I feel like we all personally know someone who got pregnant after believing they were “infertile”!!!!!!!!

True story: have a friend who was told she "probably" wouldn't get pregnant. They went to Ukraine (years ago) and adopted 18 month old twins. Was home 2 weeks, got sick...found out she was pregnant...with TWINS!! Newly married and 4 babies under the age of 2 within the first 2 yrs of marriage! 😯

I was diagnosed as infertile by 3 different drs (because I just couldn’t believe it and kept looking for a new opinion). I finally accepted it and let it fully sink in… and then suddenly got pregnant a few years into my marriage. It was an incredibly difficult pregnancy that my body didn’t want to accept, but me and baby both made it out safe and sound 🥰 Life is just a lot of guessing and sometimes a few of those guesses are wrong 😅🤣

Iirc, infertile mostly means pregnancy is highly unlikely, rather than absolutely impossible. If you still have the necessary organs and are having sex, it's at least theoretically possible.

I miscarried when I was 25 and the horrendous ER doctor (who wouldn't send me to L&D) told me that something in me must be damaged and that I won't be able to have any pregnancies to full term. I believed that sh*t for 8 YEARS, until I had a long conversation with my obgyn's nurse who straightened me out. She was SO angry for me. I never did get pregnant, and now my health has declined to the point that I'm too high risk to chance it. I feel like these lies & myths steal so much time from people who want kids, and from those who didn't but ended up pregnant anyway. We need better reproductive education!!!

Because they either do not understand how it works, don't care or "it's fine to skip one time, nothing will happen" and then it happens they get pregnant or if it didn't, they try second time, third and so on, because they think it work ifnthey use it only sometimes, because they did nit get pregnant when they haven't used it in the past.
@jeddybear5909
@jeddybear5909 Год назад
The pill specifically is very time constrained as well, so if you use it imperfectly (take it a few hours earlier or later than usual) it has a lower chance of working. We are only human, mistakes happen, time slips, just use extra contraception (condoms etc) if you think you might not have perfectly used your original contraceptive. And remember, oral BC isn't working completely from the get go, it may need a few months to activate for whatever you're using it for.
@harringt100
@harringt100 Год назад
It doesn't specify what type of birth control she is using. "Birth control" is not limited to hormonal birth control. Like, she could be using condoms, a diaphragm, cervical cap, spermicide (or even withdrawal, I guess) but foregoing them sometimes. Either because she knows from paying attention to her cycle that she's not fertile that day (the right way to do it, but that doesn't seem like the implication here) or because she just assumes her chances of pregnancy in general are low and occasionally taking chances isn't a big deal.
@shadesofjade
@shadesofjade Год назад
Probably because she thinks that with such an erratic cycle “I must be unable to get pregnant!” And thus, she becomes less careful about b/c. Because there’s a lot of misinformation about pregnancy and the like, unless you really deep dive into everything.

Lol, what?? I have very irregular periods (they come anywhere between 32 and 76 days apart, they're free spirits!) and I was not expecting trouble when trying to conceive. If you have sex two or three times a week, eventually you'll get the timing right! I charted my temperature for the years between trying to conceive my first until after my husband got snipped after my last, because it gave some idea of what was going on. One of the ultrasound technicians was panicking about the baby being way too small for the age calculated by the last period, but I wasn't worried, "no, I ovulated on this day, it's fine" and the other tech was all "irregular periods, it's fine". When I took a break from tracking for a few months and conceived my middle child, I was DELIGHTED to learn that instead of 6 weeks along, I was 10 weeks! That's a whole month less of puking! The blessed child didn't trigger any morning sickness until week 8 or 9, unlike her siblings. Temperature tracking was aggravating for my non detail oriented mind, but was helpful for both conceiving and prevention. (After going off hormonal birth control, which regulated my periods but messed with me in many other ways, I was NOT going back. I didn't realize how bad it was until I stopped.)

Can you please do a video about more information on the timing of taking a pregnancy test? There is so much different information you get on the at home pregnancy tests (you can take the day you miss a period) vs nurses and doctors saying “Yeah that might be too early and you might not know until 3 weeks after your missed period”. What gives on the different information? This is coming from someone who is potentially 5 weeks pregnant, keeps getting negative at home tests, but has a lot of pregnancy symptoms, and the dr wants to wait another week to do a blood test

People always say "The chanses of getting pregnant". As a woman despising the risk of ever getting pregnant (I have no partners, have never had and dont want to have any) so I wont have that problem but I feel like people always refering to it as a chanse rather than a risk is just forcing it as something good and something we as women should want.

My periods are so irregular and I don’t know why. Birth control regulated them but I stopped taking it because it made more anxious and depressed. But I’ll go months without a period (but I think I’m still ovulating?) then randomly get it. Or I’ll be consistent for like 4-5 months then skip 2, then have it for 2, then skip 3 etc.

i hate that this excuse is so common. then they’re shocked when they pregnant!! like girl!! unless a medical professional told you that piece of information you should always assume you can get pregnant just like everyone else !! edit: by excuse i mean an excuse to not use birth control consistently Another edit: i know some people still get pregnant even though a doctor tells them they can’t. i was trying to say that the reasoning behind not using birth control is more understandable if a doctor told you personally that you are unable to conceive. i don’t blame those who believed doctors when they were told this and ended up pregnant anyways. I tried to exclude them from the conversation.

My sentiments exactly. That's how my brother's gf got pregnant. They thought she might have PCOS or Endometriosis b/c of her inconsistent periods, which is why I'm guessing they might have been reckless with birth control in the past. She stopped vaping and they think that contributed to her irregular periods. So instead of getting an actual diagnosis, they just assumed she might not be able to get pregnant. Also had a young friend who was told she wouldn't be able to have kids. Guess who got pregnant shortly after her 21st birthday??

I was told by a doctor that I was most likely infertile but they would need to do a fertility test to confirm that they said would be expensive and since I wasn’t trying to get pregnant they didn’t recommend it. I still use birth control pills that I always take every day and I don’t have a cycle (due to the doctor prescribing them to take continuously b/c of endometriosis) and I’m on methotrexate which greatly reduces the chance of pregnancy and is not recommended to get pregnant on and I still sometimes use condoms to. Even though I am probably infertile I still want to be extra safe.

My hormones are nuts and they really affect who I am and what kind of things I’m doing at different points in a cycle. If it’s a longer cycle the crazier I get and the more my body acts like it’s pregnant and I have crazy high LH for like weeks at a time if it goes past 35 days. Then I ovulated this cycle and proceeded to bleed lightly for five days straight. I’m like…. Okayyyy that’s weird and discouraging for my chances of getting pregnant from this cycle. I think a cyst burst during ovulation and it hurt pretty bad. Which from what I’ve read and heard means it’s highly unlikely there was an egg. And idk how the bleeding affects things either.

Yes. When using hormonal birth control consistently, you don't actually ovulate, even if you bleed once a month. If you take it inconsistently, the body will try to follow the normal cycle and keep getting interrupted by random spikes of the hormonal birth control. That will make it very inconsistent.

Inconsistent birth control usage sounds like a terrible idea for both the cycle regulation effect and the birth control effect. .-. I'd actually rather not take anything than taking my BC only once in a while. That way I could still predict my irregular period a few days before it happens (I know my body well enough for that.)
