Lugosi was a magnificent Actor who was typecasted. He was able to play Drama, Romance, Horror, Comedy and any role he was offered. Hollywood was to hard on him and if they would have given him much more work, he would have not have been so desparate in his last years, making pictures that were beneath his stature of acting. He will always remain my all time favorite Actor and Dracula my all time favorite Movie. RIP Mr. Lugosi!! You were, still are & always will be admired around the World.

What makes this even more ironic is that, in Plan 9 from outer space, the scenes in which the real Bela appears was never even intended for the film. It's interesting how Ed Wood made it work in a sort of surreal, bizarre way. I really wish Bela did live another year or two to have made that film in its entirety.
It's really too bad Lugosi wasn't given more non-horror roles. He really was a good actor, but he wasn't given enough opportunities to demonstrate his versatility on screen. Anyway, thanks for posting this!

Bela wasn't given "enough opportunities" in Hollywood, 'Troy', because of two reasons- his thick Hungarian accent, and his reputation as "Dracula"; he was typecast as an "evil" or "horror" figure in films for the rest of his life because of the "Count", and he knew it...

I bet you anything that Ed Wood got the idea to get the double in Plan 9 from this scene. He was a Bella fan so he must have watched this film many times and thought back to this.
