It's been a few weeks since Ready or Not 1.0's release. The core gameplay hasn't changed - Ready or Not still is generally speaking, a SWAT simulator. It's a tactical shooter that rewards you for taking it slow, teamwork, and decision making when shooting. But since it's release, some issues have surfaced as people have played the game more and more. And there's been many discussions about how detrimental these problems are for the game.
So, is Ready or Not 1.0 worth it?

You nailed my biggest problem which is the suspects acting waaaay to violently for normal people. Terrorists I can understand, but the robbers, druggies and other common crooks becoming John Wick the moment they hear “hands above your head!” a room away, breaks the illusion of this game being a SWAT sim. It also leads to repetitive gameplay where every enemy you face must be treated as Osama Bin Laden’s personal body guards.

Even high-tier enemies shouldn't be John Wick. Doesn't matter if they are terrorists (and being a terrorist doesn't mean you have proper training), ex-military/police etc., because firing MGs in full auto through walls while strafing and hitting every bullet, that's just retarded.

lol this is a FPS at heart not a true police sim as well as most of the swat games out side of maybe swat 2. If they just gave up all the time, people would be complaining they dont fight back enough. Pretty sure the former is better than the latter

SWAT 4 nailed it with the balance of die-hard criminals, those quick to surrender, and everyone in-between. Even the most aggressive suspects in SWAT 4 could be surprised in the right situation and bean-bagged/tasered/flash-banged/rifle-butted into submission. Meanwhile, half the guys in Ready or Not will soldier through a torrent of pepper spray and beanbag rounds before suddenly raising their rifle and taking out half your team.

in my first mission I tried to play like in swat 4: I sneaked into the gas station, saw an enemy with his back to me, pressed f to make him surrender and before my character had even finished speaking, he turned around and fired a hail of bullets into me. I killed him and soon after his friends all stormed towards our position, guns blazing

There's like 3 Factors in this game that makes me not recommend my friends to buy it: 1. As you said John Wick AI. With how fast and accurate these AI are firing while strafing, it looks like they're playing COD while you're stuck playing RoN. 2. Yeah sure they updated teammate AI, but I STILL can't position myself into a stack before a breach. It feels like I'm playing an RTS when commanding my Squad, because if I participate in the stack I get told that I'm in the way. SWAT 4 Flashbacks. 3. Where's the goddamn Fast Food Map?! That place has the best OST by far. I never knew Salt Shaker Type Beat would go so hard.

For 1, I feel you. Those methheads been to army sniper training. I use a mod that's similar to no Crack but a little harder. For 2, I've heard you need to let them fully stack up and then insert yourself.

I think the fast food map was replaced by Postal, I remember playing it and loving that quick snappy mission, then next update it had a huge extension etc. I think it got changed in development, into my least favourite map now lol

Speaking of stacking, you let the AI stack first then you can join the stack and Element will reposition. Its still a bad mechanic imma be honest, they should just let players pass through friendly AI like how the AI already does.

One thing that should also be mentioned, especially for people coming with the expectation of a modern SWAT 4: The briefings are beyond useless, and reading them actively harms you. The 2 very first missions are good examples. They differ incredibly from their briefing. 1. Mission - Gas station stickup, Briefing says 3 suspects, no body armor but under the influence. My SWAT 4 brain thought: "Ok, so go less lethal and shoot first because they may act stupid due to drugs." But what do you get? Way more than 3 suspects, fully automatic weapons, and of course the John Wick AI. 2. Mission - Briefing makes me believe its some sort of domestic issue, 2 suspects. I think ok maybe this time it will be a real "less lethal" mission. But no, this mission is filled to the brim with suspects and their automatic weapons. It just feels like a simulation Urban Warfare. Later I religiously used gas for clearing rooms whenever possible, but soon found out that we are not actually fighting humans, but Predators. Getting shot through the thick smoke of the gas is incredibly frustrating and it essentially removes the gas grenades from the game. I played more mission until I had 7 hours before quitting.

I can't get past the spider mission for those exact reasons as if a pedo photo studio would be full of private security people with automatic weapons, no matter how careful i play it and move my teams around i always get completely peppered by gunfire after clearing 3/4 rooms without any trouble

I thought the briefings being inaccurate were part of the story/immersion, where you can’t fully trust the info you’re getting. For example, that second mission you’re told someone killed their mother, but it turns out they were a streamer and someone was “swatting” them - it just so happened they were also involved in criminal activity and so coincidentally had a bunch of armed guards there.

I’m surprised there was no mention of how certain aspects of 1.0 are straight up downgrades. You mention replayability due to bringing different equipment but there was an even better system in place before 1.0. Different game modes/scenarios. Certain maps had different situations unfolding like hostage rescuing or active shooters etc.

The devs removed the game modes and changed many of the maps' layouts to fit more to the storytelling aspect, which I find lackluster anyway. My gripe is that people keep defending them even for removing one of the most popular features in the game.

@@waltmansan520 Why? That feature alone kept a replayability value to the game. Statistically, more people found that enjoyably and necessary for the dynamics of the game rather than being forced to play maps in a specific way. So why remove something that literally made the game better? In essence, sure, for the devs that eliminate somewhat their vision regarding storytelling, and while they're not obligated to do so, re-implementing the game modes will give back the game its replalyablity value, as well as peoples' trust back (for starters).

@@JADEK111 They will almost certainly add it back. The different modes also changed up the layout of some of the maps. They probably want to make sure each map has a good variant for each mode before reintroducing the feature.

Same here, I couldn't even pass the server room level without it. The AI would just aim bot me through doors and windows without the mod. Almost killed my fun of the game until I found the mod.

@@natedawg2.548 Almost the same, except what I did was just sending the AI in everywhere like they were lambs for slaughter, because especially on Mindjolt and Port, I was dead before I could even figure out where I'm getting shot at from.

SWAT 4 had a great system for hostiles with dynamic resiliance. Nothing fancy, just a factor between 0 and 1. It however felt like you could de-escalate most encounters and avoid fatalities, with some exceptions.

Fun fact : Back before 1.0 there is a fanmade website where you can create your own A.I tweak mod, it let you decide ALOT of things : suspect react time, accuracy, surrender chance, fake surrender change, affect by stun, gas, noise, ... And what made me laugh is that by game default, suspect will have almost 360 degree view when they are in "alert" mode. You read that right, when you alerted them by any action, they literally grow eyes on their back and become god, that's why you can't never surprise or backstab them when they're alert. Imagine you, a normal human being with only 90 pov in game, have to fight a bunch of John Wick with no limit vision and mad accuracy.

One issue I think you didn't mention is the absurd size of maps. Most maps feel larger than they need to be, even the smallest map will have half a dozen suspects. The larger ones with more than a dozen suspects feel absurd to assault with a 5 man team.

Exactly. Realistically, in most of these situations there would be a max of 5 people. If you watch videos of swat they're almost never fighting that many people.

@@ihs200 yep, police will always aim to outnumber the suspects they are trying to apprehend. i can't think of any situation besides a large riot where the police are outnumbered. especially in america, they'll send several squads worth and possibly armored vehicles to deal with one or a few guys. they should definitely be adding extra police unit ai that you aren't meant to command directly as much, but they'll provide support, particularly covering the outside areas of a map. i've seen many people try to justify this with "but the police in this game are underfunded!!" when clearly, they aren't. if they were, they wouldn't have access to such expensive equipment and a wide arsenal. a poorly funded police department has access to G36Cs and HK416s? lmfao

Honestly, my biggest complaints are the performance issues, annoying bugs, and everything related to the AI, the swat AI is quite okay but still needs a tremendous amount of work, as for the suspects AI they need to completely overhaul them (animations, aggression, tracking, accuracy, moral, stuns and concussions) I like the fact that they can shoot through walls and doors but the tracking just makes it unplayable in those situations.

yes, in greased palms the suspects start shooting through the openings and you can't see them, it's an open area so it looks like a war instead of swat.

The suspect animations also need some work. They aim down sights instantly if they hear or see you, even suspects with shades, or those who are concussed, stunned, and in the dark, among others. Additionally, they turn like tank turrets and, in my experience, never shoot from cover; instead, they expose themselves and shoot at you as if there's no tomorrow.

One funny ability they have is to INSTANTLY go full auto on a door the millisecond your foot makes contact when kicking it! I've used it as an exploit in some situations when there's two doors to a room. Tell team to make entry on door one then go kick door 2 the second the breach and the suspect will instantly turn to shoot at me even if their back was turned. They need some serious tweaking!

It’s weird bc I downloaded an invincible mod just to see what the suspects are actually doing when they aimbot and after the initial spin and shoot, they start going towards cover, moving into rooms or sometimes outright retreating

I've checked their behavior in replays, and they do all sorts of things. However, their first reaction is always to shoot at you, no matter what, if they hear or see you. Peek around a corner? They shoot. Make a sound? They shoot again. They must have developed bat-like hearing to pinpoint exactly who's running behind a wall. The same goes for peeking. How can they tell who's behind a door from across the map? Ref the Post Office map, where both civilians and suspects could be running and peeking through doors. I don't mind a good challenge, but this just crosses into the realm of the absurd.

The only time I *ever* had a suspect react realistically, was in the data center. My team was on the roof, and one of the center's security guards was on the ground level outside. Upon getting his attention, he did not immediately fire, only pointed his weapon. After a few tense moments, he shouted: "Let's just lower our guns, alright?" and he and I de-escalated as I thought about what to do. Eventually I shouted again, re-escalating, and he then got spooked and opened fire, forcing me to throw a CS Grenade. (or shoot him, I don't quite remember) If they could just apply more of this logic to ALL the suspects (except certain factions full of only extremists) instead of the AI from DOOM with some bells and whistles, the game could truly be magical.

agreed, I could have everything maxed out settings wise and still get 139fps. Now everything is on low so I can get over 100fps just for it to drop to 3 every few seconds. This was all on a 3080 from early access to 1.0. My buddy with a 4090 doesn't even get a smooth experience with everything set to low, yet he can play CP77 with all the settings maxed and path-tracing.

Another thing I hate, is how the rating system can screw you over. I am trying to S rank all levels and one time I shot one guy with a bean bag. He was the last one and finally arrested everyone. Then I got "Unauthorized use of force." Penalty for some odd reason but other times no issue

I completed S on every mission about a week ago and it was a hell of a challenge. Careful with those beanbag headshots. You just kill em sometimes. The pepperballs are much safer for getting S ranks

There are few things RoN still needs that Swat 4 espacially modded with stuff like SEF has. 1: SWAT sniper or even multiple is avaible in almost every mission for recon or even taking a shot. 2: Enemies sometimes wear gasmasks that make pepper spray and gas useless forcing you to change tactics 3:your actions throughout the mission has effects on the suspects example if you order them to surrender while they have their backs turned to you its almost always immediate surrender on non high suspects or if you killed too many suspects and/or shot your weapon a lot the suspects will either be scared and defend themselves to death or surrender more easly.

Bought the game for 50 dollars (and like 120 hours of gameplay time) and its not really worth it to the average person, the ai right now will ruin your mood and day but the replayability and content/idea is FANTASTIC. Only if you are heavily into the genre then its perfect for you ALSO, if you are one of those lore geeks, you will foam at the mouth with how much detail and backstory there is

I agree with idea of nurfing the a.i's accuracy; however, I believe there should be a tier list..so to say. Where as, say a street level drug dealer toting a AK with no sights or a meth head with a revolver shouldn't have the same accuracy as a group of well equipped and well trained ex-mil guys with aimpoints on a 10.5" fighting rifle. I also think the same should apply to surrendering, a militant shouldn't surrender as easy as a low level criminal.

There is, actually. Each mission has accuracy overrides etc, so it's all theoretically possible and iirc there are differences. It's just they're too minor to be noticable by the player, where it counts.

No, the john wick AI has ended so many runs for me and it just pains me. also the fact I am basically forced to run full less lethal missions like Nightclub and data center to get a S rank. "Ah yes it makes total sense to send a fully non lethal swat team into a situation where the suspects are fully armed with armor, assault rifles, suicide vests, ect ect and have already proved they are ready to kill on sight" Also the fact that SMG's are pretty much useless. oh and the fact if there is even 1 mere pixel of a object in front of a suspect it will literally block any throwable besides gas but even then, ive seen clips of the suspects getting stunned by gas grenades, walking away from the gas, and once outside the area of it's affected range immediately return to being normal while literally coughing up their lungs 2 seconds ago.

Just finished S rank on all missions about a week ago. It took 8 hours on my career playthrough. Yes there were some frustrating times but if you play smart and have few mistakes it's very doable. If they take the challenge and the threat away from the AI the game just wouldn't be fun.

My problem with 1.0 is actually not the fearless/laser-aim suspects, but how they changed the AI teammates room clearing logic. Previously, AI teammates stack doors like 3rd graders & often get shot dead as soon as the door opens. In 1.0, AI teammates will stack doors better. They'll also cover their rear & side. But when they enter the room, they have 0 regard for the relative position of each other. Often times they'll just scatter in random directions despite no one covering their blind spots. What's worse, as soon as they've cleared a room, they'll often instantly stack the nearest corridor/opened door and clear that space as well, without arresting any surrendered suspects. This kind of over-extending behavior usually results in them getting shot in the back. And....why the F can't I order AI teammates to shoot launcher? Why is this option limited to door entry? Not having to venture into a danger zone is the whole point of bring a launcher!!!!!

I wish they'd make actual briefings pre-mission, like SWAT4. Where you sit down and the commander explain the what, why and who. I wish suspects weren't always so aggressive and suicidal, so we'd feel like less-lethal was more justified. I wish civilians didn't just auto-comply, so like in SWAT4 pepper spray and tasers actually have a purpose. The game is definitely feeling more like a kill-house kind of game than a police one, but the pieces are all there for it to be a police game. There needs to be at least difficulty options if the aim isn't going to be nerfed, as this game really isn't about cracked out reflexes and aiming, it's about using your team and equipment to effectively manage the situation. A person shouldn't have to be a competitive FPS player to survive, it's not PVP.

The devs making this game look like it's having an identity crisis. It is marketed as a SWAT realistic shooter, but ends up being CoD from the suspect AI's side, and Squad overall as you find yourself killing almost everyone. I agree with you, the set pieces of being a police game are all there (almost), but they're not connected properly. It's a fucking mess.

There is a lot about this game I like and a lot I don’t. The level rating system is stupid when they wanna send in non lethal units into a war zone. Also the John wick AI is soo annoying, it’s hard to play with any tactics when we’re up against cheaters

Honestly John Wick is an understatement. The AI in this game have aimbot+wallhack levels of aim and tracking. Pretty sure people have timed their reactions, and they react faster than you with more accuracy in that time frame regardless of what they're doing. I've basically found having a shield is a requirement for most maps that aren't just crackheads in a crackhead situation.

One significant problem, is the fact that youre supposed to yell verbal commands to everybody, giving them the chance to surrender before you go lethal. Since the AI will laser beam you through walls, or the moment one single pixel of you nose peeks an angle, you dont ever get the chance to do that, forcing you to almost always be trigger happy.

For me, its all about the ballance, and this game lacks in that departement. The gunplay is cool and realistic, plenty of toys to play with, managing your team is simple and easy to learn, huge variarity of different scenarios..but enemies sniping you through boxes and shelves from the other side of the massive hangar while they had no way of knowing we were there is definitely unfair and discouraging. If they nerf enemy AI aim and awareness a bit then yeah, sure, id say its worth it.

I still vividly remember my first ready or not mission, it was around 2021 and i played the meth house mission, i remember going door to door using flashbangs or different entry methods as i saw fit and didnt fire my gun once. I even took notice at how compliant the AI suspect were, they would hesitate to shoot, most often they would try and flee so i'd often choose no armor so i could chase after them since i rarely got shot at anyway. Now getting suspects to comply is only used for the S rank tryhards and you need a super advanced strategy and a meta loadout to even have a chance at arresting suspects. Like I remember the "Arrest 3 suspects" objective being so easy on meth that i didnt understand the point of it, but now i actually have to try pretty dang hard to get it since I have to spam gas and beanbags and flashbangs and i have to beat them into compliance and such. Something that helped me with performance issues (I still get freezing and stuttering tho) is launching the game in DX12, makes my game get a more consistent framerate.

hey, if youre stuttering is still an issue, what helped me was going into Nvidia control panel > manage 3d settings, and under global settings changing shader cache size to 10gb.

One thing I would like to add about commander mode is that it doesn't matter, you can go into commander mode and nothing at all will effect your game, your officers can die or be sent to therapy and it will not effect your game at all. nothing bad happens, they should have added at least something like if you walk around the station some cops will say shit to you for letting officers die or if you let too many die or go to therapy you are force to use only a small amount of officers to come with you on the field like 2 or 1. I played all of ready or not in commander mode to the last mission and not once have I cared about the officers on my team because they have no feelings or are interactable in any way outside of missions.

I agree. If the suspects were more willing to give up (e.g., they just saw their companion get mowed down), it would add a little more realism. Also, complexity would be added to the situation because you risk excessive force if you don't give the other suspect a chance to give up. With the current suspect AI, we're being training to always expect a gunfight which is not realistic.

Some missions are terrorists. And swat's mission isn't to always arrest. It's to stop a threat. If ppl refuse to stop being a lethal then youll probably need to use lethal force. Plus a lot of these missions aren't set up as one or a couple guys. It's a whole team, which is rarely a realistic swat situation. When you have to clear a building that has 15 guys all ready to gun you down it is unlikely you will arrest all of them.

I’ve got about 30hrs in, having not played the EA version. Some additional thoughts: Pro: Visual storytelling is fantastic - tons of subtle clues and Easter eggs if one explores a bit. Music is extremely well done, very atmospheric. Level design is really interesting from an architectural standpoint. Shotguns are capable at ranges past spitting distance - rarely modeled in video games! Con: Pump shotguns cycle absurdly slowly. Slug-select drill not implemented despite having 2 ammo types. No option for breaching rounds in shotgun primary. AI teammates frequently get hung up and won’t execute a command, or move through a room, leaving you out to dry. Or, they follow too close and get you killed as you try to back up from a suspect mag-dumping through a wall as you come around a corner. AI can’t use the M320 launcher. They also can’t throw grenades into an open area.

I loved the early access killhouse with the catwalk above it so you can observe, it was fun to practise and make our own SOPs while 1 guy watches above and teaches the rest of the team.

The ai specially the enemies are in dire need of some tweaks but the flashbangs have got to be the most inconsistent thing ive seen in a game. You could flash the room and the enemy is either stunned for 2 seconds or eats the stun like a champ and wallbot aimbot headshots u in half a second

My complaint is they send 5 Swat officers for a building the size of what a military company normally would assault in MOUT/CQB. I understand that there is supposed to be a bit of resource management but with 18 suspects in a hospital thats way too hard to manage with at best 10-15 flashbangs. I can exit the mission but I can’t rearm if I walk out to the entry point.

I agree with everything you said here, good video! I do want to ask though, why is Ides of march so high up on people’s order of difficulty? I personally breezed through that map, I just left 2 guys out in the circular hallway, one watching one way and one watching the other, than I cleared the apartments one at a time with my other two guys. I also wedged any doors that I decided to bypass until I was ready to take down the room.

-Cracked out AI is the top complaint for me. Honestly I just shoot and clear the map like Rainbow Six terrorist hunt. Yelling for compliance just gets you a bullet to the face. - "Stress" System of Commander Mode is just annoying and broken. It does nothing to immerse myself in my squad. They go into crisis for shooting suspects trying to kill them, but are "content" when I get killed in a mission. - TOC still has missing voice lines like when you disarm bombs, he just says "entry team".....and then nothing. - Missing icons for cosmetics and HUD elements. Beanbag shotgun still shows as an AR on the HUD icons. - There should be more story than just "environmental story telling". No cutscenes, no dialogue other than just talking to TOC and a line about eating at diners as a kid from one of your SWAT AI team mates. There's very little here that actually brings me into a story. I'm more of a tactical tourist strolling through these maps. Sure, there are set pieces and things in the environment that do tell a story. Yes I can look at the environment and see these guys are making CP, or smuggling guns, but that's about it. Just clear the map, and click on the next map. - Mission design is all over the place. As many have pointed out, Greased Palms is just ridiculously large for a 5 man team to clear by themselves. - "Trailer" units almost never show up to secure evidence and civilians. - SWAT AI units just stop responding to commands

Idk if its just me but it should be like Modern Warfare 2019s mission where you raid a house late at night. Fixed scenarios that are completely randomized every time you replay. Having every map have this and have all sorts of unique scenarios play out would be gold. There isn't enough actions that suspects are taking. They just walk around then either shoot or don't shoot with the added bonus of faking surrenders or death. They hardly do anything else which gets old fast.

hoping things do get fixed by the devs when it comes to the overall aggression and accuracy of the suspects, but there IS mods that fix these issues and the major ones are even pretty highly customizable. i'm using "no crack for you" and it pretty much lets you fine tune your experience, it's so much more enjoyable now actually having decently accurate suspects in missions it makes sense (where they are trained insurgents) but also no more getting 180 1 tapped the second i walk into a room

The briefing also makes you sympathize with the suspects "some of them". They have story behind them to why they chose a life of crime..... Some missions make it near impossible to bring every suspect back alive ... and some missions are easier to arrest everyone alive due to a smaller parameter. The gun physics also is spot on in comparison to real life. Not many games have this. Recoil, Range effects where your bullet drops and if you go close to a wall it wont hit where your red dot is pointed at but where your bullet leaves the barrel "this makes a huge difference in hostage situations". After shooting about 1200 rounds of 5.56 and comparing it to in game physics ... this game mimics it to near perfection. Favorite weapon is still the Honey Badger tho and that uses the .300 blackout, it is a subsonic heavy round which isn't loud and packs alot of power.

I agree about the suspect AI being too willing to get into a shootout. I'd like to see the devs add a delay or hesitation for the AI before shooting, so you have that tense moment where everyone is pointing guns at each other before shit gets crazy. Sometimes it would end in cuffs, sometimes not.

If you’ve played SWAT 4, this criticism is especially true. SWAT 4, is a game where it is very possible to go through an entire mission without shooting anyone. It’s not like in RoN where it’s a ridiculously difficult endeavor to get an S rank. Where you basically have to use cheese tactics to get everyone to surrender. The early missions of SWAT 4 especially. Suspects often just run away from you. It’s actually rare for them to stand their ground and open fire. These missions just have too many suspects in general. One of the most enjoyable missions in SWAT 4 is the Fairfax residence. Just a serial killer, his kidnapped victim, and his mom who may or may not be somewhat aggressive or resistant to arrest. And the suspect is often easy to take captive. No massive shootout needed

The AI needs work and it should vary a lot depending on the map and who the suspects are. I am willing to accept that some of the suspects that have extermist motivations would be willing to risk going down fighting and that the suspects who are under the influence of drugs may behave in extremely irrational ways such as running directly at a squad of swat officers with a knife but a lot more should be reconsidering their choices in many of the levels. Same goes for their competance with firearms and tactical awareness, there are some suspects that are stated to be well trained but even they are overtuned currently. They need to be dailed in terms of their reaction speed and accuracy, suspects in missions where you are fighting junkies and random street criminals, they should be far less competent. I am mostly happy with how the Officer AI works, it would be nice if they added in offical support for issuing voice commands.

I almost always play with only one friend in a closed lobby,as most randoms just rush in and die and we like to take it slow. i would love for the game to let me have AI to fill in the empty spots so that we can have the bots covering flanks / provide support. currently we use a respawn mod with a shared 3 deaths limit as a replacement for the bots but the mod spawns you at the start and in the bigger (hospital / hokan) it takes minutes to regroup. also i hope there would be more gas station sized maps, just small scale scenarios that doesnt take ages to finish. i do hope the game fixes the shooting through walls things, and make suspect AI's skill and willingness to fight vary depending on the level. (night club shooter & border traffickers preferring to die and voll bodyguards & ends of the earth family more willing to surrender). perhaps the conflict can deescalate/ escalate as you find out more info of the suspects from the evidence in the map

Just to Add to the AI suspects issue, what feeds into the whole AI=John Wick is that when you shoot back them, they dont get effected like the player. When they shoot at you, you get suppressed and have lower accuracy because you cant see but they dont seem to behave realistically when you throw heavy fire back at their direction. I'd imagine drug dealers would dive for cover in a house where 4 SWAT officers are pouring fire at them. But no they just strafe like thats not happening and shoot you through objects like walls. Another issue is that they can see through opaque glass and curtains even though a human cant.

I'm of two minds with the current suspect AI. On the one hand, you're absolutely correct. For the aesthetic and gameplay loop the game is going for the AI definitely needs to be made more prone to surrender and lose its ability to dome you through a wall or instantly put a round through your eye the instant you see them. On the other hand ready or not's gunplay is so good that the rolling firefights that the current AI turns the missions into is very fun in its own right. Rather than outright keeping or changing it one way or another, I'd rather be given an option to adjust how the AI will act based on how I feel like playing at a given time. This would pair well with returning the old options of multiple scenarios for maps. In regards to the performance I personally haven't noticed much of an issue. Maybe that's because of my rig, maybe it's because I launch with dx12. I don't know. But I have noticed a solid improvement in the visuals which paired with suboptimal optimization for the improvements might be the reason why it's such a downgrade for others.

Honestly my breaking point for how I felt about this game came about at the Doll House Mission, there is armed security for a house where your only real goal is to arrest the pedo, you go in and they all have machine guns and unload into cops. But when you arrest them they say they are sorry and it’s just a job or that they have kids. If that were true you wouldn’t have killed a cop trying to arrest your boss -.- I think this game would improve so much is the ai and how they acted was mission based, yeah stupid people shooting up a gas station or the cartel they can just shoot on sight not surrendering that’s fine but vets who want to call the radio station and are protesting in their eyes? They light up fellow cops. And for non lethal not always working I can accept that as that’s realistic but make it variable. Not working well on meth heads or soldiers but it works great on generic people

Yep, you’re pretty much spot on. However, I do appreciate how difficult the enemy NPCs are, that forces the team to be tactical and methodical on how to win the match. But yes the NPC constantly see you through concealment while we cannot see them. Hopefully that gets fixed. Even though I seen some of the issues, me and my buddies are still enjoying the game. Thanks for a great video.

they shouldn't be this cracked or aggressive. because that just doesn't happen in real life. the suspects should be holding back and trying to ambush you rather than rush because they don't have the upper hand that would make being so aggressive viable. generally in most police shootouts that happen in buildings, the suspects will always be on the defense because it's obvious that rushing a squad of armed officers gets you turned to swiss cheese. they also shouldn't be trying to wallbang nearly as much. wallbanging should only be happening if they WITNESS you going behind a door, and they pop off like 3 shots, and no more than that. i've watched a lot of bodycam videos of shootouts and i've never seen anyone actually try shooting through walls. although, another thing i've never seen mentioned is the civilian ai. honestly one of the worst things that's just gone unnoticed. they're FAR too stupid. even for someone in a tense situation like what happens in the game. they just stand there like nothing is going on, then stare at you and yell at you randomly. sometimes, even taking out their phone to just take a picture of you. i understand it's to trick you, but like... what? nobody does that. nobody goes for their phone to take a picture when they're looking down the barrel of a gun. their immediate reaction should be to panic or get down, and no one goes for their phone camera when they're in a panic LMFAO. the devs of this game are so out of touch, it's unreal.

I think a huge fix for the issue of AI aggression/over saturation of gunfights would have been to give a lore reason for a particular group of enemies spread throughout the state to be basically shoot on sight with a normal distribution of other types of cases between. In other words, maybe a literal insurgency or violent doomsday cult is active in the region, and every couple missions you either happen to stumble on them in the course of what was supposed to be a normal case, target one of their known hotspots, or have to figure out with clues who is who in the heat of the moment (like some troops had to do in Afghanistan etc). Then you’d always be in edge, particularly in the latter half of the game when it ramps up, about whether or not you were facing one of the big enemy faction or whether you were just rolling the dice with a normal civilian/criminal, and of those their reactions should be much more normal. This would give plenty of opportunities for fun, tense firefights, but also plenty of opportunities for advanced tactics and smart arrests. The consequences for shooting civilians would be more severe, as would the consequences of not shooting the main enemies in time.

1. Suspect AI (obviously) 2. SWAT AI still has a couple of placing/path finding issues on later maps (clearly an issue where earlier maps were tested WAY more than later ones. Even Baldur's Gate 3 was guilty of this) 3. SWAT AI rules of engagement needs tweaking. They will reliably fire on suspects only when they are already being shot at even though actual ROE allows the player to use lethal force as soon as suspects aim their firearm at anything. (maybe I should ask around if this is also modable)

Personally I feel like they should add sprinting in the game because sometimes, when your teammate is in danger or you need to quickly rush to a place, you can't be slow walking there. Personally your analysis is on point, but my biggest gripe with the game is the AI animations. After thousands of gameplay I feel like they look so generic to look at. They move like gremlins and some of them also have John Wick level of accuracy. This is why sometimes I prefer rainbow six siege gun play instead of ready or not. You can prone, run and crouch, unlike ready or not, you can only slow walk.

Because the devs changed their methods or philosophy with how they want to visualize RoN or whatever, so that alone impacted on the game. Then again, another problem would be the fact that they lacked a proper project management with quality control, so much so we get the so called "1.0" update which can be regarded as an extended package for the EA version than a full game.

A friend bought me RoN a few days ago as I really liked the look of the game but $75 kangaroo dollars($50usd) was too much for a game that I would mainly only play with friends. I have about 8 hours play time and most being in the 'commander mode' using gas and non lethal as I enjoy that. I am having more fun then I though I would have in the singleplayer. ALTHOUGH, I was given a mod to make the AI more realistic. I played the 1st 3 missions with out the mod. I say the game is worth getting if you like the idea of a slower paced SWAT / old Rainbow Six style shooter, I do also think its a little expensive but definitely worth it if this is the type of game you are looking for

Back then ive played Rainbow Six Vegas, SWAT 1-4 and so on and the suspects gave up if they had no chance to survive. Rarely they put up the fight when you aimed at them or did something to distract them. Some took up their weapon if you turn away from them and many other things made these games feel realistic. Ready or not looks good overall and it offers co-op, what is a big YES for me and my brother playing together, but what ive seen from the AI is a bit strange....they barely give up, even when you aim at their head and their accuracy is aimbot like 😕

I'm hoping the enemy AI gets more realistic. It just doesn't make sense some drug dealer has insane reaction times and pinpoint accuracy. It would make sense for the veterans to be more accurate with their shots compared to other enemies. It would also make sense for them and the school shooters to more actively engage the SWAT team. But overall the AI is way too agressive like you said. As for the performance, I have a Ryzen 5 7600X and a Radeon 7800xt and still have framerates drop to 30 sometimes with the game using a steady 12gb of vram at all times. Sometimes even spiking to maxing my GPU using it's full 16gb vram.

The vram is purely trash optimization. You don't need even 8gb to run it at max I guarantee you. All devs have been beyond lazy since nvdia started cranking vram size. Instead of bothering to optimize they let their trash game eat as much as it wants. I.e loading the same thing many many times.

Another complaint I've seen is that there's been quite a lot of cut content, like ladders, 8 player sessions, female officers, removal of different game modes to the maps, and a few dozen other things I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm honestly not too bothered with it generally (it's not like it can't be added later on), but I do question it, like why they removed different scenarios with maps. The biggest complaint is definitely the performance (my game crashed so many times after the 1.0 update). The 2nd biggest complaint for me is definitely that the AI suspects are too OP and they desire to kill you at every turn (sure some of them will, like radical terrorists and some drugged folks, but still).

Suspect archetypes for sure need an overhaul. Terrorists esp the veterans having better accuracy even when flashed etc makes sense. When fighting "the hand" terrorists, refusal to surrender makes sense, but when you kill a random thug's buddy when theyre robbing a gas station, there should be a random but higher chance theyre more willing to surrender or even hesistate before raising their gun at you Thugs should be more willing to surrender when faced with multiple officers Methheads less likely to be stunned by shots The war veterans more likely to flank/take cover The list goes on, but suspects shouldnt all be able to 360 no scope just because you peeked a door

It's also not immersive, really. Suspects should be doing NORMAL things, sitting on a chair - lazy and keeping a somewhat watchful eye out, cooking, sitting on a couch and watching T.V. As it is now, it seems like RoN is just suspects standing around WAITING for something to happen at any point and any time. Beyond barricaded suspect and armed active shooter missions, I do not think they should be constantly vigilant

The enemy AI is honestly the biggest problem. The ammount of times i have been shot without line of sight is ridiculous. The performance isn't great either. In fact the game doesn't fully utilize my GPU which leads to massive frame drops to the point where this game is unplayable. Another thing is the weapon balancing and attachments. E.g. some 5.56 rifles have way more recoil than both of the .300 blackout rifles (irl .300 blackout has about 3 times the recoil of 5.56). Grips feel pointless, some sights are off, the higher zoom ones don't work properly , supressors are useless, because there is no stealth... the AI notices you from 4 miles away.

I swore when I last tried pre-1.0 which was just mere days before 1.0, suspects ai was much "better". They weren't smart or contextually reactive but they're far less aggressive. Suspects in 1.0 treat crime scenes like they're defending the motherland. In the mission "Ends of the Earth", despite being hit enough with 5.56 JHP to stagger the suspect and being demanded to comply, the suspect refused to comply despite the injury and ample time (context of the mission made me hesitate to go for the killshot, it's AI SWAT who finally incapacitated the suspect). Previously, AI suspects tended to give up if their injury was significant but here everyone seemed to be amped on something to get zipped in body bags and not cuffs (strangely, more-well-trained suspects have tendencies to surrender, even mid-gunfight). It's not empirically researched since Streamer mission was like a Fallujah to me with my first time facing a hostage standoff despite being pretty active since its implementation in early access, but for someone it's a relative quiet mission. Since I have bought the game in early access, I think I got my money worth. But for newcomers and returning players for the official release, I felt somehow it's harder to get in - especially due to suspect AIs which I think Void may have dialed them up way too much. I'm sort of confident it will be ironed out but not that soon. Good thing my da was distracted by Grand Turismo right now, or else I would have to sit him down and explain how criminals of Los Suenos work, judging by his bar, the game's not exactly ready. You nailed it. On top of every suspect just john wicking their way, the enemy A.I. is ridiculously aimboting and wallhacking through smoke and walls. I think they could actually update the A.I. to actually run away from encounters, rather than just strafe shooting and nailing a headshot from a mile away.

Somehow the game runs smooth for me. The Ai of the suspects is stupid but the fact that you can easily install mods within the game, makes it a lot more enjoyible

I was happy I bought it early access on sale too I’ve had a blast in this game my only complaint is my frames drop on valley of the dolls mission but every other map is good enemy AI was op but it seem to be fixed atm at least for me

team mate AI needs heaps work. John Wick baddies are one thing, but when its Wick vs a blind toddler it kinda sucks. An AI overhaul with more realistic detection would be great. I find my team constantly demands surrender from enemies in the next room over, behind cover. Then said enemy lights us up through a wall and that's that.

I like your approach of incapacitating a suspect when they are shooting at you, rather than trying to get them to comply, even ChrisTheCop shot a suspect because the suspect was right next to a civ, because he said it was a hostage situation waiting to happen

i feel like the grade system should be tied to difficulty. different grades correspond to harder ai that use different guns/ better armour/ more aggresive aim. So that you can get higher grades without having to use non lethal in a game so focused on gun play. because you cant get anything higher than a C if you dont shoot every enemy you see with a beanbag shotgun before they can whip around and blast you through the wall with a pistol.

The game currently feels more like original Rainbow Six but with only one team, no sniper/Helicopter observation support with suspects running free outdoor. Every suspect is guaranteed to pull out another weapon if you take too long to arrest them while dealing other threats, there is no randomness. SWAT 4 is still more polished game than RON imo.

I wouldn't necessarily call Commander Mode micro-managing - it's just some minor team managing through switching out officers if they end up stressed or a casualty. The officers also unlock beneficial traits if they survive, incentivizing you to keep them alive instead of just shrugging off losses. But otherwise, I agree 100% with this review.

Personally, I think the game could really use a short range sprint/dash to cover with this patch but that might be with how cracked the AI seems to be. Like Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 added sprint right. Also miss the maps having variable mission options, and do think the active shooter missions should be random numbers of enemies but bias towards 1 shooter.

Really good idea behind your layouts for revision of games and reviews. Much respect, and appreciation. Ever play hitman? I’m currently only about 2 months in and holy fuck… talk about having to take your time and not just do what these games push you to do. I can’t play games like this anymore. It maybe a little different. But it’s all so similar that it doesn’t peak any imagination or fun to me. But I still crave it greatly? I dunno if anyone else has the same problem? I know the answer, I’m just old now. But I dunno strange feeling.

i think they can expand the types of non dfeadly weapon. But before that, they should work on the SWAT AI since they don't do the teaser and peper.....yet giving them non deadly guns might probably send them to die. Next, I don't know who is clver enough to modi SWAT AI to hot head, hot enough to a point they could now kill civi in cross fire....Now, the biggest issue is, they would like to do SWAT 4 but they didn't provide a setting that allows it. I think the ROE in general for military shoot to kill is very ok, even if civi die...so it feels like we are fighting military with police ROE. they should class the suspact AI and allow shoot to kill in heavily armed or bomb maps. Moreover, they should fix the frist respond for suspacts, if yell for comply= shooting back, they can't blame us for killing suspacts (deduct marks and no S) The overall gameplay exp is bad in the sense that i will die if i rush in the scene to be the spare on the team but i will only be a AI commander if i just let AI do the dirty work (which is how i play now = =) They should introduce a level editor where we can decided the will to give up for the bad guys as well as their number, along with the civi (something the SWAT 4 has) I also believe they could have some level where civi are forced to dress as bad and the bad could post as civi (kind of did that in the hospital level?)

Its been a really fun game so far i just think some animation is too ... weard could be better. For example unlocking a door with a tool. Im unlocking it with a tool watching the sky. And another example is that when you wanna handcuf a enemy it can glitch in walls. But overall its pretty decent. And i hope more missions will come and some GUI changes in the map selector.

Doing S-Ranks in this game, especially Greased Palms, has LITERALLY been one of the most frustrating experiences in my entire gaming life. Wiping to the same bosses over and over again in Sekiro was genuinely less irritating than this, jesus FUCKING christ do they need to tweak the AI. There’s a difference between challenging and downright abusive bullshit.

5:15 Although I agree with this sentiment. Think about how many people's lives, attitudes, personalities, and mentality has changed since the lockdowns and the fentanyl that has flooded into the country. I know a couple of former policemen who have retired or ended their careers early because of how drastic the field and people have changed. And if R.O.N.'s universe is even worse than the climate now. I could believe that anybody and anyone would be extremely trigger happy with the cops, especially SWAT teams if they have to be called on.

Great video and analysis! The only complain I personally have about the game is the same I already had before 1.0: the freaking suspects shooting like John Wick on steroids. Man, they can be annoying. All of the rest is perfect for me, the performance seems exactly the same (although I've only played until Brisa Cove after 1.0), the SWAT AI is waaaay better, and we got new maps and old maps overhauls. 9.5/10 game for me.

It's fair to say that commander mode has a very tedious retry system for missions, because it doesn't have one. If you die in a mission, you have to wait, see the screen of your officers getting anxious, click "go to department", wait for it to load, spawn in a random place in the precinct, walk towards the briefing room, select the same mission, press "Y" to confirm, wait 10 seconds, and load the map again from 0. I get that it's for realism because you are supposed to be 100% dead in that mode, and need to manage your AI squad in some point away from action, but man, every single time you die? In a game where the enemy AI can tap your eyes in less than a second through the wall?

Honestly, if they just take the No Crack for AI mod and incorporate it, the game is solid. It feels like a SWAT game. But in the state its in, its 100% you vs AI that can predict the future and shoot you through walls.

On the point of modeling guns and reload animations ready or not is phenomenal don’t get me wrong but another favorite shooter of mine with (imo) equally as good reloads and high quality weapon models is Insurgency. The graphics aren’t as good as RON but the sound design for each gun sounds almost exactly like the real thing

Ally AIs can also be extremely jank at times, I had a few times where I tell them to stack up or move in to clear, they either walk off elsewhere or just stare at the door

This isnt a rare bug, if ANYONE played this game for a hour straight theyd see that the swat AI needs as much work as the suspect Ai, cause they CONSTANTLY get stuck and walk into non related areas. This never happend until 1.0
