Just a few things. The heated/cooled sport seats are upgrades over the Recaros. Recaros came standard and the sport seats were optional. The oil filter "issue" was solved in the early run of the 17 model year. Ford switched to a canister style system to alleviate that problem. The issue stemmed from engine harmonics vibrating the spin on filters off the mount if they weren't torqued to 18-20 lbft. Ford sent owners of the earlier cars the appropriate filter wrench for their cars which needed simply a torque wrench to install the filter correctly. You can install the newer canister style housing on the earlier cars if you wish. Ford made upgrade kits to do it that are still available. The engine issues. It's a hand built "track" engine in a street car. They were never meant to be a jump in and rev to the moon engine. They simply won't last if treated that way. They have to be completely warmed up to temp before putting any RPMs on them. Can't count the number of times I've seen a YTber or idiot at a car meet let the engine sit till cold then jump in and rev them to the moon. That's not great for an assembly line engine, never mind the Voodoos. And people wonder why they let go. Oil consumption, see what I just wrote. Not saying there weren't issues with some of them, of course there were. Some were built on Friday. You can say the same for just about any vehicle. There are crappy ones. Is what it is. You don't buy a GT350 and treat it like a GT. It's not a Coyote. The reason the Voodoo isn't really the best platform for boost is the compression. The Voodoo is 12:1 from the factory. 12:1 isn't a ratio anyone would pick for boost in a street motor. It'll work, but YMMV. The Voodoo engine itself is one of the big reasons the GT350 was laid to rest. And not because of issues with it's performance or reliability. The Voodoo engine couldn't be certified overseas due to emissions. The Coyote has been certified for years. The Mustang platform is a "world" platform and it made sense for Ford to discontinue the engine altogether and stick with the Coyote. I don't believe the new GT500 can be sold "On the lot" at a dealer overseas for the same reason. The GT500 engine is a Voodoo based engine but with the traditional cross-plane crank. If treated properly the GT350 is as reliable as any other vehicle really. If you buy or own one, you just need to treat it a little differently in those first 10 minutes. Once it's warmed up, it's show time. Have at it. They're not street brawlers. My 705rwhp 13 GT500 was a street brawler. If you want a street brawler, like you mentioned, look elsewhere. If you want a car that will out handle most everything on the street and cars that cost 2-3x more as well, with brakes that will suck your eyeballs out, with a sound that you can't find anywhere else but from a GT350, then it's your car. If you want a fancy Coyote with bits and pieces from the GT350 and GT500, and you like the looks and perceived "reliability" of the Mach, then that's your car. You can't lose with either really. You just have to know that the Shelby has some quirks you must accept in order to be happy with it long term. You don't have those same quirks with the Mach but in the end, it's a Mach. Not a Shelby. Depends on your motivations. :)
@sariahreigns3666
@sariahreigns3666 2 года назад
what do you mean Perceived "reliability" Its been proven coyotes are EXTREMELY strong engines. World record manual transmission car is a Coyote mustang. That being said the voodoo is not a different engine its still a coyote. It has a flat plane crank. the issues i know of are the rod bearings were too small and spun the bearings. You cant sell a street car as a street car and claim oh its a race car you have to warm it up ect. Then dont sell it as a street car. That out the way, Im so sad that they axed the motor. Its one of the coolest sounding motors ever.

I`ll preface my comment with saying, I am not a Ford guy...at all. I owned one once for about 4 months. A 2000 F150 4x4 with the 4.7 Triton V8 brand new. Starter went at 800 kms. Rear main seal had to be replaced at 2700 kms and again at 12,000 kms. It was in the shop more than on the road. That said, the Voodoo platform has too many issues. If I had to choose between the new Mach 1 and the GT350, I would go with the reliability of the Mach1 with the 6 speed Tremec. (I currently own a 2021 Challenger 392 T/A 6 speed Tremec...and pulled an 11.94 with it at the track, bone stock. If you know how to power shift well, having a manual is not necessarily a disadvantage even against today`s auto transmissions). This all said, I do love the exhaust note of the 350 and a Shelby is a Shelby. They are special cars.

I’ve heard of people having issues with their voodoo motors, but I’ve honestly had nothing happen to me. I even daily drove mine for a year and a half when I bought the car. Mine’s a Gen 1 also. They’re solid motors, you just have to check the oil, let it warm up before you go high rpm, and watch the oil pressure. It’s worked well for me so far at almost 40k miles. I’ve also seen several of them go boosted, and love it. Just keep in mind the high compression and use the right fuel. Trying to run 93 octane above low boost probably isn’t the best idea.

I told a lot of people to get the 350 while It dropped. I forget when it dropped, but I remember seeing around 2018 the GT350's drop to sub 40k prices for cars with 20k miles or less... If you would have bought one, even a 2016, it would probably gain 10-20k in value since then. even if you drove it to 50k miles or more. Just now I looked and found some 2016 350's w/ 10k miles for 60k, 2016 350 with 20k miles for 53k.... I honestly think if you get a good car, the 350's will only increase in price... and then there's the curb appeal, it's a shelby... park it next to an 18 mustang, and people will usually look at the shelby 9/10 . That being said, the 18-23 5.0 are great.... boosted can make 900-1000 hp pretty easily, Now ... if only they would include forged rods in the S650... really stupid how they don't put forged rods in the gt500 too, it's 1-2k for essentially 1000hp capable engines and safe engines from the factory.

A lot of guys were racing the 2016’s without the track package and blowing the engines. Which is why they made track packs standard 2017 and up. Also, if you change the oil, you MUST torque the filter to 16-18 ft lbs. Don’t blame Ford for these guys not following simple instructions. As for my GT350, the only oil I lose is from wiping off the dipstick. Never loses oil and drives like a gem and I drive her hard. Not for sale but really get annoyed with the bad publicity these cars get.

What I find interesting that no one talks about, is the fact that the stock MANUAL Mach 1 on the dyno makes 460 to the wheel, while rated at 480 hp by Ford. Also, the stock GT350 makes about 460 to the wheels while Ford says it makes 526 hp... kind of interesting. Auto Mach 1 makes 410 on dyno. Fact check me if you dont believe it. Ford may just be trying to protect the Shelby name, and replacing voodoo with a non-problematic motor.

Ford really knows how to make a car!!! I like how after each drive you can pop your trunk and and take out a couple quarts to add to the engine oil as its already burned that amount. And like you said knowing your driving around a ticking time bomb as the vodoo engine is very prone to failure. Also I love that ford had a lighter less robust tremec transmission that can handle way less hp is so reassuring. Oh also the transmission over heats often!!! Ford has done it once again and made such a beautiful car with the worst possible drivetrain. Also there was a post above that stated the voodoo engine “was a hand built track engine ” as a excuse to the many issues they have. I call bull crap, look at a c5 z06 LS6. That was a track built engine and they have zero issues. Its just very rare can ford put out a good product any more plain and simple. Thank you Ford!!

Owner comment the only voodoo 5.2 that had filter issues was the 2016 build after 2016 the filter was converted to the internal cartridge just like gt500 oil filter. The other tip always let the engine warm to operating temperature oil must be 180 F or don't rev it wait be patient. The voodoo engine is designed loose on tolerance let it warm up tolerance come into spec at operating temp

If you are going to buy a gt350 used you need to make sure the last owner was always checking the oil. They are known for burning up esp the early cars and they hold 10 quarts. Can’t run low and you are also supposed to keep the revs low until the shell really warms up to like 180. There’s stories of them blowing up. The regular gt Coyote is more reliable overall esp the gen 3

The GT350 is the more special car - period. You get the more desirable exotic Voodoo engine, and that's what it's all about. After that, you talk about a Tremec manual trans, as God himself intended. Leave it stock. Maybe some exhaust to your seasoning, but restrain yourself. Get the good rear diff set. And then track it!

Mach 1 is more reliable and has a full warranty. Paying 60k+ for a GT350 with limited or no warranty and 20k+ miles is risky. The one thing arguably better on a GT350 is its exotic engine sound. There’s a class action lawsuit against Ford from GT350 owners because the car overheats when on track and many engines have blown up. Also, think about value. There will be a smaller amount of Mach 1’s than GT350’s. Mach 1 is a 3 year production car at most with small numbers actually made due to the chip shortage. The Mach 1 will be more rare in the future than the Shelby. Both great cars but I would put my money on the new Mach 1. Zzzz

Bearings are not an issue. Maybe in the first run of GT350s? But there is no evidence to support that. Exceptions versus the majority. Oil filters backing out was only a problem in the 2016 model. And only if you didn’t torque it properly. These cars love boost. You might not be able to pump as much pressure through these engines as the coyote, but it doesn’t mean that these cars can’t handle boost. Look at the VMP Odin super chargers.
