#godofwar #godofwarragnarok #kratos
Kratos, the God of War, a man who has evolved from a monster, full of hubris and rage - one who would tear down anyone in his path, innocent or otherwise on his quest for vengeance against those who destroyed his previous life - to a husband, made widower and a father who doesn’t know how to show love to his son as his days of being a father have long since passed and been forgotten. He’s not sure how to raise Atreus absent of Faye who always seemed to be the guiding light for him in uncertain situations. Even in the briefest moments we get with Kratos and Faye, you see how the two worked together, were a team that brought the best out of each other - especially for Kratos. So, as he struggles with his past demons both literally and figuratively. Following their journey to spread Faye’s ashes at her request - Kratos is confronted with a prophecy that would spell the end of his time with Atreus and now everything has changed. How do you change fate? Or can you?
During this journey of new self-discovery, growth, and lessons learned. Kratos battles new foes, gains new abilities, becomes stronger as the march through Fimbulwinter and into Ragnarok begins - but is Kratos the same, all-powerful, unstoppable God of War he once was? Has perspective and insight given him mastery over his power like never before? Is Kratos more powerful than when he battled his father for the soul of Greece? Let’s take a look.

Yo i have a question. Are you able to calculate flash Barry Allen in dark crisis Big bang one shot comic. It shows flash traveling through the infinite multiverse and punching the anti monitor from universe 28-3 and universe 3 to universe 789. Flash also states he holds back the infinite mass punch. He cannot charge it for anymore than a instant as space and time would be destroyed. Anyway I'm just asking.

i think hephaestus being an actual god of smithing explains why the blades are extremely powerful, the dwarves while being the weapons provider for gods, are still dwarves, mortal, their best creations relied on them using the magical forge that is the mermaid, the fact that their creations can somewhat rival hephaestus’ is impressive by itself

Ok but didn't Ares make the Blade of Chaos, Athena made the Blades of Exile and Zeus made the Blade of Olympus. That said wouldn't that make Haephestus' weapons decidedly inferior to those made by stronger Gods? Besides that, The Blades of Chaos/Exile are no more powerful than The Leviathan Axe or Mjolnir so it's kind of a moot point.

Kratos has been a promoted god for a long time now. Everyone in the 9 realms identifies him as a god. If that’s something they can pick up then surely they would’ve noticed mortal blood too. But it’s either unimportant to then or so diluted now that to them he’s just a full god. In Greek myths there are stories where Demi gods shed there mortal form to ascend to full godhood status.
@justbegoodlito
@justbegoodlito Год назад
In morse mythology even Demi gods are still considered gods by them, consider magni and modi, both only being minor half gods or at least that’s how I remember mimir regarding them in 2018
@jessekedar
@jessekedar Год назад
Considering how many times kratos has been "killed", resurrected and empowered by other gods and primordial beings... He's probably more "god" than mortal. in game I think his power is halved since the Greek realm is gone but considering he was strong enough to kill his entire pantheon that put him on the level of the Asgardians... Honestly it seems like the Giants were closer to Olympians in abilities but were mostly builders/creators, not warriors.
@justinanderson2460
@justinanderson2460 Год назад
@@jessekedar+ Why does it seem so hard to accept that the game's devs have already confirmed mt iople times Kratos is stronger now than ever? Instead people insist on doing mental gymnastics and selectivelymisconstruing statements to get a different answer. . Still, I'll try and give the short version of the explanation as to why Kratos is still God still and why he can be more powerful despite losing his magic. At the end of GoW 3, Kratos finally regains his Godhood when he stabs himself with the Blade of Olympus. He absorbs his powers back while releasing the Power of Hope. You can even see at the very end that the Blade of Olympus is left completely drained and powerless and Kratos leaves it there when he leaves Greece. . That said, his lack of magic is a different story. Remember Kratos had a LOT of help in the form of magical abilities, blessings, weapons and artifacts granted to him across the course of GoW 1-3. By the time the game ends though every source of power for those weapons, artifacts and magical abilities are all dead... because y'know... Kratos killed them all. Because of this, all his various weapons that were empowered by those beings lost that power. What little remained were destroyed by Zeus destroys at the end of the game anyway. It's important to note that that Greek Gods' magic is tied to their lands as Freya said so when Greece was "destroyed" their magic went with it however there's more to it than that. We see throughout the game's that as the Gods die, all their works come undone. After the Primordials formed the universe, the Titans rose up and took the mantle of lords of creation and gave basic form and shape to the world, adding the first foundations of order to it - like Cronos introducing time to the universe. When the Olympians took over, they bound and ordered the world even further. So when they were killed, that order was broken. We see this throughout the game's like when Helios is killed, the Sun itself dies and falls from the sky. When Poseidon dies, the sea rises up and floods the Earth and so on. By the time he's finished, Kratos has killed all of the beings who were responsible for applyinf order to the land and so the land was functionally destroyed and/or dead and reverted back to the chaotic, primeval state from before even the coming of the Titans. Basically, the death of the Gods destroyed the lands and with the destruction of the lands, their magic (which was drawn from the very lands they ordered as Freya mentioned) were also lost. . However, while these factors prevented Kratos from summoning his old magics, he was still the God of War and as an Olympian God, he only grows in power ad he ages so he's more powerful on a personal level than he ever was in GoW 1-3 - he just doesn't have the more esoteric/elemental magic he used to anymore. Again though, that was almost entirely granted to him by others with the one exception of when he was a fully empowered God of War but that only lasted between the end of GoW 1 and the beginning of GoW 2. Outside of that, all his magic was granted by others and when they died, he lost access to it. By the time he got his Godhood back, magic was more or less dead with the Greek Lands being destroyed so all he had left was his divine physiology and the Power of his rage as the God of War. . As for the Jötnar, you're kind of correct. Much like in the Norse Myths, the Jötnar are almost like the Titans in a way. They are direct spawns of the Primordial being Ymir and are more like personifications of the forces of nature rather than the Gods of a Pantheon and they are more chaotic than ordered in the sense that they are all about working with nature and the world as it is rather than trying to impose some kind of order on it. However, like a lot of the Olympians, they do seem to possess more elemental magic than the Aesir over all as the Vanir are the Gods of Nature and Fertility and such while the Aesir are more war-like Gods who favour martial power over esoteric power and what magic they do have aside from Odin's (since gathering knowledge and learning magic was like... Odin's obsession) is usually limited to a specific province or ability.
@justinanderson2460
@justinanderson2460 Год назад
@@justbegoodlito+ There are no demi-gods in Norse Myths like there are in the Greek Myths. Occasionally there are mortals who are granted the right to come to Asgard and stay there (and it's implied in some cases that they become more than mortal as a result) but the idea of say... and Aesir having a child with a mortal who is then a half God doesn't really exist like it does in the Greek Sagas. Aesir and Giant blood mixing doesn't create a "demi-god" as it would more or less be the equivalent of an Olympian having a child with a Titan - although even this analogy is not an exact one, just the closest I can think of to give a rough idea as the Jötnar are something akin to the Titans of Greece since they're more chaotic in nature than the Aesir Gods and they operate by working with the world almost like little personifications of the forces of nature rather than Gods who impose order on the world. You have the Vanir who are the legit Gods of Nature and Fertility and such but even they bring a degree of order with them that the Jötnar do not. It's also why the Jötnar possess magics that even Odin does not as they are more tied to the Earth than anyone - even the Vanir - in a very primal way and as Freya mentions in the game, magic is tied to the Earth/lands. . Magni and Modi are only "lesser" gods in the sense that they aren't as powerful as Gods like Baldr, Heimdall, Freya, Thor and Odin. They are 3 parts Aesir and 1 part Jötun due to their father's blood but in time they would have grown in power just like all the Gods do. . Basically, the idea of genealogy doesn't really apply in a consistent or standardised way in the Norse myths as blood doesn't get diluted in the same way when it mixes between Aesir, Vanir and Jötnar. It just makes different Gods, not weaker ones. The individual power of each God is less about their genealogy overall; instead being more about how powerful their parents are specifically and how close they are to the central Aesir bloodline of Buri - who realistically, is the only pure blooded Aesir to exist.

@@justinanderson2460 I basically said thats why he was so strong. Was just not trying to leave an entire theory under someone's comment. Some of the blessings and curses and Magicks of his pantheon had to still be in him, otherwise (I think) he wouldn't still have the ashes of his family on his skin since that's supposed to be a curse. I saw a theory and it makes sense. Kratos is more powerful now than ever. This is because he now has near complete mastery of his rage. He hit Thor once at the end of their first fight and wasn’t holding back as much and it shook Thor. He spit out a tooth and left because he felt he had seen a glimpse of Kratos’s true power. If Kratos was not holding himself back during that fight, even without the blades, Thor would have been dead.

False. Only instance where its confirmed kratos is holding back is up to the point where atreus learns he is a god. And wtf are u talking about going back to his old self? Kratos learned control and focus he can use his rage masterfully in battle and without the risk of losing himself. Thor left bc he wasnt allowed to kill kratos and when he realized kratos was pissed he knew if they fight it would be to the death which is confirmed in the last fight where thor says this time im allowed to kill you. Why would kratos hold back against odin or thor when atreus is literally in danger and against odin all lives in the 9 realms are in danger so literally zero reason to hold back. And everyone saying that devs confirmed kratos is holding back is lying. There are zero statements from writers that say he holds back. And odin soloed kratos and atreus. also, a good point, is that in GOW 3 you never had Spartan Rage, just the Blade of Olympus, which somehow implies Kratos was already in Spartan Rage 24/7. However, in the new games, Spartan Rage, aside from a game mechanic, is used every time Kratos gets pushed to a corner. The game tells you to activate spartan rage and Kratos becomes a beast until the fight is over. He has never been defeated after that prompt comes on screen. However, when he punches Thor's tooth out, he looks scared, because he slipped, his focus slipped and allowed for the rage to take over. Corey has already stated Kratos now is way more powerful than in the Greek Era. That with the scared thing led many to believe Kraots is afraid to let go of his rage because he may make GOW 3 look like a walk in the park with all his new power,. He can use his rage for a bit when neccessary, but is afraid that it may control him ocne more.

This. MANY people seem to believe that more showy/flashy means more powerful and this just isn't true. From feats, Thor could solo any of the Titans without TOO much trouble and likely kill any of the Olympians too with the exception of maybe Zeus. The fact that Kratos isn't fighting physically massive opponents most of the time in GoW 2018 and Ragnarok or we don't see the Aesir throwing around massive energy attacks and shit makes people somehow draw the conclusion that they must be less powerful when a proper analysis of their showings, feats and scaling very much indicates otherwise.

Any argument for universal attack potency from them (particularly on and individual level) is fallacious. . Secondly, scale does not equal potency. That goes right put the window here when we're talking about mythical gods further adapted to a fictional medium and then you throw in reality bending magic into the mix as well. @@justinanderson2460 “Fan theory” no this is you failing to do research. Read chapter 36 of the novel and all of this stuff is even stated in game. BLADES OF CHAOS MORE POWERFUL THAN THE LEVIATHAN AXE The top passage is from chapter 36. Freya is telling Kratos that in order to succeed in finding his son's cure in Helheim, he would need a weapon more powerful than the axe to do it. So Kratos decided that he needs to pick back up the Blades of Chaos to do the job. In addition to this being an implication of the Blade of Chaos being more powerful than the Leviathan Axe, the other circled highlighted statements assist in that. The Blades of Chaos are reiterated as being indestructible. Being stated that they could never be broken or even dulled, and that the power within them could never die or be silenced. In comparison, the Leviathan Axe is not stated to be indestructible at all, in fact the dwarven smith Brok both in the game and in the novel states that the Axe needs careful handling or it can be wrecked beyond fixing. So since the Axe is stated to be equal to Mjolnir, this implies that the Blades of Chaos are superior to both, more evidence of this is found in how flabbergasted and impressed Brok was at the mere sight of the Blades of Chaos, even though he made both the Axe and Mjolnir, he singled out the blades of chaos as "special."

@@RAGE-OF-SPARTA-X Concepts vary in strength depending on the range of it (this was only Hope as a concept in the Greece world) and how concepts actually work in the verse, as not every verse treats concepts as being particularly strong. So Kratos being empowered by the concept of Hope and defeating fear (a power he only had for a single moment) isn't really much of a feat itself. The Yggdrasil contains and transcends the concepts of time, space, life, death, rebirth, etc while containing multiple infinite universes, and Thor cracks it right open *as collateral*. That's definitely a much higher feat. There's just really no way that you could really treat the Hope feat as being actually better. Thor managing to kill Kratos after gaining in godly power over the years (he is stated numerous times to be an actual god and has lived for centuries, so he gets stronger over time like the others) is consistent with Fear!Zeus doing the same, which Base!Zeus was incapable of doing, as well as Kratos' statement of Thor's power plus the statement of Baldur being even more formidable than Zeus. Kratos’s story he tell to Atreus can be easily interpreted in several ways. He could be talking about his mental state, or his strength, or both. However, it is left vague enough the no one can say for certain. So not really good evidence. In the same game tho Kratos say to Odin that he must return his son or he may meet the god he once was aka rage filled kratos from gow3. When fighting Thor his past is brought up in which kratos respond by saying “then you know what I am capable of”. Both these quote, unlike the tent story, cannot be interpreted in different ways since they both clearly show kratos acknowledging his ability to become as brutal and rage filled like in gow3. Kratos in 2018 say “let’s finish this journey while I still have strength” which again isn’t good evidence since the guy who directed the game said that old kratos would beat young kratos. Also you forgot to show the actually quote where brok said the the blades of chaos were better than anything they’ve ever made.

My stance is sort of outside the lore and more philosophical. I believe Kratos will always become more powerful over time because he is a demi-god. True gods are static, but since Kratos can learn, adapt, and evolve, he will always overcome them...all of them. Assuming he has the will to do so anyway. It didn't go so well for Hercules but he just didn't apply himself enough 😂

One thing I feel people misunderstand about kratos’ feats in the older games is that he had an innumerable amount of amps to defeat gods, especially Zeus. Since his death in gow 2 kratos was a demigod hence why he’s called a mortal every time he encounters a god. I personally believe that Zeus is the strongest gow character in the series. First of all we need to understand how the blade of olympus works, it drains the power of whomever it hits. This is explained in the novelization of gow 2. Since the god powers belonging to kratos are locked inside the blade he becomes more powerful as its stated in the book. In gow 2 Zeus takes multiple blows form the blade of olympus and lives to see another day. To take a hit from this weapon and survive makes Zeus have the greatest durability of any character, even kratos couldn’t survive from such a blow and he didn’t. Technically zeus in gow3 should be weaker because as I stated the blade of olympus drains powers form it’s victims, and the fact that kratos needed the poh to truly defeat a weakened Zeus says a lot.

Maybe one day we'll get to see Kratos worshipped by people who acknowledge the change he's gone through and revere him as a God worth following. He's gone through this entire journey since the days of the Greek Pantheon, not trusting the Gods, no God is good and in general assuming the worst in them, this giant bundle of pain, regret, and trauma trailing behind him; that to see him realize that he's proven himself wrong, might make me cry.

@SeanAwesomeness

Odin isn’t equals to Zeus. Bruno Velasquez only stated that a fight between Odin and Zeus would make more sense than Zeus and Thor. If you want to make an accurate scaling, it’d be Hope Kratos > Fear Zeus > Corrupted Athena > GOW 3 Kratos > Zeus > Prime Cronos > Hercules. The reason why Corrupted Athena is ranked so high is because she transcended into a plane of higher existence. As for Cronos, him in his fatigued state gave GOW 3 Kratos massive trouble to the point where Kratos accepted that he would die. Now imagine Cronos in his prime with his lightning orbs and his time based abilities. In the novels, Hades with the help of Zeus couldn’t strip away his soul. Now I know Hercules is the most bizarre one. But in the official GOW 3 Guidebook, it confirms that he was relative to GOW 3 Kratos. Ragnarok Kratos isn’t stronger than his GOW 3 counterpart, and he sure as hell isn’t stronger than his Hope counterpart. Kratos is no longer a full fledged God, and he himself admitted that he’s lost all of his magic. In the novels, it confirms that the Blades Of Athena is stronger than the Blades Of Chaos;, and the Blades Of Exile is an upgraded version of the Blades Of Athena. And he no longer has the Blade Of Olympus, which is strong enough to send enemies to a different dimension, strip away immortalities, and contains his and Athena’s Godhood.

Very nice video i agree mostly though i disagree with 1 or 2 things. 1. Kratos beating Thor easily is up to debate considering how Mimir and Kratos weren't too sure on Kratos even winning the fight at least by the end of God of war 4 and begining of Ragnarok. It would also be weird that Kratos doesn't dismiss Thor's strength by claiming he has killed stronger people like he did with Heimdall. His official cap if i remember correctly was literally *Zeus!* Thor doesn't really have much to suggest he is inferior to the other Greek gods or titans besides the literal strongest of them all. Kratos also has only lost his magic from what we can tell. Thor also held back in their first fight as Thor stated and literally arguably killed Kratos considering knocked out or sleeping Kratos doesn't have the screen fake out. You also seem to be implying Baldur was stronger than Thor from what you are arguing which isn't even close to the case 2. Thor also fought 2 of the top tiers of his multiverse before fighting Kratos 1 of which he stalemated previously plus rival and the other was freaking Surtur the second oldest being next Ymir. Thor fought those two then knocked the serpent back in time something Kratos thought *was madness* before fighting Kratos. Thor wasn't fighting fodder or scrubs he was fighting arguably the second and third strongest beings in Kratos' side Thor also has an injury which had yet to heal or was even capable of being healed which Kratos took advantage of three times in their fight Thor also is not implied to have limitless stamina. Kratos most likely did fight a near full power Thor on the other hand you could say he was injured and tired Thor. Like the game developers probably intended Thor to be at near full power but Thor was still not fighting an easy fight before fighting Kratos.

Looking at facts (please correct me if I’m wrong): 1. Gods channel their power through their weapons (clear example being blades of chaos, sword of Olympus etc.) 2. Gods impart their power in creation of weapons (draupnir spear, blades of chaos) 3. Gods receive more power on home turf (assumption but makes sense ie: hades in underworld stronger than hades on earth) 4. Magic comes from the “earth” (plane/realm) 5. Powers can be added on altered or diminished but the core ability is constant. (Kratos gains abilities like soul control from hades scythe but without it he loses the ability. After Olympus falls he loses all but his innate strength) 6. Huldra brothers don’t have ability to imbue weapons with power but can communicate with and make magic usage more efficient. (Runes, craftsmanship, and magic ability are similar to coding, wiring, and increasing CPU…they don’t have the ability to produce the raw tech necessary BUT they can take what’s already there and draw out things even gods can’t grasp to draw out a weapons full potential) Ok with all that in place and to keep things brief… Kratos takes weapons from the gods and gets a boost each time he does. He also has to exert his own godly ability to make things work. It’s easy to do in Greece and harder to do in fimbulwinter. His innate strength is still there BUT he has to exert himself much more than before to tap into it. Huldra brothers lessen that handicap by making it easier to tap into his core. His innate ability hasn’t changed much (increase with age+, decrease with broken realm-) he is just borrowing/hoarding less power from others AND is handicapped by his current predicament. Bottom line is if he returned to Greece, fixed it up, and dwelt there long enough his power would be greater than before. (Even more so if he claimed the throne, the lingering power of the dead pantheon, and improved the efficiency of the powers’ flow w/dwarves help) If power was ‘height’ young Kratos standing on a mountain of godly weapons isn’t any taller than old Kratos standing in the valley of Norse realm in fimbulwinter.

I believe Norse Kratos is stronger than Greek Kratos. The upper scaling in both universes is similar so I believe it's intentional that the upper creation stories and the beings involved with them are around the same power, Ymir/Surtr and the Primordials for example would likely be around the same power, Odin and Zeus surpassing them, etc. Kratos surpasses both of them in different ways though. Kratos in the Greek saga barely defeats Zeus but it's with weaponry and power he no longer has such as the Blade of Olympus and Power of Hope. Kratos now is able to contend with beings such as Thor and Odin which have similarly surpassed their creation myths, but Kratos not only lacks those powers and tools, he's also constantly holding back unlike his younger self who was never restrained. Norse Kratos easily defeats Thor in their second round and I'm pretty sure the line in the game of Thor's hit bring as strong as any he's felt is intended by the writers to place Thor at the high end of the Greek Gods as well, and while he has help beating Odin he also still doesn't want to go all out and kill him, leaving it the Freya and Atreus. I consider Kratos' journey also about restraint and conviction. It's not about him growing weaker or stronger, but about him knowing what to do with that strength. Ironically by the story showing accomplish just as much if not more while also holding back I believe it shows that he has indeed grown stronger. Also Thor has a meta thing as well by "killing" Kratos and making him go through the death loading screen before reviving him. Either way though I did like the video, one of the best powerscaling videos on God of War I've seen.

It's all about prespective. You can go the power scale route if you want but that's not the point of GoW 2018 and Ragnarok at ALL. The point is the battle with one's self and nature. These past two games has been about Kratos fighting himself more than others, controlling and getting a grasp on his rage to be better, and overcoming his past. Like Freya as a example.. She was angry and bitter much like Kratos and going against who she is (Her nature) and internally battling herself. Also Thor, he was fighting himself to stop his drinking addiction and was too fixated on getting his father's approval so he never stood up to him. The battle in himself was addiction, depression, and neglect (Child abuse). GoW Ragnarok is about the great war but is more about the great war inside us we all struggle with. Kratos has the same strength, endurance, and speed from the previous games (Plus the fact he is curse to never die and his blades follow him everywhere no matter what he does to haunt for the rest of his life.) He is just more vulnerable emotionally due to having a son and a wife again who dies. That takes it's toll on you as a person. Kratos in Raganrok (at the end) has full control of his rage now to the point he even heal himself with it and use it in small burst if he wants. He came to terms with his past and overcame his internal struggles he was dealing inside himself for so long now. Those internal struggles wore him out (Like a on going raging war). So no he isn't weaker, he is just more vulnerable emotionally cause he is tired from all the fighting he does inside him and against others. It wore him out. Like I said at the end, he overcame those things finally and didn't have to hold back or reserve anything. He accepted who he is now, his past, his emotions and now he moves forward. Keep the same strength but just grew wiser with age.

@justinanderson2460
@justinanderson2460 Год назад
Only after he was ascended to Godhood to become the new God of War. He lost these powers at the beginning of God of War 2 but regained them at the end of GoW 3 When he stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus and in the end credits scene you can see he has abandoned it, leaving it completely drained. . The issue is that with the death of the Greek Gods, all their works came undone and the order they imposed upon the world was broken. When this happened, Greece basically came apart at the seams and was destroyed and as Freya explains, magic is tied to the Earth so when the Greek Lands were destroyed, Kratos' magic went with it. However, he still has his divine Olympian physiology which is what grants him his godly strength, durability, etc and allows him to grow stronger over time. The reason none of his blessing and/or gifts still worked was due to all of the beings/sources of power behind them all being dead - because... y'know... Kratos killed them all. As for his weapons/artifacts, Zeus broke them all in their final fight. . Hope this helps.
