The home theater aspect is literally the only reason I want the headset. That one clip during their presentation when the user was watching a movie on a 100 feet screen on top of a mountain at night, that sold it for me. Imagine watching movies on the surface of the moon, or on an empty beach at night with stars in the sky...

Get a Meta Quest 2 or coming 3. Crazy how Bigscreen App has been around since 2016 and no one seems to know. Also Nreal Air (now Xreal) let's you watch movies and is the size of raybans.

@@laartwork Man it’s because it looks pretty low quality. I bought a Quest Pro a couple months ago with that use case in mind, but the displays looks noticeably worse than my MacBook Pro and OLED TV. The Quest Pro also isn’t very high resolution meaning I can see the pixels which gives it a grainy look. It’s overall just a much worse viewing experience than just watching on my other devices. That isn’t the case with Vision Pro - it has dual 4K micro OLED displays which have extremely high pixel density and can hit 5000 nits of brightness (less to your eyes due to the lenses), and fully supports HDR content. It also does this while having zero perceptible latency, so you don’t feel sick after wearing it for long periods of time (that happened with the Quest Pro whenever I used it for more than 30-45 minutes).

$3,500 for a personal computer is standard for Apple. But keep in mind that it comes with two 4K screens (one per eye) too, but of unlimited size. Then it has VR functions and AR too. It even has built-in raytracing speakers, and about a dozen cameras too. Yeah, the price point seems it’s reasonable.

Oh yeah, about the sound. I’ve heard the spatial audio and it’s amazing. You are right about the fact that it can replicate a sub. With that said, one of the guys that tried on a AVP said the dinosaurs at the end was breathing right in his face starring at him. He said he turned his head to the side and the dinosaur was breathing in his ear. That type of precision audio would beat with a theater setup. It can be done just not that experience up close!

I think its heading towards the direction of the future. They’ve announced that it does do SharePlay with those near young, so that’ll give you the communal experience. Thanks for the video! I’ve watched many videos so far but yours made me think of whether or not we’d be able to pair HomePods to the headset. So while still not nearly as good as a nice home theater setup, if you could use two minis or even two full HomePods (or more??) that could be at least an option. To your analogy of those who purchase huge screens likely also purchasing great audio setups, maybe vision pro users would pair with AirPods Max, but I don’t think I’m going to want AirPods Max over the top of this thing. The few headsets I’ve used I even start feeling a bit claustrophobic and warm with earbuds in for whatever reason. So here’s hoping the built in audio is good or we get pairing options!

What’s up brother. I’ll say it’s going to be interesting seeing how it affects home theater or the theater industry in general. Good and bad. My previous house has a dedicated theater and I loved it! I set up all the equipment, speakers in the wall, everything. We are planning to build one in this place. You know those setups can be thousands of dollars, so it does make me say hmmm…..😂. As for theaters, we still go when a good movie comes out. It’s another reason to get out the house. As long as movies continue to hit theaters first, they won’t go anywhere. If Apple and other manufacturers can make this thing smaller and cheaper…..uh oh👀

Great comments! Thanks for sharing. 😁 I think it needs to be ~$1000 or less to really get people to buy. If I buy it right now for my wife and I, it’s $7000 not including tax or extras. That just isn’t in the budget for most people so I think sales will be limited until they can get cost down or de-content it a bit for a cheaper model. Bleeding edge tech is always expensive and this is no different.

I agree with you to a point. But what we have to remember … this is the first iteration. The prices will come down for the next and the next…& when it’s down to the price of the iPhone, and the size and weight improves, and it will… everyone will have one, and it becomes communal. Whether you’re in the same room, or across the world, you can share these experiences. This is a developer unit… so the apps and experiences will be in place for the next edition. So this edition isn’t meant for the masses. But those after, will be. Eventually making your iPhone obsolete. And I know 6 year olds with an iPhone. So it’s just a matter of time.

Just think about this. TV's do take a large amount of space in our living rooms and seem to always be the main focus point, regardless of how you arrange them. Apple vision Pro solves this issue but leaves another issue for us to deal with. Sharing the experience of movie theater with the others. Unless the prices fall significantly (which I guess will be the case) to the price of iPhone and all can simultaneously can share the same movie. Now that can be entirely possible.
@Dma118
@Dma118 Год назад
The communal part doesn’t matter to me and shouldn’t to others. I’m not spending precious time with my friends and family watching tv most of the time. Maybe sports and the occasional something but that’s probably it. And going to the movies is a whole different experience which will always have its place for new releases. I’ll be using Vision Pro on my own time to be immersed in my favorite shows and movies.

I'd say I have a pretty high-end sound system at home. I have an Oculus Quest (1st gen) and played the PC version of Bigscreen VR (A movie theater application for VR) on it. I hooked my PC up to all my audio equipment to play the sound through there (So the movie is in the headset and the audio is playing through my sound system) and I've got to say, that was damn near the closest I've ever felt to being in a real movie theater from the comfort of my own home. I completely forgot I was even in my own home for a few minutes, as it was just too good. The theater was about the size of a real IMAX theater btw. There were also other people wearing headsets themslves in the same virtual theater as me, watching the same movie in multiplayer, and I felt the same "social" feeling as I would normally get from a real theater. After experiencing that, I would say yes, I 100% believe this is absolutely the future of the home theater. Even with a lower resolution headset like the Quest 1.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Год назад
Ohhhhhh that sounds fun! 😁👍🏾 Making the audio go through your PC is key! Then you can get at least 5.1 audio. I’ve been thinking about getting audio out from the headset but all the methods I’ve come up with end up as stereo from my setup instead of multi channel. I think the only way to do the audio side is from a computer and maybe streaming the video to the headset? I don’t know, I haven’t tried it yet. I did pick up a Quest 2 for trial but I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with it yet. Let me know what tips/tricks you have. 😁

Curious. Did you not know this can be done by Quest? Even have several friends join you in the theater (Bigscreen App). Select a movie theater from Grand Cinema to home theater. See and hear each other's avatar. Yes spatial audio, 3D screens. At $295 you can buy 10 for your friends for the cost the Apple... and do it TODAY. I watch movies and shows with friends in other states. We can even give each other high five, throw popcorn. For comfort get a VRbalance and you can watch 3 hours. Trust me. It will blow your mind. You only get sick in rollercoater or smooth motion games. Not watching movies. You can plug a regular power bank into Quest to lengthen time. Everyone in VR is amazed how Apple can come in a pretend they are inventing already existing tech.

they were already a lot of VR headsets that simulate movie theaters. As long as everyone has one it’s like looking at the same screen plus you can simulate sitting in a movie theater Playhouse outside whatever. I’m not saying it’s cost-effective just that it is possible to have a community experience while watching a movie with this thing at home if you have enough of them. They’re gonna get cheaper it’s going to be a non-pro model eventually. Rich people are gonna buy a bunch of them At the start and so will certain businesses. Just like the model S and then they’ll start marketing to the masses. Honestly it’s the immersive video (spatial video) that will kill the home theatre. Apple showed the home theatre experience because people can immediately relate to it. Apple didn’t focus on the immersive video in the presentation because you have to experience it to understand. They did a good job of showing it in a window as a “video memory”, but when you’re actually in the video it’s an amazing experience. The other headsets have this but at a grainy resolution. Apple has the major motion picture studios, music artist and sports connections to make professional high quality content. They also have Apple TV so they can develop their own TV series, specials and movies. I’m sure they’ll have this when you can actually purchase it. There’s going to be challenges because of the network bandwidth required, especially if there are multiple headsets in the house but in a few years everyone will want it. This headset is expensive but I think the majority of people don’t understand the technology that has gone into that R1 chip to process all that video data in real-time in addition to doing the foveated rendering in hardware instead of software.
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Год назад
If they can get a lot of competing content and a model that is much closer to $1K over the next 5 years or so, they could really have a hit on their hands. I believe they will stick with this for a while even if it doesn't sell well for the first 3-5 years. I also agree this is bleeding edge tech and that's why it cost so much. Before the announcement the speculated price was $3K per headset and Apple may not only be breaking even not. Obviously we have no idea but the bill of materials has to be very high especially compare to the other headsets that are out there.

Just buy any decent VR headset like Pico 4 (pancake lens 2160x2160 per eye motorized adjustment for IPD , 50 euro for magnetic custom optical lenses if you need prescription glasses, 102 deg FOV) for like 400 euro and you can experience large screen movies. You will notice that if it is too big and you need to move your eyes to see from one edge to the other the viewing experience is not good. Is like you sit in the front row in a cinema theatre. So for normal movies even 3D, is not worth it because is not comfortable to wear it. There is a difference if you watch 3D 180 deg or 360 deg videos, in this case the experience is different and it can't be replicate. For me this is what it will sell it, to watch a concert or a sport event like you are there, I watched Calvin Harris VR Concert, it is a start in a good direction. So no, it is not home theater future, is something entirely different so the developers had to create apps and content special for this. Even if the technology improved a lot since 1850 when first 3d images were made, still waiting for content, hope it will not go down like 3D TV's because no 3D TV channels.

Amazing! A 15 minute rant, and not a single word about the most important thing! WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOU MOVIES FROM???? I see no HDMI inputs to connect a DVD/BD player, or anything. Looks to me like it's locked to Apple TVs streaming sevice, which makes it pretty useless. What's the point of this great technology, if you can't watch the movies that YOU want to watch. Not what Apple wants you to watch?
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist Год назад
It will come from apps like Disney plus, they said they will have a native app ready on day one. You’re right, Apple doesn’t appear to have plans for connecting to hardware like blu-ray players. Sorry I don’t consider this a rant at all, just me sharing my excitement and some concerns.

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist Sorry for the missunderstanding. I meant "rant" in a posstive way. kinda like a monolog. If we are locked into what the streaming serices want us to watch, the Vision Pro is useless as a movie watching device, no matter how good the tech is!

@@HomeTheaterHobbyist It’s a first Gen product.. so what? It’s not the first kind of this device. They added the technology for 3D and it’s a first Gen. @RogerZoul

I share your concerns, especially regarding audio, which is a big deal for home theater. If Apple would let these work with the Apple TV, instead of replacing it, then it would be easy to let the audio get routing through your AV received and then let the video be handled by the AV Pros. I don’t like to watch anything longer than 2 hrs anyway, so the battery issue would just be a reason to take a break. And I live alone, so I don’t need the communal part of the experience. However, I fear Apple’s attitude would be to force this device to be stand-alone, so they aren’t like to allow it to work in the fashion I have described, because that’s not who they are.

I disagree with one of your points. Producers/directors will make content for Vision because Apple will pay them for it. Either through the Apple TV Service or more traditional means. They will probably make sure their existing content will work as well. Plus Disney announced that Disney Plus will be there on day one. I have no idea how much Apple will spend on content but just like any new business venture you have to invest to give it the best chance to succeed.

I think anything that adds to a more isolated experience is bad for humanity and for society. We already have young people that don't want to go into the social experience in person or at work. Now they can just veg by themselves in yet another dream world. We should be creating experiences that bring people back together in a more social collaborative way, not things that create MORE isolation. Fortunately, this product prices out that generation. But I hate the concept.
