It's so good to have this competition between the games, for both communities it makes the developers really dedicate themselves to make both games better
Is it? The team that made dying light came from the dead island group in deep silver. Because they were fried and burnt out. They formed their own studio and made dying light...
@@CorvoMrk yes and no. It felt more rewarding in DL1. DL2 lacks a lot of realism. BUT it is still very fun. Regardless, dl1 was a lot better than DL2, you have to remember that DL2 is a next gen sequel.
I want to see both developers put their differences aside and make what I have dubbed "Dying Island". Imagine the satisfying combat and gore system from dead island 2, and the marvelous parkour in dying light 2 combined. An island setting with the environmental storytelling of dead island, and the verticality of dying light would be a dream come true for me. I would want to see a more serious story about survival, focused on the zombies and infected, rather than big human faction vs. big human faction. On top of that, there are many locations that are rather unexplored in gaming that I would personally set this hypothetical game in. I think a Caribbean location like Haiti, a Mediterranean environment such as Greece/Italy, an African-inspired island like Madagascar, or a setting inspired by Sri-Lanka would be such a unique setting for a zombie game, and that's something I would absolutely dish out money for. I don't know if any of the devs will ever see this, but yea, that's my dream for the future of these two series :)
That would be a dream come true, and yeah Haiti setting sounds amazing! Would love to see a mix of areas between the resort of DI1 and the old town of DL1, and some countryside and nature too
I have to say Oni, your videos are becoming more and more fun to watch. The transitions, segments of irl clips and game clips is amazing. You really stepped it up :)
That is DL2 now after the update. Story is still bland but the gameplay is unbelievable. I’m working on a mod to try and replicate dead island map of LA into DL2 engine. Maybe in 20 years I will make it happen 😅
I hope DI2 gets as much post-launch content as DL2 will, both seem like great games overall and even if one had an objectively rockier launch than the other I hope Techland's dedication to fixing their mistakes acts as a signal to other devs in the industry to do the same, though preferably games would just launch without massive bugs :')
Both are still different in their respective universes. I wasnt a fan on the first DI games but DI2 is definitely fun. But still props to Techland for continuing to work on DL2 and listening to their fans
Hate huge open world bullshit with unlimited copy pasted contents. How do u even like this? 30+ hours long story with nothing much to show. The only thing that is actually worth mentioning about dying light 2 is the parkour. That's it nothing else in this game actually does well. The story is so boring that made my eyes roll
Yeah I keep trying to like Dying Light 2 playing through the new update and quests, but it's just missing the something that DL1 had. I am going to try out dead island 2 tomorrow. It looks fun enough and I haven't tried the first dead island. But I used to live in Venice in a tent on the beach with my wife, 😂 not funny actually was very difficult and sad. But I no longer homeless. But anyways it is awesome that it takes place in LA. I just want a solid gun filled zombie fun game.
i have only touched dying light 2 for now but i believe that the game, especially with these new changes the game has gotten a lot better to play, for me it is just missing a little bit to be at the same level as the predecessor, im happy that techland is working on it and i cant wait to see the future of the game
@@christbenitez8797i mean those forsaken buildings amd shit are scary af, i entered one and thougt that was it but then an elevator takes your down another level. I scanned area and full of volatiles and virals, hell nah i exited💀
@@christbenitez8797 DL1 never was really that scary to me, i played on hard but the volatiles felt easy to get away from and at higher levels it wasn't hard to just outright kill them.
Something I don't see when these games are being compared is what dead island 2 does right other than the gore. It's world building is near unmatched in fps videogames other than maybe something like the metro series. There's so many small stories strown around the "open world areas" that anyone can miss if they don't explore properly and take their time. There's loads of small details aswell in terms of environmental interactivity, literally everything you see you can either destroy, move around or do something interesting with that makes the environments feel more alive than 90% of games too (minus the lack of working mirrors lol). Also why does no one seem to mention that it is literally top 5 best looking games ever made? You could take a screenshot on Max settings inside a house, and it'd be hard or near impossible to tell the difference between the house interiors in-game and in real life. And the main thing that it did so well (which dying light 2 failed horribly at, and alot of games seem to fail at these day) was being an overall polished and near glitch-free experience at release. There was no need for a huge day 1 patch like most games need these days. The game didn't crash or even glitch once for me, it was so polished and near flawless in those aspects that they deserve their praise simply for that. On the other hand dying light 2 was glitchy, had bad framerate drops, had loads of weapons buffed and nerfed not long after release. It just wasn't polished like a AAA game should be. All of these reasons and more (after finishing both games) is why I think dead island 2 is head and shoulders above dying light 2 in terms of quality of game and quality of content.
I understand the comparison between both games since they are in the zombie genre, but that's the only thing they have in common. Such far different philosophies were taken for each game and I think both can exist in their own realm which made me happy since Techland and Dambuster were so chill with existing and not trying to compete.
exactly, sort of like how, Need For Speed, Mario Kart and Forza Motorsport are all racing games, but all 3 are so different filling different niches in the racing genre.
Yall are too "everybody wins". Dying light 2 is ten times better. Combat, movement, map, EVERYTHING. Dead island 2 is if you took dying light 2 and stripped it of most of its features and then patched together a crappy combat and animation system. It's not a competition, because dying light 2 knocks dead island 2 out of the water. His critique of dying light 2 showed he's a fanboy of dead island 2 , and that's it. The things that make dying light 2 great is a tech land thing, and dead island 2 has none of them
@@g0stn0te i like the characters more in dead island and how each character is a little bit different and how they all have their own unique dialog some of which is hilarious. I also like the NPC characters in dead island more, mainly because the game doesn't take itself too seriously. And I like how dead island forces you into combat unlike dying light where you spend more time running on rooftops to avoid combat. They are different games with a different feel. Yeah they both have zombies and melee combat and crafting but thats where the similarities end.
@@g0stn0te "His critique of dying light 2 showed he's a fanboy of dead island 2" Hmmm, almost seems like, everyone could say the same about your comment..
The more I think about, the more I realise that these two games are vastly different despite being very similar on the surface, for all the reasons you spoke about in this video.
A terrific comparison of the two epic zombie games, excellent commentary & points made! Love the LA observations about real life vs "Dead Island 2", right on point, as I lived & worked there for many years in the movie industry & I know the insane mindset there!
Both games are awesome and there are alot of things that both the dev teams could learn from the other. I'm really excited to see the future of these games and other games in the same genre as well :)
For me, I really enjoy a longer game. I don't feel like I'd get my money's worth in a shorter game like dead island 2. I'll wait for a sale for it though, just like I did with dying light 2
@@dominat0r3600 For me it's the other way around I can't stand these games that take 50+ hours just to beat the main story it feels like such a waist of time spending that much time on one game I actually really miss the more linear 15 to 20 hour story modes of the PS3 era where you could just beat a game in one weekend but of course the price also reflected the shorter length and game prices now are bloated to hell.
I honestly love both games. They’re unique in their own way with Dying light being more about movement and parkour and Dead Island being all about brutality and killing zombies.
If you look at the changes they have been adding they are highly focused on brutality and killing now night time has gotten such a major difference as well cleaving zombies in half until you have 20 volatiles all at once behind you lol
I enjoy both games during their first release in the 2010s I like dead island 1 on how grounded the game with a limited movement. And there's dying light 1 where the parkour mechanics and horrors of the night was mix up and it's fun and scary at the same time. When their sequels came D.I 2 and DL2. I expect too much that DL2 will be good and had more good gore physics, but its a disappointment on how they rush things up with a tons of bugs and failed rendering of graphics that even the night time is not even scary like the first one, but when D.i 2 came out in ps5 the emptiness that I felt in DL2 has been filled with thrill on how good the physics and gore was and I feel that the devs really take their time developing the game for 12 long years and they deliver a solid and enjoyable game. Dying light can try again but DEAD ISLAND 2 win this generation.
in my opinion, dying light 1 blows both of these out of the water, best gore and combat physics i have ever seen from a game, better atmosphere and ambience, amazing but also scary soundtracks, more horrifying than both of these combined, night time (need i say more?), alot more memorable moments (final segment running from volatiles in the tunnel, blowing up the building, climbing the radio tower), a really detailed and well thought out skill tree, and by far the best paid dlc with the addition of a map more than triple the size of the original, the addition of the buggy (running over zombies wioth the buggy was the best experience i have ever had in a zombie game, as well as whole new skill tree. the maion story is lacking quite a bit but the main story set in place in the dlc is great (the faceless). dying light 1, in my opinion, in its current state is the best zombie game ever released to date
Ive played Dying Light 2 on my ps4 a bit when I got in april while on sale, it was fun but it felt like it missed something. I then got a ps5 in june and started playing it again, the combat update came first and then the volatile one, it felt so crazy to see the game change in real time while I was playing it, I didn't even get to central loop, I just got to it tonight and man this game is amazing.
The magic of Dead Island 2 is the gameplay and the environmental interactions the puzzles for locked areas aren't hard enough to need a guide but enough to make you think a bit. The ability to actually use a broken fire hydrant to spread shock damage by throwing a battery you found in a car that you pulled out because you were reckless and now have a horde on you to use said set up on is something a lot of the industry doesn't lean into much at all and it really sucks because these small attentions to detail really add a lot to the gameplay and the sandbox. The maim feature is amazing, how you attack special enemies matter and the difference of using blunt weapons versus cleaving weapons is a nice touch. Like if you use a meat cleaver on a smashers arms you actually break the elbow joint and the fore arms are left dangling vs a machete which will carve straight through. The ability to learn their weakness and see the elemental zombies like the fact the fireman zombies cant be hurt by corrosive and fire makes sense because of their gear but a perfectly timed block or dodge will give you opening to bypass these immunities and rewards your skill in the sandbox. As well this is the first game outside of dead rising 1 and 2 that makes guns feel balanced with ammo in the over world being scarce so you use the limited ammo you have wisely and doesn't just automatically make melee weapons obsolete when you access to them unlike dying light 2 which just removed them all together because they cant figure out the sand box and honestly I feel that dying light 2 is weaker even against dying light 1 and for me personally I enjoy both but the setting of dead island 2 is better in my opinion and edges it out against dying light 1.
I love both games but i definitely pay more attention to dead island's story because mid playing dying light 2 i realize the bias towards 1 particular faction and how no matter what the opposing faction will always be in the wrong
I always thought because it’s techland the story is gonna subpar for Dying light 2 so I’m in it for the gameplay. Have more than 700 hours on the game. The addiction to parkour is only getting started🏃💨
It's always nice to see you how passionate you are. I'm glad to see Techland noticed your channel and decided to cooperate with you among other creators. Keep it up! Greetings from Poland :)
As a huge fan of Dying light, I have yet to parkor into it do to the poor state it lunched in. Keeping an eye on it from the coverage you produce has me hopeful it will eventually be close to the promise. Thanks for being so passionate.
@@bearbro10t’s in a good state. Not great. It’s still a big disappointment. Don’t listen to bearbro. Wait Another year and then you should get it. It’s still got a lot of problems. I play dying light 1 while I wait for dying light 2 to become great. Because honestly dying light 2 is still not as good as dying light 1.
Well, after the latest update, according to Onizombi, it breaks the chase in the beginning of the game. Where the howler zombies would initiate the first chase. So, to answer your question when it's in a playable state in which these types of bugs don't exist.
Man the way Dying Light 2 turned out is sad to me, I loved the first game and played the hell out of it. Dying Light 2 I enjoyed at launch and played the campaign but after that I just lost all interest. Even with all the updates I can’t get back into it. Dying Light 1 kept me playing long after the story, I beat all the side quests and played the following and did all the challenges. Dying Light 2 I don’t even feel like trying the side quests, the challenges were okay but I can’t get back into it. The DLC expansion is the last hope. It needs a good story, good characters and good quests and map. Techland please get this right.
my guy, Dying light 2 is not a highly replayable game lmfao. A good example of a game with good replayability is Fallout New Vegas beacuse there is so much that you will miss in 1 playthrough, plus the insane modding community. (this goes for F4 too)
One of the biggest reasons I haven’t played DI2 is because of how “inaccessible” it is. I primarily play my games on PC through steam, and when I heard this game was gonna be an epic exclusive I passed on it. Mostly for my distrust of Epic Games and how I also wanted to play this on my Steam Deck.
Dying light 2 has its story moments like Alberto Vincenzo lawan and so on a sizable amount is forgettable but it does work at least for me dying light has some tearjerkers and great darker character moments while dead island has the goofier moments
I love both for different reasons, they're both good games in my opinion and I'm personally tired of fans of either game constantly fighting about which is better and shitting on each other for their preference. I love both games, but I hate their communities, the fans are terrible and keep me from interacting in the community spaces 99% of the time because of how toxic they are
I think DL2 from launch was a pleasant experience. There were a lot of bugs and issues, but they've fixed a majority of them and actively listen to the community. I never really had any interest in Di2 as it seemed to be another cash grab on an old franchise, and the development hell and consistent cancelations made me less and less interested as time went on. I think that's what separates Techland from Deep Silver. Deep Silver is in it for profits alone and Techland is in it for profits AND to build a game that the community enjoys. I think DL2 will just overall receive more support than that of it's competitor. However, from gameplay standards, I don't think Di2 is bad whatsoever.
I didn’t buy Dying light 2 because there’s no guns 😂. A zombie game with no guns is really pointless to me so I bought Dead Island 2 and I love. I wish theres more zombies tho because LA has 17million people so we need more 😜
I play both with friends and was having A LOT of fun. Than one of my friends got too far ahead in the story in Dead Island 2 and the game says we can’t play together because of story progression misalignment. Haven’t played too much since then. I wasn’t a fan of the linear gameplay of Dead Island 2 either. Plus it’s an Unreal first person shooter so movement feels stiff especially compared to Dying Light 2 which feels really good to play. Finally I load in Dead Island 2 and it’s the same as launch. Meanwhile there are seasonal events going on in Dying Light 2. So for me personally there is a lot more value with Dying Light 2. But if someone else likes Dead Island 2 more than that’s great, different horses for different courses. As long as you are having fun that’s all that matters.
Dead island is a great coop game for zombies and has a great story mode while dying light has amazing game mechanics and numerous dope ways to kill zombies and humans. Dead island is more of humans banning together against zombies while dying light is humans vs humans mainly
Fighting humans with DI2 gore system would be awesome, but i can understand why they didnt add humans, DL2 still has some pretty satisfying human combat tho
I haven't gotten to get to dead island yet, but I have played the crap out of dying light 2 and I'm happy to see a video finally not choosing a side but to have a middle ground for each. Also love that you went to both L.A and Poland
If these companies could come together for Dying Island 3 then it would be the greatest zombie game ever created. Amazing graphics/gore. Traversal. RPG elements. Story. They shouldn’t have separated
For the support part, mad respect to both companies. Dead Island 2 came out in a nearly perfect state showing respect and dedication of the team to make a good game and Dying Light 2 came out broken but Techland kept en bettering it and fixing the game for it to be less buggy. Nowadays, companies like Ubisoft don't give a damn about how buggy and unfinished their game is if they get money from it
The biggest negative on DL2 for me is the setting, there is something about the "The apocalypse just happened" setting that is more appealing to me vs an world some years into it
I just started Dead Island 2 and i'm enjoying it a lot. Especially because i remember being very frustrated with Dying Light 2's graphics and bugginess.
Crazy how a year ago I wrote a review for Dying Light 2, saying that, I was very disappointed they had no firearms like Dying Light 1 and as long as they have no guns, I won't play the game. A few months later they added the gun update 😂 Gotta love/thank Techland for listening 💯
This is such a good video and is very underrated with the likes and views, keep making vids like this and keep up the great work your subs, views and likes will soon sky rocket
I’m wanting more locations and more story in dead island 2. Downtown L.A, Long Beach, the L.A airport, the L.A port, the Hollywood sign, Keck Hospital of USC, the marina, terminal island, etc.
one of the difference is also the apocalypses itself, in dead island, the outbreak is fairly new and people just try to survive but in Dying light 2, we are several years after the outbreak and instead of trying to survive, everyone tries to live in this world since there's no cure
I'm currently playing through DL 2 for the second time. I played both upon release. I've played Dead Island 3 times. I play every day, but I take my time. I can make a 4- 8 hour game last 20 hours, somehow. Like RE4, for example. So I have to say, Dead Island 2 Is definitely shorter than DL2. I had a lot of fun playing DI2, and I really love the weapon customization. I think there was a major update to Dying Light2 since I played this last, or maybe the gore is just so much more intense than I remember. I love that fast travel is minimal. In both games, you can fast travel to a zone, but then you need to travel to a specific location. Dead Island2 has you travel at ground level most of the time. It's kind of linear. Dying Light2, on the other hand, you eventually turn into a sort of Spiderman. You can climb up every building, and travel across the roofs of buildings, or you can run along the streets. You can even take to the skies..with limitations. Dying Light has your anxiety levels through the roof every time the sun sets in the game. I love that there are harder creatures at night. I have to give the edge to Dying Light 2. I love the gore, I love the parkour, but I crusading will play Dead Island 2 again.
I freaking knew it! When I was trying to figure out what city the city was based on I found techland's home base city was the most fitting too. Also fits for the map in the intro. That's so cool.
Watching this video now after the latest Dying Light 2 update is great. Seeing some of the things that just weren't available before now is kinda crazy. All the updates DL2 has received has actually turned it into my favorite zombie game of all time!
Both do something good. Dying light 2 (DL 2) has a amazing world with a lot of personality, I can't find a area in DL 2 that looks bad. And moving around that lovely world is just as fun. Where it falls is the infected. They are the exact same as the first game. And the new infected are under baked. and returning infected are either under used or just tiring. In Dead Island 2 (DI 2) the zombies are much better and have more variety. Gore is also better (and still holds up post gore update) both have freedom in different areas. DL 2 has better movement and combat. While DI 2 has amazing variety in enemies and entertainment. Both are worth the price
I haven’t played dead island 2 yet but I did play dl 2 on release and now I’m playing through again on ps5 instead on Xbox one and I love the game, it looks real great and the new parkour and gore updates are amazing.I really love what the devs did with dl2
I think techland could pull off making some sort of small stories based around characters like viscenzo and waltz, similar to resident evils short stories. It would allow for more connection to these characters we almost never saw
Or the way they tell stories but then important characters and origins or rare stuff like infected and survivors how they see things like they did the I am legend comics style shorts stories but very awesome
I love dying light 1 and 2 played both of them countless of times ive played dead island it just felt to much like a arcade game for me to get in to it which also stopped me playing the second one is it worth giving it a try?
I haven't played dead island 2, I've watched my friend play it quite a bit and it's pretty awesome, however dying light 2 is amazing, and even the first dying light, what I love most is even over dead island, dying light created the zombie killing game that you can literally kill zombies over and over and it doesn't get stale or repetitive from a normal walker to a volitle to a demolisher it doesn't matter each kill, bludgeoning, dismemberment explosion electrocution, into a decapitation lets not forget, the flying up up and away zombie 😂 every time its what ?? This game is awesome never gets old zombie slaying and techland have delivered that in spades, and I've said it once and I'll say it many more times I have the utmost respect and gratitude for techland being so transparent and open with the community and not to big to interact with thier community, I can count on one hand how many game developed/companies do that, ID software not Bethesda! Techland and well hmm 🤔 running out of options here 😬 yikes, nevertheless there's just so many good things that come to mind when I think about playing dying light as opposed to COD it's like cod is like yeah it could be fun if Thier aren't Adderall juiced up maniacs occupying the lobbies or hackers that ruin any chance of having a lag free bs match that ruins enjoyment of getting streaks and unfairly being killed by a wal hacked over penetrating bullet, like wtf 🙄 here we go again, and then theres dying light and its like hmm I wonder what i can climb to and discover before night falls, oh yeah i have a bounty active i can unlock that dope weapon soon😅ahh this game is just a gem 💎 love it 👍 and I can get emersed and hours can go bye and its like no time feels waisted or unenjoyable or tedious, so that said I have no reason to not praise dying light iether game, and one thing i always say to people on the fence of getting the game is they said they will support the game for at least 5 years I damn well believe them because they make good on Thier word and that in itself says a whole lot about them and how not many others as in developers can be relied on the same way so 👍👍 can't wait to see what happens over the next 4 years
Dead Island 2 handles co-op a lot better, at least in my experience. For Dying Light 2, maybe it's because I had a really old save that I was using instead of starting fresh, but: 1) the de-sync was really noticeable, though that could be due us being on opposite sides of the US, 2) since I played almost the whole game in co-op, all the locations were showing as completed despite a lot of them still being undiscovered on my map in solo play, 3) bounties weren't really working at all in co-op, but worked just fine when I played alone, and 4) some things are only lootable by 1 person when in a co-op session, with the Hag hunting ground events being the most prevalent and only one of us could get the samples from looting the claw marks. Granted, some of this content is relatively new, so it may just be due to that, but it didn't feel nearly as good as I remembered when the game was new and didn't have all the extra stuff like bounties and what not.
Nice videos, man. There aren't that many quality channels that update or mainly just go about DL in their vids. well man, you're an exception, keep the good work up.
The only thing that Dead Island 2 does INFINITELY better than Dying Light 2, is the blood and gore. Both in body damage, and enviromental blood effects. Everything else apart from that is better in Dying Light 2
Started listening to Oni a few months ago in the hopes of hearing something positive in the pipeline for Dying Light 2. Needless to say I was not disappointed. Now I'm curious about Dead Island 2, seeing that it's public hype is more or less dead already. I only hear about the game here on the channel. I hope both games (especially Dying Light 2) go on to be successful for years to come.
Tip when you go to saint paul island for the Baba go into church wait til night and go to the court yard and climb the wall and start a chase. climb back up the wall wait til virals and others climb up then jump down into the court yard and stay near the wall and keep their attention. watch how they drop down and commit zombie suicide search them and get the items you can do this infinitely. ENJOY!
I'd argue the parkour isnt the most intretting thing about Dying Light 2's map but rather its medieval Post-Apocolypse built ontop of the centuries old european city.
Played dead island 2 for about two hours.. then got bored. Played multiple playthroughs of dying light 2 and still love that game. The only thing is no guns, and the little vendors you have to rank up are really boring and tedious in dl2
I cant lie the most memorable moment in dead island 2 is the end of the side questline for the blogger chick. To say i was INVESTED in that little influencer is an understatement
Bro the parkour update for DL2 has been here for quite some time now, also you don't unlock fast-travel to those windmills, you unlock a safe spot for night chases and new vendors, side quests, etc. Pretty uninformed video.
Some of my favorite features on both games: Dying Light 2: •Parkour with combat •Night Chase •Balance on First-Person and Third-Person Animation •Story Dead Island 2: •Fury Mode •Superior Gore System •Variety of zombies •Beautiful Graphics
