Years ago I played in a D&D game that involved an underground blood lake. After defeating the eldritch horror within we reopened it as a vacation resort for vampires

The Quiet Rapture is a pretty terrifying concept. Imagine you wake up, only to find that most natural celestial objects are gone and you’re pretty much floating in a black void. It’s that quick.

"All rumours that these ships are used as literal execution devices have been proven false" sounding a lot like a "Your honor, I have investigated myself and found that I am innocent" moment

I saw an interesting comment saying that when you take a picture of the giant eye, since that creature has been at such a low depth its whole life, you effectively flashbang it.

I like that this update really makes it explicit that this isn't just called a "blood ocean", it's literally an ocean of human blood. I think we know now where everyone else went! *blender noises*

I hate that mark missed this- when you go through the really tight, secret hallway that connects the first main area to the second, you can take a picture and itll show a man made hallway, made out of the same materials as the wall that you take a picture of before you go to the hallway. HUGE SHOUTOUT TO THE EDITORS!! It’s the little things like the “you are here” marker that make the video even that much better. Also the neat little submarine cutscenes.

If I'm not wrong, the jumpscare at the 'end' of the game is not triggered by going to any specific spot. It's triggered by how many photos you've taken of the important areas. You can explore in any order and you will always die on the way to the last photo.

It’s a creepy thought, being deep beneath an ocean of blood, a place that would give off such a bad smell, a place that has so much thickness, it has pretty much 0 transparency to the human eyes, deep beneath in a mechanical tomb surrounded by blood that comes from the same species as you.

The fact that he did the first run perfectly without hitting a wall is crazy

Mark: this is not a major update, except it is. For a game that's surprisingly popular, except it's not surprising. Good mark, good. Never let them know your next move

The horrifying part of SCP 354 is that there are no records of the exploratory mission outside of the logs. The O-5 didn't ok it, the site director didn't ok it. The people the logs say went in have zero memory of going in. They think the SCP itself created the log to scare them away from sending people into it.

I'm surprised there aren't more sunken subs littering the ocean floor in the open areas. Unless that alien fish prefers to corner its prey in tight corners, which is rather unsettling.

This just proves that Mark is willing to face even the ocean if there's *LORE* involved

Apparently, according to my friend, based in the scales and the eye, the creature is more of an herbivore than a carnivore. And due to the fact that it lived in the dark its whole life before you effectively flashbanged it, it was basically just: “Oh, what’s this moving thing? It doesn’t look like something I can ea- OH MOTHER FUCKE-“ Edit : The creature that kills you at the end and the creature’s eye you took a picture of are two different creatures from what I’ve read.

Choosing Lixian as an editor was probably one of the best career moves Mark has ever made.

Every single time Mark says "lore", I keep getting reminded of that one time in Surgeon Simulator with Mark crawling through vents like a madman, muttering about the lore.

Bruh when he found "SM8" i was genuinely surprised right there with him. Environmental storytelling is so simple but so effective.

I just realised that if the ocean is real human blood, then the fact that it's red means there is oxygen and iron, so if that could be extracted then they've just found a literal ocean of resources

I love how Lixian put mark's face on his current coordinates for us to know where he is

I really like the "ghost light of dead stars" thing. Like the stars aren't there. But they're light years away so you won't "see" them disappear until their light stops reaching you years from now. If this happened to us right now, we wouldn't see any star besides our sun disappear for over 4 years.

If you say LORE three times, you will hear a strange sound coming from your closet, if you listen closely it will sound as if a man is saying "that's just a theory"

Fun fact: The entire ocean is 3D modeled, meaning you can take a picture of a point from multiple angles, getting different pictures of the same object, it isn't just pre-set pictures you'd get at specific points of the ocean, also the monster following you is actually just a PNG of it's eye following your submarine!

Mark kept answering his own questions in the opening. Gotta respect that.

7:58 I just realized something, it says here that prisoners are "undergoing *conviction* realization" and the character you're playing as is a convict, which makes your character definitely from Eden station and is undergoing the process to earn his freedom.

Exactly one hour after Mark has dropped the Iron Lung trailer, this video has 4.2 million views. Let's see how many of us are watching and rewatching this now :D

Next installment of "...with Markiplier" definitely needs to be ocean related. So much lore.

22:34 that achievement if for photographing the upper right anomaly. The game ends and the jumpscare plays when you attempt to photograph your 9th node, whatever node that may be (you can never photograph more than 8 anomalies), and the upper right is *usually* last, especially on the first playthrough. Hence, "You've Played this Before" you know about the jumpscare, and wanted to know what the "last" photograph was. Also, I think that sound is the sound of something breathing...

Its crazy how its been LESS THAN 1.5 YRS and mark is finishing up on editing the fucking MOVIE for this. Im so excited for the next teaser/trailer.

Interesting thing. In last vid Mark mentioned something like "all people on earth wouldn't be enough to fill this ocean with blood". After that I got interested and made some calculations. I don't have any data on in-game ocean of blood on this moon, so I used Pacific Ocean on Earth instead. So, to fill Pacific Ocean with blood, if it's drained somehow, you'd need to exsanguinate approximately 1.34*10^18 adult human beings. Its like, 1.34 billions of billions. And it's 168.686.463 times earth population. Then I was bored and calculated how it'd affect our Moon's trajectory relative to earth, since blood is a bit heavier than water, but its not that impressive - moon would get just 0.0009% closer. Edit: obviously, ocean in-game is, probably, much smaller than Pacific, since it's located on some moon and moons tend to be smaller than planets. It's just that this theme caught my interest. Someone call me if we'll get information on this ocean's volume, and I'll adjust numbers to get proper data applicable for this particular ocean Edit again: I've been trying to answer your questions and making more calculations under this comment, but there's too many of you, people. You're on your own now. Look for formulas in answers to this comment.

As a writer, I really appreciate Mark being able to draw comparisons between this and SCP while *emphasizing* that they are distinct and unique stories. Too many people just say, “so it’s just [similar thing].”

What makes it worse is when you know it’s actual human blood and then you start thinking about temperature… is it warm like fresh blood right out of the vein? Or is it cold and thick and super viscous?

The way that the creature looks directly into the camera suggests to me that whatever it is must be highly intelligent and aware of you and what you're doing. I feel like it might be some kind of Lovecraftian cosmic entity that may be responsible for the Quiet Rapture.

The jumpscare is based off of how many pictures you take, so you can actually find all the POIs without dying

so glad he found the SM8, was worried he would miss it before the update, there was a "Humming Monolith" in the same spot, similar to what Mark found in the very top right of the map this playthrough, but it also made an exclusive sound. additionally, the eye jumpscare would follow you until you use your camera, and the beast that gets you at the end, its file name is "frog"

This is like crazy game design. It manages to be immersive while having the bare minimum of gameplay. There are only a few buttons and a map and the game managed to make an entire experience.

This horror game is amazing. They should totally make a movie about it.

I love the informality which carries the database entry of the SM-8. “If they send you down in the Iron Lung then they don’t give a fuck if you come back or if the sub comes back because it’s a pile of trash and you’re a piece of shit. But maybe you have a chance.” It’s awesome, makes it feel so much cooler, so much more personal. We always root for the people who don’t carry themselves with formality.

Plot for Iron Lung : There are 2 Remaining Factions in The Universe after The Quiet Rapture happened. You are playing as a Captured Member of Eden, The Remains of an Old Martian Colony established before The Rapture. You are forced by The Coalition of Iron (C.O.I) to do research on Moon At-5 or die. The Protagonist chooses this and writes the letter on the floor of the submarine as a way to vent his frustrations and how if he's going to go out, he might aswell go out on his own terms. In The Depths of The Unknown Ocean instead of The Vast Emptiness of Space. The Coalition actually sent a Research Vessel down there before The Player but it crashed and they're now just scrapping everything together to try to make sense of This Blood Ocean Anomaly. It is also confirmed that The Blood seems to be of Human Origin. The Game Assets also suggest that there was some kind of ancient cult like civilization once inside The Blood Ocean. There are remains of buildings/temples, weird monoliths, wormholes, and giant bones. It was a theory that this specific civilization casted a ritual that made it so that every star, habitable planet, and (presumably) everyone on it vanishes from existence. Also a point of note is that NO ONE watched or found out about The Quiet Rapture before many days after it supposedly happened. First, it was Radio Silence before a few ships was sent to investigate to find the remains of an empty void. There's also hidden secret assets in The Game which is either a leak for The Dev's Newest Unrelated Game or a Sequel/Prequel to expand The Universe of Iron Lung (though that is highly unlikely)

Oh my god I assumed the "blood oceans" were just oceans highly concentrated with iron-oxides, like an ocean-wide version of the "red beaches" that occur irl. I didn't expect them to be straight up human blood

If you know how the game usually goes, seeing Mark just whipping a 180 to take a picture with 0 regard for his life makes this even more tense

Btw for those who don't know 1:05 This is a real river, and it looks like this today It's called the Reka Daldykan River in Russia It turned red due to mercury mining upstream There were many cases of this in Russia's past but this being the largest example of it happening, as you can even see it from space Also if you want to see some creepy shit that's very similar look up Antarctica's Blood waterfall

It's insane to me how one can be so good at storytelling that they can make a game where the only thing you ever see is the inside of a deep sea submarine and it's still somehow this good. I hope this game isn't forgotten.

I am THRILLED that Mark is creating a movie out of this! The concept is so unique, I’m obsessed! I love a good story with well thought out lore, it gives me chills!

It forever kills me that my team was making an alien-world ocean diving game set in an iron lung, then this came out 3 months later. That project is on indefinite hold.

So, no one's gonna talk about the Sub in the little animated interludes being called 'The Unsinkable II'? An excellent piece of detail and a really cool easter egg to 'In Space', Mark and Lixian!

I love how Mark just casually speaks about relatively deep SCP lore like it's a regular Wednesday for everyone watching. Mostly because it is for most of us.

12:02 I hope the movie is just an hour and a half of this with occasional cuts to Mark freaking out

14:14 I actually did try to ram it on my first play through. It keeps swimming ahead of you, so your only solution is to either photograph it or accept that you can't have a sensor reading in that direction.

Considering if all stars disappeared right now, we would still see them in the sky for millions upon millions of years, since light would have to travel all that way to our eyes until we can register they’re gone, it’s more likely that everyone not on a planet at the time of the Quiet Rapture were the ones raptured and not the other way round. By what, or for what reason, is the question.

Mark being an SCP nerd is the best thing. Like imagine a conversation and then he just drops random SCPs on us.

i think it's more terrifying realizing that 1. all habitable planets and stars just suddenly disappeared and 2. its an ocean of HUMAN blood

Iron lung is so terrifying without using any jumpscares. Such a nice change of pace

the editing is so nice and welcoming. the "you are here" and the simple highlighting of text when a change of zoom happens so it's easier to follow along between cuts. it's so nice and very appreciated

The part that doesn't add up is that the blood oceans apparently consist of human blood, and yet there's clearly some form of life present within them, which implies that the oceans have existed for quite some time.

I needed my daily dose of LORE from Markiplier. So this is nice! Better yet, it’s IRON LUNG!

I feel like people don’t talk about how terrifying the idea of the quiet rapture is, literal dying universe no stars left, light something that’s normally always constant is now a limited resource and will eventually fade completely. And the thought of whole planets and civilizations disappearing with no trace, nothing left in the universe besides a ship running on continuously less and less fuel to call home

I love the mention of the "ghostlight," from the dead stars. It takes YEARS for the light from stars to get to us here on earth, save for the sun (which takes 8ish minutes) bare minimum, it takes 4 years from the next closest. So even with the stars vanished, the light would still be traveling for some time. So as the decades went on, the light would be slowly and gradually disappear as the last flashes of light from each star made its way to the furthest people. Almost more poetically grim than just sudden darkness.

The lore makes this game 10x scarier, as it seems there truly is no hope left.

I honestly would love it if Netflix did a horror anthology series based on SCP files. I'd be in and binging all the episodes immediately.

What really fascinates me about this game is just how interesting this world is for just how little we get of it. Even more intriguing is that (from what I've heard), the Creator said that all the lore he has for this universe is present in this game, he hasn't (or hadn't) really thought much beyond that. So for what little we get, there's just so much.

Lixian can never leave the channel. He’s TOO good to not be the editor. He’s incredibly good at making, not only Mark’s video, but his own work enjoyable. Most editors can just edit, take best moments or whatever, but Lixian goes above and beyond.

I love that the ship Mark rides is called the Unsinkable 2, referencing the space station from In Space With Markiplier.

There is a mod that opens the window so you can continuously see what is going on outside. It's really interesting what you find in the depths!

If anyone is interested, I highly recommend looking at anything about behind the scenes of the game. It's really interesting. The whole map is a rendered 3d area, and *you* never actually move, you're in a stationary cell. What's moving is a camera that you're controlling. It's really neat and I highly recommend checking it out! Edit: grammar, I was really confused at first, I'm usually really good about catching that stuff before posting. But thanks Matimele for pointing it out!

for some reason when mark said “that’s a skellington” (25:04) I immediately imagined like a James Bond situation. Like- “That’s right, the names Skellington. Jack Skellington.” Or something ._.

My theory is that those spaceships (c.o.i and eden) are the ones who disappeared and are now stranded in an empty void with some blood moons around. The Earth and the Mars are probably sitting there, thinking "where did our spaceships go?". That's the most optimistic you can be in that situation.

I love the idea that everyone on these stations missed the end of the world and they have been left forgotten to find some way of surviving the now, empty universe

I just thought about it and what about the possibility that the Quiet Rapture wasn’t the disappearance of planets and stars. They’re all normal and present, however all of the *spacecraft and space stations* were the ones who disappeared into some alternate reality due to a space anomaly. What’s more plausible, every habitable planet and star in the universe magically disappearing with nothing left behind to even hint at an energy source capable of doing so? Or all spacecraft and orbital stations vanishing due to an unforeseeable anomalous event

I really like the expansion on the lore in this game. I gotta admit, I got chills when Mark found the wreck of the SM-8
