I've been A-A-Ron for 5 months. Tomorrow I have a small biathlon, first one for me in open sea. As long as I finish it I will be EXTREMELY happy!! Thank you for all your videos. Un abrazo amigo.
Your videos keep getting better and better. I love how you explain the physics of swimming, a subtle subject because it is not so obvious as in other sports practiced outside the water.
I watched your video a week ago and started practicing your method. Today I shaved an average of 10 seconds off each 100 yards and was less tired than I typically am. This method feels intuitive. Thank you for breaking into down into understandable pieces.
Your videos are so helpful! Just started swimming recently and want to become a more confident & efficient swimmer. I love the "trial and error" examples - it usually takes a few tries to get the hang of these techniques.
I am 32 and can swim but never learned how to swim the right way. I have just started to taught my self the right way by watching your videos. Very helpful and very informative video content. It's almost been two weeks now and I can say that I am improving and noticing the difference. Thank you so much.
Very insightful. I discovered most of these techniques by copying movements from olympic swimmers and by understanding dynamic apnea breathing and posture principles, along with adding simple physics such as 'drag'. When I started swimming again in 2006 after a yearlong break, I did all the wrongs: low angle hips, heavy kicking and head out of the water. Nowadays I hardly use my legs at all while sprinting in front crawl. The pull buoy really helped me out. To stay frosty, I always include a few 'slow' lanes in what I call the "lazy crawl": a front crawl where I let myself glide out for as long as possible in between each stroke. This idea came from dynamic apnea and applying it in my front crawl magnifies the small mistakes that you make. As my aikido sensei once said: many can do it fast, but can you do it slow? That's where you give your imperfections enough time to show themselves. Besides that, it is also very relaxing to do a 'lazy crawl'. I heard of a guy in my province who swims around a small island regularly, and often almost falls asleep while doing his 'lazy crawl'.
I'm new at swimming and I always lose concentration trying to find optimal kick rate. It's very tough. Anyways, great video and looking forward for the next one!
I may only wish and cry this video was not up there when I started learning the free style some 60 years back😢 Via mostly a brute force approach, I got the style good enough not to be laughed out of a pool and even praised by an instructor or two but only now at 78 I pain to see how much there still is left to work on. Legs, legs legs. This is an invaluable public service and personally, I cannot thank you enough. (But I still thank you a million) ❤❤❤
This is a great video and I like it a lot. I also like the one stroke kick, but I have two versions of that kick: the sharp kick that turns the body and propels (which you demonstrate beautifully) and the softer kick that just turns the body, but provides no propulsion. If I want to swim with _minimum_ energy, perhaps for swimming a very long time, no racing, then I find myself using that softer kick or no kick at all. The title of your video is "Is it really easier to kick less?" and the answer to that is a resounding yes. When using a no-kick stroke, I don't use speed to drag the legs back up, like you suggest in the video, but instead I change my balance - by keeping my arms forward and down. With this balance and the most minimal speed it's entirely possible to swim without kicking and to be efficient. Though, despite this, I might still use the single soft kick, because the rotation of the body really helps drive the arms and reduce their energy outlay. Great video - one of the best on this topic.
I have learnt and am learning a lot from Your Best Swimming Techniques Tutorial Videos..and have been applying those techniques as much as possible while swimming. Nicest and kindest work you have done & provided to us at no cost..!! What else we need. ?!?! I pray to my Lord Swaminarayan for your all good. 👍
I've been struggling with many aspects of swimming from my beginning at january 2023 r. when I decided to start swimming trainings in order to start in triathlon events. Due to my achilles tendon seriuos injury I was forced to reschedule my first start for the next year, and hontestly it was great decision puttng aside injury. Why? Because after 8 months of trainings i'm still not able to swim long distances without be exhausted so fast... I'm quite good cyclist with near 375W FTP with 87kg BW, good runner, but when it comes to swimming.... no comments. Ive got personal coach, but he can not solve my problems especially with breathing. I think that's the crucial problem for me, and the next matter is a body position. So i'm so glad for finding your channel, I've watched so many episodes and I got new enegy and motivation for practicing swimming! I've got hope... no, I'm sure that It'll help me in short time to fight with my weaknesses :) Thanks!
I have subscribed to a number of swimming channels for several years and this is by far the most jammed packed and useful training video or series. Great job.
thanks so much for the videos! im trying to shave off at least a minute from my 400m to qualify as a lifeguard but i only have two months-- at the end of my first week practicing and learning from you i already feel a lot more confident in the water B)
This channel is so good! I can see you put a lot of effort in each video, this material is gonna last forever. Very high quality content. Thank you so much for all this information, I just started swimming and already learned a lot thanks to you. Swim fast!
Your videos are very appreciated and seem to be focusing on what will help me. I swim with arms only put my legs don't always stay high in the water. How static muscles control contributes to better balance is an area I focus on. Thanks and keep your great vidoes coming.
Your 'arrow freestyle' video helped me with freestyle technique after not swimming at all since I was a teen. After 9 months of 3-5 times a week swimming I can go a full hour at 35s/25m with maybe a 5 minute break halfway through. The technique feels so smooth and looks cool as hell :D (also while i'm here thanks for breaststroke pull, kick, glide video!)
Im prepare my iron man for 6 weeks follow your advise..6 weeks from like aron until i able to complete my first triathlon..thanks bro and keep it up..may allah guide you to the straight path
One benefit of kicking that you didn't mention is that it helps stabilize your body when rotating. Which means less effort for the core and glutes and better endurance. That's why I always kick at the very moment I'm rotating.
Thanks!!! I am really thankful for all information that it is helping me to improve my technique, you really has gave us a really value information, all those point are just real and effective, have a great journey
Thank you, you’re videos are so helpful and cool, extremely well edited and exciting evrytime. I’m learning so much and enjoying swimming again, thanks to your inspiration 🙏🏽☘️❤️
Gaaaahdamnnn this is an eye-opener! It's definitely not an easily attainable skill since it requires a lot of practise and repetition, but it shows the science of becoming an fast swimmer and why swimmers are so dedicated to master the technique. Superb channel --- SUBCRIBED!
I’ve noticed one very interesting thing here 9:20, the timeing of your breathing is different as 90% of what I’ve seen, you actually rotate your face to breath in while your right hand - the same hand to which side you breathing, is in the propulsion and left hand is straight infront of you, my timeing is exact oposite, I am breathing to the right side while my left arm is in propulsion and my right hand goes out of water, now as I trying it just in my room it makes much more sence the way you doing it 🤔 because while I am breathing in an as my left arm is in propulsion while I am with my body on the side, my left arm tends to go over center line of my body which makes me swim in curve to the right, Today I just thought about this why am I swiming in curve, your videos are best here on youtube 🫡 👍🏼
Best advice I ever heard for keeping feet elevated was from a coach from Speedo, I think, "Suck in your gut like you are trying to put your belly button on your spine." Your swimming model here has an arch in his back, small, but still an arch. Getting rid of that arch, by tightening the abs is huge, at least for me. I have that old guy 'dunlaps', like the tire, or spare tire, disease, "your belly done laps over your belt." Never have been able to feel tightening of the glutes and back while swimming. Tightening up the back muscles can add to this arch in the lower back. 3 mile swim coming up today! Side stroke rules, breast stroke drools!
I am literally doing the Cozumel Ironman in a month. I have watched your previous aero swim technique video. I guess I will have to modify my kicking for that longer distance haha. This is very timely.
im improving my swimming techniques through this series. im able to swim freestyle better than before. thank you for this insightful videos. It is also not complex and easily understandable from a beginner point of view. keep it up!
If you struggle with high HR and getting tired too fast you may read my long story about kicking. I am a somewhat mediocre swimmer, and my problem in freestyle was always high heart rate (155-165 after 100m). Watched a ton of videos, also did some training with a coach, but nothing helped. Coach said that my freestyle looked ok, and I should gain some strength to reduce my HR (which is fair because I’m pretty skinny). Most of the videos on the other hand focus on kicking less (2-beat kick), so I pretty much took it as granted and never tried anything else. The other day I was so desperate so I tried all of the unlikely possibilities. That included getting rid of 2-beat kick and switching to constant and relaxed kicking. And weirdly enough my HR instantly went down to 140-145. I have no idea what’s the deal with that, possibly it’s due to the fact that when you do 2-beat kick your kick 1) becomes very “pronounced” and has a lot of effort in it so that your lower body can stay near the surface and 2) you must consciously think of your kick to match the stroke (for me at least), and it eats some of your attention, and therefore can harm your technique in other places. When I switched to constant (but relaxed, which is very important!) kicking I’m no longer actively thinking of what my legs are doing. The kicking for me just does it’s job - keeping my lower body near the surface.
Stretch your body out as far as you can from fingertip to toe. When you stroke don't spin your arms like a windmill, rather scoop the water downwards underneath you and rock your body from side to side. Try to lift your body out of the water with every stroke. You move faster through air than you do through water. Get the form down and you wont need to use your legs like a motorboat, hence ^
brilliant video/ seen the longer version too. but just one question. If Aaron must learn to swim the correct way, taking months of hard work, and since you love to mention his name every few seconds which is sweet, how much longer do you need to say his name correctly? lol its not Aay Ron! lol!
Hi there, First of all, really love your channel. I discovered it recently and love the way you explain the technique. I'm just a lay person trying to master the freestyle so that I can do endurance training. I watched this video some days ago and then tried the breathing exercises and kick drills from your other videos before I began doing laps. That definitely helped a lot ! I did find kicking just twice very tricky, especially using the arm and leg from the same side as you demonstrated. Tough to find a rhythm, but I guess it comes with practice. Coming to my question: Isn't the kick supposed to help maintain the body's horizontal line? If I kick less, it feels a bit harder to maintain that line, especially after I take a breath -- my back tends to arch and the horizontal line becomes a bit of a u-shaped line instead. What might I be doing wrong here? Would love some guidance, will practice it out in the pool. Love from India! 🇮🇳💛🙏
This is my 5th week practicing and consistency helps a lot. Just me being in the water becoming more confident in how to breathe has helped a lot. These videos do all the rest. Im prepping for my first sprint triathlon
Gracias por tu trabajo en este canal. Aprendo mogollón con ellos y aplico cada vez que voy a la piscina o nado en algún lago. Estoy trabajando con la respiracion y la coordinación con la patada. Aaron is an amazing student🙃
