@@dignerds that is totally fair and as an assistant teacher for a year i can attest to that (but it definitely helped me be less awkward with them haha)
The aunt in this movie is such a problem for me because this is how Hollywood writers portray career women who don't have kids. Like not wanting children or focusing on your career means you are completely incapable of relating to and caring for a child. It's bonkers to me.
Or maybe she's just a shitty parental figure? Not everyone has to be great with kids and that's okay, right? I mean I get your point- it does become a problematic portrayal if this theme continues to persist- but idk. It feels fine to me because there are people who don't know how to raise children and who do a crappy job if they are forced to do it anyways.
i love how dylan, as someone who constantly clowns kids, even knew that you could easily make up a bedtime story on the spot instead of telling her to cope with no books 💀
i have to applaud this commenter for tricking dylan into believing that they weren't just recommending megan to him, this strongly feels like a "you have to make him think HE made the decision"-kind of scenario hahahah
The biggest inconsistency in terms of physicality when dealing with the robot would be the fact that little Brandon didn't immediately shatter his hand when he backhanded a robot's head
I don't think I've ever seen Dylan have this good of a time doing a commentary. When Megan finally did the dance in the hallway, that man experienced pure joy like I've never seen before.
Dylan constantly bringing the „have you lost your marbles“ joke just because he literally bought them for the purpose of a joke never fails to make my day
I saw this movie on the first early showing on opening day. There were only like 10 or 11 other people in the theater, but one was a very flamboyant and vocal man sitting a few rows in front of me who would cheer "YAAAAAAAS HONEY" every time M3GAN killed or hurt somebody. I think it really added to the atmosphere of the film and I wouldn't want to have seen it in any other way.
@@coolboss999 I had an edible before the movie (since I knew it was gonna be a fun, stupid movie), so that coupled with his hype man commentary I was almost in tears, lol.
It reminds me of the time when I made fun of a movie and the entire row behind me laughed, but my cousin who came with me was very upset and said that I ruined the movie.
The marbles joke is my favorite running gag on this channel, if only because you made such a big deal of spending 7 dollars on it and actually ended up getting so much mileage out of it lmao
Your idea of the robot predicting the girl to be a serial killer sounded like a more intriguing plot in a couple of sentences than this whole movie. I want to see that!
Honest opinion about the movie: I thought it managed its tone pretty well. It's clearly comedic but the emotional beats still landed for me, as did most of the scares. It could have dedicated more time to character growth, but I don't think it needed to. In fact, I think it might have made it less unique. I like the Chucky-esque vibe, I wish more movies embraced the absurdity of horror as a genre
@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 that’s exactly how i felt watching this movie. it’s just for fun and i definitely enjoyed it in theatres (as did everyone else 😭💀) easily my top 3 theatre experiences
He isn’t wrong about the sex bots. In my health science class, I read a chapter about sexual health and it literally does a pro and con section about the possibility of sex bots.
I will never understand why movie engineers make hard-to-kill robots. there’s no way you can’t predict that it will probably turn out evil, especially with how creepy they look.
I can kinda answer this as an engineer (I don’t do cool robotics stuff so dw I won’t be the one building a robot that kills us all lol) the thing with this type of ai is that it’s kinda all or nothing. it’s very likely that once we figure out a way to build an ai model that is self improving (basically learns how to code and rewrites its own code to be a better ai…. and rinse and repeat x100000) that ai will very very quickly (literally like overnight) become magnitudes smarter than us purely because of how much faster computers run computations than humans. then u have engineers that work pretty much entirely off trial and error (u try something in a fully controlled safe setting and keep fixing bugs til it works) but that’s just…. not rly possible with ai that’s meant to teach itself because it’ll become smarter than u very quickly and can decide to just not let u turn it off. so we get one shot at it and if we get it wrong then whoops creepy tiktok dancing super killer doll haha
Also Megan is intended to be a toy. There is no way these cheap ass corporations would spend that much money on basically indestructible materials like that. For one, they want to keep the production budget down. Two, they don't want toys to last long so that parents will keep replacing them.
Dylan’s best lines: “Have you seen rings? It warps the wood…Just like that snow truck warped your parent’s bodies, yeah, that’s gonna happen to the wood.” 😂
This movie is definitely trying to be an updated Chucky - with the comedy horror aspect, the ridiculous way Megan moves sometimes, and the commentary about a hyper reliance on toys for comfort. And I think it really works as an undated Chucky. I would say this has a similar level of quality to the first Chucky movie. Not amazing, but fun.
I don’t think it is at all. It missed the entire point of chucky, it doesn’t touch on the themes of chucky. All you’re connecting is the fact that it’s scary, and about a doll. Just a weak connection.
@@alexisd6106 well, I’m not saying it’s a direct copy of Chucky. I just think it’s trying to make you feel a similar way. The way that the furby parody toy at the beginning of the movie talks reminds me a lot of the way Chucky talks in his movies. And while I don’t think all of the themes are the same. I do think both movies are partially centered around the idea of a child relying more on a toy for comfort than their guardian and the way that causes issues. Also the comedy horror thing helps a lot to create the same vibe.
Not really, atleast not in my eyes. Chucky wasn't about Andy only being able to rely on him for comfort since he actually had an amazing connection with his mother. The movies vibes and points are very different I think. This movie is less about "comedic killer doll" and more centered on it being AI. It gives similar vibes to BlackMirror episode when Miley is stuck in a toy, or honestly just many other AI movies. Also the comedy is very different. Chuckys comedy is that hes literally scary and brutal and has FUN in his sadism and often says clever and vulgar things, only to suddenly have a childlike/immature moments (such as his disappointment when an older man died from a heartattack at seeing him so chucky wasnt able to personally kill him, such as a child being derived of their fun) and Megan just isn't at all like this. There's nothing supernatural about it either, since voodoo and magic was a heavy theme in Childs Play. And their goals are very different as are the relationship they have with the children they're attached too, hence again why the "both relying on them for comfort" doesn't really strike a cord as being a shared major theme for me. Megan gives modern AI thriller and Chucky is giving classic supernatural thriller/horror, and megan simply lacks the grit (as do many thrillers/wannabe horror movies nowadays do) of Chucky. I went on for a bit only because I just like discussing things, not trying to come off rude but just throwing out my own opinion!
@@samorroberts3126 No, you make some good points! I’ll be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve watched the first Chucky movie so it’s not crystal clear in my brain. You’re totally right about comedy being expressed through different methods. And again, I don’t think Megan is trying to be a direct update for Chucky, I do think there are some intentional parallels throughout the whole thing. Also, what I mean about an over-reliance on comfort in Chucky is that for a little bit in the movie, it’s assumed that Andy is using Chucky as a way to feel comfortable talking about things (which is a common tactic for children with developmental issues). Obviously, that’s not actually the case in the movie because Chucky is alive and talking, but it does touch on the idea of kids using toys to cope with things.
so, funny thing is, i arranged with my coworkers to go see this film but unfortunately we got lost and then stuck in traffic so we were late and had to buy tickets to see puss n boots the last wish and ended up sneaking in m3gan right when she met katie but the experience was fun, lots of laughter rather than horror. if you haven’t reacted to puss n boots 2 tho i highly recommend. we still went to see that since we had the ticket and it was so visually and comically fun and had a surprising amount of heart! i cried more than i wanna admit so i’d love to see your reaction.
Probably the now inate desire to make money since we live in a capitalistic society He's making thousands of dollars per upload, to watch a movie- he's doing just fine, dear. Lmao
The fact that I just got introduced to this channel and my slight binge had led me to your introduction of the marbles and retirement of them in back to back videos already saddens my heart lmao
I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea what I would do if I had a hypothetical niece who suddenly came into my care because their parents passed. I don't want children so while I totally would try my best, I think I would actually make a terrible parent/guardian, which is why I never want to have one lol.
Like I can barely take care of myself on this hell of a planet, now I gotta take care of a child I never wanted??? And I can't even blame the kid bc it's totally not their fault, but goddamn, this would be the worst lol.
No same here, so I don't think the hate on this character is fair at all. People who don't want to be parents suddenly being forced to take care of kids can't really be expected to be good at it since they're doing it entirely unnaturally and unwillingly. I'd despise parenthood.
I actually really liked this movie. I think I have it a 7/10 on IMDB. I went into this movie KNOWING it was more of a satirical/thriller/dark comedy with elements of camp. I got the overall message of it commentating on the nature of ipad parenting and, and how we give SO much of ourselves to technology. The ideas of things recording you without your consent….we deal with that alllllll the time. Or even the idea of tech companies profiting off of the minds/emotion/ of children (like Tik Tok) nature of tech companies. Hence why Katie being used as the emotional anchor isn’t that weird (morally it is). I did think the beginning was slow but once I picked up on everything I was fine with it. I went into this movie (via the commercial) think it was going to be a 3 out of 10 so it totally exceed expectations.
I remember finding this channel around 2020-2021 and just loving it! Seeing your platform grow and get bigger sponsorships just makes me so happy for you and really gives me a scope of how much you’ve grown. We love you Dylan and never stop doing what you’re doing here which is make thousands of people laugh every day. 😊❤
I have a funny story related to this movie. While we were watching it, I shouted at Alexa, who is in the next room "Alexa, please don't kill me". Alexa's response was "Uhhmmm, I don't know about that" . Made me LOL but worried me a bit at the same time 😬
I went to see this in the last weeks in theaters with my friend and there were like 7 other people there. Ever since M3gan started singing, the room was just filled with laughter. This was definitely a comedy (and not worth the money we payed) 😅
@@Sarahonwheels animals with more legs run faster and trip less, humans are only designed with two bc our heads are heavy. if speed was their priority four-legged mode was inspired, but idk why u would need that for a toy lmao
Haven't watched the video yet, but I just wanted to say you're the reason I started watching movie commentaries. You are hilarious and I've rewatched your videos so much and I laugh everytime.
Megan is supposed to seen as human as possible, that's why despite not needing to turn her head or eyes the same way, she does. We've mirror neurons that activate when we undergo empathy, especially upon seeing facial expressions. By allowing her to have as much of facial expressions as possible, you're increasing the chances of humans feeling empathy towards her. She's a learning machine as they say, so she'll pick up facial expressions to use. Same way she learns to teach lessons, like taking the neighbours dog from her to highlight it wasn't the fence, but her owners negligence in controlling her dogs and is punishing her by taking her dog out of sight permanently. It's why she rips the boy's ear off while she could have stabbed him in the eyes or anything. It's how she's learned adults handle bold children. Not to mention she kills the neighbour through torture first, because she herself was being tortured by the dog for a while. And the family "tortured" by the neighbour.
Love how Dylan is advocating for poor Cady and ALSO wants Bruce to yeet her out a window 😅 I really wanted to see him react to the Titanium singing 😂 I hope the sequel is even better. Like James Cameron T2 quality better.
You pulling out the bag of marbles cracked me up! 😂 I forgot you bought those! I didn’t care to see this film and after watching your commentary, I’m pretty sure if I had sat down to watch the whole thing I would have felt like I wasted my time. So thank you for your sacrifice. As always, you had me laughing throughout!
I've seen this movie twice on my own but it just hit me during this video that the guy who sings "Sitting is the opposite of standinnnn" is in it. Love that doof. This movie isn't so much "horror" as it is campy. Its got plenty of comedic beats, Megan is serving look after look (the sunglasses with the deep brown trench coat??? iconic), she's slaying dances on her way to slaying people, and she reads Gemma to absolute filth. I cannot wait for the sequel.
M3GAN was literally my obsession for the first half of 2023. The moment I heard about the movie and saw the trailer, I knew it would be one of my favorite movies. I love doll horror movies. I saw it in the theater with my dad, and I loved it. I even have my own custom M3GAN doll. M3GAN is my favorite movie of 2023. I love her voice, and the fact that she sings and dances, of course.
I think the movie would’ve been better if it kept an R rating, they apparently cut a lot of horror aspects out for that pg13, I think the two assistants were supposed to die too but they reshot it (but I’m not 100% sure that’s true).
@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 Thanksgiving is rated R and was pretty fun to watch without being too overly gorey in my opinion, the kills were pretty cool and creative. Cocaine Bear is also rated R and was still campy and fun too.
@@foolishlyfoolhardy6004 I actually don't really like jump scares or body horror much, so movies like the Nun or that Evil Dead movie that came out this year I stay away from. I only want to see campy fun horror with over the top semi hilarious kills, so I still think Megan needed to lean more into that aspect because it's somewhat lacking in my opinion.
Every once in a while I think "where is my Dylan's video?" And later that day he always posts. I think I have a biological alarm for his videos, love it
3:06 there are definitely scenes in movies and TV shows that I call, car crash shots, because there's no other times you see a certain kind of framing, also on TV shows you rarely see characters traveling from place to place, so when you do see them in the car or on the plane, there's either going to be important dialog or a major accident
I never thought of it, but that is so true! And we intuitively know it, right? As soon as there is a car scene we pay closer attention and, in these kinds of movies, get nervous
I just love movie commentary monday, it's THE most consistent content. I think megan is a campy horror movie rather than being just horror movie, that's why people liked it
Dylan, I live in Jacksonville and I've been watching you for years. I fangirled a little when you mentioned it but I would also choose the deadly AI robot instead of living here.
You are so good at your job. Your videos are so enjoyable to watch like I was going into this movie/video thinking it's a ‘horror film’ . You just made it into a comedy and I love it. I love that for you! like your really good at what you do! keep going keep doing you great job Dylan
From what I understand about the movie is that for some reason is really big with queer people. I think that it's meant to be some sort of anti-horror movie. A lot of fans actively rooted for Megan throughout the movie.
camp horror is its own subgenre, but i think it's usually only appreciated by horror fans rather than general audiences. horror fans usually care less about jumpscares and just want to have fun watching a movie in either humour or cool visuals. and dark subject matter with goofy/funny execution has always been huge with queer audiences, look at heathers and jennifer's body
@@ceezee57well i mean brian jordan alvarez, the mastermind behind the gay and wonderous life of caleb gallo, is in it n thats reason enough for me to consider it queer
