Is the 2019 Ford Mustang GT California Special the BEST convertible? 

imagine buying the California Special in California state but get pulled over by the police and slapped with a $1000 exhaust fine for being loud. That will be a really sour irony for a special Mustang. That state is getting nuts

Me personally, I think the strip on the bottom makes it look like regular mustang, with the stripe in a different spot makes it look special and I fell in love with the California special logo in the rear, I'd pay big money for that! Well done Ford. Awesome review Joe and Tom , Thank you!!!

Perfect convertible for FL weather, that sound never get boring for sure. IMO, mustang will keep outselling the competition. You get more for your money, looks way better, better performance and way more support from the aftermarket. Great stuff Joe, BTW congrats on the 30K man, well deserved.

Great review! As a owner of a 19', GT/CS I really enjoyed it and also your recent CS coupe review too! I agree with your "Nit Picking"....... to a point. The front spoiler / splitter IS a Performance Pack item, check the spec sheet, it's visibly bigger then the standard. The mid-door side striping, fake side scoop, and offset grill emblem are positioned to follow the original 68 GT/CS, which I believe Ford did the right thing in following the original. A little over 4100 68's were built, thats it! There was also a "High Country Special." An original big block GT/CS is pushing $150K+, a really rare car! BTW the break in period is 1000 miles and recommends no redlining, just saying. Keep up the good work!

That thing rips. Nice POV of the on ramp pulls. I agree with you on the stitching and not being in places as you would expect at the 50k plus price point. And I never even had the thought of the idea of a Convertible Challenger...Mind was blown.

Great review! That 5.0 is a sweet engine. The CS May be special but with the additional suggestions you made it would be more special but so would the price. I was never a fan of convertibles but if I lived in Cali or Fla. I would consider it. 👍👍

I really....REALLY like the GT/CS and I wish it was available here in the UK. I'll take mine as a Fastback though, but I'd have that 10-speed. Not in black though.....I have 2 black Mustangs already and keeping them clean is a full time job! Perhaps Race Red, as it'd work beautifully with the red stitching inside! Keep that Mustang content coming! :)

It's a gorgeous car, If I didn't have to deal with Canadian winter, I would definitely get one.

The 15-17 mustang actually has a mustang emblem on the hood hidden behind the hood insulator. I wish they would have kept doing that.

Hey Joe, great review! I love the door inserts and the red stitched Dash and center console. Wish I could find that for my ride. As far as production numbers the California Special came back in 2007 and was available every year since then except for 2010 and 2015. Every time I see that digital dash it just makes me want to run to my car now!

I would like to install the CS grille and the glossy lower portion on my GT convertible. Fake scoops get on my nerves and I don't like stripes. Cannot get the Performance Pack nor MagnaRide on the CS. You are right, it is very quiet with the top down, except for the awesome exhaust note!

I had a 2014 gtcs had an accident just bought my 2019 2 days ago and I'm really really impressed love mustangs the audi a5 just didn't do it

I'd also Zonk the fake side scoops. We in the UK buy more soft tops than any other EU market outside Germany. So much for needing a warm climate to use one !

Great car. I missed my chance on the 2007 generation GT/CS. I bought my 2006 Mustang GT a year too early. Maybe I'll get one from this generation if its not to crazy pricy.

That is the gt pp front splitter. You got it right on the white one you did. It has that and the brace over the engine from pp1. No brakes suspension or tires tho.

Buyer better be damm happy with the package because there are no options on,wheels ,interior ,brakes ,no magnaride ,no preformance pack,only 5/10 colors on the palette,no black out allowed ,no 3.73 gears ,however i do think it would be easier to take in the soft top especially in california special emissions state.so why would anyone want the pp front spitter? further that california special srcipt on rear decklid panel is a far cry from the chrome script on the 68

I think you nailed it on all the zonks and non zonks.....if it had 500 HP. = to first year viper 10 cyl...52K..Vet territory But a worthy choice...if your a ford fan......Hope 10 speed lasts..with that HP..and torque....conclusion. 👍

Whew don’t know why anyone wants to drive a top down car in FLORIDA? I got some relatives that live there and it’s a scorcher where they live. Although In the winter it’s not bad. You did get that right rati the mustang has a way better arm rest storage, they didn’t even try in the camaro

Okay, "with that being said, " yeah, that's not much better is it? Okay, here's some of my knit one pearl two comments: 1. I won't re-comment over your Zonks because I agree with all of them. 2. But I will enhance some of your Zonks. A) The side stripe should be moved down and it should be done in red. B) Keeping the above in mind it would join the brake calipers together, which should be done in red. C) I would like to see the shock tower strut support done in red. 3. Now here's one you missed. The front chrome emblem. Hey, I like chrome and I like the emblem, but I have to question it's offset location. I think I'd remove it and then "play" with centering it first and "play" with an up or down location or a possible elimination of it. Maybe just use under the hood somewhere. 4. Lastly, I would not call it the "California Edition" any more. Ford paid their tribute to California already with the name in 2018, so drop the name. Plus, I don't know how well the name is received by the other state dealerships. GM did something similar when they came out with the Corvette Malcom Konner Edition because of Konner's unbelievable high sales. Nice tribute, but because of all the "flak" GM received from competing dealers, they never did it again. Now I've really got to get back to my knitting before my sheep stop producing wool and start keeping it all to themselves because of the frigid temps. Oh yeah, how about getting back to some McLarens? They've been my easiest and shortest comments ever in that the only item I'd mod on them is the front emblem. I'd remove and have it air-brushed in. Less wind resistance. lol Save the Wave and hustle your bustle over to the Rolex 24. Along with a plethora of subject matters for you to address, there are four "Special Edition" Vettes for you to review, although aside from their color, I don't how "special" they really are.
