You need a very special type of charisma to be a poker dealer. You have to learn how to deal with people in a reasonable way without being "mean". People show thier true colors when they start losing money. If you can handle it..... yes it is deff worth it. I love it. It can also be very fun at times.

I love playing poker. I had great runs with triple to quadruple up or more than my original buy in(s)... but I had ate up tons of doggone losses... I had to 'learn' to not be a sore loser and crybaby as I done earlier in my poker playing careers. Yes, learning to not be a sore loser and or a overly proud sore winner either matters for many regular cash and tournament poker games. Building experiences to be at your very best on behaviors to react on losses&wins are worthy goal to accomplish in this civilized game of pokers!

How do both players and the floor respond to dealers that talk and try to promote a fun atmosphere for the people at the table?
@michaelhaley1612
@michaelhaley1612 Год назад
@@wesleykorisky8600 Well this is going to vary depending on the room, and the table. The places where I have worked players tip you more if you're good at your job and you can hold a conversation at the same time because you get a good repour. There are also the "shutup and deal" players, but thank god they aren't the majority. Most the time as long as you can pay attention well and do your job correctly and quickly you won't be bothered because you are having a conversation. That being said I'm sure there are rooms where the floors are just outright talk nazis and they don't want you interacting with players at all, but i feel like that would make everything worse for the dealer. You want to be fun and friendly as much as you can.

I recently passed audition at a local casino. Working overnights and it's great!! Used to bartend when I was younger. Not much different, just fewer drunk people. @RoadTripzz14

@@davidginchereau Also in school. Yes it is difficult / challenging. We just had a student audition for WSOP. He passed on Zoom and was offered a job at approximately $45 / hour. His friend went home with $20,000 after working as a dealer for 7 weeks at last year’s WSOP in Las Vegas. In Scottsdale / Phoenix where I live I am told by multiple currently working poker dealers and my school’s instructors that if I am proficient I should make $250 - $300 for a full night’s work. Variance is because of tips being the bulk of earnings. I don’t have the job offer sheet in front of me but I think the casino offers a base of $10.50 / hour. Which I would not work for - Amazon here starts at almost double. So we are largely working for the players.

I just paid for dealing school & start at the beginning of December. I nvr considered the wear & tear on the body. I’m relatively healthy/ in shape. I run on a daily basis. How bad is the back pain/ wrist pain & is it a guaranteed to come w dealing in time? That’s something that is concerning to me. Also, any tips/ advice going into dealing school? For context, I’m very familiar with Texas Hold ‘em but not rly any of the other game types. Thx in advance for any responses.
@truepokerdealer
@truepokerdealer 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the great comment! So not everyone experiences the wear and tear. It has mostly to do with how many hours you work per week, and how clean your technique is. I personally recommend 32 hours per week or less to more or less guarantee that you won't run into wear and tear issues. You can do more with good technique, but if you do, make sure to take a week off here and there. I do know some people who have been working 50+ hours per week for 10+years. If your technique is good then your body can do it. As for advice going into dealing school, I would keep in mind that the goal while in school is to make it feel like poker when you are in the dealer chair. Like it's good to be in class and learn and do reps, but you really really want it to feel like you are dealing real hands of poker in your audition and focusing on that in school is a great way to get that result. Another thing to keep in mind is that your peers in the school are likely people who will become dealers too. Some of them will become supervisors, and maybe even room managers one day. Creating good relationships with them can really be valuable for you in life. I suggest working together to help one another and creating that culture in the classroom as opposed to competing and trying to succeed at their expense like some people do. And last piece of advice is to go above and beyond the hours they expect so that you can be sure you are good enough to pass the audition. A typical poker dealer school is 100 hours or so and while you can certainly pass an audition and get a job as a dealer, you have a much better chance if you work on your craft even more. I hope that helped you! Best of luck on your journey! Maybe I'll see you in Dallas one day!

@@truepokerdealer First & foremost, thank you for the response! I appreciate you taking the time to write out all the info/advice to help me out. I have been devouring your videos & trying to get some practice in before I start my schooling. Still struggling w learning how to riffle shuffle as well as pitching - I think it will come in time. I have spoken w a few dealers & they tell me that eventually itll "just click" & will become second nature. Your videos are very helpful & informative. I am going to continue watching your videos & practicing forming & getting better at the craft of dealing. Thank you again for the response! I plan on eventually making it out to Texas. Doug Polk is my favorite poker player & he co owns a card room in Austin so eventually would like to make it out there - either as a player or maybe a dealer. Hope all is well on your end & you have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Yr. Cheers!

600-1k take doesn't sound like that much too me. However in LA area , pokers dealers out here make a lot more then that. Some are easily making over 120k a year easily id say. And some who work in the private games high stakes are probably making more around 200k+ easily. - Professional poker player.

I live in Montana. I have studied psychology most of my life. I'm very adept and confident when it comes to confrontation and people being shitty. The physical aspect does not bother me as I've done physical work most of my life. I'm going to subscribe and pay for all your lessons, but my question is, how do dealers fair in different geographical locations? Is it worth it to start dealing in a place like Montana? From what I'm told, our state is very short handed on dealers after covid. Would love to hear both of your thoughts. Thanks for the amazing videos starting me on this journey!
@truepokerdealer
@truepokerdealer 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment! I think dealing poker in Montana would be more pleasant than Florida. For what it's worth, Jaz has become happier dealing poker since she moved to Dallas, Tx. I also think the money in Montana will depend on the room and how many games they get. As a general rule of thumb, you make $25-$40+ per hour as a poker dealer. That basically translates to about $15-$20 per table you deal (each table lasts 30 minutes in most rooms) That's pretty consistent across poker rooms with a decent table mix. I know the population in montana isn't that high, so I imagine there will be fewer games. I think it will still be worth it but it's hard to tell without having spent time out there playing or working.

If a player goes in on you, this is how you handle it. Deal them out the next hand. When they lose their mind, call the floor over. Floor asks what’s going on. You tell them that the player either said A) whatever it was that was disrespectful or B) deal me out. The floor should then ask the player what he/she said. The player will be forced to say the disrespectful thing, to the floor, or that he/she told you to deal them out. Problem solved.

Dealer abuse should be a mandatory straddle or sit out for a round
@truepokerdealer
@truepokerdealer Год назад
Sometimes it actually happens to players in tournaments where that results in them missing a round. In cash games it isn't really a penalty unless the players pay time. If there is a rake, you aren't really penalizing them. As for making it a mandatory straddle, it is good in theory, but it would be hard to enforce with the proper integrity. So many players would be blind sided by that rule since poker rules are so different from room to room, and there is something that I just can't say yes to in boobytrapping players in a way that costs them money before the cards are dealt.

I've dealt poker and I've worked in a number of trades and all of the trades are much more physically demanding and punishing than dealing poker. There's no comparison really. The hardest part about dealing poker isn't the physical toll at all; it's putting up the players. There are a lot of really soft people dealing poker.
@truepokerdealer
@truepokerdealer 8 месяцев назад
@@timorthelame1 Haha it's possible that Jaz is a bit soft (but don't tell her I said that!) When teaching on RU-vid, I tend to lean on the side of caution. The last thing I want is to encourage someone to be a poker dealer and then they end up working 40 hours a week and it's too much for them and they're in a situation where they have to keep working that much to support themselves and it's too hard on their body. Because of that, I tell people that I recommend closer to 30 hours per week and they should easily be able to pay their bills and have extra money with 30 hours per week. And then if they want more they can work more hours. I personally just worked about 100 hours in 11 days. I do that every once in a while. I couldn't do that long term but I certainly can from time to time! And my body feels fine. Legs were a little stiff but overall great.

The biggest problem for dealers is that after a while they start playing …and then whatever they make stays in Casinos!
@truepokerdealer
@truepokerdealer 10 месяцев назад
Not going to deny that this is a problem for some people. It can go either way. For some people who love playing poker, dealing poker makes them considerably better. I did an interview with a poker pro where we talked about how valuable it is to deal poker and range people hand after hand while you're there getting paid. But the other side of the coin is that some poker dealers pick up the habit of gambling at poker and they do not learn a winning strategy. They become comfortable around the game and they learn how to be at the table. I always suggest new poker dealers be intentional with their newfound extra income and come up with a plan in advance for their disposable income.
