Don’t replace until you have too. Not everyone’s Harley is making enough HP or TQ to warrant it. I’m running a S&S 124T so it was a no brainer.

I switched to chain drive after my belt broke ( rock in it). It leaves you stranded and is a big job to replace. A chain can be replaced on the road side and replacement chain is easily found.

Chain drive is not for everyone, but it does make gear ratio changes so much easier and faster. Clearly better for dual sport and off road use. Even a small rock between the belt and pulley will ruin your day. Stop trying to argue your point with these people that have a different opinion, or think they know more about what you need than you do. It's not worth your wasted breath. Ride yours, your way and enjoy life. I'm personally looking at changing my sporty to chain drive as well. I have a sidecar mounted to it and could definitely benefit from more low end torque. I don't need to take it 120mph with the sidecar on it 😉. I had (self proclaimed experts) people telling me all the reasons why I didn't want to do the things that I absolutely wanted to do with MY BIKE too 🙄. I think you're doing good with this channel. Keep it up. 👍

Just finished installing my chain kit, now waiting for the weather so I can take her for a ride (I have nerve issues in my shoulder that are affected by cold weather, so not much riding below 50 for me).

I don't know why you would want a chain again. I remember riding with a chain long ago and they are always stretching.

Chains from long ago are not the same first of all. Quality chains on these 800+ pound Harley’s do not stretch at all after the first initial break in (which is super minimal to begin with). Chain technology has gotten much better not only with chains but the products used to clean and lubricate them as well. They have many pros to them over belts. The only chains that typically stretch are trash brands that are very cheap

It is the case I promise. I’ve had it on two personal bikes and helped a few people put it on their bikes. Know many others who have them installed for several years with much less maintenance than is recommended and have 0 issues with anything.

Traded my Africa Twin and chain maintenance in for a '19 Fat Bob with a belt. No I'm not swapping for a chain! (Love the Fat Bob!)

I promise chain maintenance is super easy with the quality products I listed!! But obviously a belt requires almost 0 maintenance

@@RidinDad I used Motul and was very happy with clean/lube, no mess. great product. but my stage one doesn't need a chain.

Power is not the main reason to go to a chain. But as long as you’re happy with whatchya have now that’s all that matters. I used to use motul also and had no complaints but the muc off and maxima work a thousand times better

Hi Chris, AWSOME video. What gear ratio with front n rear sproket for 20 low rider s? I want to keep it stock configuration unless you have better suggestions. Appreciate it.

All right, so if you want to keep it stock, you have a couple different options for the most part. Any chain conversion kit you decide to go with should tell you what the stock gearing is for you to get a comparable set up. Weather is Speed Kings, Bulkin, Bung King, sprocket center, any website should give you what the stock gearing would be as an option

Im converting my Buell XB9SX to chain right now. Whats the long term effects on your bike since converting to chain?

Nothing bad. No issues on any of my bikes I’ve converted or any bikes I’ve helped with conversion. Still haven’t had to replace either sprocket or chain. No issues with wear. Bike handles great still.

Lolol. I only do because I am so paranoid that the one time I don’t is the one time I am going to need something and then won’t have it. In my entire time traveling, which, unfortunately, is not that much on the bike, but still, lol, I’ve only had to use my stuff for other people’s bikes, which is still a good reason for me to have it, because I was able to help out somebody else with my tools. But thankfully, I’ve never had to use them for my own stuff because I maintain my stuff and make sure everything is in working order prior to the trip.

Would 55 teeth be enough to make a noticeable increase in torque, but still keep enough speed at higher RPMs for touring purposes? What RPM are you at riding 70+ with a 58 tooth sprocket?

Yes you’ll feel it. And I don’t have this bike anymore I don’t remember what the rpm was like on the highway. But I only bumped up my tooth count by 3 on my low rider s and I can feel that difference for sure. Rpm only changed about 500-800 higher depending on speed
