There's literally just no player like him, even in the academy lol. I have a feeling next season Xavi will change his tactics and use a double pivot, instead of moving one of the full backs into that slot. I can see Kessie and De Jong playing that position well together since both did/do it for their previous teams. Then there's Nico who suits that formation well also and even Gavi could play well there.

Question: Historically teams haven’t had a huge amount of success just stockpiling the best players in the world, PSG being a great example. (There are some obvious exceptions to this rule). Why doesn’t this method work? And what’s the best team of the best players that could actually work tactically ?
@andrew7taylor
@andrew7taylor 2 года назад
Because when a team of world class players play in a league levels below them so that they don't even have to break a sweat to win matches and the whole league, then those guys will get used to winning easily. But no team can be that much better than all the teams in the knockout stages of the Champions League. And if PSG never needed to be extremely motivated, work hard and concentrate for 90 minutes to win Ligue 1, then how could they suddenly learn those skills?
@KindredBrujah
@KindredBrujah 2 года назад
@@andrew7taylor Decent idea, but I think it goes further than that. If you've been brought to a team because you're a superstar, you have certain expectations about how you'll play. When _everyone_ is a superstar, those expectations are impossible to meet because they will inevitably create conflict through the squad. So, either players don't get what they want and are unhappy so play badly or they play badly because they're not playing the way they prefer. In either case they will generally underperform. That might be enough to beat most domestic sides (and even that's not a given; Lille are the current Ligue 1 champions, after all), but it's definitely going to get found out at the top level. Look at the sides doing the best in Europe right now and it's not all superstars by any stretch. Most of Liverpool's players are canny acquisitions bought to fulfil a specific purpose. Many didn't really flourish at all in their former teams. Even Man City, more superstar-oriented than Liverpool for sure, have a few players who, despite being exceptional, are very level-headed along with it (De Bruyne being the primary example).

Mc NIcholas doesn't know what he is talking about. 1)Granit is one of our better midfielders. Him and partey get the best out of each other. But 2)he's also a player that can transition us quick particularly with his range of passing. 3)He can switch the point of attack for us. Particularly form flank to flank but also with quick through passes 4)He is also flexible to cover at Cback and Lback if need be. Which means he is positionally sound and discipline. 5)He also in addition generates a lot of turnovers and intercepts which many prefer not to see. 6)He is also strong in the air which helps defensively in particular. As per usual most commentators on Xhaka prefer to see the ills and miss the positives that are there. They simply do not know what they are looking at.

@MikeHunt117
@MikeHunt117 2 года назад
It depends on the team and the player Is a CB who plays in a high line for a bundesliga team (which a lot of them do) going to translate well to playing for Burnley? Probs not. What about for a team like Liverpool who play a high line? Probs That’s a real simple example but that’s how it goes Imo
@kiweping5
@kiweping5 2 года назад
@@MikeHunt117 yes an no, in general the PL is very high paced, whereas the Serie A, is very slow paced. A player also has to adjust to the opposing teams as well as it’s own. A player may be too slow for the PL, or may try to rush things in the Serie A. So it’s kind of difficult to tell how a player will do being transferred between the leagues. This isn’t too mention the fact that weather plays a part too. Going from sunny Spain and Italy, to cold and gloomy Manchester or Newcastle can have massive effects on the players performance, as the saying goes “but can they do it on a cold windy night in stoke”.

I listened to the song at 1.5x speed and it sounded like a very aggressive speed metal song. I liked it.

Very interesting take on what Xhaka actually does for Arsenal. Whilst James might have made him sound a bit more viable to the unsuspecting fan, the fact remains that any CDM worth their salt can do exactly what Xhaka does just as well, if not better. Being physically fit and available is a basic requirement of any footballer in any position. Some are more injury prone than others, but Xhaka is by no means as durable as say Declan Rice (only missed 2 league games this season so far), for example. Dropping back to cover the wing back is a simple task that he doesn't actually do all that well. He will often get caught out by his lack of pace and/or his inability to win the ball firm but fairly; his sending off in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool being my most recent recollection of this. As for playing a good forward ball, this would seem to be his best attribute. But unfortunately, due to Arteta's preference for wanting to attack via the wings, Xhaka's forward passes are often diagonal balls or ones that offer no goal scoring opportunity. Even an out of form of Pogba is able to thread a better through ball than Xhaka. Taking all of the above into account, Xhaka's negative qualities impact his game far more than the positives he brings to the table. He has been labeled Mr. Liability for a reason and has cost Arsenal more points than one should expect from a team looking to get back into the Champion's League. Desire to want the ball is not enough at the top level. Your team need to have confidence that when you get the ball you will relieve pressure, not induce it. So my answer to what exactly Granit Xhaka does: He creates vulnerabilities via his lack of reading a situation, coupled with his desire to make an impact, resulting in bad tackles and bookings/suspensions. As much as it hurts me to say it, his likelihood of a mistake makes him considerably less of an asset to our club than a player like Højbjerg is for those lot down the road, and why he is still here I will never know.

Can you actually prove that his negatives outweigh his positives with actual data and not just word salad?
@jondoe-du2fr
@jondoe-du2fr 2 года назад
@@hegeliandianetik2009 (Not sure why my initial reply didn't post.) Either way, essentially what I said was: If you actually comprehend what I wrote, you will understand that Xhaka's positives are expected for his midfield role and he doesn't actually do anything better than most other Prem midfielders in a similar position. At no point did I say he does more negatives than positives. I'm saying that it's his "likelihood of a mistake" that has a more detrimental impact on the team more often than not, thus making him a huge liability. If you've watched Xhaka play then you will know what I mean by the fouls, passes or penalties that he gives away or the sending offs that put pressure on the team. But if it is data you are after, then please feel free to use a search engine to look up _'Xhaka mistakes leading to goals'_ and feast on the results. Spoiler alert - Xhaka tops the list of erroneous Prem players since he joined us. Also, some of the links even have user comments that corroborate what I'm saying, if you need more dressing ;)

The fact that Wan Bissaka still plays like a Palace defender years after leaving is a damning indictment on the coaching at Utd

With 5 subs now being the norm, is is possible to have a tactical combination on the bench and send them out as a unit. for example starting the game with a fluid front three and if that is not working sending out a big powerful tall striker with a great crosser of the ball to change the complexion of the game? Will that realistically happen?

I feel like that would only be a strategy able to be properly used by big teams with the budgets for large squads. The only issue with that is that these big teams will be looking so sign technically excellent players who’ve got a bit of versatility to their game. So I’d imagine that a tactical change with just one substitution would be the norm. For your proposed scenario, perhaps just that tall striker would come off the bench, but wide players that would be talented at crossing would be already on the pitch, and would have practiced crosses in training.

Question: I have noticed that certain teams have started to play a sort of: 5 at the back without the ball, 4 at the back with the ball. Most notably Chelsea, so much so that Thomas Tuchel played Reece James (commonly played as a right wing back) as the right sided centre back of the 3 against Crystal Palace. Could you please go into detail about how teams can shift between shapes and how it gives them a tactical advantage?
