This is a brief video exposing some unknown criminal tactics used to take advantage of tourists and visitors to Johannesburg, South Africa. Just a few tips to bring additional awareness to travelers.
You heard? Where you hearing these thing? Johannesburg is like any big city in many countries, and I as a white guy walked all over the city and had an amazing time. Such friendly people and fascinating sights. I think you need to chill, relax, open your eyes and enjoy life and not degrade a place you just arrived in.... or stop traveling. If your attitude is negative then you will have nothing to enjoy and share. Just saying dude .
Multiple sources, I'm all about authentic travel experiences and this is one. Especially coming from Cape Town, Joburg definitely caught me off guard. I do feel ethnicity plays some part in how people relatively view safety. You may be in a situation where your ethnicity provides benefits. Being African American with an Asian wife definitely screams tourists. Walking into this big city makes us an easy target. FYI the people in the video behind me aren't just sunbathing, they work for multiple airlines and all received similar advisement. Appreciate your feedback please remember there is a wider audience of people traveling. I'm just sharing an experience that I had traveling it's up to you to make your own decision.

You're right. The people who spoke to him are alarmists. There's no difference between Jo'burg and big cities around the world. Just steer clear of certain notorious areas and you'll be good.

There are just certain no go areas that are just notorious for crime but despite that it is not bad at all. Have lived in Joburg for 10 years now and Im yet to have my encounter with crime.
My man do u know how many Americans that r here currently Why don't u contact them so that they can tell u their experience I can get u contacts of a couple that recently moved here permanently if u interested in truth about SA.
Death isn't the only measurement of crime. Based on the comments I'm hearing from people I never said America was safe. I could easily make a video about unsafe places in America. Places you should not go and I probably would get you tube blasted there too and that's fine, because the purpose of this video is to let people know how I felt in the moment during my visit, based on information I received from multiple sources. Some people say I'm bashing the city, no I'm not I'm just showing another side of it. I'm not standing outside an armored vehicle dealership for no reason like nothing's going on. Yes some people say that there's nothing to fear and maybe there isn't anything to fear but if someone's going to provide me information that can save my life, my wife or protect my valuables, what do I need to prove, why risk it? Oh I'm scared because I didn't take the chance. The Bronx and Brooklyn ain't safe either and I wouldn't advise people to go to certain locations, so should they go do it anyway just to see what happens and see if they could survive!?! That's basically the feedback I'm hearing. At the same time I understand this is somebody's country and I respect that but I would say the same thing anywhere even if it was my own country if there is a situation that needed to be spoken. I will say the best comment was the one where he said make a video if something actually happened to you and then talk about it. I actually did one of those in Thailand, it was the video I didn't want to make. That was a situation where I didn't get to control what happened next, in Joburg I had a choice.
