I’m not trying to hate, promise. But dude did you ever get past 4K? Sure the car doesn’t have too much power but you might have touched 1/2 the hp. I’ve never seen someone “short shift” an auto before. Maybe just leave it in sport and let the a10 do its thing?
I own a ZL1 1LE 6 speed manual. I would kindly disagree with you on the "unusable" first gear. It does take a little understanding of the car to properly use a manual transmission. I have absolutely no issues using a manual and now with the added mods on the car, it pushes 730 rwhp with 750 lb torque. If the tires are cold it doesnt matter what transmission you are on, it will fish tail. If the tires are nice and hot, it will stick easily without any issues, again, regardless of the transmission.
Have a 1SS A10. This guy is nuts. It’s a complete rocket. 3.9 0-60 and 12s@118mph 1/4mi is no joke. Paid $35k for it brand new. A ZL1 does a 3.6 and cost another $25-30k. The SS is a beast and a steal.
I’m a huge fan of the ZL1 though I can’t imagine saying the SS isn’t enough power. Another point in the SS’s favor not addressed well is balance. SS 1LE has a much better weight distribution, while the zl1 1LE does a great job of driving like a car that doesn’t have that much weight on the nose it is noticeable. Thank you for the video, nice to hear from an owner.
stop manually shifting gears. put car in sport mode it will shift much better than you. upshift and downshift. you keep saying not too much power because your shifting way to early . I own a Zl1 and your killing me watching you destroy the auto with the paddle shifters. The car shifts way better on its own.
@@coreytrevor3356 throw in some headers, tires, and race octane and you can put busses on a zl1, but if you want a track beast then the zl1 1le is your best bet.
Not too much power? Any chance that you've simply just become accustomed to having such power that the SS just seems underwhelming to you? Interesting points about the climate and the supercharger vs naturally aspirated.
It's been my experience that the people saying the ZL1 has too much power are the ones that can't afford one. I'm sure if the ZL1 was within their budget, they would say that the ZL1 has the perfect amount of power.
I really wanted a 6spd but that auto shifts real quick. I'll probably track it once in a while but it'll be mostly a daily street beast. Automatics seems better for a daily a 1LE.
8:00 Wrong! Mine is a manual SS and no you do NOT get traction all the time, unless you keep traction control on all the time, but who drives with TC on when its more fun off. Its so easy to break the tires hitting 2nd and 3rd gear.
I got a blacked out 2019 2ss 10 speed auto 🔥 coming from a 5 speed 2006 srt8 procharged 300C making 550 WHP. I’m boutta race them & post a video on my channel within a few days
I'm considering picking up a SS 1LE for around $35k and adding a supercharger and a ZL1 or ZL1 1LE style front bumper. Thoughts? I want handling and power. Don't we all? 😁
You can do this, the thing with the ZL1 1LE is the daily ride… it sux. Doesn’t have the same mag suspension like the SS 1LE and ZL1. I’d love a ZL1…. Just can’t afford it haha I tried twice and gave up I’m happy in my 2SS 1LE though
i swear with the 1LE it comes with the black hood, the carbon fiber hood insert, and the spoiler. i beleive the regular ZL1 doesn’t come with those things either, along with the splitter and fins
I think when people say it has "too much power", they mean you really can't utilize all that power on a launch compared to the SS. 0-60 is like 4.0s vs 3.5s for the two models. You would think there would be a bigger difference considering the ZL1 has almost 50% more power. You will never get to use anywhere near max power on the ZL1 on public roads. The SS with a manual has more bang for the buck smiles and you can use more of its power on public roads. Now if you want a serious track weapon, get the ZL1-1LE.
Stay in the pedal. If the tires are cold or you get uneven surfaces either an SS or a Z will slide. By saying you will always grip is not doing the car community any favors where you never got past 5000 rpms in any gear in this video. I own an 18 2SS 1LE. And I've driven the Z . At 8-10 10ths effort these cars will bite you on any compromised surface at WOT.
My 2020 2SS 1LE has 285 front and 305 rear. I personally would take the $12k price difference from the ZL1, save on insurance and do my own modifications, The ZL1 makes around 540 whp stock and i'm sure I can make that for around $5k. Just my opinion but I prefer the SS 1LE front bumper style over the ZL1.
I agree with this guy. Love my 19 1SS 1LE. A H/C/I/bolton/tune SS will yank a stock ZL1 especially if running flex fuel. Hell even a full bolton/tune SS could easily give a stock ZL1 a very hard time. Maybe if GM didn't half-step on the LT4 back when they introduced it in 2014 I would have more love for the ZL1 but as it is it's behind LS9, (yes I said that) Trinity, Predator, and the 6.2L Hellfat engines. To be competitive with them (unless they're stock) a LT4 requires a blower swap because back in 2014 GM didn't know how to build a cowl hood for a Corvette. Luckily buy the time they introduced the ZR1 they had figured it out. If 760 and 800 HP isn't too much for Challengers and Mustangs who at best are built on good chassis (and call either "good" is a stretch as they are both very budgeted platforms. BTW the Challenger platform in mediocre at best) the 650 HP is not too much for a Camaro build on an Alpha platform.
I 100% agree with you Danny. I have a 2020 SS and love it. Getting ready to go LT2 intake, headers, E85 and tune. Already have CAI. I'm sure I will cause issues for and ZL1. Later in the year Cam and port heads.
Camaro all the way>> I own a 2014 and yes it’s a 3.6L. But still breaking necks with the mods I have and still adding more power. But I will in the future own a ZL1 1LE.
This! In the age of 4banger turbos, v6 twin turbos and super chargers… Hopping into a N/A and feeling the natural brute force taking her to redline and letting her gurgle and pop from 1st to 2nd gear ahhhhhhhhhh always puts a smile on my face!
I have owned a 2SS auto for 5 years-75000 miles-not enough power-well Normal Aspirated with instant response and getting wind it out-how and when 0-60 in 3.8 is not enough--guess all you are only considering torques 3500 or less--no fun in that-
I HATE the new ad setup for RU-vid, where you HAVE to watch 4 ads and can't skip them. Terrible idea and shows that RU-vid prefers ad makers OVER viewers!
Lol yeah doesn’t look fast on paper being 0-60 in 3.5 vs 4 but feeling it is completely mind boggling. My first time pulling in a ZL1 I almost shit myself it hits you hard right when you past 4K. When you pull in a SS it’s just broad gradual pull to redline. ZL1 wants you to just throw the hammer down after 4K rpm all you say is ohhh shit haha
The look on your face when you floored it says it is too much power. Also, you're driving it on a dry road. If it was wet, you most likely would have lost it. Stop barking and admit it. 650 HP is a lot for the average driver.
befor watching it ... get a manual than yes. i am not the typical manual guy but i think the car needs it to feel conected and have way ore fun on backroads and the track.
just a tip for something you braught up: if you drive a 600hp plus car with a manual put the traction off and cant grip you are engaging the clutch wrong and/or give to much gas. just learn how to really feel the clutch engage. its not that hard to get a good manual launch from a zl1. and i dont know how it is in the US but in germany you learn how to drive a manual and to get a drivers license you learn like over half a year with an instructor. maybe thats why i dont undertand your point of controlling a manual zl1 without getting distracted. that is normaly a thing beginner drivers suffer here. after some time it is just muscle memory you dont think about it really. other than that a pretty cool video its a sub from me
@@marcojordan1368 I've modded her a little so far. Added another lower splitter and side skirts. Windows are 15 % tinted. I'm going to start my own channel too lol. Wish me luck.
