In this video, we will break down what it's like to set up and use a co2 laser! No matter what laser you purchase the setup should be similar for this size laser. A lot of the smaller lasers come mostly assembled but may need minor adjustments. This Laguna Smartshop MX 100w needed a few things installed before we could get cutting as will most mid/large sized co2 lasers. Then we walk through the basics of Lightburn software to make our first engravings!
We went with the Laguna MX 100w laser based on bed size and the power of the laser. You do not have to buy a 100w laser it will just make cut times go a lot faster and typically they have a larger bed area. Laguna offers several laser sizes to fit your budget and I'll link to the one we have below.

What type of laser do you have? Was the set up similar and would you recommend that laser?

Man this came out at a GREAT time. Or perhaps I searched and found this at a great time. I am buying the exact same laser, and I'm trying to search the internet high and low for some suggestion and technique on setting it up. Hasn't even arrived yet. REALLY appreciate the video! Be well.

I know I am not the first but great job explaining everything. I am ready debating on cnc vs laser.
@TwoMooseDesign
@TwoMooseDesign 2 года назад
Thanks! I appreciate it. It really depends what you do or want to do. For lasers I’d just assume most of them will only be efficient around a 1/4” thick material for cutting. So if you plan on cutting stuff around 3/4” a Cnc may be better, but you also don’t have to clamp anything down with the laser. So if you only plan on messing with 1/4” materials then the laser is far easier. Another thing is price, laser are definitely more expensive. A laser under 60 watts will be way slower than a 100w machine for cutting and engraving. Good luck! I’ll have to do a video on that topic and comparing that specifically a little more

I have the same laser. Similar experience as you, it would have been easier if I viewed this video 2 months ago. Wi-fi set-up was a little harder just because I didn't really see any videos on that took me a while to figure out . I'm glad I did set it up that way it's supper convenient. Basically you have to setup the ip address to match between the laser and lightburn software but not your wifi . I setup the ip address to be 10 digits different than my home ip. Then you have to switch your wifi to the TP Link wifi. Basically it will run on that dedicated link if that makes sense. Love your channel . Hope it makes sense.

I tried like 3 times and I couldn’t get it, Jess tried and got it right away 😆 I don’t even know what I was doing wrong, I just couldn’t get it to connect in light burn. But yeah the cable is annoying once you get it figured out

The Epilog came pretty much ready to go. No mirror alignment - tube already installed. I plugged in the machine, set up the exhaust, connected a tube and air compressor for air assist, downloaded their driver and was lasering. Does the laguna not have a home at like 0-0 for x and y?

@@TwoMooseDesign Thank you. I was getting ready to pull the trigger and purchase this, but need to cut at least 48 inches at times and I don’t have the space for the EX. A company rep said the MX does have a pass through slot on the front, so I wasn’t sure if it’s like the Mira 9 where you take the work out and turn it around for the pass through. Without seeing it in action, I don’t want to buy it because it’s too expensive to arrive and not work as I was expected. My search continues!

Tell me about the size of this beast when it showed up. I'm having a hard time communicating with the shipping company about the details. It's currently in my state, CO, and about 60 miles away. If I had a truck and fork I would actually drive to Denver to get it. Were they able to lift gate it or did you have to forklift it? The reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out if I need to rent a forklift ASAP or if they will be able to lift gate and bring it to the threshold of my shop via a crate jack.
@TwoMooseDesign
@TwoMooseDesign 2 года назад
We were able to unload it with a pallet jack off the truck with the lift gate. It was tricky but we did get it off and in the shop. This is the MX the EX would definitely need a forklift

@@TwoMooseDesign My friend your feedback about the laser crating has been worth the laser's weight in gold. Usually I have a pretty good sense of what stuff will weigh and how it will be shipped/delivered. I work at a local Woodcraft and have done woodworking now for about 28 years, most of it on the lathe, but this new laser adventure has been..........interesting.
