A very good discussion. Thank you! I'm so glad you are pulling the curtains back on Calvinism. It's a very complicated puzzle and it's difficult to keep all the pieces in clear view.

The Prodigal Son "drifted away" too, but his loving father welcomed him back regardless.

@@2Chronicles714_ Yes, because we are reborn through Him as he forgives our sins. And yes, we *_will_* commit more sins after being converted while we are still alive in mortal flesh.

So if you believe as a child, but when your an adult begin to HATE God, and you die, still living in sin, despising God, are you still saved?

I had hoped that this video would clear up some confusion, but I still have no idea to how you can come to the conclusion that eternal security is COMPLETELY different from Perseverance of the saints. They are obviously related doctrines. This was just confusing.

Ive always rejected OSAS since I was a teen. I think 'theology' sets up a straw man. This is my understanding as of today. The Lord said you shall know them by their fruits. John the Baptist told the soldiers to repent and bear fruits in keeping of repentance (Luke 3:8). Jesus spoke of four types of hearts (Matthew 13). The good soil heart won't lose their free gift of salvation because of faith in Christ. They have borne fruit in keeping of repentance. Not that they earned it. But because they know the Lord and responded to the Word in obedience, and entered through the narrow door. Everyone else, the seeds that fell on stony places, among thorns, etc. are those who were unworthy for the age to come and the resurrection. For they suffered shipwreck of the faith and have fallen from grace for whatever reason (1 Tim 1:19, Gal 5:4) . They may have had an initial positive response, tasted of the heavenly gift, but for whatever reason, they were choked out by the thorns, the devil snatched the seed, or the sun scorched the Word and they had to root. But in all cases, no one lost salvation. They never had it in a sense because only true believers are sealed for the day of redemption (Eph 1:13). Wheat amond tares (Mat 13:34). And salvation is yet future (Rom 8:23). But true believers do have it, because the promises of God are Yes and Amen and Salvation means to Know God (John 17:3), which is in the present. That's why Jesus said to 'Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able' Luke 13:24 If someone wants to know if they truly know God, well then....1 John.

@jevitadowell403 yeah, Calvinists don't like the OSAS label, but it's basically what they believe.

Perseverance of the saints puts the responsibility on the PERSON. Eternal Security puts the responsibility on the SAVIOR. They are most definitely NOT the same. One person is WORKING for their salvation, while the other person is trusting in Jesus ALONE to keep them saved, since he is the one who does the saving anyway.

I don’t know any Calvinist who would say the POTS means a believer cannot “drift”. And POTS wouldn’t make drifting impossible.

You can never lose your eternal salvation! Jesus Christ, Peter, Paul, James, John etc. really didn’t mean what they said in Luke 9:62, 1 Corinthians 15:2, 2 Peter 1:10, 2:20-22, Hebrews 4:1, 11, 6:4-6, 10:26-29, 38-39, James 5:19-20, 1 John 5:7, etc., etc, etc. Those scriptures don’t really mean what they say! Everyone is going to make it! Shipwrecked your faith by unrepented sin (1 Timothy 1:19-20)? No problem! Sold your birthright in Christ for sinful living like Esau? No problem, Hebrews 12:15-17 doesn’t apply to you! In all seriousness, these gentlemen are making a distinction between two false doctrines that are actually different sides of the same coin. Different wings of the same bird. A bird that flies in the face of all of the warnings of the New Testament. Dr Michael Browns debate with Corey Minor on this subject is a must watch because he thoroughly refutes these beliefs.

Heresy... Hebrews 10:26-29 26 For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?"
@savedwretch
@savedwretch Год назад
Adding on to my previous comment... note:..."...no longer remains a sacrifice". So if you choose to disobey God free-willingly...., there no longer mains a sacrifice left for you (Jesus'blood would not cover you on Judgement day) at this state of your life , also known as "drifted away or fallen back or fallen away". In this state you are NOT under God's grace....the Spirit of grace has left you since you disobeyed God willfully.
@HarpsDad22

That is absolutely false. “No longer a sacrifice for sins” means that Jesus WILL NOT come back and die on the cross again. He only had to die ONCE to pay for ALL the sins of mankind. Context is key. That passage was a warning to Jewish BELIEVERS to not fall back into animal sacrifices to pay for their sins, and trust in the ONE sacrifice that Jesus made. And if they sinned willfully by going back to animal sacrifices they should look for the severe chastisement from the Lord (fiery indignation.) This doesn’t mean they are going to Hell if they willfully sin. They will receive temporal punishment here on earth, but they will be saved forever.

If a person turns from the faith in permanent unrepentant unbelief, they are not eternally secure. They do not have eternal life apart from Christ who is our life. One does not lose their free will when they come to faith in Christ. And no, you can't sin your way out. If you believe, you're in and IF, in permanent unrepentant unbelief, you turn from Him, you're not.

WRONG You and Christ become one with the Holy Spirit. Therefore you cannot sin no more in the spiritual sense. Physically you will sin.

@@fightingwithtruth1698 "Sealed" means "approved" as by a royal seal. "Approved" for use at the masters table, as an example. How are we approved? Through faith. PERIOD.

@@fullfrontalgrace the verse says that you were sealed with the Holy Spirit the moment that you believed until the day of redemption for the purchase possession yes that would imply that we can sit at the Lord's table that would match up with the unrighteous shall not stand in the Assembly of the righteous but once you're sealed and redeemed you can't lose salvation I absolutely believe in faith alone the thief in the cross made it to Paradise by faith alone if any of us make it to Heaven it will be by Jesus Christ imputed righteousness not by any works of the flesh Galatians 3:3. Once we have the holy spirit he will never leave nor forsake us which backs up ephesians 1:13. That verse implies how we are saved period

So you can live in wilful unrepentantant sin and go to heaven? You can deny Jesus by your deeds continually without turning from your ways? NONSENSE. You can't love the world and love God. Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2:15‭-‬17

Sooo, you’re saying sin is greater than the grace of God? Preposterous. Salvation is a ONE TIME EVENT. Salvation is attained upon the nanosecond of belief in Jesus Christ as the payment for your sins. It is not dependent on how we live our lives afterwards. How we live our lives is WORKS. And we’re not saved by works.
