron Dragon is better because he hates Anaconda. Even though they are by the same manufacturer, they are very different from each other and therefore hard to compare.
To be honest, though this ride is super tame compared to anaconda, I'd say its more enjoyable, its fun, not so much thrilling, where as anaconda just hurts
