Mariah not only has a unimaginably large range, she has great control all through out it. A few clips on the internet don’t define an artists vocal ability either. And on musicianship, which other artist writes, produces, sings the vocal lines and Melodies as complex as Mariah’s? All while making the song an international hit with poet lyrics. With the transitions and jumps between registers AND octaves, runs, and all. All while sounding pleasant to the ear. Not many can relate. Mariah is UNmatched

Well, that's what I call bias I'm being a fan of Mariah for 7 years already and I actually know her music, voice, history, biography, vocal deterioration path (thing some lambs calling "voice evolution" which is ironic if you ask me), and I see no point in denying the truth? Do I like the way she sounds now? Hell, no. It's crazy how much her voice has changed since her prime years and it's not natural. And she has no intention in fixing it either, cause believe me, I know such people, they're gonna make tons of excuses and do some crazy efforts in order to LOOK good, but not actually BE good. That's some deep psychology, but I'm not gonna dive deep into this stuff here, it's barely interesting for majority of people. That's exactly what's happening with Mariah. I'm waiting her to BE a good singer, while she's trying to LOOK LIKE a good singer, when in reality it's all fake/lipped/dubbed vocals from like 30 years old, and she, honestly, doesn't give a single shit in order to sound good. She just sings whatever she likes and however she likes, and with such an approach it's not surprising at all people are mad at her, cause, again, they want Mariah to actually BE a good singer she used to be in the past, while she simply doesn't care for some reason Sorry for this rant, but I had to say it, cause somebody has to at the end of the day And what about production etc, you're again talking like it's only 1 and Only Mariah Carey doing this stuff, while in reality there're and were tons of people working with her, creating her image, teaching her vocal technique (when she actually took some lessons), keeping her schedule, producing her music etc etc etc etc, I don't think it's right to downgrade efforts of other people, which are just as important as Mariah's own efforts. Artist is always working in team, there're literally no exceptions, you simply can't do such great things alone I hope you understand my point, at least some part of it. That's a myth, with proper voice care and technique adjustment you can save your voice not only past 50, but basically up until your death with bare minimum of changes, saving your vocal range and consistency, there're quite a bit of examples. Mariah's voice is ruined and age is just an excuse at this point

It's really weird how some of y'all would treat Mariah's deteriorated voice as some moral failing on her part looking at the extent you guys will go to say that she's not a good vocalist 💀. A simple look at Mariah's life you will see how it's been filled with abuse and misery, I don't know how you could pin all the blame to personal responsibility when talking about her vocal deterioration.

TRUE! Those "if it's over" F#5 are her best belted notes, it's just that this person doesn't really understand how much those note were perfect , it's why I didn't watch the entire video , plus Morissette, better than Celine or Mariah ?? It's just ridiculous, Mori is incredible but not above the vocal trinity , EXCUSE ME !

I thought the clip of it's over was just one of the great examples of her hitting f#5 but the rating of the note was an overall rating of all f#5s performed in her prime or at least that's how I interpreted it.

But she executed perfect belting technic SEVERAL TIME. And also Mori could never match her mid belt. Mori is incredible but not on that level yet baby. Now let's take a look at Mori. Who told you she isn't nasal? Did you hear her upper belts. She is a high soprano but can't execute a perfect placement without using the mask giving that flat sound starting Eb5. Just see the difference between her Never enouuuugh (Eb5) ,,and those of Laurren , the original singer of this song. Also , celine's highest note in term of belting is a Bb5 PLUS vibrato. Now what , is she agile more than Celine ? Naahh. Squeak doesn't make anyone better vocalist. Celine doesn't copy anybody when she sings. While Mori do. So stop thinking that any singers from nowadays are comparable to the vocal trinity. And I'll repeat again. Mori is an amazing vocalist, certainly one of the best from nowadays. But don't compare a legend to some learners.

Honestly, even to say that her OVERALL F#5's in her prime were consistently grounded is a stretch because her debut era F#5's were so squeezed and tense and Anytime You Need A Friend F#5's at Hey Hey It's Saturday undubbed were also flat and pushed. Even her MTV Unplugged If It's Over F#5's were tense, and also Oprah 1992 If It's Over F#5's

@@rotta_rotta I still wouldn’t say bad. She still had good moments up to C#5/D5 in the early 10’s. She’s noticeably declined since around 2014 but I still wouldn’t say she’s bad. She has good moments up to Bb4/B4 and occasionally C5.

The problem with Mariah’s lower end is that most of her best attempts are in dubbed performances (Open Arms- 1996 Tokyo) which are either dubbed to fix quality or fix any belting/ higher end. I HIGHLY doubt she’s editing her lower register. I personally believe that she has the most developed and praise worthy lower register out of all the singers you’ve done for CVSS but as I said it’s your scoring system and I respect your decisions. Belting: I think F5 should be counted as a golden note- it is excellently executed besides of like 3/4 squeezed notes in her debut. Breath management: I understand the importance of sustaining. However, shouldn’t phrasing, ad-libbing, ornaments, transitions all be a part of breath management? I definitely think she deserved higher. Agility: In my opinion, Mariah is one of the few singers who deserves the full 10/10 agility score, the “magna carta” of mainstream melisma. Whistles: I also don’t understand why score something lower even if it’s “off-key”. She still showcased the ability to hit it. Overall, I just don’t understand why her range didn’t boost her score higher. She can extend both lower and higher ridiculously to the extreme- something that helped singers like Celine and Morissette in the belting section for example.

@@Ryan_K535 hey! Belting: F5 was never sustained so it can’t be golden. For breath management, it’s only about length. The rest of the things you mentioned are for other categories! For her agility, she is very great, but a 10 is saved for the few that are even higher. Mariah is very very agile and creative but a 10 is about impossible. For whistles I kind of feel like it’s pretty self explanatory that off key notes earn less. And her range did help her a bit, but she is t as consistent as the others. Her golden was (and I may mess these up, I don’t have them memorized to be honest) G3-E5, while Celine was E/F3-D5, but had more consistent lows and head voice and could belt higher, and Morissette is G#3-Eb/E5, but has almost the exact same range as Mariah and is more consistent in the other categories.

@@CamdenE This is exactly why I think sustaining/length is overrated and phrasing/movement is underrated. Morisette and Celine prefer to sustain more while Mariah loves to move around, add ad-libs- just different types of singers. Why should Mariah get less points because of the way she goes about approaching her singing? I can’t think of a single person that can surpass Mariah in mainstream agility- only Tori and Beyonce can *match* her but I guess that’s subjective again. Consistency is not something she really could control or something that was negatively impacted by her technique. She always had a disadvantage when it comes to vocal health- but as I said this goes back to why you can’t really measure vocal technique with points because of different instruments.

@@Ryan_K535 Just the way you put it says a lot about you being biased towards Mariah Sustaining isn't some kind of an "approach", it should be a basic skill for any vocalist. Mariah simply cannot sustain high belts/or high head/high whistles with enough consistency, which shows lack of vocal technique and development. Phrasing isn't harder than sustaining, it's a myth, it's actually the contrary. Mariah simply couldn't sustain high notes in majority of cases, yes, she preferred agility over sustaining, but she did it because she couldn't sustain notes properly, not because she just chose this way of the singing over the other one, it was obvious that her voice would break if she sang with this kind of approach. It broke anyways though, so whatever And also you're very wrong when it comes to her consistency, you can blame whatever you like, but it's HER voice and SHE ruined it for one reason or another, nodules, alcohol abuse, lack of warm ups, unhealthy lifestyle in general, but again, it's her problems. There're countless singers in the world with same or even more hectic schedule, yet they're succeeding in preserving their voices. Mariah simply couldn't, it's a fact, get over it, again, it's exactly why her consistency has suffered over the years - she simply didn't care and last performances showed exactly this, how can you make so much excuses for her and be blind towards her own mistakes? Basically all you're trying to say is: "Why did you put Mariah so low, she's my fav, she's the best of the best, it's unfair, I want to believe in her image of the Songbird Supreme, but you didn't put her this way, why so?"

I’ll edit this comment as I reply to various parts! 1. D7 earns more because it is sustained while C#7 is not. For a note to be golden in whistle, I had to provide a sustained example. 2. As for the whistles and their pitches, I’ll adjust accordingly! Thanks for letting me know. 3. I didn’t use I am free because it IS studio, but it does prove she should get the point so even though the example I showed isn’t as good, it proves she CAN do it which is why she earns the point. 4. I may be in agreement with you about the B4. I tried to find a more even attempt to contrast the “labelle” B4 and struggled there, so I may update that. 5. The clips I showed weee her first and last song in her MSG concert, and the first and last charmbracelrt tours and after some listening she did seem to improve, but if she has a history of not performing to the same standard that can be adjusted as well. 1)This particular D7 was one-time event and it's hardly was sustained, like 0.5 seconds, which is still impressive, of course, but as I said - lucky case, personally I wouldn't really mark as "golden" any note in the 7th octave, except maybe C7, cause she has quite a bit of sustained C7's in studio and some were hit live 2)Ok, glad I was able to help 3)Well, Mariah is mostly a studio singer, in order to use dynamics - your voice should be healthy and relaxed, which usually isn't the case with Mariah, cause when she's singing live - she's mostly either not prepared properly, or feeling sick/nervous which all affects her ability to sing live as good as she could (prior to voice damage) 4)And you won't find, cause there aren't any, even during Daydream era she wasn't singing "heady", it just bright voice, but essentially still belting 5)Believe me, MSG concert and Charmbracelet Tour are exceptions, also you used one of the best vocals (Hero from Kuala Lumpur), while in reality major part of great vocals during Charmbracelet Tour was during European leg of the tour aka middle, not the end. Also, don't forget that there were quite a bit of lip-syncing during Charmbracelet Tour (I have a video about it on my channel), hence her voice wasn't really as tired as it should've been with such schedule and set-list, it allowed er to rest

A baritone in E3-F2 doesn't sound airy, it sounds huge.

@@ervis6926 I dont know. There are tenors who reach lower notes. But that is not the point. The type of voice is not defined by the extension, it is more related to tone, projection, control, comfort.

@@ervis6926 Well, Mariah can technically reach an F#2, at least G#2 was 100% real, why tenors can’t reach an Eb2? Personally, I can’t really hit it in a chest voice, but my voice is above regular tenor, more like lower mezzo voice, my lowest notes, just tested, usually is an F#2, and my vocal cords just can’t stretch any further So, most probably, you’re a tenor, baritones usually have very manly and captivating voices, they’re usually described as “deep”, “charming”, “alluring” etc, while tenor voices are mellow, somewhat boyish, even higher voices tend to be slightly androgynous, but don’t use your range as a solid marker of your voice type

The whistles were musical they just weren’t sustained! That’s all it means! And do you have a link? And Celine does objectively have better belts, as for lows Celine is much more consistent than Mariah so I’d say Celine takes lows, Mariah just has a low extension.

@@Gui-mt2wu watch their videos fully and you’ll see why. Morissette is a stronger belter than Mariah, but otherwise they’re very similar range wise, Morissette’s being slightly bigger. And morissette is more consistent.
