We test the brand-new Volkswagen Amarok, which shares its T6.2 platform and V6 diesel engine with the Ford Ranger - but with a number of key changes.
The new Volkswagen Amarok ute will be released in Australia in April 2023 with V6 diesel, turbo petrol and turbo diesel four cylinder engines. Today, we get a first taste of the 2023 Amaork Aventura V6 diesel, with 184kW of power (245 hp). The Amarok will be built only in South Africa and could push $80,000 at the flagship end when it reaches Australia.
Unlike the old Amarok, which was an in house VW product, the new Amarok shares components with the Ford Ranger which has rated highly on Chasing Cars.
In future, VW is very likely to build an EV version of the new Amarok with about 500km range.
The Volkswagen Amarok will compete with the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT-50, Isuzu D-Max and other B-segment utes in Australia.
As always, we don’t accept advertising from car manufacturers, and we’re powered by Budget Direct - so this is an independent, honest review of the Volkswagen Amarok.
