“Just because something is popular in the fragrance community does not mean it’s popular with the general public” is the truest statement I’ve heard within the fragrance community thus far.
Came here to say the very same thing. Well said, Michael. I love Oud Wood and have yet to encounter a single person who’s even heard of it, let alone smelled it. They all love it though. I do feel the performance is disappointing, but it smells absolutely beautiful.
Yup….as POPULAR as Creed Aventus is, there are still MANY times people have to ask “what is that?” (Me) “Creed Aventus”. (Them) “Creed What?” Some people are more hip to it now due to social media influencers and Ads, but the average Joe only knows what’s sold in Dillard’s/Macy’s
it sucks how snobby we as people in the fragrance community can be. I always try to be humble and appreciative for anything (and not just limited to fragrances). Even though my nose is still developing and maturing, I can easily tell a great quality fragrance. I was blown away after sampling Oud Wood at my local Nordstrom
TF Oud Wood was my #1 gift suggestion for Mother’s Day. It smells so freaking delicious on my skin - literally makes my mouth water. Also, my skin eats up most scents but this can easily last on my skin for a good 6-8 hours. I LOVE it!! A little pricey, yes but bc it last so long on me, it’s well worth the buy 😊 Great review as always Melissa ♥️
I'm not in the fragrance community. Oud Wood is by far my favorite scent of all time. I've NEVER met a single person who knew of it. When they ask what it is and I tell them the price 9/10 that puts them off, no matter how much they love it most people won't buy it. Oud wood is in no way, whatsoever even a 'popular fragrance', let alone 'overrated'.
I wore Oud Wood by 5 years,,, and i never felt someone wore Oud Wood around me or on the street... Its popular by name,,,,, but im sure not many people wore it...
Thats because not everyone can afford an expensive fancy cologne like you .Oud wood is overhyped like creed aventus.Tobacco vanille/tobacco oud and tuscan leather are far superior in projection, sillage and longetivity.Sure oud wood smells nice but its just overhyped and not a masterpiece.
@@devilsown1828 Im agree 101% with you!!! Regarding Tabacco Oud And Tabacco V are good in longevity,,,, projection nope,,,, Tuscan Leather are best in both, longevity and projection!!!
if i had to pick top 3 tom ford colognes in private blend then i would go for tuscan leather, ombre leather 16 and tobacco vanille.Better sillage and projection.Cheers !
@@devilsown1828 Yes, the two are masterpieces,,, they were an inspiration for all the perfumery houses!!! Almost everything TF put out was copied!!! Then there were perfumers,,, now most of them are xerox
I didn't think tom ford oud wood was all that at 1st but I love it , and it's one of my top 3 favorites. I get so many compliments . Great review Melissa.
I've been wearing oudwood for years and it's close to what I call my signature scent. You hit the nail on the head. You are 100% correct in what your saying.
I don't own this fragrance so I don't have any reason to brag about it's longevity, but I sprayed this on in a fragrance shop, and the next day I went to swim for 4 hours and afterwards I could still smell it. Almost all my fragrances last 4-6 hours on me, but this one last 24 hours easily on my skin. I don't get that people say it doesn't last long.
I own it and can verify, it has terrible performance. My mouth is hanging open with all these comments, talking about 7 hours, let alone 24 hours. This will project for maybe an hour then be a skin scent for 4... if your lucky.
@@anthonygartin895 Agreed. Even the unscented lotion method couldn’t stretch the performance of this fragrance for more than an extra hour (2 total). Tobacco Vanille kicks Oud Wood’s rear in comparison.
I liked tobacco vanille better when I sampled them recently at a Macy's.. The oud wood was on its list couple of sprays..I wonder if it was too old.. And that's why it smelt stink af to me and rancid almost like mildew or something...
CF did a recent street battle of Tom Ford fragrances that clearly showed women liked Oud Wood but preferred Noir Extreme over Oud Wood. Also they hated Ombre Leather.
The vintage Oud Wood with the Gold Label was totally worth it. Such a rich fragrance. The new silver label formulation smells like rubber tires with a hint of Oud wood - Very weak.
Have oud wood. Would say it's OK to my nose but I'm more a ombre leather parfum type guy. I agree with you on how things are diffrent in the real world vs fragrance community.
Oud wood is an amazing fragrance and indeed people around you will go crazy for it but just for 4 hours this fragrance is very weak for the price that they are asking for i bought the 30 ml and I don’t think I’m going to be buying it again
As fun as the deep rabbithole/iceberg/niche communities and knowledgebases are, perspective matters. I hadn't heard specific heat levels when talking about sweet/dry thresholds for fragrance wearing very often, so that's super helpful to adapt advice to their local climate. Hope you're doing well!
I actually enjoy wearing Oud Wood once in a while but I can't believe you didn't pick up on that tiny bit of "old" smell note in the background of this fragrance since your nose normally picks it up so quickly on other fragrances. Either-way keep up the good work! enjoying the content!
I'll preface this by saying I'm not a huge fan of it though I don't particularly enjoy oud frags in general so not a surprise. That being said just because I don't like it I'm hardly going to call it overrated, who am I to say to the millions who probably love it that they're wrong just because I don't agree with them. As we know fragrances are sooo subjective so I never get caught up in the hype whether it be love/hate. I purchase a fragrance purely based on what I like the smell of and not if the frag community are raving about it (or bagging it)
Thanks for the great review! A Neiman Marcus SA gifted me with many samples of this one and I LOVE it! And also love that it's not on the popularity level of a MFK BR 540
Tom Ford Oud Wood is Oooohhhhh Goood! I’ve never smelt Oud Wood on anybody before. The masses don’t even know about Oud Wood. Versatile and year around fragrance. Just control the sprays.
I'd be curious to know what you think of Marc Antoine Barrior's Ganymede? It's definitely not for everyone, but a spray or two gets me many compliments and wears all day. Aquatic (not something I normally like), leather and wood. On clothes? Forever! I almost always wear "unisex" perfumes and even traditionally male scents, even though I'm very definitely a girly girl otherwise (well, womany woman at now 50!). Can't stand overly sweet/flowery. Love your videos and honest reviews by the way!
To me it smells like: Closet mothballs mixed with a three star hotel bar of soap + grandad vibes & a medicinal camphor scent. Very very synthetic: No oud and no wood in Oud Wood. Tried it twice and so far It makes me gag.
U can't really go by what guys are saying in the "fragrance community" even though i am a guy that for many years have collected, most guys in the fragrance community just lie a lot .They complain and go nose blind to things thus sparking and overexagerating "reformilation" vids, Reformlatuon is a obsession when in realty its one of the most over exaggerated things in the fragrance community. they say that everyone is wearing certain colognes so you the buyer shouldn't buy it, when in realty apart from blue fragrances no one in realty is wearing any cologne with any amount of consistency apart from your sauvages/blue fragrances, and we all know this. They complain about women not being as nose aware and only liking basic primitive scents when in realty some of the extra intricate ultra complex things that these guys rave about.....a lot of times, just stinks. Not to mention women senses are stronger. I can go on and on. But the point is......u can't really go by fragrance community guys. Many are a very interesting group of guys.
Couldn’t have put it better. I own a few Frederic malle, tauer, orto parisi, rojas and they are all nice scents to my nose. But out of ones I own my partner only likes Elysium and Orange Star on me from the aforementioned. I’m not a fan of blue frags personally; but she loves sauvage, BdC, allure homme sport and dylan blue…notorious fresh/blue frags. I recently acquired Aventus Cologne and tbh it’s already one of my favourite scents and i’ve already my partner says it’s her favourite yet; and everyone (well most people) at the office have asked what i’ve been wearing. For me that just proved that, yeah the portraits of a lady, bergamask, azraks, orange stars….they all smell nice to me; and that certainly counts, but if the people I love and care about can’t stand them… well it’s something I gotta consider. I’m not really fussed now if people think if aventus cologne is overrated, popular or a dime a dozen; I like it and so do my circle. So i’m going to wear it 🙌
@@Terrya5 i agree with you......and no matter what, if you enjoy your fragrances regardless of what it is you rock it. Its about what makes us happy at the end of the day & totally agree with your points and u actually have a brilliant collection there. Just making the point that women don't have inferior smells or senses as what many "fragrance community" guys rant about. I honestly feel sorry for beginner 20 age and below groups who are just getting into collecting and relying on the word of "frag community" guys lol. Most of these guys like how complex a fragrance is vs the actual scent of said fragrance. The scent for them is the last thing that they care about, so why belittle women when women choose how pleasant a scent is 1st foremost before anything its the scent for a woman. Now collectors like myself can appreciate both but I lean more to scent and I have them all. Frag guys in my opinion have legitimately made collecting more of A Jerry springer episode. I have talked to guys from frag forums, frag clubs, here and there for years. All these guys do is fight, bicker, and complain about things like none existing reformilation batches. Reformilation accusations is usually 3 things.1.You are nose blind and remembering a fragrance that you once had 12 years ago in a more sentimental way because it was your first batch and first love since then the way u smell & your take on fragrances is a bit different then when u smelled it 12 years ago (doesn't necessarily mean reformilation) in realty its 99% the same dna and u are likely nose blinded by way of those factors. 2. A feeling of wanting to feel special, as if you have something or versions that others don't have lol. I have seen guys completely lie about reformilation in an attempt to feel some sort of speciality higher archery and I knew it because I had all versions of said fragrance (I am telling u, frag community men are a very "interesting" set of guys) just a couple of months ago guys on the forum were saying 1 million lucky was reformulated. 1 million luckies bottle material was switched from a glass see through bottle to a amber dark bottle recently (a simple buisness decision that had nothing to do with the actual liquid) and frag guys came out in a rush saying the smell they were getting from the newer dark amber bottle 1 million lucky was nothing of the same as their older clear bottle. I have both & both of them smell the exact same, nothing has been changed in any way shape or form as far as the liquid goes...it got so bad where 6ixscents recently made a vid dispelling these lies ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XQFN6mXvm1Q.html 3. As you can see, guys find anything to fight and bicker about in the "frag community" even outright lying about a good a fragrance is. Reformilations happen but its way more rare then whats been put out. I feel sorry for new people thats trying to collect, these are the same guys who have flooded websites like fragrantica with their Jerry springer over emotional lying mess. Guys that say that things like dior homme intense is a top sexy bedroom most complimented scent. When dior home intense smells like (and I am not kidding) my late late, very late.. grandmothers mac up bag. & Everyone knows that. Again. I feel sorry for people who are just trying to get into fragrances and listining to frag community guys. As I have shown....they are a very special rare group of guys. And u must take everything with a grain. Extremely special group of guys.
@@Ehdidnxkdthis channel is great to follow for people who genuinely like fragrances. i like mellisa & her channel too because it seems she doesn't allow her opinion to be swayed or bullied based on irrelevant things. Plus, she is indeed a beautiful woman.......that doesn't hurt.
I've never gotten what everyone else gets out of this fragrance. I thought the first decant I got went bad, got another one from another place and it smelled exactly the same. I like other oud fragrances, so it's not a matter of my nose not being "sophisticated" or whatever snobby BS people will try and tell me. It smells like comet cleaner with a touch of rubber balloon. If some of those sweet notes were stronger, it might work.
I’m so glad I subscribed to your channel. I bought this blind and just received this today and LOVE it. I’m glad I added this to my fragrance collection.
To me Kilians Angel's Share is all hype and Overrated. But it does smell okay enough. So some of the ones who hyped Angel's Share up are the same RU-vidrs who hype Tom Ford Oud Wood up. I'm going to try it out but It feels like it will be Overrated. Cheaper ones smell way better. More compliments with Georgio Armani Acqua Di Gio than with Angel's Share. For 50% of the price.
To me, this definitely skews masculine despite being billed as a unisex fragrance, but hey, Good smells good regardless of who’s wearing it. Especially if you enjoy Oud-based and woody scents. TF Oud Wood is decent but not amazing and has average performance, and mediocre projection and sillage (unless you put on 10+ sprits). My main concern with Tom Ford is that while there fragrances are technically unique, they’re not must-own amazing (especially for the price) and they mostly have subpar performance (they’re usually gone within four hours and lack Good projection). But hey, don’t take my word for it…as always, you should try a sample before committing to the big bottle.
When I smelled it on a card my wife and I were like "thats nasty!" but then I put it on me and it smelled like a tobacco store and good lord I love it lol
I think oud wood is overrated because when I wore it my girl ain’t like it she actually did the stank face 🤣 and told me to go wash that SHIT OFFFFF… IMO I don’t think it smells good either idk oud wood ain’t for black ppl noses or skin
i smelled today the 95% dupe called oudy wood from maison allahambra ... and it doesnt worth even 30 $ smells outdated and boring, imagine payind 200+ for the same fragance
I like your videos but this oud wood fragrance is 💩!! Makes you smell like a funeral director or funeral home…it is a unique scent but not a good one and definitely isn’t uni sex whatsoever …but that’s just me i guess
