My 27 year old daughter just moved home and my 22 year old son lives here. She’s here to pay off a couple of debts and save up. He’s here to keep working his way through school and avoid debt. Neither of them can afford to live comfortably w/o a roommate and they figure if they need roommates it might as well be the family. We’ll make it through together.

You got my number one item that is happening at my homestead next month. Our oldest adult daughter (51) had a bad divorce and is coming to live with us and we will be paying her as the replacement of our farm hand. We raise chickens and rabbits and needed to get someone who would work at light labor to care for them. She can help here as well as get another job or go back to school locally to help pay her bills. My wife and I are in our early 70’s and could really use the help, as I am totally VA disabled. So the three are all looking at this in a positive light.

I had to leave my Farm in the Western NC Mountains to Florida and care for my elderly parents. Thankfully I own both places without a loan. My plan was to have them move to North Carolina, but due to dementia, that became impossible. I bought enough land many years ago to build enough for each of my kids, and their spouses to live on, but surprisingly, THEY have each bought their own homesteads. Once my folks are gone, I'll be moving back to the farm with my best friend whose husband is dying of cancer. I lost my husband 3yrs ago to the same thing, and we are a good team. Being 65, with a bad back from farming since childhood, I'm not able to do it all, so our plans are set, and we will do what we can to live out our lives in Peace.

So I moved in and cared for my mother through hospice and I still care for my father, I also co=parent my grandchild with my ex; I guess we are called the sandwich generation. I live with my mother. She has a plethora of health problems and her disability only goes so far. The place i was renting for my son and i, was sold to another company and the rent jumped from 450 to 1050. For a one bedroom duplex I might add. This was before they even made the first renovation that they promised when they took over. So now i split all the bills down the middle with my mother and she helps me keep an eye on my son while i work the oddball shifts for over time. He is loving having his granny's full attention and he is company for her as she has lived alone since my father had passed. Lol. I do all the cooking while she handles the laundry. (Yes, i am one of those women that despises laundry. Lol). Im just grateful the house is paid off. We are noticing that several of our elderly neighbors have extra house guests now.

We began doing this in 2022. We rent part of the house our child and their family rent and get the benefit of interacting with darling grandchildren daily and have the security of stronger younger folks close by in the event we seniors have an issue. It works great. We can help young parents with all the many needs and we have security. No more shoveling snow or heavy lifting. We have a very good arrangement and respect each other's boundaries. Family counsels work out any differences in a calm respectful manner. Not everyone can do this but it's working well for our "tribe".

Thanks Patara. From what I see with my own eyes here in Central PA, the trend of multigenerational homes is well underway and increasing rapidly. What most people do not realize is that prior to the 1950s this was quite common. Economic necessity will dictate this for many families, especially for elderly relatives.

Have mother in law and a single brother in law already. I watched nearby online auctions and bought a whole closet full of linens for cheap. The extra sheets would make extra bandages for wounds if nothing else.

My mom lived with me for several years before she passed in 2022. I enjoy the concept of multigenerational households if there are enough rooms. In future, I feel like one or more of my aunts may need to move in with me. All generations and all people have something that they can contribute to family wellbeing, there is a treasure trove of information in people.

I have been suggesting this to my in-laws for a couple years. They keep downsizing and moving from one place to another because they do not have the money they used to have. They keep saying no but the last time I brought it up a few days ago they didn’t respond. I think they are coming to the conclusion it might be their best option.

I'm actually thinking of selling my Jeep Wrangler because my insurance and taxes are continually going up... would sell my home for a smaller place, my insurance and taxes on that has increased quite a bit over the 3 years since moving here, but home inventory is almost non-existent here, anything halfway descent and almost affordable is sold within a day or two of being posted. And also, risen interest rates in home mortgages have slowed people selling homes. With everything else, especially food, on the rise, as a 73 yr old widow on a fixed income, it's becoming more & more difficult to keep up with all the issues and expenses that come with owning a home. And I really wonder how most people are making it. Times are scary and becoming moreso!!! And, for sure, that will continue to increase👹

I totally am all for multigenerational housing. My husband died 2020 my adult children still live with me. I am disabled, and would not be able to live on my own. However, my husband‘s brother is A high functioning autistic mental age 9 and my husband was his only sibling. so eventually me and my daughters I will have his brother right now. His mother is still alive but if she gets too bad, ( has survived stage four cancer twice, And it’s a miracle she still with us praise God )we’re just gonna all move in with her. she has a huge house so it won’t be a problem and it’s paid for so no big deal. and we will all three have our own rooms and the house has four bathrooms. And on 2 acres of land that I can actually do a small garden. 😊

Already doing it. My husband and I bought a home with our 28 yr old daughter. She has been out living and supporting herself. But. We all know how hard it can be as a young single to get ahead etc. Not the only reason we did it but was one consideration. Another was proximity. Hard to work together and plan when living in different places. Been 2 years and we're loving it

Ugh..this rain... I bought a small cottage last year with a mobile home on it. Everything was a rental..several people have stopped and asked if it was for rent... I have no desire to be a landlord..especially with all the cleaning up I have had to do because of other people. However if my family needs a place I have no problem and am beginning to buy new pipes, have that moment arrive!!! Love the like mindedness of people like us!!! Love your channel and thoughts!!!

I am 79, and years back, I had a mini-farm. I so enjoy your videos. I live in South Central KY. We have a program for seniors, 65 and over, with low income. On the 1st Tuesday of each month, we pick up a Senior Box. We always get cheese, but other than that, we never know what might be in the box. Anything that I can not use due to dietary restrictions, I take to one of the Blessing Boxes or give to a couple of neighbors in my complex who are in need. I am blessed to have been able to put some food aside, but I still want to be able to help those who truly need it. I saw your videos about taking from the Blessing Boxes. I will not make a judgment call on if those people were in true need. That is between them and God. My mother always said not to be afraid to give to those in need, as God would provide someone to help you when you are in need. Continue making these wonderful videos. God bless you and your family.

Our property is home to four generations. My grandmother in a trailer on the property, my mom, dad, and little sister in the upstairs level of the home, and myself and my three teens in the lower level of the home. We all help each other. The tips that help us are: Respect each other, don't be afraid to ask for help with something, be a help to others as much as possible, go for a walk or bike ride outside if you get overwhelmed.
