Is Dating Asian Men Finally Normal? 

As an Asian man in his 40s married for 10 years w/ 2 kids I can tell ya looking back 20years+ us Asian guys definitely went through tough times. Although I didn’t think much and lived my whole life like “I don’t give a sh*t” attitude I was able to get by but there were lot more bullying and social outcasting involved in all places especially strong in high school & college slowly building up to workplace. One thing that really pissed me off among Asian communities were that there weren’t many who were willing to step out of their comfort zone. If you like someone go for it and don’t use I’m Asian I don’t have a chance attitude. Young fellas have it better these days but there are still many who live in this box. As for myself I’m 5’6 not exactly handsome nor rich. Only dated outside of my race (although I do love my fellow Asians) & currently married to a European woman.

Happy my bros are seen now. Just wish they could have experienced it with me back in grade school.

Aussie-Filipino mix here in my late 40's. Questions like "Was your mum mail order?" or "Is your mum a nurse?", among others, were quite persistent. The look on their faces when I tell them that Dad is the Filipino, brought to Australia on a Skilled Migrant Worker Visa in the early-mid 70's, because the Aussie blokes didn't want to do the hard jobs. He was a Mechanical Engineer in the Philippines, and could still do the job on Sydney's train network. My Aussie birth mother abandoned my sister and I, to run away with her lover, when we were still very young. My sister was a few months old and I was nearly 2 years old. Years later, my sister and I grew to young adults contributing to the Aussie economy as proud Filos, not Aussie 😂😂 Bless 😂😂

Yes it is now. There are way more interracial relationships for Asian Males with Non-Asian females, especially in major cities that are diverse.

I still find most of my Asian friends not particularly open to the idea of dating non-Asians. My girlfriend is Latina/Black and we're going strong. I just hope to see more of our Asian brothers open to the idea of dating outside their race. It’s pretty fire honestly because it’s a win for everyone. Also it changes the perception of the outside looking in. I’m thankful I was always able to date outside my ethnicity (Filipino) even since middle school, but it’s always makes me smile to see an Asian guy get with a girl that isn’t Asian. I live in the Central Valley Sacramento to Fresno and I can tell you that it is very normal to see Asian men with other races, especially latinas. Has definitely been an uptick these past couple years. Still rather rare to see with a white girl though. Women like men, just want variety.

As a non-Asian woman married to a Chinese man, let me tell you this guys….there are a LOT of woman out there who find you attractive, we sometimes feel that because we don’t fit the Asian standard of beauty, you won’t like us. And from what my husband has told me, it can feel intimidating to them as well 😂 we all shy of eachother but wanna know eachother more

As a 30 year old in suburban new york, in high school we were definitely invisible. Now i find mostly latinas attracted to me. White women are still difficult for me to get dates with but still easier than Asian women. I think kpop really made a huge impact for me.

I have been trying to make a different for ten years and finally gave up and went back to the homeland and for the first time I was treated like I exist in this world. Back in the 90s and in middle school in a white community where there were maybe 5 Asians total, the most popular couple was a WF/AM pair. I had plenty of Hispanic and WF (girls at the time) into me and my prom date and gf (different girls) were WF. The pairing has always been normalized, it's just toxic when it comes to online dating... the same toxic people who can't find matches IRL.

Lots of social media helped but also the communities where the individual grew up. I grew up in the 90's and the perception of asians all knowing kung fu was very common. Also remember that in the days prior to 2000, most asian men were physically smaller in size due to diet. Once my friends and i started eating what the western world eat, our physique are the same. Im 5'8 and 180lbs bulk built. The girls look at large physique as masculine, superior, strong and naturally thats what women want. I attract white and black women the most in my 20's but now in my 30's i attract lots of asians but thats my area. Toronto and vancouver it was easily for me as an asian to attract asian but lets say florida or texas. It was a different story. Still possible but depends on how you dress, physique and talk.

It's always been socially acceptable for non-AF to date AM. The issue isn't whether they're open to it or not; the issue is that AM generally don't make sexual advances to the same proportion as men of other races. You have to understand that the burden of approach and sexual escalation lies squarely on men. A woman will not initiate no matter how attracted she is to a particular guy because it falls outside the purview of their traditional gender role.

Bro, the reason why tides are changing is because there's been Asian guys out there getting non Asian girls for the past decade, those are the dudes that need recognition! Honestly, when you've been dated interracially, you realise how weird society is so focussed on ethnicity when really it doesn't matter at all. Dating non-Asian women was always "normal" for me (I'm a Gen-Xer). I'm Filipino though and within my social circle and immediate family it's quite normal for us Filipino men to be dating and marrying Euro-centric women. Been dating "European" women since my teens (so over 30 years). My current GF of 7yrs is British. Was engaged to a French woman at one point. My brother is married to a woman from Iceland. I've yet to date an Asian woman. Note that I'm 5'6"

I grew up as an Asian immigrant in the 20th century and everywhere I lived until I moved to California was less than 1% Asian so I never dated an Asian woman as there were so few of them where I lived.

I’ve seen too many guys date outside of their race and they tend to show off their women as a prize rather than a partner. Pride in relationships should come from mutual respect, love, and understanding, rather than focusing on superficial differences. Tell you what, I'm 40 and have grown up in Belgium, was never exactly in the front row in the dateable pool in all my high school years, but started to get coveted in my late college years (but also, I was in an art uni, so people were more openminded than regular people). Then came to live in Taiwan for 15 years, and the norm of interracial couples was white dude/ taiwanese girl. For over a decade. Now, for the past year or 2, I finally see more and more white girl/Taiwanese guy couples, and that's heartwarming.
