Is the electricians JIB Gold Card Worthless?

I’m a Gold Card electrician Site Technician for the last 25 years in the job for 42 years end of 14th edition ✅ 15th edition ✅16th edition ✅17th edition ✅18th edition ✅ + Inspection and test Plus I have autocad 2D & 3D qualifications Just re applied for my ECS today because my card had lapsed Easy test so carry in guys keep doing it! Done me no harm Worked on alsorts domestic / commercial/ industrial Have been an ECA / NICEIC approved contractor Worked for myself now for 21 years Good video young man 😊😊 Atb Phil Green

Good video mate, as I'm a commercial/industrial spark in Scotland the gold card is usually the first thing that's asked for to prove that you are a spark and are upto date with the latest wiring regs. Before I had it, it caused me problems not having it as they wanted proof that I had sat an apprenticeship, its something I've always been proud to achieve. To me it does prove you have a certain degree of competentence to carry out electrical work as per the achievements youve required which will also be on the back,but everyone has different standards so it doesn't mean your better than someone who doesn't have it, its also alot easier to carry round a gold card than your apprenticeship certificate and modules you've sat. As I work on the network I have to go through all sorts of different courses to gain authorisations which allow me to do certain work on the network,e.g pull fuses, work live e.t.c these are on a certificate and deem you competent to do the work.

Best ticket you can get. They are much sort after (Nestles are in need of foreign workers). A ticket not to do the work properly and in accordance with The Regulations.

For me. As a time served general builder who has no formal qualifications. I am working towards the gold card as something I can fall back on. Foing level 3 and inspection n testing currently

I am proud of my gold card as it was a lot of work and sleepless night to get there.Also big respect to the tutors, people from AM2 2391,2 etc.

Most people who say it isn’t worth anything do not have one or can’t get one because they don’t have an NVQ level 3 award, which they also diss .

Interesting video. One could comprehensively argue that the card will satisfy a degree of safety understanding by the card holder. For this reason I think that the card is a practical feature of a skilled trade. However, I don't think Workers are being supported fully by the J.I.B as we work . Many firms exist with no affiliation to the J.I.B . How many firms will not pay for Your break or Overtime! When You look for the job a firm want You to have a J.I.B card. So can the J.I.B please support its members and ensure that the firms pay us and respect overtime rates, breaks and holidays? Am I dreaming?

Fabulous video The fact is that the JIB is nothing more than a trade union there roll is to try and sort out any dispute you may have with an employer such as holiday entitlement insuring suetible salarys and safe working environment, But more often than not they do nothing to help you, this comes from my late brother who was jib regesterd for over therty years only because his employer (London Transport) insist on it. When I was going to toin the JIB my brother told me not to wast my time and money. Still good for you if you think its worth it. And I am not saying electritions shouldn't join the JIB or niceic or any other organisation Just remember that it is NOT a legal requirement. Great video though mate

Proud of mine, 25 years in commercial and light industrial, respect to all good domestic spark's, I've tried it not for me.

Most big construction sites required the gold card, u can walk in a job paying £200 a day £1000 a week, and after experience u can earn more.

Great video Mark, I did my apprenticeship 15 years ago through JTL and was awarded a gold card in 2009 after doing the old style AM2 which wasnt easy. After the card expired in 2014 I never bothered renewing as didnt feel the need. Recently after watching and listening to some RU-vid content and podcasts such as EGTE I realised its held in higher esteem than I thought, so I renewed it, not that I need it for work, but just for my own satisfaction.

Gold card is my goal, I’m currently on my first year of my electrical apprenticeship and is going well. Already have my level 2 and 3 diplomas, was wondering what do I get after completing my apprenticeship?

Does Gold Card being recognized worldwide? Example USA?

good vid , 1 question - i qualified via jib apprentaship in 95 236 part 1-2 am2 , i dropped out of the game , 2023 recently i wanted to get back into the electrician game , i opened a ecs account and put my national insurance number in to the ecs site and they confirmed i was eligible for a gold card !! which i got , problem is i dont have any experience in the modern game and dont want to chance it , so i asked a few sparky people if i could go on site as an improver to slowly get back in the game, i was told that esc will strip me of the gold card if i do that , do you have a any info on this situation ?

It isn't worthless I aspired to get a gold card when I first started and it does open a lot of doors, it is rather old hat but in the commercial scene it's invaluable. That said it is quite possible to go without and surpass the benefits of it which is why I ended up not getting it I just kept taking more and more qualifications and in the end didn't need it but maybe one day I'll get it.

I'm a bit late to the trade after having kids decided I needed a career change and recently finished my level 2&3 c&g by doing college in the eve I hope to work toward a gold card just need to start getting myself outvthere and gaining some experience. Can I ask would you recommend site work or jumping on with a small gang that mainly do domestics?
