Is Anal Sex Safe? 

During my high school years (1984-1988), sex education was part of the curriculum. These were also the years when AIDS was starting to be on the news. As a gay man, I wholeheartedly believe that those sex education classes were what kept me safe.

Anal sex needs to be talked about in the context of both straight sex and gay sex, and in the straight world, anal sex for both men and women. Gay people do not have the corner on anal sex and we should not feel the least bit embarrassed by the subject.

It is shocking that this is not discussed in medical school or residency - no wonder doctors treat LGBTIQA+ people poorly.

As a nurse, I can say that the anus does create its own lubricant at times during intercourse. That natural lubricant is called mucous. That mucous is created to protect that area of the body from damage due to the friction of intercourse. It is often times white in color. I am not at all claiming to know more than a doctor would. I just thought it would be a good point to share with the audience. This was an excellent and informative video!

We need more people to start speaking up about these kind of things, because not only it helps to educate people, it also helps break the taboo.

17:00 Petroleum jelly is generally NOT recommended for anal sex. (Google it if you doubt the random guy on the internet.) There are two main reasons: first, it can break condoms and damage certain toys, if you're using those. Second, it can trap bacteria, leading to higher rates of infection, especially since it's hard to clean off. Another thing to take into account is that it's messy and can stain sheets. The final consideration is that it's quite viscous. That's much more personal preference, but particularly for beginners, something thinner like water- or silicone--based lube will probably work out better. That all said, it certainly works, but you should be aware of these considerations before choosing to use it.

Most clients describe the feeling of dizziness, disturbances in the visual field, terror, fear of losing control and of having an adverse cardiac event. But a simple technique for breathing is inhalation to the count of 7, held for 4 seconds and expiration for 7 seconds. This technique can actually abort the uptake of adrenaline so that ACTH is not released. Panic attack aborted. This is one of several treatment modalities that I use. This breathing technique promotes relaxation and is similar to the breathing that meditation and mindfulness requires. I just stumbled upon your channel Tyler and I just love the format. DO NOT USE VASELINE with condoms; that is an oil-based lube. Just use silicone-based. You ONLY want to use water-based lube and silicone-based lube with condoms, and frankly water-based lube is so annoying to keep replying and isn't really THAT hard to deal with in terms of clean-up. Even my straight heterosexual friends in relationships that don't use condoms, LOVE silicone-based lubes like Überlube to enhance sex.

My doctors in L.A. have been very knowledgeable regarding gay issues and completely non-judgemental. I go to the UCLA Medical Group, and it goes out of its way to support gay patients and is very gay-friendly. Of course there is a huge gay population here as well.

I don’t have to use lubricants at all . Is it ok as long as it don’t hurt?

One very important part of this topic was not even mentioned at all. It could be a good topic in a future discussion. That would be a little discussion about the penetrative partner relaxing his sex partner by massaging around the anus and gently dilating and relaxing the receptive partners sphincter muscles with his fingers being gentile when inserting them in his partner. That can greatly enhance the experience for both partners. I am gay and versatile as far as anal sex is concerned. I was really too young for it, but the first time, I was 16 and a half. My first sex my partner did this with me, and it was very pleasurable, with no pain at all the very first time I ever had anal sex. My first sex partner was not much older than I was. He did have some good experience with anal sex both giving and receiving. We did it both ways my first time. I'm 65 and I haven't had that many sex partners, but a few of the ones that were the receptive partners were very surprised that they didn't have any pain at all because I always knew how to get them very relaxed and comfortable before penetrating them. I was gentle with them and took my time with them. That is exactly the same thing my first sex partner did for me. They said that they thought it was supposed to hurt at the start. It is never supposed to hurt. That means you are doing it wrong. (Edit: This is a very good video that most young people should see, regardless of their sexuality.)
