1) Hinduism is Monotheistic. 2) God has many attributes/forms but that does not make God divisible. He is One and Unique. 3) when you worship God, you worship Him for various reasons and situations. These are the different functions of God. But He is One God all the same. 4) Even though you worship God by calling out His various names/attributes/forms at one time over the other. He is the One same God. He does not split or fragment into multiple Gods. 4) God the Creator is Brahma God the Sustainer is Vishnu God the Destroyer is Shiva God the Giver is Lakshmi God's power is Shakti/Durga But it is all the one and the same God

But calling it polytheistic is also their cunning way to humiliate Hinduism I am gora from Europe and I speak some Hindi. I have spent time to learn about Sanatan Dharma. I have taken formal classes in Basics of Hinduism by Guru Jay Lakhani, may his soul be in eternal bliss, and passed the test which was pretty tough and got the Certificate from Hindu Academy. Besides that I have received a course and certification from Udemy. Now I do not want to boast. God forbid. I saw that Guru Lakhani was deeply inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramakrishna and I am very into Advaita Sanatan Dharma. BUT I love Shaivanism, Vaishaniam, Etc. All are one. Vishnu, Shiv, Brahma, the Tridev, are one. As for Avatars, is there anything impossible for God the Sustainer (Vishnu) to send holy humans with the spirit of God himself in them, or de facto human-gods to defeat evil in every Yuga. Keep in mind Lord Krishna, Lord Ram and even Lord Buddha as avatars, supernatural godly persons, had big challenges. But the Kalki Avatar the 10 reincarnation of Vishnu will face most difficulty and I have a stern warning here. Many who call themselves hindus are engrossed in adharma let alone non hindus. Lord Kalki is coming with a huge sword to establish justice and dharma on this planet. We must repent and beg God to make us live in Dharma and if we happen to see Lord Kalki in our lifetimes may we be on his side.

Tell me something please, how is the idea of Nirvana different from the Western idea of nihilism?..... As far as I can see Buddhism believes that everything is nothing and nothing matters but views it in a positive way and the nihilist believes the same, but views it in a negative way.

'Brahma' is considered a major deity and one aspect of so-called "Trinity" in Hinduism. Brahma, theoretically a major deity, is completely different from 'Brahman', which is a Conceptual Category in Hindu religious Philosophy encompassing everything and anything conceivable in existence. Human beings, individuals, on the other hand, are identified as "Atman" or individuated selves. Vedanta schools of Hindu philosophy especially the Advaita Vedanta (or Non-Dualism) deal with aspects of Atman and Brahman and their relationships. Now, coming to another word you mentioned, 'Brahmin' is the name for the priestly class/caste in India. Traditionally, they have been the sole interpreters of religious texts in India. Since all the three words - Brahma, Brahman and Brahmin- have similar roots in Sankrit, it can be a bit confusing.
Sanatan Dharma is a monotheistic living spiritual panetheistic way of life with many schools of though, from Advaita to Shaivanism, Vaishnavism etc. Whoever you worship as your Supreme God, they are all one. Even the minor devas are part of the Supreme God. If one has eyes to see and a heart to understand he will. And when you do the murti poojas, focus on the murti but your heart is connected to the Supreme Being Always.
Paganism is the world invented by missionaries and peaceful community to denigrate hinduism. Pantheistic, panetheistic and spiritual living monotheistic way of life with the ultimate aim to connect the devotee with the supreme Reality. This is how I would describe it.
Also Hinduism places the greatest respect to the Yogic tradition, especially Gyan Yoga. Vedas are supposed to be the living books of human knowledge and not limited to the 4 written already. In that sense, the scientists, artists and knowledge workers of today's world are the great sages or Gyan Yogis, and the scientific, artistic and other literature created today are and should be part of the Vedas.
As well as the origin of the word is people from Persia accidentally adding an H to indus from their language. and then they went on to accept the word that was put on to all people of India. Its geographical, heck even if there were some practicing what Shakyamuni Buddha taught they'd be put under that umbrella. Just something to consider.
Even Shakyamuni called his dharma Sanatan. He was needed at a time when the general public was steeped in ritualistic blindness! If Buddha didn't come, India would've been worse off
God has no levels. Parashakti, Mahadev, Narayan, Mahaganapati etc are all the Supreme. The Devas are Part of The Almighty which he manifests simultaneously or in different ways. Ignorance of calling hinduism polytheistic and even pantheistic, instead of panetheistic, is exactly what dry pagan (so called monotheists abrahamists) want hindus to think about Sanatan Dharma. I am not even Indian nor Hindu by ancestry yet I have spent and still spend time to learn Hinduism (out of humility I did not want to say this but I do hold two certificates after accompishing two courses one from Guru Jay Lakhani/Hindu Academy, and one in Udemy, and two certificates, so I have some formal education and was tested about this knowledge).
ParaBrahmaan, ParaAdi Shakti, Adi Mahadev, MahaGanapati. All are The Supreme. The Devas are subjected to them. The Vedas are clear about this. The devas are not separate entities. No. They are either qualities, attributes of The Supreme, or His Creation with whom the Supreme Being manifests His Presence amongst us. But remember don't seek God anywhere else, but in your heart. The path to Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha is hard and I know that, but be devoted sincere repent do seva and ask Supreme Being's Mercy either Lord Shiv Lord Vishnu Lord Brahma Lord Ganesh Mother Godess. Whatever be sincere, humble, repent, beg God in any way you want to worship him/her, ask with sincerity, humility to forgive you, to guide you, to give strength to perform seva and live in dharma. Without The Supreme Being's Mercy we can never achieve moksh on our own efforts. May The Supreme Being make us follow and give us strength to follow Dharma because we are so weak, especially in this horrible era of Kali Yug.
Yes Advaita school which says the Supreme Being is NON DUAL. Or otherwise said a living spiritual panetheistic monotheistic way of life that ultimately unites the sincere devotee to the Supreme Being. How few and rare are those humans in Kali Yug.
It gets even muckier when you consider "Hinduism" can technically cover *all* Indian religions, including Buddhism and Jainism which explicitly reject concepts like Brahman all together. However, traditions like those do fall outside of "Orthodox" (or more properly, Vedic) Hinduism.

They have profound symbolism and metaphoric allegorism in them. All these names, all these devas, some say 33 crore some say only 33 three, are one and the same. Inseparable. This is not dry monotheism. This is living spiritual panetheistic monotheism, which the sikh gurus tried to educates the hindus and muslims alike.
That is what Guru Nanak Dev Ji and all 10 sikh gurus taught. They wanted to open the eyes of blind hindus and muslims. But dont buy into modern sikhism. All Devas attribute the Supreme Being with His Absolute Essence or his divine qualities manifested on all the cosmos and above all in our hearts. Make sure the poojas you make focus on the ultimate reality then the murti (symbol to focus on worship) has lost its purpose.
They just follow what their parents taught them. a born christian will follow blindly his parents christian sect, muslim same all same. Few are those who by God's mercy arise and see the truth and devote themselves in penance and seva to unite with Him in their hearts.

And for your kind information samkhya and chakravar are athiestic philosophy of Vedas whereas Buddhists, Jain's reject Vedas and are younger than Vedic athiestic philosophy

And I know Sankhya Darshan’s origins are traced in the Rig Veda and some of the older Upanishads, and that Buddhists deny the authenticity of vedas, but Buddhism is an atheist school of thought as well..

Hinduism is not a secular religion. Its full of schools of thoughts and diversity. Yes it is monotheistic, panetheistic, spiritual. But dont accept the words pagan and polytheistic or mushrik used by christians and islamists to denigrate you. A sincere logical atheist is a million times better than abrahamists and even ignorant hindus who do blind poojas and forget the essence of those poojas and rituals. May God enlighten them.
