I feel the fact that the tyranids have been seen entering the galaxy from different directions makes it highly unlikely that they are running from something else. has it actually been confirmed in the law that there is a larger fleet though? From a story perspective I understand suggestion and rumor to add fear and dread into the story.. but has it actually been confirmed to be true??Like what the heck would they be waiting on if the Nids we’ve seen so far are just a scouting party? If they’re just scouts who’s job it is to see if the galaxy is occupied/how fortified it is, wouldn’t you think the main force would come in and clean house by now if They obviously have enough info after so many battles with the entire galaxy

I forget where but I actually heard that the Nids completely get screwed over if they attack a world with more than one faction active on it, especially if they start alternating their attack patterns, the Nids will adapt X amount to one faction's tactics only to get smacked sideways by the turnover. I'm pretty sure this is actually how Armageddon is able to fight the Nids, because the Orks and humans are able to form momentary truces for the purpose of exploiting this to clear the field of any interlopers in their own fighting. Which, yeah let's talk about the fact that you can actually form truces with the Orks if you just show them a bigger enemy that the both of you can fight together, the only thing Orks love more than fighting the humies is hitching a ride with the humies to fight some huge ass nid fleet

I like to imagine that the "main" hive fleet could crush the entire galaxy regardless of the level of resistance from the Necron or otherwise... BUT, with the information it receives from its scouting arms about how HEAVY METAL this particular galaxy is, they run some numbers and simply decide its not worth the losses they'd take. @justinkase4764 2 года назад
Percentages mater. If your left with .0001% of the fantasy setting population intact you probably have a world of skaven going to go extinct in 3-5 generations. The total population of just perpetuals could leave the setting with 100s of people left fighting the nids till the old ones come back and speak the universe into existence before they nope out to run from some "bigger threat"
@patrickbo2045
@patrickbo2045 Год назад
Wasn't the end times ruined by ten billion rats eating everything? I mean, the thing is, in 40k stuff like that is less likely to happen because everything is so stupidly overpowered, it cancels each other out. Like, a huge swarm of nids trying to eat everything? Don't you worry, there is at least three factions that hard counter them. Orks get stronger the more they fight, Necrons have uber imba technology, chaos isn't edible, Tau won't melee and counters them by design, you get the gist of it.
@drarsen33
@drarsen33 Год назад
That is one of things about the Tau. Tau empire with its all allied races and expansion spheres is around 100 planets strong. When what ever came from Ghoul Stars attacked Imperium lost 1000 worlds before being able to stop what ever it was. Imperium has approximately around 1 million planets. Loss of 10 planets for Imperium is hardly noticeable.

I've always seen the strenght of the Imperium in that way: the Age of Strife was probably worst that the current situation overall, so I think that a recovery is possible. How? Humanity always performed very well in a particular situation: 1- with an unified and centralized command 2- with an ideology driving it 3- military speaking, what humanity needs is an unified elite force that spearheads conquest and that wins every single battle; that force are the space marines Legions. While the chapters imo have been great in holding the line and preventing another major civil war, the legions are needed for the offensive in a crusade-like fashion attack that takes out enemies of humanity one by one. A force of a million space marines non-scattered but united could take out one by one every other faction in the current situation, while the Imperial Guard holds the line and keeps the Imperium alive. Of course this would require the return of the loyalist primarchs: just look what Guilliman managed to do alone. The Great Crusade, the Damocles Crusade, the Macharian Crusade, the Indomitus Crusade... just look what could be done in the right context and situation.

Grim dark loses its edge if there isn't hope. After all, if there is no silver lining and no chance at victory, grim dark loses its punch! In these settings, we need to see larger than life heroes triumph over impossible odds...only to see that hero fall in the hardest way. This of course opens the door for new heroes to rise to the challenge and thus the cycle repeats. No matter if things are grim dark or sunshine rainbows...too much of either one makes for a stale and boring setting.

Some of us though do like an ending. Actually if the setting did end, I would like to see it end just like how Mass Effect ends if you have low War Assets. The shattered fleets and fallen armies of every faction strewn across the galaxy. The Imperium lies in ruins, from the farthest colony to Holy Terra itself. The Eldar Craftworlds now lie broken, floating in the void. The Tau Septs are in a similar look to the Imperium. Commoragh is even more chaotic than it ever was in history. Necron Tomb worlds are empty save for maybe a few remaining. Chaos is all but defeated, with barely enough sentient life to give it strength. The great Tyranid Hive Mind is now nothing more than a shadow. The Emperor is probably dead or tired of everything and just lives the rest of his life somewhere. All the heroes of every faction dead. The Chaos Gods destroyed. The remaining survivors of every race trying rebuild the worlds they are on. Victory was gained by the denizens of the Milky Way galaxy but at the of cost everything

And the Necrons are equivalent to or above that, sometimes well above.(since how the Eldar survived the War in Heaven varies from edition to edition). The Tyranids are big spooky bugs that do big spooky bug things. They don't have anything to counter even one Necron remembering where they put the ultratech. Boiyo I'd be careful calling Tyranid adaptation "slow", or "lacking in tactical ability. The Tyranids have always been used as the plot device faction, meaning they are always as easy to destroy as the main feature of the lore needs them to be to shine. There are numerous cases of Tyranids out smarting their enemies and eating them, like the Nephelim king who killed a knight by exploiting their nobility. GW always Nerfs or Buffs them according to their whims, so it is hard to use a hand full of novels that say one thing or the other with Tyranids. Mostly because not even GW knows how strong they want the Tyranids to end up at the final confrontation (Wich may never come).

Depends what you mean by ''doomed'', if you mean ''is the imperium eventually going to collapse if WH40K ever ends?'' Yes, total success of the Emperors vision for humanity is both impossible and a slam dunk victory would be disappointing even to Imperium fans. It'd go against the entire theme. If by ''doomed'' you mean, will chaos and/or the tyranids cause the extinction of all sentient life in the galaxy? No that would be an equally bad ending that no wants to write or read. What I would imagine would happen if GW ever runs out of money and has to write an ending is the Eldar sacrifice themselves to destroy Slaanesh, atoning for their sin of creating it, the Tyranids are revealed to the creations of the exiled old ones and therefore the necrons fault for existing, the necrons go extinct destroying the Tyranids, atoning for their sin of waging The War In Heaven. Humanity is then free to throw everything they have at chaos, destroying both factions and atoning for OUR sin of hubris in trying to conquer the galaxy and defeat nature itself at once. The (reformed) T'au then inherit the ashes of the Galaxy, having been passed the torch by every species that came before them and ensuring the cycle of death and rebirth ends with them. I think that would be the most dramatic, thematically appropriate and satisfying ending, far more so than just 'humanity epic winz' or 'everyone dies the end'.

Imperium winning would honestly be kind of retarded, but they're "our guys" so making them lose would be as disappointing as WHF End Times. They should just not end the story at all because when GW alters major plot points it usually ends up in a train wreck. For instance the way GW has been writing Space Dad recently making all his "mistakes" planned because ayylmao foresight is already awful and it makes the Imperium story less compelling than him failing due to the limitations of his own humanity, like how he was written in the past.

Dude you have my sympathies, the Australian government lost its freaking mind. The most ridiculous thing is I can think of a few places more sunny than Australia, it is literally a massive health problem it's so sunny, and sunlight is literally the best way to kill and prevent covid. I mean most governments went authoritarian but holy crap did Australia go hard.

So in probably about 20 Millenia, Necrons The Imperium of Man, Tau and Eldar will probably be part of either an Anti-Tyrranid Alliance and Orc Pest Control Force?

Majorkill, I really want to start doing some WH40K fan fiction but I'm not sure what area of the lore I'd like to dive into. I'd love it if you could do something like a top 5 or top 10 sections of lore that need fleshing out. Some ideas I've seen that are really tempting are the early lore of the Big E, the story of the 2 missing Primarchs, or maybe some of the early Tyranid encounters...

Some starting points from both 30k and 40k that could be of interest (as a fellow fanfiction writer- hence my name). 30k- The murder of Jerulas Station (a renegade forge world that got obliterated- almost certainly by Necrons). The fate of the Disciples of the Flames (a unit of the Salamanders) and their loyalist Iron Warriors allies of the 114th Grand Battalion. Reznor- A world surrounded by at least hundreds of broken warships that fought in the HH(but no clue to who they were). The fate of Loyalist elements of Traitor Legions (see Disciples of the Flames above for an example). Nightfall- Flagship of the Night Lords- Partook in the Battle for Terra, but unknown what happened to it by 40k. 40k: Abyssal Crusade- Fate of two chapters (Blades Eternal and Fists of Olchis) unclear. Space Hulks- Any and every Space Hulk is different, and represent an endeavour worth exploring. Many chapters have… unclear origins (Minotaurs, Blood Ravens to name a few). The early career of Eisenhorn isn’t particularly well explored (about 18 years worth from 222. M41 to 240. M41). The return of the Speranza (Ark Mechanicus) to Imperial Space and what happens after.

I think that the story of tau and humans working together to beat the nids is actually pretty dumb. Like yeah they couldn’t adapt to both weapons, but people always forget that the tyranids have absolutely amazing tactical choices and overwhelming power. Seriously in the codex for nids the swarmlord is described as a being that has the intellect of the greatest commanders with thousands of lifetimes of experience that have given it experience in all things. Not to mention that nomatter how good your guns are, numbers of the tyranids will eventually break through it

I mean to be fair the Swarmlord is basically a joke at this point with it getting jobbed regularly. The thing has been worfed into oblivion, a fate the Avatar of Khaine barely avoided itself.
