Question: I really enjoyed Alex's breakdown of manager success by position and found his manager XI interesting. Could we get a statistical breakdown of each manager he chose for his XI and why he chose them?
I would like to know where the coaches and their idols were born and how it influenced their coaching philosophies and I would like it to be represented in and audio visual scattergram in 30 seconds. Thank you Alex please get to it🙏🏽.
I feel it'd make a good Podcast episode for the Foootball Cliche's team. They do a lot of XI's videos for various situations afterall. Usually include a lot of fun insight and history to their picks too.
as someone who's never actually heard the 'construction noises' , how can we be sure they arent an example of collective psychosis? might this explain the slowly changing style of the show?
Since Tom Worville escaped the scattergram and joined RB Leipzig, their results and league position have improved significantly. How much of this is correlation, how much is causation and what measures should you take to ensure Mark Carey doesn't escape too?
Question: Antonio Conte recently said that Eric Dier is "one of the best defenders in the league" and, in December 2021, said that he can become "one of the best defenders in the world." And Jose Mourinho famously admired Dier greatly. Almost no regular football fans would give Dier so much credit, so are we being unfair to him?
Having watched most spurs games I’d even argue that his mistakes leading to goals would have to be in the high 90 percentiles, he doesn’t make many at all
@@Smitdogz ....dang that's a good point on mistakes vs mistakes leading to goals, as usually I watch Dier and think he is rubbish. I still think he is BUT you've got me thinking there. Frankly I feel Spurs need a new back line except Reguilón and perhaps Romero (haven't seen enough to know due to his injury). Dier has definitely improved though.
Question: We often hear about the dribbley bois (Zaha, Grealish etc) being the most fouled players as teams try to reduce their effectiveness but who is the LEAST fouled attacking outfield player? I'd love it to be a Pirlo-esq player just gliding around the pitch constantly finding space away from defenders.
I think a defensive fullback is going to be fouled the least… maybe also a holding striker Now read attacking players so a holding striker is my guess think Giroud
sorta kinda. He had attributes in terms of ball retention and progressive passing that were key to Poch's style. But he was also VERY injury prone, and did not score as many goals as he should. I would posit that Eriksen was probably more important and consistent
Respect. I truly think Joelinton is becoming a modern goat of the game. The awareness and passing ability he shows from game to game is truly unmatched. I think 8 years from now he will be an 8 time winner of the Ballon dor and truly cement himself in the football hall of fame.
Love Joeli! Could you answer next week whether the resurgence of Xavi's Barcelona is something ominous on the horizon for European football? Can they challenge for major honours already?
Tbf this real Madrid team is being given a bit too much credit for beating PSG ; PSG dominated both legs for 85% of the tie just fell apart completely. Benzemas brilliance kinda glosses over alot of the teams deficiencies (despite being way better than last year). That said barca still dominated them one of the best barca displays I've seen in years. This is a youngish barca team with alot of potential but I still feel if they come up against a complete team like liverpool city or bayern they'd get ripped to shreds
until they properly fix their financial situation? probably not. Don't be fooled by their dismantling of Real Madrid.. god only knows what was going on in Carlo's head last night with his bizarre team selection and formation.
People can’t forget that Joelinton becoming a deeper midfielder cam first against Norwich as Newcastle were down to 10 men after Clark was sent off and that meant joelinton had to play a mixture of a ball winning midfielder and also try and push up the wing to support ASM and Wilson upfront. Howe has done brilliantly to notice his true potential as a free flowing ball winning midfielder
Question: Historically, which type of club has been more successful overall: clubs that go through a lot of managers, or clubs that hold onto managers for a longer?
Joelintons is such a powerhouse. So strong and energetic. His workrate and teams spirit is off the charts. Try to watch him closely when the PL starts.
With the introduction of greatly increased positional flexibility of how modern teams play football (for example Liverpool's right hand side trio of TAA, Henderson and Salah), what do you feel is the possibility of the sport reaching the point where most, if not all, 10 outfield players are trained in such a way that they have the ability to rotate with almost anyone on the pitch?
Ye I was gonna reply saying they did it in the 70s but someone beat me to it. It's the biggest inspiration for Johan cruyffs playing philosophy and it's direct evolution can be said to be tiki taka. It was revolutionary at the time cuz it was the antithesis to the strongest tactic at the time the Italians catenaccio which relied on total positional obedience and was very defensive. I'm 70% certain it's acc a tifo video I remember this from lol
What has changed with Kai Havertz? He has looked like a completely different forward as of recent, scoring significantly more. Is he just in form, more confident, or does something else back this up?
Havertz put on a bit of muscle during the summer. there’s nothing in his play style that has changed tho. But he is a lot more tenacious than last season. I think the Lukaku signing put a chip on his shoulder
Man I think that's the first time Seb's been on camera! Nice change of pace seeing him breakdown tactics at the board Alex and JJ are so quick and want to show the tactics, but I thought Seb was very deliberate and took the time to paint the image of what the little circles represented. Great work to the whole Tifo team, as always!
Would you guys be able to analyze any Libertadores fixtures/teams at some point during the season? I think I'm not alone in saying I'd love to see a bit more South American football on the channel! Cheers from Brazil!
Hi lads. Your stats for Joelinton are not separated according to his position on the pitch. So his "touches in the penalty area" etc. are bound to greatly exceed the average DM if half the stats are for games where he was playing up front. You should pony up for a Statsbomb or OPTA subscription and get the position-specific numbers! In case anyone is wondering, I am an NUFC and Joelinton (as a midfielder) fan.
About the Peter Crouch Van Der Vaart partnership. Out of Van Der Vaart’s 13 non penalty goals the only season they played together, the first 4 were all played down by Crouch for Van Der Vaart to finish off, however in total they only got 6 together (which is still very impressive)
Please can you answer/dissect this: To make the FA cup incredible again: change the Champions League Qualification from the Premier League to 3 places rather than 4. And give the Winner of the FA cup the 4th Champions League spot. In the event that the winner of the FA cup finishes in the top 3 in the prem, then the 4th placed team in the Premier League would get the Champions League Qualification place. Thanks!!
or just make Conference League qualification a reward for winning the Cup. This would incentivize smaller, and dare I say it, Championship clubs take it way more seriously. But maybe I just miss the Cup Winners Cup
Would be interested in research around the importance of ambidexterity and its quantification. I feel like being equally good with both feet can open up a player's game exponentially, given shooting/passing/dribbling options that become available with more angles at a player's disposal and therefore the added number of dimensions that opponents need to consider.
Question: Can we have a breakdown of all teams in the current PL top 6 and find out the points per pound of each team in terms of money Spent on Transfer and wages.
I've got an unusual question- as a Palace fan I was told we had "an easy run to the semi final" and it made me wonder - and I'll put this in caps for effect DO FA CUP WINNERS TEND TO HAVE "EASY" RUNS TO THE FINAL?
Question: With Divock Origi reportedly close to joining AC Milan, could you discuss his over-all play style and qualities, as well as how he would fit at Milan. As a Serie A fan who is not super familiar Liverpool or the Prem currently, I find it hard to gauge his current abilities and skill level because he plays so little. Thanks!
As a Liverpool supporter I have to say I'll miss him if he goes, but he deserves more game time IMHO he's a decent striker, works hard, great first touch, he's a little inconsistent but that could come with more game time and his shooting/finishing can be a bit wayward But he always seems to pop up and score when you need him the most, been super sub for us so many times, doesn't score much for Liverpool but when he does it's almost always a crucial goal/game. Give him regular game time and I think he'll be a good signing Just my twopenneth anyway!
We hear a lot these days that the classic "Target Man" will come back into fashion. But how likely is it really? Will we see a team win the Premier League with this style soon?
Two questions 1. Can Mark Carey enter a normal distribution curve? 2. Can normal distribution curves be used to assess the efficiency of a subset of players (such as attacking value of strikers in the EPL)?
Is Joel Matip underrated as a Centre Back in Europes top 5 leagues? I genuinely think if he wasn’t so injury prone or had a bit more pace he could be considered as one of the best in his position although he is having an outstanding 21/22 season
The Eric Andre vibes coming off of this show are amazing. I never thought those two important worlds would meet (Football, Eric Andre) but I am so glad that they have. Also, Dog as pig.
question: what would football look like if instead of points, teams won based on goal difference in the table? would it change the formations used to prioritise scoring more goals or would the focus be on defence?
If i were to choose a goalkeeper/coach, i would probably go with Rogério Ceni. Kind of an unknown in world football since he only played in Brazil, but he was a world champion (2002) and was a prety solid keeper
What changed in the Istanbul 2005 final that allowed liverpool to make that comeback? Was it tactical or just momentum, luck and of course Steven Gerrard?
Question: If you had 10 points to assign to make up a footballer with the following traits, what would be the ideal mix? Pure raw talent Professionalism and work ethic Dumb luck (injuries etc) Eg. Pogba Talent 5, working 3, luck 2
Question: If Ten hag or Potechino come into man utd as manager; and they have the time and money to buy & sell players- how could United line up next season?
Question: What is the difference between clubs that leads to excellent or mediocre scouting. EG - Liverpool bringing in Luis Diaz compared to Chelsea bringing in Lukaku. Is it stats vs old school vs team composition or coach influence?
I’m 95% sure Joe Devine is doing a comedic bit, but he gives me Michael from the office vibes in terms of his leadership. (Maybe even king Julien)The other 5% the possibility that this is actually how he is😂😂 and it’s so worrying it keeps me up at night
Question: What's the deal with Mino Raiola? How many players does he represent? How did he get to be *the* big money agent? How much does he make each year? How much do teams hate dealing with him?
I thought Joelinton’s first appearance in midfield was against Norwich when Newcastle went down to 10 men early on? Hence it makes me wonder how deliberate or accidental his move to midfield was? Even so - great to see some decent analysis of him.
