@JoeJoe-lq6bd
@JoeJoe-lq6bd Месяц назад
Yeah, I share both of those sentiments. I think they saw the shiny, new streaming business and never thought about how that could be profitable for big-budget, or even mid-budget, films. They made the gap between theatrical release and streaming release way too short. Additionally, the average theater experience is nothing special for the price. I'll pay those high prices but make it something more enjoyable than me sitting in my home. Original films really are a hard sell to people now. Unless there's huge marketing hype, I can't even get friends to see something that isn't attached to a known property. I think that's also largely because people have been conditioned to that being what film is, a continuing series of stories about a known set of characters. Studios were able to get away with that business model when most of the blockbuster IP films were opening huge. Even a lot of critics were oblivious to the fact that it was a boom-and-bust business model that wouldn't sustain the industry long-term. And so, here we are.

The one thing that people seem afraid to mention is this…people are just not as interested in specifically just Movies anymore as a form of entertainment. We have TV Shows & Video Games now competing and arguably more popular as a whole and matching them for quality, and with the amount of them in a marketplace flooded with content, for a movie to truly hit and force people to go out and see it then it has to either be truly outstanding or be tied to a famous IP, or be a popular family movie that can bring in all demographics. The movie business is not as special as it once was.

agreed, as a teenager in the 90s and then a young adult in the 2000s, going to the movies on a weekend was a popular pastime for those agred 15-25. These days, this same age bracket are more likely to be playing the latest videogame or checking out new tic-tok vidoes (unless it is an even movie like Dune or Mario). Given the cost of living has also rose astronomically since then, I dont blame young people for not going to the theatre as much either.

An interesting thing I heard in the theater for TPM was how every time Padme changed outfits it got a reaction. There was a group of little girls in front of me that kept saying "pretty" & "I love that dress". Some women about my age mentioned how they forgot how many dresses Padme had. This got me thinking about how as a kid I wanted, like, all of Padme's outfits. Maybe if Lucas Film wants girls to like Star Wars they should take some fashion advice from the prequels. I’ve seen The Fall Guy twice now once in Imax and once in 4DX and had a blast with it. I also remembered the 80’s TV show (been having the theme song stuck in my head) and the original Metalstorm that they’re spoofing in the movie as well as Miami Vice (which had a reboot too that Michael Mann directed as well). But I also saw with younger people who didn’t know any of those things so it didn’t matter if it was a remake because it was new to them. The tastes of movie goers has changed so much and segmented that it’s impossible to predict what will be a hit. Also spectacular stunts which used to wow audiences before don’t seem to impress people much anymore because of the frequent use of digital stunt doubles. No one can hardly tell the difference now which may put stunt artists out of work sadly just as they are fighting to be recognized at the Academy Awards.

I have just watched The Fall Guy and it was so much fun. Sure, it’s not groundbreaking outside of stuntmanship (that insane world record!!), but it doesn’t need to be. The action is great, the cast is a extremely charismatic and the script is good enough to fill in the blanks. A solid summer blockbuster. It had the most important thing: great energy. Everyone seemed to really want to be there and it just felt fun. I hope it will have some legs as word of mouth works its magic!

Let's just accept the fact that theatrical releases are a sunset industry. It's just like the music industry about two decades ago. We will never go back to the heyday of blockbuster earnings. This is an inevitable fact. The younger generation aren't interested in cinema releases, especially with the price of watching a movie in theaters, when they can just wait to watch it online, or play video games.

Once music became easily and commercially first downloadable and then streamable, I drastically cut down how many full albums I bought in CD/LP/Cassette form. I didn't have to gamble $14.98 to get two songs I liked and hope there were four or five others I would enjoy.

Just out of curiosity, is the $20-25 a month for the unlimited services places like Regal and AMC offer still too much? I'm genuinely curious and not trying to judge. I go to movies all the time because of it; it's actually way cheaper than most activities since they cover the cost of the tickets. So the argument of "movies are too expensive" seems odd to me, but I go to *a lot* of movies so I understand that I might be biased and others might not see as much value in it if they really don't care all that much about movies. I am also one singular human being without kids, so there's also that.
@kaokue

@@32fps Yeah, I didn’t want to mention it, but I do have kids. Lol. So, I have less time than I did before and when I do have time, we’re watching Kung Fu Panda 4 in the theaters. Lol. @brandononbrand
@brandononbrand Месяц назад
@@32fpsyeah, with AMC A-list, you get up to 12 movies a month for the price of 1 or 2 tickets… service fees are waived, and you get reward points… (technically, it’s 3 movies a week, and the app can be buggy about it… the limitations tell me that A-list may not be a money maker for AMC… so frustrating because some weeks there might be 4 I want to see, but then nothing the next, lol) AMC doesn’t seem to promote A-list much, and you can’t get it for children as far as I know… so a parent is still paying big bucks, even if they have A-list… And maybe not enough movies are appealing to people to make $25 a month worth it, so A-list would effectively be like a gym membership for many… And AMC doesn’t let you pause without penalty… I think if you pause, you can’t resume for 6 months. Anyway, also curious why others don’t sign up for the theaters’ subscriptions.

While i love the cast, here are a few reasons I didn’t go see it: 1. It's advertised like a Red Notice. I was very underwhelmed with the first trailer that i saw, god knows how long ago. 2. It doesn’t appear to be anything like the TV show(which was probably bad, but i have fond memories of it. I haven't seen it since i was 9) 3. It's advertised like a rom com 4. I only recently found out it was directed by a stunt man and has almost all practical effects. 5. I live in the northern midwest and it was nice out this weekend. I have no interest sitting in a theater when i can be outside instead. 6. There are so many trailers for movies so far in the future, they are just noise at this point. I honestly did not know it came out this weekend. 7. While i like the cast and will check this out on streaming, they way it has been marketed, I'm not paying theater prices for it.

I think the fall guy box office is sadly a reflection of the current state of movie-going. the average audiance is no longer turning up to the the theatre in the same numbers they used to, to see an orginial IP (even though Fall guy is based on a tv show,, not many people remember this). The reality is with streaming and inflation of food, gas etc, more of the audiance are likely to avoid going to the theatre unless it is an event movie like Dune or Barbe, or a big franchise like Godzilla, etc. They will just wait for streaming. Fall Guy's best hope are it has good legs like Anything but you, Migration etc.

Yup thats right but there is a solution. First hire not popular actors but talented .because we all know there talent fee is so expensive. 2nd finish the script before start shooting. 3rd stop too many shooting. And last do more an original but mainstream’s movies. Because we all know indie film doesn’t earn that money.

I also think sometimes when the weather is good people are less inclined to see movies during the day. Now people may go out more and sometimes bad weather can impact moviegoing but my point is weather makes a difference and at least in the Midwest when it’s nice out people want to be outside

Especially when there was severe weather over most of the country and you have life events like graduations, proms, communions.

For an original action comedy made to shine a light on an underappreciated profession in the film industry making close to 30 million, I wouldn't say it "fell flat." Not every hit has to make superhero money. The original Avatar made $77 million.
