When I see people with diabetes refuse to change their diet, even when they can see plenty of evidence all around them that shows a low carb diet would help them immensely, I know they have an addiction.

I took care of many diabetics in my career as a nurse. Most of them had amputations and many had to go to dialysis every few days. Not one day went by where I didn't find candy and other junk food wrappers in their bedroom garbage can, and it was no use trying to talk to them about healthier eating. And then, imagine the dietitian telling me it was ok to give them a dessert after a meal when they were having regular episodes of hyperglycemia for which I had to give extra units of insulin. Absolutely mind-boggling.

Judge not, lest you be judged, especially if you're in medicine Jason Fung states 50% of folks on dialysis resulted from diabetes. Just remember, all of medicine is judging your choices as well & Will blame you for any ailments that arise. That what the profession does best.... besides lawyering up.

Sugar addiction is so much worse and harder to beat than any other drug, whether it be tobacco, alcohol or hard drugs. Why - because sugar is EVERYWHERE, in EVERYTHING, and placed EVERYWHERE, in EVERY store, it's put into EVERY food you get, if you go to restaurants, to parties, in schools, workplace cafeterias, even in hospitals, simply EVERYWHERE. And it's so normalised as a vital and omnipresent part of our culture, that it's almost impossible to socialize without being offered foods or drinks filled with sugar.

I agree. Just reread the ingredients on a package of frozen chicken nuggets that I buy specifically because all of the ingredients are also in the typical household kitchen pantry, no added chemicals. Third ingredient after chicken and water, sugar! Not only has the chicken been marinated in sugar but sugar is also the second ingredient in the breading! So depressing!

Anything can be addictive so the answer is certainly yes. I personally think cheese is more addictive.😜. Addiction can be easier to break than the actual habits that are formed by it

Milk has casomorphins which are a type of opioid. Evolutionarly they arose because it was important for a baby animal to be highly attracted to their mother's milk. That's why weaning a baby can be so hard. Many cheeses concentrate these compounds making them more addictive

The stone weight system has ancient roots, tracing back to when traders used actual rocks to weigh goods. Different places picked their own local stones as standards, so the weight of a "stone" could change depending on where you were and what was being sold. Romans made stone weights based on their pound unit, but these weren't always consistent. You can still see some old examples in museums today. Yale's Medical Library has some fancy polished serpentine weights, while the Eschborn Museum shows off a big sandstone one. Fun fact: our word "pound" comes from Latin. The Romans used "libra pondo" to mean "a pound by weight," and we kept the "pondo" part.

Firstly thank you...as someone who has transitioned/is transitioning to a keto/carnivore way of eating from carb/sugar/low protein base from child into adulthood, I recognise a paradox: if sugar stimulates dopamine/feel good...then why do keto/carnivore that they have brain clarity and feel good?. I wonder if sugar depresses the dopamine system, thus a wanting of more? A friend once told me that it took two years of feeling that they no longer wanted to smoke in terms of craving. Is it the same for sugar: I am certainly recognising this, perhaps it will end then...I do dearly hope!

In UK obesity is being normalised now, and the severe effects are being downplayed or ignored. Low carb was the only treatment for diabetes way back. In Sweden diabetes was called "sugar-illnes", and sugars were a definite no-no.

I am a very strong person and achieve everything i set my mind to but sugar, salty carbs, alcohol etc are designed to be addictive and its not just will power to give up. It takes much more education and changing of habits behaviour and thinking. Its compkex but i have achieved it so i speak from personal experience.
