The new and updated 2019 Audi TT RS Roadster comes in with a big price tag, but offers an incredible amount of performance - so, is it worth the money? In my latest road test with Pendle Lease, let's take it out for a drive, go through all of the details, and find out what it's about!
Audi revamped the TT RS both in Coupe and Roadster form with a new look to the front end, a bump to 400hp from the 2.5l turbo 5-cyl engine, and some updated options to enhance the appearance. With a base price of £56,650 in the UK and easily over £60,000 when you fill it with options, it's certainly quite a hefty punch but brings with it some incredible performance, completing the 0-100km/h (62mph) sprint in just 3.9 seconds, and it's only 3.7s for the Coupe.
Following previous videos with Pendle Lease where I have driven the Mini Cooper S JCW, VW Golf R and GTI, Maserati Levante Diesel and VW Touareg; the latest is the Nardo Grey sports car to be put through its paces on a lovely British day. There's a fascination in the UK with cars like this, for good reason when you consider their small size and the narrow roads in the countryside - making that the perfect destination to experience it.
After showing around the exterior and engine bay, it's time to drive the TT RS convertible with both the roof up and down, before wrapping up with a good look through the interior, technology and displays present.

A really good car to have. Just a shame that sales figures determine continuity. An Audi RS3 is way more desirable than this, for more practicality, a bit cheaper and similar performance and that great 5 cylinder sound

The sound from both should be pretty equivalent, especially now with the OPFs fitted. Practicality wise though as you say, most people will choose an RS3 despite the incredible performance of the TT RS

Totally agreed. I wouldn’t consider the ttrs over my rs3 saloon. The stupid thing is the ttrs is a lot more expensive so most people who would buy it wouldn’t bother and get wither an rs3 or Porsche. Silly pricing.

Nice motor, but a 70k price tag is very excessive. I dont like the simplistic interior, if the car was specced with a full secondary console, and all mod cons then I understand. Not worth the cash for me.

Not many other all wheel drive roadsters with 400 bhp, with dual clutch transmission and very high quality interiors available under $150,000. Seems like a good value to me. (and honestly, how many times do you have a passenger who actually interacts with a center screen anyway?)

2018 RS3 and TTRS are worth the Money I personally have a Spec'd out 2018 RS3 and it never disappoints and is a 0-60 3.7 seconds unlike the 2019's with their disappointing slower time and worse sound. I have driven the 2019's and they have packages not available anymore that were available for 2018's. So, if you are interested in a RS3 or TTRS make sure its a 2018 with the RS sports exhaust.

Kaif Din what exactly does this European regulation state? What about super cars with loud crackling exhausts?

Evan Nadeau it’s the wltp regulations which is an increased filter for emissions. The filter muffles the exhaust sound so all cars have become quieter. Will be the same for supercars, they will have to have the filter which will reduce the sound and the crackles. Good comparison is 2016 c63 amg and the 2019 c63 amg, same engine (4.0 biturbo v8) old without filter and new with the filter

Nice review Tim, also very nice little roadster. I love the blue colored metal trim on the sides of the seats and the fact that there is no dual-screen infotainment. Having everything on one screen is just very cool indeed. I think most people will lease a car like this anyway so the price of 70 grand isn't as hard to swallow if you really want the car. I think it has a lot to offer in a small rocket-like package with Audi reliability.

Tim I own an ‘18 TTRS coupe in Nardo and love it! I’ve owned several Porsche Caymans (which I love) but the TTRS offers similar performance with more boot space and daily usability. Love the videos keep them coming.

Man! This car sounds really good. It's rare that you see a 5 cylinder engine and it almost sounds like a V10 in the Audi R8 and it is very unique because it stands out in it's own way. I also love the color of this car. The color really fits this car perfectly and I love it.

I bought a 2013 Audi TT Roadster, best car i’ve ever had, sounds great, drives well, so much fun in the summer, in the 12 yezrs i’ve had it, only had to change the battery once, and had to repair something in the cooling system but otherwise it’s been super mechanically, a good solid car.

We have a 2015 mk3 roadster with pretty much all the options ticked as it was a demo car and one owner before us. It's a great fun car. We have the standard tt quattro and you can go fast enough, quickly and the roof down makes it great.

I was gonna get that exact one. But Audi decided not to send the convertible to USA. So, traded in my base TT convertable which I really liked for a cpo, preowned 911 991.2 C2S convertable. Thank you Audi :)

@@MegaHarryballzonya that was a few years ago, I think I heard that audi may or has even stop making the TT. I would talk to a dealer or call Audi USA, or try to purchase one from Europe and have it shipped to usa. Probably possible but would be a big hassel. All TT's very rare. I've only seen like 3 since I sold mine. It was redesign in 2016. Look at the porsche boxsters , better car. Us military bases in Europe have car sales on base and lots of guys buy cars from them in Europe and then get them shipped to usa when the return to the states, if you can call one of those military base sales offices in Europe they might know how to get you one and get it shipped back. That's worth a try and might work, good luck ! Let me know of you go that route and pull it off. ... .

I have a 2018 TTRS stage 3 with a full carbon body kit new suspension and transmission, wing, new facelift bumper, rolling cage. It has 660 HP, 2 sets of wheels. I have a hurucan performante and this car is faster in a straight line. It’s the best tuning car

Not a fan of the looks on this car or the natural tendency for understeer. However, the 5 cylinder sounds great! I do like the first Gen TT though and think one day they might be collectible in quattro form with a manual transmission!

In Spain this model starts at 87900 euros... For this price i would buy a Porsche 718 boxster S (350hp, starts at 81000)...

The base RS roadster is over 11k cheaper than the model you tested which looks like the Sports Edition and the base version has all the equipment anybody needs and rides well on the standard 19 inch wheels. Pointless comparisons with the Golf R and RS3. Its a convertible not a hot hatch or a saloon! I picked up my 20 plate RS for 45k with only 300 on the clock. So practically a new car. Well chuffed.Best looking Roadster you can buy - in my opinion.

It's a shame it lost a bit of its power and sound since the facelift, but still the best engine and laser sharp steering that takes no effort to go fast. It's just a nearly perfect sportscar.. A little more expensive than its competitors but I'd still take it above all of them

That filter ruined it. So much of the personality of that car is in the sound of that 5 cylinder, almost like having a baby v10 in the car because of the firing order. It just feels sterile now.

Will car brands be able to figure out how to get sound through the new emission filters? I get it needs to be there for CO2 regulations and such, but it must be possible to get louder exhausts and more crackles though, right? Or will we from now on have to give every new sports car a custom exhaust?

The filter is also meant to lessen the sound of the car and new laws are on the way which will make after market exhausts have to meet same noise restrictions as OME :-(

The face lifted is actually slower than previous model as well. If you put them side by side on a track, you won’t see much difference until you hit 60 then the pre face lift has legs to start pulling away. Very sad.

You can buy sport edition coupe for 50500 brand new in many UK Audi dealers. Not many about - but not as expensive as list. Audi need to sell pre Reg cars ASAP.

Looking from your point yeah it was always the same. Boring always, but to me there was an era it was great but maybe it is me causs in Brazil car import was very controlled and there was no Audis. When import became allowed in the 90's Senna became their first and only distributor, and of course it boomed.
