Is the 2020 Hyundai Veloster N the BETTER buy over a Civic Type R? 

Do what you want to do but I wouldn't replace my lovely RS 3 sedan for a Veloster N. Therefore I'm going to buy this car as a second car. :)

The ones I looked at were only 6k cheaper on the lot. It peaked my interest but still not quite good enough to get me to dump my civic

The Veloster N with performance package msrp its 30k and this is the way to go . The base one its cheap and weak

I was thinking the same thing mate !! I had 3 different Hondas the past 5 years and looking at this video makes me want to try out a Hyundai N veloster !!!!

Type R--golf R--focus Rs--subbi WRX--those are very high 30 to mid 40k cars.They are in Stinger territory.I got an AWD 2020 Stinger GT 3.3 TT for 36k--19k after my trade in.The stinger is a much better car and much much faster then the 4 cylinder--the Golf R is almost as fast--but after the quarter mile the Stinger east the R's lunch.Golf R were 43k and the Civic Type R was 39k--more then a brand new AWD 2020 Stinger--it was a no brainer. Stingers have very good reliablility and a 10 year warranty. The veloster N are high 20s to mid 30s for a special edition track one--which is 5k to 10k less then the other 4 cylinders.I was hesitant about a Stinger but when i drove it got sold.The buttons and interior was on par with my honda crosstour and the car was very fast--and it develops torque low--so you do not need to floor it to get it up to speed like 4 cylinders.AWD makes the car fantastic in all driving situations--including ripping it to a 4.5 seconds 60.

Can you give me an updated opinion on your purchase please? Did you consider or drive anything else like a Civic SI, or the Veloster R Spec, or even a Civic Type R? GTI? anything else? I am trying to decide what I want to buy now. And what kind of mpg do you get when not driving like a hooligan?

@@t.k.morris Even though I had to unexpectedly trade for a Palisade (some priority changes), I still think it was a great car. I had added an AEM Short Ram and H&R Sport Springs and it definitely handled and performed well. I didn't look at the Si or the RSpec since I just wasn't interested in their specs or appearance. I didn't drive or try to work a deal on the Type R since dealers were asking above MSRP at the time. The price difference between the N and Type R at the time was about 12k but I think that gap has closed quite a bit, especially with the 2021 pricing on the N. I would seriously consider the Type R if I was in the market today. The only things I didn't like on the N was the cheap interior (if that really matters much), and the overall rattling of the interior with exhaust on Sport + combined with the sound system. MPG wise, I was lucky to get 28-30 on the highway, City ranged from 20-24. That was with 93 Top Tier. The recommended fuel for the N is at least 91 Top Tier. Overall, great and fun car and the value is outstanding, and the interior has improved for 2021.

How has the reliability been on the engine? How many miles have you put on it and since owning what has been your cost to own the car? Any serious repairs?

@@buzztrucker, I had no engine problems because I kept up with maintenance. Unfortunately, a month ago, my gear shift went out but got it fixed. The week after, my transmission went out. I did have a warranty on both but the adjuster refused to approve it. I have a new vehicle after owning my previous car for 11 years. The person who purchased my Veloster would only have to fix the transmission and he/she has a sweet ride! Approximately 90% of maintenance issues were fixed at the Hyundai dealership. The adjuster should've been fired because he was mean to the mechanics who tried to help me.

The Pirelli tyres are good on hot days, less in moderate temps. The brakes are excellent on my i30 N, even better than the brembo’s on the type R. They keep up much better on a track day than the entry level brembo kits. I remapped my i30N to 310hp and 470 Nm torque. It’s still slower of the line then a CTR (probably due to the longer 1st gear) but on rolling runs in 2nd/3rd gear it leaves a CTR behind with ease and on lap times it’s a lot easier to set consistant laps because it’s so much more forgiving on the limit.

Would you still make the same choice today? I am torn between the SI and a Veloster R Spec or maybe even the Veloster N.... I would appreciate your honest opinion having owned your Veloster for a while now. .... And what do you normally get in mpg if not driving like a hooligan?

Civic si if your trying to stay around the price of the r-spec. I had a 2015 civic si. I test drove the n and the type r.I’m glad I spent the extra money on the type r.

They should bring the Tiburon and Genesis Coupe back with manual transmissions. I hope they don't make the same mistake as Toyota did to the Supra. And sadly the N division is doing that to the Kona N. The upcoming Kona N no manual transmission options.

@Dan P It took me around 45K CAD with all the taxes and delivery fee. Plus I got a lot of freebies like a set of gloss black wheels, winter tires, mud guards, window tints, and floor mats.

My only problem with the Type R is the ridiculous $10,000+ markup. The Type R is a $40,000 car not a $50,000.

@@amordeweso Good to know that it's not everywhere that dealers are crooks. My cousin payed $53,000 for a Type R. And I've heard of many others paying around the same price.

@@fishstickparty I do need AWD for the roads I drive on. I much prefer the handling dynamics of AWD over RWD or FWD and have always picked that option when available.

@@HansDelbruck53 then enjoy your Subarus but I'm not a fan of lethargic steering and understeer. I'm also not willing to pay the Subaru tax particularly with the WRX not even having a high enough ground clearance to be capable.

Yeah I'm a little confused about the amount of attention people waste on talking about how sorry it is. I think the interior looks good and it's all focused right in on the driver. I went to look at the car for the performance and exterior look. I wasn't disappointed at all with the interior considering the price I got for the performance and balance I received. I've put 5k miles on mine to date and I've never been disappointed in the interior, I'm too in love with the driving experience . I also looked at the Mazda 3, which has a More premium interior and similar price, but I wanted to Rip, so I purchased the N.
