Bringing in Newey is a double win - not only have you brought him into your team, but you've also taken him away from one of your biggest rivals. I think red bull could find themselves in 5th in 2026, behind Merc, Ferrari, McLaren and Aston. They've lost several really key people and walked away from a key current partner in Honda. For yhem, 2026 isn't just about new chassis and PU regs - it's also the first time they've built and designed the PU themselves. Massive challenge and without some key personnel.

The key to the project working is an entity that neither Newey or Stroll control: Honda. It will all come down to how committed Honda’s leadership is to developing a competitive PU and then throwing resources behind it if it does not work immediately out of the box in 2026.

So many naïve people who think that Lance Sr is only doing this for his son. He is letting his son ride this out while he finishes the championship puzzle, in the end it's about creating a championship winning caliber team, with the purpose of eventually selling at the height of its value, either to Honda or some other investment group. Lawrence and his billionaire investor friends are expecting a big return on their initial investment.

They don't believe it, but it IS a narrative that suits their mind set. They have no interest in being correct or accruate, it's just tribalism to make the competitioon look less than whoever it is they support in turn. Mature individuals don't converse on those terms, it is beneath us.

Also do you realize what took place to get Lance the F3 title and his spot at Williams. This isn’t about money this is a fight between billionaires, atleast for Lawrence.

I posted this on Sky, too! Maybe I am crazy. However, Adrian offers Aston a solution to a further issue for Lawrence Stroll. What if Adrian creates a beast of a car and Lance falls short? What if, the Aston becomes a race or even championship winning car and Lance does not get any of those wins or anywhere near them? Lawrence is not going to sack Lance just like that, is he? However, what if Adrian builds two winning cars? An F1 and an Endurance winning car in the Valkyrie? Lance can then go to Endurance, Max to F1 with Aston and Fernando and all faces are saved. Because I truely beleive that Lance would shine in that class. As I said on Sky, you heard it here first 🙂 Just a thought!

Hi Elvis. You absolutely blasted that with some great points. One thing that was a big factor in my opinion was the partnership situation. He has sought that in his moves and there's no way that he would get that at Ferrari or Mercedes. Having been in the same position where I built up a company but was not given a partnership....it eats at you. The other thing was Christian dumbing down his input. He wrote an email to CH listing all the times he had. His Missus just said b*ll*cks. This was why I was calling it months ago

max's winning engine designer will be at AM from 2026, max's winning car designer is also there from 2025.He has seen what Honda and Newey can do and how they operate for 6-7 years. I guess that is something Merc will find hard to beat. And if needed Lawrence Stroll will pay thru the roof to get Max. Only bottleneck is they only have 1 seat as the other is held in perpetuity.

Lance Stroll has in the past shown sparks of brilliance. But moments of excellence don't make an excellent driver. Alonso has lately lost a bit of his figting spirit, which is quite normal when you're one of the most naturally gifted F1 pilots under the sun and you have nothing to fight with. Newey is not a miracle worker, but a few things he can achieve is, first off, lift the spirits of everyone involved at Aston Martin, and secondly, make people with cash to invest look up and go, "Hmm, maybe we should have a look over there and see if investing is an opportunity we should let pass..." But... the problem is Lance. If and when Stroll Sr. is serious about winning races and/or championships, he'll need a second driver who is worth his weight in gold. Alonso still has the fire burning, although it needs rekindling, but sonny-boy will have to re-invent himself or make way. And he first of all will need to be reminded that results are what's needed. You can't keep coming in thirteenth or fourteenth when your team mate is on the podium. Maybe Lance should start a venture with Perez. The "Double Trouble Mexican Grill (Bite Once And Triple The Bill)". Or "Stroll On a Roll"...

Elvis. Can I ask a question please. Why don't brands like BMW or Audi make F1 engines? I know they don't race but so many teams rely on engine partnerships surely a cheaper way for these manufacturers to be still in the F1 spot light and considering these companies already spend billions designing engines surely the extra cost involved in making 100 x F1 engines a year is no huge cost for them? They already employ all these designers and have they're own smelting plants
@F1Elvis

It will be very interesting to see what else happens at Aston Martin in the next 12 months. I'm sure that much of what you forecast will eventuate.

Bringing in Dennis Rodman elevated the teams he played on, but some of those teams still shot themselves in the foot because of team dynamics off the court. I see this in the same vein, because money cannot buy success, they need to build a team, as well as a car, and that includes driver dynamics. McLaren has the best car at this moment in this season, but they are still finding a way to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory, and it happens all the time. But I do give them credit for at least trying and not being satisfied as a midfield team.
@Mrcento

30m is actually quite cheap i reckon. Even if you just look at it as a business transaction. Does having the greatest designer in F1 history on the books of your team add financial value?, The answer is yes. If Stroll was to sell the team tomorrow, with Newey now contracted to Aston, would he get more than 30m extra for the team?, Again, the answer is yes. And that's before we even consider the discounts to that wage that will effectively come from added sponsors and prize money if/when he starts to deliver success. And when that happens, even if its a few years down the line, will Aston be worth 90+ million more than they were a few weeks ago?, Yet again, the answer is yes.

Hot take: I just don’t see him nailing 2 new regs rules back to back. By the time it’s over he’ll be old & want to retire. I’ve always rated Newey, but the DTS hype has naturally built him up to god like status, the fall will be even greater. Sad world of recency bias, we love clowning people & he’ll end his career on a low imo. Just look at Perez being a gem for years rated by everyone in force India days to RB, going out sad & no one remembers the good days anymore. We build people up, only to break them down.
@enigmaticdropbear
@enigmaticdropbear Месяц назад
Newey had god-like status in F1 long before DTS was dreamed up. And for good reason. It’s also a truism that talent attracts talent. A team full of talent, with access to state of the art infrastructure and the freedom to create, is a sure fire recipe for success. The chances of Newey tanking at AM are slim to remote.
@d.b.cooper1
@d.b.cooper1 Месяц назад
@@enigmaticdropbear I agree. But to many they've never see the bad years. People, especially in the fast news modern era are often remembered by recency bias & what they did last. I wouldn't say the chances are slim, statically they're more likely than not. Aston have already had huge wealth pre 2022 rule set with vast resources, yet they're lingering in the midfield often lucky to be in the top 10.
@sultanoftippoo3857
@sultanoftippoo3857 Месяц назад
I think it hugely depends on the balance of nailing aero vs. PU when the new regulations hit in 2026. The 2014 regs were skewed to PU which the Mercedes HPE team mastered (despite Newey and his team designing a superb car at that time), but the 2022 regs favoured aero and it was this that his team did a better job than anyone else (at least until this season when it’s clear the pack have caught up). If Honda can deliver a competitive engine and AN’s department deliver a competitive chassis, it’s highly likely they’ll clean up but there are lots of “if and buts” between now and then.

@@51madmitch if you listen to the interview with Adrian Newey he expresses his sadness of the perception of Max because of the bias British Sky F1 commentators which has cast him as evil compared to the Brit drivers…. Max says it as he sees it which is not arrogant it’s a no nonsense direct approach which is standard for all the Dutch people I’ve had dealings with over the years. I’m pretty sure Laurence Stroll wouldn’t care what you think about Max anyway and Aston would be better off with him than without.

Max to Aston Martin is not likely to happen. Lawrence Stroll is spending all that money for his son Lance to become WDC. That would never happen with Max Verstappen in the same team, so he does not want him.

I doubt very much if Newey can do magic much at this point. The ground effect era return was serendipitous for Adrian. His firsthand knowledge as well as his genius resulted in that great car. That is not the case now. Plus, he is old. No matter how much he or others think age doesn't matter, it does. It will. What did Einstein do in his later years. What does anyone do in their later years. Not much if they had a great early career. Physically and mentally the edge goes. Also, Newey had many years where his cars were not winners. And he also has "The Strolls" to contend with. Ok when things are good. Not when not.

Until Lance is sacked Aston Martin will have a potential of having 2 great cars but only 1 scoring points. So a constructors championship is miles away until the miserable woeful Lance Stroll is gone.

I simply can't see this working, Stroll Sr is a micromanaging egomaniac. It won't be fun, that is for sure.... So, my prediction is that Newey retires in 2027, being completely fed up with F1 and its corporate structure.

Even with everything you said, I still can't see why Adrian would want to go work for what's essentially a hobbyist team - one that exists only to fulfill Lance's F1 race driver pastime. And there is no way that Adrian's arrival is going to fool anyone working at Aston Martin F1 into believing that they are in any different situation. They all know that their employment is dependent on Lance's level of interest in his hobby, and that they are not primarily a performance motivated team.
@gpaje
@gpaje Месяц назад
Lawrence didn't buy the team with just his wallet, he represents a group of investors who will want to see a return on their investment, and if Lance Jr needs to go, he will. They are already prepping that possibility, with Lance himself mentioning going back to tennis or racing in WEC. Aston Martin exist to eventually be sold and make Sr a lot of money. They are putting all this investment, brought in Alonso, Honda and Newey, built a giant state of the art facility, and you think it's just a hobbyist team? No, they are building a championship team with expectations of selling, motivated by their investors.

@@gpaje LOL, you definitely drank the coolaid. First daddy 'bought' Lance his way into F1, then he bought him a seat in a team, then he bought a whole team for him, then he bought a 'manufacturer' so that he could call his precious spawn a 'factory driver, then they got exWC drivers to help with his development and do PR about his supposed abilities, then they spent a ton of money to make the team as fast as possible so Lance could hopefully win something. I don't think you fully understand the concept of 'having more money than you know what to do with', or the power and leverage that comes with that status. Alonso, Newey, Aston Martin, etc are all just toys in the Stroll toybox. Some cost a little more than others, but they're all just the playthings of a spoilt brat. Imagine yourself playing the F1 manager game ... just with real people and real money. That's what billions of dollars enables you to do.
