This guy is awesome. This was literally a free doctor's visit, and probably more informative and helpful than most anyway! I lift heavy and play lots of games and these tips, and others from his other videos, really really helped!
went to urgent care last week, i felt super rushed. all she said was to press my wrists together and if it hurts it means carpal tunnel. since it didnt work shes all like "ok im putting you on minimal activity using the mouse and keyboard for 2 weeks". (literally my job) nothing else. no treatment options besides ibuprofen (F that). said to come back in 2 weeks, lol nope. thank you dr Levi!!
So you guys are complaining about your doctors for not examining you, while praising a doctor that did not examine you and gave you the exact SAME recommendations: brace, less aggravating activities and anti-inflamatory medication. You both have a serious case of doublestandarditis.
There are a few factors in exercises to lessen carpal tunnel syndrome pain. One plan I discovered which successfully combines these is the Dariks pain destroyer (google it if you're interested) definately the most helpful resource that I've heard of. Check out the incredible info .
im 35 years old. I fell in love with a game many years back (about 20) my hands are broken from this game i played it so much. I made 10k or so in prize money and online transactions through the game halo 3. I played it competitive as hell and i played 12 hours every day including christmas. the last 2 halo games honestly were horrible and i didnt play them much and always found myself going back to the classic game. Now my hands dont work and halo dropped a huge game that is crazy fun and im literally crying because it takes me several hours to loosen up my hands to where I can keep up with my friends and have a good time, as it stands im playing average for the most part unless my hands feel good. Its something i do with a heavy passion of mine in my off time. I also workout all the time and this has also destroyed my hands i almost cant even feel them anymore. I have paid very close attention to one of your videos stretched out my hands for about an hour and i have feeling in them again and they feel like they did many years ago. Thank you Dr Harrison, you may have yet saved a massive passion of mine. Ill continue stretching for a couple hours a day, at this point it cant be a bad thing... thanks again man ps i know its just a game but its something i love to do. i am a pretty successful sales person in my everyday life but halo is something i love and dr you may have helped tremendously be able to bring me back to my glory days lol. thanks
Hi if you need more info to help with ur wrist, here’s this video it’s received a lot of positive feedback in the comments. I recommend! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fdD7CgN5FGg.html
Thank you for this video. I've injured my wrist, just moved, a musician and my hand is in pain. I had what looked like a little bone on my wrist, then one morning I woke up in agony. Was having a hard time picking up anything including a sheet. Doc said sesamoid, other doc says tendinitis. It's kind of scary, been this way over a month. Any help would be appreciated.
I've been researching treating carpal tunnel syndrome at home and discovered an awesome website at Dariks pain destroyer (google it if you're interested)
here's a few suggestions for relieving carpal tunnel syndrome pain at home Do stretching exercises get expert advice as it can lead to permanent damage (I learned these and why they work from Dariks pain destroyer site )
@Harrison Dudley pretty sure league of legends is how I got mine but I dont really play games anymore. Working out sure does not help since all I do is weightlifting now and i woke up looking up a video because of how much it kept me up last night.
I dunno about rare. Haven't heard of many legit surgeons who will go straight to invasive surgery when not needed, and I've seen my fair share. Virtually none will go "oh you have some tendon/nerve pain, let's open you up and operate!" It really depends on the severity of the problem, history and when non-invasive treatment fails. Most surgeons and other doctors, when it comes to joint/tendon pain, are gong to try with non-invasive things like rest/stretching/exercises/etc. That's not to say there aren't some doctors who won't go straight to prescribing some meds(pain relievers, anti inflammatory, relaxer), but even then it's usually due to the severity and word of mouth from patient of what has or hasn't worked so far. Then of course there's straight up shady doctors
@@muddyhotdog4103 In my case, my doctor immediately talked about surgery. I have very slight numbness in my index finger and thumb, not always, and the electromyography exam showed slight compression of the medial nerve. I will investigate the matter further and ask for a second opinion. I don't take surgery lightly.
If you want help getting rid of carpal tunnel then go here now: CarpalTunnel.club Are these also useful for de quervain syndrome which is another type of pain in the wrist. Not sure if I spelled it correctly.
The first time I’ve come across this doctors profile and wow, he is so informative, easy to understand, and I learned so much in an easy calm manner! Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!!
I've been pretty upset about my wrists lately, I'm a violinist, I work out at home and I love it, and quarantine this past months has made me sit on my laptop all day to get through college. I'm 18, I get constant pain on my wrists and forearms, I noticed I can only control the pain if I keep my wrists straight, but now I can't lean on my hand to stand up it if I'm sitting on the floor, I can't do high planks, I can't do pushups, or mountain climbers, I can't even grab something that's a little heavy because it hurts, I can't sleep at night if my wrists aren't straightened, it's really annoying. I don't know what caused it, I do a lot of pushups, but my form is right, I did Crossfit for 3 years (I stopped 2 years ago) and I learned the correct form. I guess it was the laptop posture, for a lot of weeks I was using the touchpad and I didn't check how high my table was, I corrected that (desk is at the height where my wrists stay straight and there's a 90 degree angle for my arms), but I'm sick of the constant pain. I've rested from working out my upper body for about 4 weeks now and the pain's still there
I'm late to this comment but wrapping my hands and wrists with kinesiology tape to limit my range of motion (slightly) and stop my wrists from being flexed during sleep has helped wonders, even 24hrs after wrapping I could feel the results. limiting the range of motion allows you to reduce further damage and prevent setbacks while your ligaments and tendons heal and using OTC anti-inflammatory meds helps for comfort when the pain is at its worst. Compression gloves for arthritis achieve the same results but make sure to get a good brand/quality gloves with no fingertips so your day to day activities aren't interrupted. The wraps or gloves itself aren't going to heal you but allow you to keep safe so that you can heal without potentially prolonging the process by reinjuring yourself. If you're short on cash or don't feel like spending too much money on good compression gloves you can get kinesiology tape for pretty cheap and check how you feel after a week of keeping yourself wrapped up. There are a couple videos on youtube that show you how to apply the wraps correctly and you can replace the tape every 3 days.
Very grateful for all of this information and genuine insight. I've incorporated so many of the exercises into my routine to help my hands which have given me issues since a couple years ago. I'd hate to have to play games, type, play my instruments, and cook a lot less because of my hands being weak and bothered.
You need to be mentioning the primary treatment for carpal tunnel, Massage therapy. A medical massage can fix carpal tunnel. You need to work not only on the forearm, but also the shoulder and hips. There is no nerve entrapment that isn't first from the muscle, because that is what directly affects the bone.
Tendonitis can be a rare side effect of medication as well. I only started experiencing what I could only describe as "a randomly sprained wrist with no apparent cause" on BOTH my hands at different times, after being on Wellbutrin for a couple months. Really frustrating.
aww man thats what i love to hear!!!! a doctor that brings together all kinds of treatment options and is actually interested in healing the right way! smart man right here. i aspire to be like you one day! God bless!
So glad that I have found this channel! Truly a blessing! Can "FEEL" your sincere. caring spirit! Your videos give us hope! May God bless you and your practice!❣
Some of this is misleading. Carpal tunnel is overdiagnosed according to the literature. It is in fact quite rare that there is a true impingement of the median nerve. So, if not carpal tunnel, what else could it be? "Tendonitis" is extremely probable, except that nowadays it is referred to as tendinopathy, not tendonitis. In the 90s and 2000s researchers were convinced that inflammation was not a component of tendinopathy, hence the move away from "tendonitis". In the past few years (since about 2014), inflammation is making a comeback. It is just that the inflammation in chronic tendinopathy is atypical and harder to find. Still, according to the literature as to what works for tendinopathy, treating inflammation is not effective. Indeed, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen have been implicated in IMPAIRING tendon healing. You want to stay away from that. What works for tendinopathy? Loading, in short. Tendons *DO NOT RESPOND TO REST*. It is important to make this clear. Absolute rest for tendons is not effective in the long run. It will definitely calm down the pain in the short term, but you will be compromising your functional capability in the long run. The minute you return to higher activity, the tendon will play up again, because it has not been acclimatised to bigger loads due to simply resting. It is important to note that *PAIN DOES NOT EQUAL TISSUE DAMAGE*. Pain is from your brain; your central nervous system. To recover, you must load your tendon through weighted exercises. But progressively and carefully. You may experience slightly increased pain throughout this process, but again, pain does not equal tissue damage. You must maintain pain in the Goldilocks Zone between 2-5. Any less you're not doing enough. Any more you're doing too much. As for the loading programmes, recommendations differ. Some argue that only eccentric contractions are worth it for tendinopathy. However, the literature tends to show that it doesn't matter what contraction you're doing, as long as eccentric is a part of it. Just don't do too much or too little.
Hi Dr. Levi, just came across your channel this morning in my search for wrist strengthening exercises. I’m a massage therapist and have sprained both wrists in the space of about 3 weeks. Thank you for the work you do to inspire and educate and I look forward to watching more of your videos. I will also use the information to educate my clients about their health and strength, I appreciate your holistic approach to wellness.
Thank u @Dr. Levi I am a Hair Stylist and carpal tunnel is a VERY COMMON injury in my profession! Along with many other long term issues. I currently do physical therapy twice a week and I see the chiropractor every 6 weeks JUST TO SURVIVE! I know a lot of my colleagues can't afford all of that so I like to share as much knowledge as I can with them. I will be sharing your channel and page on our Team chat! This video was just what I needed
Thanks for the video Dr. Levi Harrison. I have been playing for basketball for years and now I am getting constant pains in my both of my hands and wrists. I can't even give someone a fist bump or hold my phone for a couple of minutes without pain or numbness. On top of all this I am only 15 years old. My mother has carpal tunnel and hers began out of nowhere when she was 16, and it looks like mine has started as well within the past month. It sucks but it's something I'm gonna have to live with. (Also, completely unrelated, but I also have constant back pains due to bad posture and exercise over the years. I am also getting heartburn because that also runs through my family). No matter what I will continue to enjoy life though.
Thank you Dr. Levi for explaining the signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis. You did an awesome job as I had the nerve conduction test done today and I am anxiously awaking the results to see if I need surgery. I really appreciate the time you took to explain this to us. ☺️
I’m freaking 20 and have 2 jobs and my right hand and shoulder don’t let me sleep at night my hand feels hot I have to sleep without a pillow and have to keep turning and moving my hand bc it’s so hot I WORK AT A ICE CREAM SHOP I think it’s all the scooping that made it hurt I hate my life 😞
Yes. I had carpal tunnel symptoms, knots at the base of my neck, and severe headaches. Three vertebrae out of place in my neck. The same nerve in the wrist also runs into the spine. Chiropractor found and fixed it. Took a lot of visits, but I could tell the difference after a couple visits. Also affected my mood. Took nothing to really tick me off.
@@scotcoon1186 from what i saw în a video, carpal tunnel is on the inside of the wrist (back of the hand, middle) while tendonitis is rather on the outside of the wrist/arm. My pain is on the outside of the wrist on top but only on the inner side of the wrist (close to body side), i have it for about two weeks now, it is a continuous tension feeling plus sometimes the pain is very sharp when i twist my wrist, and for a day or two i can feel tension also în my thumb. Tendonitis would have similar treatment with carpal tunnel ?
Wrist and index finger tingling pains numbness had steroid injection and did not work I don't know what's going on with my hand fingertips are inflamed to
Dr. Levi my name is Andy and I am from San Antonio Texas and I want to thank you for the video because I've been depressed lately and thinking I may have carpal tunnel with no pain I have all the symptoms that you spoke of but without the pain and it is depressing when you lose the sensation of touch for a period of time because I don't know I just can't do things anymore I'm a gamer like to play the PlayStation now and then and those three main fingers thumb middle and index finger is what I use and all three of them are numb and half of my ring finger. Anyhow oh and if it helps it's on my left hand and I'm left-handed so go figure. But thank you for the clarification which helped my motivation and depression so I'm not as depressed as I was 5 minutes ago thank you again. One last thing, what I'm really worried about this how long will I not have sensation in those three fingers it's driving me crazy.?
I love your philosophy on marrying Eastern and Western medicine. I’m having pain in both hands every morning for the last two months, and now I’m starting to feel some numbness and tingling during the day. Would love to hear any thoughts you might have.
Can Carpal Tunnel Syndrome affect the elbow and shoulder too? I have pain, numbness and tingling in my elbow and shoulder joint at the same time my hands and fingers hurt. I am diabetic and it is worse at night. But mine mostly affects my pinkie and ring finger and occasionally my thumb.
Thank you 🙏❤❤❤💗💓 I can't see a doctor and I've had pain in my wrist from typing for a while and this is so helpful and you're so nice for sharing this info for free I want to cry 💞
Thank you, Dr. Levi. I am a 57 year old court reporter. I've been reporting for 37 years. Stiffness and pain has been slowly creeping into my hands over the last few years. Still not sure if tendinitis or carpal tunnel, but am going to try some of the stretching exercises and see if that alleviates some of the pain. Thanks again for your very informative video.
The first and only video I've ever seen that details a diagnosis between both of these, this has saved me an expensive office visit in a little over 8 minutes. Now I know I have tendonitis and not CTS so I can do all of the correct PT and not aggravate it even more.
Wow, I really appreciate you Dr Levi. You have great wisdom on really helping people 'heal'. Thank you for trying to encourage people to treat their problems as holistically as possible, that is very rare from what I've experienced. Keep up the good work. 😊
Personally, you are one of the smartest people I've known, not completely known ( Persona. ) but the way you talk and deliver your information has brought me that your intellect is very high and you use that in your medical degree and with that disposition, you have helped alot of people. I wish I could get more wisdom from you... - Mahalo!
I had a EMG done the only test they couldn't get to work was the shoulder test they said no nerve damage so I guess I didn't have CTS They said I have tendonitis I on occassion get tingling in my hands mainly after stretching is that normal? I get fairly depressed about it I try to do stretches but can't always at work I got it from computer use and playing super smash bros melee competitive.
I had a Metacarpal base fracture of 3rd and 4th Metacarpal after a direct blow to my knuckles in a motorcycle accident. I got PoP slabed for 3 weeks and then the doctor told me to do physical therapy. I have developed numbness on thumb , index and middle fingure , the bones as per the x ray are healed , but I also have pain at the intersection of thumb and index finger base when I try to use those two. Please tell me what it is, my doctor tells me to do exersices and doesn't tell me whats wrong...
I though I might have CTS but after watching this I don’t think I do. I am a piano player, and I have CTS like symptoms...on the outside of the pinky sometimes all the way up to my shoulder.... any thoughts????
I am a former gym instructor and use to lift weights. I have experienced wrist pain from doing push ups. I recommend push up bars to keep the wrist straight. I also recommend fist push ups over some cloth and not hard floor. The wrist is not strong enough to lift weights, it has no muscles.
I just came back from doc....I have CTS...I am dedicated to bodybuilding.,...from what I gather keeping wrist in neutral position is key...lots of stretching.....how do you do it please educate me if I miss something....I will start wearing brace to bed I put olive oil in my shake I will start taking ibuprofen.....help me if miss something
I got carpal tunnel syndrome - or at least I think that is what it is - from my RU-vid channel. It happened to me from holding a gimbal which might not have seemed heavy at the time but constantly filming with it seems to have done the damage. I have not used the gimbal in well over two years but I can still feel it.
Hi if you need more info to help with ur wrist, here’s this video it’s received a lot of positive feedback in the comments. I recommend! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fdD7CgN5FGg.html
I am an artist/painter with wrist tendonitis. This advice is good for us too. I'm kinda sad I can''t paint as much as I want, but I would rather not have hefty medical bills. Take care of yourself guys! :)
After watching this I realized that i have carpal tunnel on my left wrist and tendonitis on my right wrist. He was too accurate when he was naming all the signs and symptoms of the above conditions and ive had all of them :(( i am actually contemplating on the surgery but this video gave me such hope that it can still be resolved through conservative approach. Thank you Doc Levi.
What is it that I feel pressure/weight pushing down on my fingers especially middle & ring finger? Then most of my pain is up the inside of my forearm and can go into my shoulder. I was told I have “mild carpal tunnel syndrome” yet I really am in pain. I feel my hands are becoming claw-like. And I drop almost everything.
Thank you for the information! I've got tendinitis in the left wrist and now in my right due to gaming (Call of Duty) and lots of texting. I've found that stretching, icing and heat are helpful, but not long term. I'm now considering acupuncture. This all came about due to stress and planning a wedding. I played ours of Call of Duty due to the stress. Thanks so much for the information. Also, I'm using KT Tape and that helps, too.
DONT DO YOUR STRETCHES WHILST YOUR ARE CURRENTLY INJURED, you could further damage tendons/ligaments and set back your recovery. Once you are back to a healthy state then start training you ligaments and tendons to be more flexible.
I have had tendonitis for about 6 years. I do a lot of repetitive motion in factories I've just recently been diagnosed with bilateral carpal tunnel. The tendonitis went away I did a lot of stretches every day & therapy. I do Wonder though can tendonitis cause carpal tunnel ? He made it a little easier I noticed that he showed tendonitis is on the top your hands where the carpal tunnel is on the wrist area if I understood it correctly
@@patriciacollins2781 i have a pain for two weeks now it is mostly on the inner side of the wrist but i feel it on top of the wrist (arm) which means it's rather tendonitis and not carpal tunnel. When i was young i was an atletic person, and later on i went to gym about 3-4 times a week, butfor a year and a half now i don't do any exiercise other than walking. I gained weight of course în the last ten years, and i am în the process of moving back to Europe for a while just because my health got so bad în such a short time. I believe that extra weight comes from swelling/inflamation (although doctors said everything îs perfctly 'fine' with me..) only when i walk things get a little better, but i spend a lot of time resting, which îs probably not good for other organs în my body. We might call it tendonitis, carpal tunnel, etc but i think these joint issues are actually dependent on the inflamatory state în the body, at least this is my conclusion, and this is a lot more complex issue to deal with, it won't simply go away with exercises or injections, they can only treat the effect but not the cause.
I am so relieved to learn this is the source of my pain, I had pain in my hands and thought I might have rheumatoid arthritis! I recently got back into pc gaming and clearly overdid it. I will rest and exercise and hopefully it will improve
I work on an apple orchard, picking apples, gardening, weeding, picking up drop apples fast, etc and I've had nerve pain since last years fall harvest. Using a computer mouse especially hurts. I get elbow pain along with palm pain. And some tingling and pins/needles in some fingers. In my right wrist I've had ganglion cysts form a few times in the past atop my wrist in that cavity between index and middle finger in the wrist. I also gaming a little on PC, play piano/guitar/drums a bit. Just as I was typing I felt a nerve tingle in the middle bottom of my pinky finger. Which doesn't match carpal tunnel. I dunno if it's RSI, Carpal Tunnel, Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow... driving me nuts because I work with my hands, and play with my hands. Even holding a book (I read a lot), bothers me. Even holding my ereader bothers me at times.
thank you Levi, Tunnel or ten, Im a guitarist and Im getting a n electric nerve test next week Friday, about 2 and a half months since the left middle finger beacame noticably weaker in corresponce with other fings, I Do Love You, doc Levi, for your honesty.....🤔🤔😎😎
good info, splint, rest PT, anti inflam got it, thank you. please include musicians as a population that is affected by CT, i'm subscribed and will follow.
