I have the Hero 7 Black and what I'm learning over the years of limited use in also non-extreme sport applications - is that the new WDR and exposure algorithms compared with older Heros (I owned a 3 like you did before too), is that it tends to over-expose the image, so I'm frequently shooting in -1 to -1.5 EVs to get a cleaner shot. Especially if dealing with in-car shots where being able to see the content outside of the car (sky/road) is critical. So far your BTS foot age has been good with the Hero 9 and I've seen some other content creators really push the gopro video to heights I didn't think were possible, but they're true pros in the post-processing realm.

I'm also underexposing by about 1.5 EV, as the skies are less blown out in this setting, but I generally would have to reduce the shadows a bit as they tend to be quite noisy in all but the most bathed light situations. It looks much better in cloudy days than full day sun on most angles. I have yet to push the files in post, I would imagine it also requires shooting in very ideal lighting conditions. As a lazy point and shoot camera though for most of us, I think the footage is still a bit scrappy. You definitely have to think and work hard for better shots with it.

@@eastonchang completely agree with you on all the points. I notice the noise to be crazy if you just use gopro’s own editor and click the auto edit button. Anyways, if the content and story is good, I personally can forgive some crunchy video - as painful as that is to the creator.

@@nodrogkam Yep, for behind the scenes vlogging. I don't mind if the video is a bit crunchy. It's only for the purpose of showing the day. It just has to be quick, light and easy to use because I am usually running and gunning and focusing entirely on the main project. So I can just hand the GoPro to my assistant (who usually isn't experienced with cameras) to just point and shoot and get usable footage out of it.

Great video mate. I shoot on the Osmo Action which I love. Would be interesting to compare the two. I’ve subbed to. Great job.

This is incredibly relevant. I'm just started using a 3+ and it's abysmal.
