Had a DS that was in Ranger school while I was in basic. He came to us right as we were going to start hitting the range, and man was I a poor damn shot. I had never handled a weapon before and all the other DS were right handed. He got me so much trigger time. I qualified 35/40. He also taught me how to shoot rightie and lefty. He showed up and instantly knew exactly what I was doing wrong. Seeing his pictures of how much he weighed before leaving for Ranger school and how he looked then was nuts. They really barley eat. One thing I tell everyone about the military is they never taught me how to die. They taught me how to live. God bless.
As an old Ranger myself, I enjoyed listening to this interview. I miss the men I served with and that camaraderie you will never experience again. I was lucky to also have trained at Mott Lake back in 80. Those old Delta operators were a whole different breed. I’ll never forget Poole, Tiny and the Vegetable Man. Thank y’all for bringing back some good old memories.
It’s amazing that he’s been through Marine IOC and has been through Ranger School. Both intense leadership schools. I’ve always wanted to know what Ranger School would have taught me when I was a fresh 2nd Lt out of IOC.
