I've been doing amigurumi for about a year (about 5 years crochet experience). My biggest problem is attaching body parts. I struggle with that every time. My sewing area is so littered with tiny body parts that it could be the graveyard for a serial killer. When I look at yours, or other crocheters', finished work, the seams between body parts are so neat and look almost as if you crocheted it in one piece. I have a whole grocery bag of Harry Potters whose heads flop back and forth. But...I'm determined to do this well, so I'll just keep on watching videos and maybe one day, I'll have a professional look to my stuffed toys. Thanks for your videos.

My experience with ami has been difficult. I adore miniature things and have several little shadow boxes with tiny miniatures I've collected over the years so i fell in love with little amis but have had such a hard time with them. To clarify, i'm not trying to crochet those tenny tiny creations. I was trying things that were around 5 inches tall. I decided that it just wasn't bringing me joy but crochet definitely brings me joy so i had to find a way to resolve this issue. Now i'm trying bigger toys in the hopes that i will be more successful if i'm not trying to make something that only 5 inches tall 🙂 i'm looking for toys that are under 12 inches as i don't want really big ones. I was just SO frustrated with those little body parts but i am determined to keep trying until i find what works for me.
@EliseRoseCrochet
@EliseRoseCrochet 2 года назад
I can totally feel your frustration!! Five inches is still pretty small, I would say! Have you tried any of the Animal Friends of Pica Pau patterns? I have found them to be a wonderful introduction to amigurumi especially for those who already know how to crochet! Keep trying and experimenting!! Eventually it will all click and you'll be happily crocheting amigurumi!! ❤️❤️❤️

It always surprises me when people talk about bigger dolls being so much more challenging. I personally can't understand why people think making smaller things is easier, and I love making bigger dolls. It's easier to sew limbs on, they're so much more huggable, and the faces are (theoretically, depending on one's methods,) easier. Plus, while yeah, they're going to take longer because of bigger limbs, head, and torso, it's also easier to crochet because you're not working in a round that's only, say, six stitches around. I've got several 3 foot tall dolls I'm working on, and a Raggedy Anne doll I'll go back to eventually that's probably five feet.
@EliseRoseCrochet
@EliseRoseCrochet 2 года назад
Teeny tiny is the hardest I think, but the patience you need for those big projects is something I struggle with!! Your dolls sound amazing!! ❤️❤️❤️

I started with blankets mainly, but then came across crocheting animals and fell in love. Only one that was hard for me to make was the llama no drama, but it was so worth it. It’s my favorite one I’ve made, and everyone was fighting over it, they all wanted to keep it, lol. I said no it’s mine haha. I’m into detail designs which is alittle more focused but not hard, just alittle more time to make. And tight tension is needed, or a very small hook I’ve learned over the years.

Great video! I love you're videos and your channel. Magic rings are a real pain for me because my thumb on my right hand is a lot smaller than it should be and when I crochet or knit I have to do things I little bit differently than how I usually see people crochet and knit (like when I crochet I find it more comfortable to tension my yarn by holding it in between my ring finger and pinky) But I learned a cool crochet hack! Basically you can chain two and you just work your crochets in the second chain from the hook. I also work my yarn tail in the first row to close the hole. I don't know if anyone mentioned this before but I thought I should share this cool magic ring hack.

Very interesting video. I really enjoyed it. No hobby lobby in Canada. Colours were really great. I was using just regular four weight yarn as that’s all I had. I’ve got more types now and I find some are really pretty but no for toys. A slick surfaced yarn is great for clothes but not for a toy structure. ( you can make balls with them though) everyday non-pilling 3weights are good for me with tons of colours. Still use 4weights for bigger dolls, like my clown. I love the book amigurumi circus. Such great projects. So colourful. Thanks for the update.

I keep thinking that I’ve crocheted the snouts too large, but when I look at your instruction pages, I believe that they are close to how you made yours. I am just hoping I can join them to their faces in a way that is neat and tidy. I want them to look good. That is where my “challenge” is! We all have them, challenges, that is. Like you I struggled with learning the connecting chain to connect to pieces into one (like the frog eyes). My largest was a hippo I gave her movable legs and arms so when she stands she comes to my knee. I haven't added hair to any but I did brush one to create a fuzzy look. Brushing a finished project was scary at first because it felt like I was going to ruin it but it turned out really cute (it was a cat I wanted to be "long hair ").

This is an awesome video! A lot of what you found hard I did also. My biggest challenge so far has been a hippocampus. It was two feet long (maybe a little longer lol) It is s horse on the front and a fish on the back. I could not get the horses neck to come out right (lots of decreasing and increasing) People see them on Raverly for over 200 and I can see why LOL But the girl I made it for (and her mom) love it ! And that is all that counts! Sometimes when I reach a difficult place in an amigrumi, I put it down and walk away and do something else, maybe for even a few days. I find sometimes I read and reread that part of the pattern until my eyes cross and can't get it, but putting it down for a day or more seems to let my brain work it out so when I go back I look at it with "new eyes" and it just falls into place. Thank you for sharing the links, I love your library of creation videos they are so helpful. And thank you for not editing out Pickle ;) I have a year old kitten that I argue with all the time ;)

Hi Elise, I am just loving your videos (still catching up on them all) and you have really inspired me to attempt both knitted and crocheted amigurumi. I have started with the free pattern, the knitted Bunny Softie. I am having a heck of a time seaming those little arms though! Do you have a tutorial on seaming? Or can you recommend a good one, especially for smaller pieces? Thank you for all your inspiration!

In my mouse tutorial you can skip to the part where I share how I join smaller pieces: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-klRYxSikuCs.htmlsi=AoooifHww0PqLVGT 🐭🐭🐭

I knew how to crochet but I only clever made scarves and hats. Super boring to me. I always knew about amigurumi but I was too scared. I got the courage to try out this duck pattern and now I’m addicted

Elise do you have any recommendations for ball winders for yarn?I'm thinking of getting one,but I have no idea what to look for.I saw a few on amazon with good reviews but they are plastic and I wonder how long they would last. Thank you for all your wonderful tutorials.I really enjoy your videos.I find them fun and interesting and always somehow pertinent to something I'm working on.

Thank you!! This is the ball winder I have: amzn.to/3GVXYgw It's actually mostly metal and is really sturdy. I also have this yarn swift for winding hanks of yarn: amzn.to/3UjFxFx Hope that helps!! ❤

I too have trouble with embroidering the snouts on pica pau animals and doing the little feet on the straw animals toys. It makes me feel better to know you had trouble with them too 😳

Lol! I think every single amigurumi pattern presents one challenge or another. That embroidering is the hardest part, am I right??? ❤️❤️❤️

I think of myself as a decent crocheter but I want to be sure I am reading this amigurumi pattern correctly. On a row it will say to 5sc, inc, 2 x 7 sc 13

Hmmm, I'm not sure what 2 x 7 means in the pattern.

I think Amigurumi is hard on your hands, I take frecuent breaks and regarding learning to crochet you can always come on RU-vid and their are plenty of tutorials on how to learn the craft.

I agree, doing single crochet over and over again is hard on those joints. I like switching things up and making different things from time to time! ❤️❤️❤️
